9,1 Excellent
Pros: The staff goes above and beyond for everything from checkin to check out. The Inn is kept in great shape and as many have mention Everything in the rooms is very well appointed from Towels to having your own fireplace in the suite. Even other options for dinning are a short walk away so there was a variety to choose from. The front desk is only there from 8am-11pm so don't plan to check in late without calling ahead of time. I needed to check out early and they made sure to have someone there at the desk and made breakfast early for me to accommodate my early schedule. This is a great place for couples to get a quite VT getaway.
Cons: I only stayed one night and was for business so I did not get to enjoy all they had to offer.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Tim and Kerry are super welcoming and obviously work hard to please their guests. It was a better experience/place to stay than we expected.
Cons: There were some big black wasp bees hanging around the pool. They didn’t bother us in general but I wasn’t a fan of them. Might be a nest under the deck?

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent, on time, delicious. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, the mattresses good. The outdoor chairs were well located.
Cons: The toilets are very low, as is the tissue holder on the wall. The step into the room makes entering a bit difficult with luggage. The outdoor chairs were also low on the ground, more for sunning than taking in the beautiful view.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff made us feel at home. The home cooking was delicious and healthy. We enjoyed sharing a drink with our fellow inn-mates at the on-site bar.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely comfortable rooms rustically decorated, with a beautiful view across to the distant mountains. The fall colours were spectacular!
Cons: If one is 5-10 minutes late for breakfast, the hot breakfast is cold, as they serve the breakfast on the hour and don’t keep it warm if one is a few minutes late... A bit like boot-camp!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous breakfast prepared for your choice of breakfast time.

7,0 Good
Pros: The separate cottage arrangement (Innkeepers) worked great for our 5 person family gathering. Beautiful setting and mountain views with very intriguing artwork scattered throughout the spacious grounds. Excellent buffet, quality food ingredients and great views in the eating area. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Cons: Accommodations in the Innkeepers Cottage were sufficient but certainly not high-end. Remodeled kitchen is small but includes up-to-date appliances. Bedrooms, living, and dining areas are spacious with decent furniture but mattresses were disappointingly uncomfortable.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, staff is friendly and helpful, the whole property is beautifully decorated. It's not too far from Manchester with good restaurants and bars.
Cons: There is no onsite restaurant or bar, wifi was patchy in our room but worked fine on the ground floor, wasn't too big a deal.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were super cozy with some seriously awesome bedding! Breakfast was delicious and with the snow falling outside provided a killer morning view. The staff was always super nice and helpful. Their fireplace after a day on the mountains was icing on the cake.
Cons: The shower water pressure wasn't the best but it certainly didn't ruin the experience.

Pros: I loved the area and view. Pool was small but nobody was in it and we just wanted to cool off so perfect. Room was old fashioned but super clean and we absolutely were happy with it. Breakfast was at 8am so we were already on the road as needed to get back for work. We didn't notice the time until we found the breakfast room still locked up at 7:30 so our fault. Overall a nice evening, clean room, courteous staff. We had sliding glass door to a small deck but mosquitos were out in their glory so skipped that adventure.

Pros: The hotel had a great location, free parking & breakfast was included. The reception staff were very friendly & nice.
Cons: The room was not representative of the pictures taken on line. The room had not been updated since the 60/70’s and everything was very dated. I paid a lot of money for a hotel room which didn’t look like the pictures, it was completely false

Cons: Cont Breakfast
7,1 Good
Pros: The hotel is located on Depot street which goes right through the center of Manchester. There are a number of attractive looking restaurants within a half mile. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Cons: There was no bathroom door in our room (#201). Definitely a surprise but my wife and I have been married for 47 years so it wasn't a problem for us. There was a fridge but no microwave. The 2nd floor is accessed by a flight of stairs. Not a problem for some, a major potential problem for others.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The room was nice and big and the bed comfortable. The lady who received us was very nice. The grounds are beautiful.
Cons: i did have problems making the temperature in the room comfortable overnight
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful grounds and plantings, lovely, serene stream out back. Comfy and spacious room, ample parking.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: we went out for full breakfast-diner across the street, but the breakfast room looked inviting...
Cons: We slept in on Saturday & had "Do Not Disturb" sign on until about 12:15 pm-as we left for the afternoon we displayed the sign "Maid Service Please"-we returned later that afternoon to discover room had not been made up. When I called desk the owner (Male) said flippantly -"You had the sign on to not disturb". I said -"Just give us clean towels & we will leave it at that...'-he said "come to desk for them" but then brought them up to us and also immediately replaced a burned out light bulb, at our request. I feel that folks should be able to sleep in & also have room done up- the staff should have swung by later to see the sign for maid service. Having said this, every thing else was excellent the room was fastidiously clean when we arrived on Friday evening-Parking is really convenient. All rooms face away from parking lot, toward very attractive view of the back lawn & river. All furnishing were very comfortable including the bed. Their were two chairs set up near a table -they were comfortable to sit in to read-very unusual these days & rarest of all-the lighting in the room was excellent -overhead light, task lights over head for bed,s with convenient cord to shut off when ready to