Cons: In this luxury and nice hotel our shower had too low water pressure. All the rest was perfect.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding hotel. We booked an upgraded room with a view of the bay and town - it was absolutely worth it. The staff were outstanding and the restaurant was excellent. The location was great - it was good being a short walk from the city and the noise. The Scorrybreach Trail around the hotel was a beautiful walk - not to be missed. Would stay here again - no hesitations!
Cons: No dislikes!

Pros: This is the best hotel on island Skye. Will definitely stay here again. The architecture and accommodation are very cozy and also very unic. It’s some kind of meditation and relaxation to seat near fireplace or in front of big window in the evening. Great view

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location, easy to get around the island. Great restaurant, bar and breakfast. The rooms were quiet and had a lovely balcony to watch the sunset over the loch. John at the front desk was so incredibly helpful and genuinely interested in our day our plans and making sure we had a great experience. Love the decor in this hotel. Somehow they made all sort of patterns, wallpaper and furniture work and it is really really lovely.
Cons: We booked the hotel as it had a spa. The spa was under renovation and not open while we were at the hotel. I feel the hotel rooms should have been discounted on account of this. There was dust in the bathroom vent in the ceiling (a lot of it). It is a pet peeve of mine. I think these should always be clean.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved this hotel. It was recommended by our guide and it was perfect. Lovely setting, great food for dinner and breakfast. Views are lovely ...we would do it all again!
Cons: Nothing -
7,5 Good
Pros: Pleasant checkin. Being upgraded to a room with Loch view
Cons: Morning reception staff could have been friendlier.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff and level of service was fantastic. The quality and perfectionism while the bar tender made an Irish coffee was a joy to watch. The breakfast was delicious, and the poached eggs were done to perfection. Really clean rooms, great en-suite bathroom. And the hotel in an amazing setting...
6,3 Good
Pros: The property was nice,a bit far from Portree, but I got a room outside the main building. Breakfast good and the dinner was very good too...
Cons: The room I booked was a garden view and What I got was a room from a wooden pre fabricated in the garden. I didn’t understand this and it was an expensive hotel!! I think they have to be more specifique on their web page.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It is a wonderful property set in lovely grounds with stunning views. The staff were helpful ,friendly and professional. It is a little bit more expensive but worth every cent
Cons: Absolutely nothing
4,3 Okay
Pros: We had a big room with a nice view. They also made a very good soy milk cappuccino or flat white.
Cons: The hotel is very dated. Our room was not clean, the bathroom was huge but the shower was still somehow tiny. The internet was not working in our room at all ... I guess they need to install a signal repeater or something to get better internet throughout the hotel. They only give one coffee per person in the espresso machine (the other one is decaf). When we arrived we were quite tired and hungry and all they could offer my wife (vegan) for lunch was green salad and tomatoes. You sort of expect all of these issues in your average four star hotel but this one charges 400 EUR per night. It's ridiculous how much they charge and how little you get for it. We should have stayed at a B&B.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located on a beautiful, quiet seaside spot where the sunsets are fantastic and it's soothing to watch the ocean and the tides. Food in the restaurant was excellent, especially the grilled seabass!
Cons: Nothing
6,5 Good

Cons: We were disappointed with the standard of the dinner although the breakfasts were great.
5,7 Okay
Pros: the countryside and nice view from my room.the staff was very helpful and very very polite.
Cons: I was not really impressed with the food. The portion was very small and for the price I was charged I think around £17 I felt a bit ripped off.I have been cooking in restaurants for over 10 year and I know people don`t mind to pay as long the food is good and the portions are reasonable.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: We LOVED the Highlands Soap Company products at the sink and in the shower - one of our favorite features at your beautiful hotel.
6,8 Good
Pros: This was the final nights stay on our trip around Scotland. We stayed in the best room, which was over priced but clean, comfortable and had a lovely bathroom. The hotel bar, reception and general areas were all well kept and clean.Staff were helpful and pleasant. It was a 5 minute walk into Portree, downhill. If money isn't an issue, I would recommend this hotel.
Cons: The restaurant was closed ,but staff recommended a lovely restaurant in town, (part of the same group of hotels) Expensive but would stay again.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is in a great location just a short walk into Portree village where the local restaurants we eat at were all excellent. Hotel is spotlessly clean and the interior has been tastefully designed. Rooms were comfortable with facilities one would expect. Nice bar with garden views over Portree bay and excellent choice at breakfast
Cons: Only minor grumble was the lack of parking provision. The hotel is currently undergoing an extensive building programme. The builders on site themselves were not an issue other than the fact that there skips building materials and vehicles occupied a large proportion of the parking facility resulting in us having to park on the road.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The associated restaurant was excellent. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Cons: The shower was a little cool.

Cons: Stairs!
2,5 Mediocre
Cons: Unfortunately, this stay was awful. I've never left a bad review here before, typically all 9s and 10s but was so uncomfortable I can't give a positive score. I stay in a wide variety of hotels regularly and never have complained before about settling the bill, however for nearly £200 for the room, to have the large kitchen/ cellar extractor fan outside your bedroom wall making a racket all through the night, the staff using it as their smoking area so even though the room was sweltering, if you open the window, the room fills with smoke and the smell of the kitchen. As it's the smoking area, it is disgusting outside, littered with rubbish and cigarette ends. I let reception know and showed the manager the pictures and if the matter had been dealt with, id never have left a review as I think it's fair to raise a complaint and let the hotel resolve it for you professionally. The manager was brusque, not very apologetic about it and just said they didn't say the room had a sea view. My complaint was, it was really noisy with their kitchen/ cellar fan outside on the bedroom wall so couldn't sleep (Not good when paying for a room to sleep in), room too hot, yet you couldn't open the window as it was the staff smoking spot. No view was no issue, the smoke, staff chatting on steps and constant fan noise was. The fact it looked disgusting and I showed this on the pictures wasn't ideal and I was really surprised she wasn't at all embarrassed by this. She said 15 percent off was the best they could do - £165 for a night in a room of that calibre is very poor quality. Everywhere else we stayed in Skye was of a significantly better standard and service. We booked it as we had stayed there previously and loved our sea view room and had no reason to complain. Dont stay in room 12 and I do hope you do not have cause to complain, as it doesn't seem to be dealt with well at all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the property was perfect. The room (premiere king with a harbor view) was very large and the bathroom was spectacular, with fantastic toiletries from the Highland Soap Company. The staff was wonderful...particularly a young woman originally from Italy who helped us with a dining reservation at the Chargrill, which was absolutely delicious. The breakfast was terrific. And miraculously we had no problem parking right in front of the hotel. The room was well appointed...comfortable bed, smart furnishings and attractive decor. We could hear no one else in any other room. It was perfect for a honeymoon getaway. My husband and I would gladly stay there again.
Cons: I wish we had more of a view of the water than the street. For a while we could smell something unpleasant in the room. However, we informed reception and maintenance looked into it and the issue went away.
7,0 Good
Pros: Room looked inviting. Bar was lively with a good range of drinks. Staff helped me with some photocopying.
Cons: Coffee wasn't very good. Room wasn't made up very well on one night, bed still looked rumpled.
5,8 Okay
Pros: meal in the restaurant was top notch - loved the food , breakfast was fine apart from the porridge which was very disappointing . Staff were friendly and helpful . Great choices of whisky in the Merchant Bar
Cons: Room very small but clean . Small bed and very small bathroom and shower but good water flow . Coffee machine couldn't get it to work - looked like a look alike nespresso but who knows . Need to be able bodied as no lift to rooms
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff and the facilities were fantastic and a great location.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Very clean and calm. Great breakfast. Kind staff. Very good food in the hotel’s restaurant.
Cons: A little bit overpriced, probably due to the high demand and few accommodation offers.

5,5 Okay
Pros: Stunning view is the only asset the property has
Cons: Description of spacious and price must be relative to other properties in Skye - we found it cramped and over priced compared to other places - it was just a bed in a room, the black out blind didn’t fit so we had street light flooding the room all night
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Small but cosy room with beautiful sea view. The best breakfast we had in Scotland.
Cons: Smelly carpet, otherwise very clean!

9,3 Excellent
Pros: The view is beautiful!
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: The views were amazing! But based on the stuff I didn't like it's not worth it.
Cons: I had a misunderstanding with booking and it was more important for the check-in person to prove me wrong then try to make it work (find a solution). Since the location is seriously the middle of nowhere they take advantage by charging a ridiculous prince for Breakfast. The floor is so squicky that I have no clue how the people below were sleeping when getting ready in the morning. There was also an older smell to the place. Especially in the hallway on the upper floor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Just gorgeous location and everything is super stylish and lovely.

Pros: Wonderful location, friendly staff.
Cons: Attic room, so cramped, and needed to be a contortionist to have a shower. Not suitable for us older folk!
6,3 Good
Pros: It was a very good sized room and the towels were high quality.
Cons: It was very warm in the room, there was no sheet on the bed just a thick down duvet. The bed was too soft and overall room was very expensive for what it was. Didn’t even include breakfast.

The Royal Hotel - Portree - Building

7,4 Good (704 reviews)
R2 728+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Royal Hotel in Portree, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Portree Harbour and Somerled Square. Free self parking is available onsite.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Staff were friendly. I asked for a fan in my room and was given one. As it had no lift, I needed help with my case and the receptionist came to my rescue.
Cons: Price is double that of other hotels on our trip and facilities 10 times worse. Car park is accessed by removing a chained padlock which was totally impossible for me to use on my own. Breakfast was below average, and only had 5 options on the cooked menu, non of which was porridge! Our previous hotel had table clothes and full table service for breakfast and was £140 per night! The decor was old and in places tatty, and the attached bar was rough. We chose not to eat dinner in the hotel as it didn’t appeal. The room we had was average but exceptionally warm. We used all the shower gel on the first day/ next morning, and they were not replaced by housekeeping. Nit picking a little, but at £219 per night I think justified.
7,5 Good
Pros: The views of the bay were stunning and it's in a great location.
Cons: It was a little expensive for what it was. Limited breakfast menu.
7,5 Good
Pros: Quite outdated but great location. Clean! Restaurant was good. For the money I expected a bit better furnishings but otherwise a nice option. Be sure to book dinner reservations ahead in this small town.
8,0 Excellent
Cons: Staff in restaurants not focused on drinks service slow
5,5 Okay
Cons: The rooms need to do some modernization!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: We read some negative comments about this hotel and were not sure what to expect. However, our room 40 was huge and very nice. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was satisfactory and the hotel staff was helpful.
Cons: Although we were reasonably ok with our stay for the price of nearly 200£ per night one would expect a bit more luxury. The breakfast staff was not attentive, brought me a wrong order despite the very little people. The breakfast was not the best we had. Our room was above the bar so on Saturday the life music kept us wake until 1am, no warning from the hotel. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Room was big, bright and comfortable, large bathroom. Good choice at breakfast.
Cons: Bar and lounge were almost empty and no atmosphere (considering Portree was very busy with tourists). Went elsewhere for drinks and dinner.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: View from our room was brilliant. Breakfast was superb
Cons: Not obvious where to park
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Central location; large clean & comfortable room; generous, included breakfast.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The Royal Hotel has a lovely breakfast area and offer a good choice of breakfast foods. They will cook eggs, waffles and bacon any way you want. The breakfast was free and the room is very large so there is lots of room for everyone. The breakfast staff are very accommodating, attentive and helpful. The location is perfect in the small village of Portree. Most of all, I can not say enough about the staff at this hotel. They are all the nicest and most caring group of individuals I've ever experienced in a hotel! Our party ran into a couple of problems (car trouble, eating issues, etc.) and they were quick to try to help us on anyway they could. They are so thoughtful and helpful, and it made our experience wonderfully exceptional!
Cons: Caution to anyone going to Portree during season (July-August). Restaurants fill up fast and you should always try to make reservations EARLY or you could be waiting to 10:00 at night to eat. There are not enough restaurants to meet the needs of the number of visitors for Isle of Skye and the surrounding areas of Portree. We did not learn that in advance and got stuck a few times. (However, the hotel staff was wonderful in helping us find solutions to any dilemmas we experienced.)

Pros: The staff were extremely friendly & helpful Bathrooms were clean & modern
Cons: The hotel was dated Bed quite hard, expensive for the size of room
5,0 Okay
Pros: Very expensive. 155 for one night for a double room and breakfast not included. Only booked it because no vacancies in the area and we needed to catch the ferry the next morning.
3,3 Mediocre
Cons: Extremely expensive for what you get. Don't book this hotel! Rooms very small, bad service, you get the impression all the hotel is interested in taking as much money from you as possible.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great location on the water nice room, excellent restaurant across the street, beautiful patio on the harbor.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Staff helpful.
Cons: Shower had little pressure in evening and very little in morning. Dust in room.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, friendly staff, typical Scottish breakfast.
Cons: Too expensive for what it is.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Nice location
Cons: The hotel was rather worn out. As there were no other rooms available on Skye we had to book this hotel but total price / quality ratio for us was rather poor.
7,5 Good
Pros: A reasonable selection of food at breakfast and this was fresh. View while eating breakfast was stunning.
Cons: Slightly disappointed at the lack of yogurts and also no choices for other teas/coffees etc apparent. I drink herbal tea and decaffinated coffee and neither obviously available. Perhaps if I had asked, but I feel this should be more easily available. Just felt the breakfast was really quite basic, although the food available was good.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great value for money comfortable very friendly staff excellent food have stayed before upstairs room at a lot nicer will be going back
Cons: Nothing
5,5 Okay
Pros: Checkout went quickly
Cons: Although looking nice when entering, Dirty rooms and bathrooms compared to its price. We had 2 rooms so could compare. Breakfast was disgusting, croissants uneatable even after they warmed them up. We left breakfast and bought croissants and coffee in the co-op next door. Very little to no parking space as half of it is reserved for coaches. I think 14 cars or so fit. We had 5 hotels during our trip to Scotland. All of them were fine to great, this one was a mistake and was luckily only booked for one night. Clearly taking advantage of being on the Isle of Skye
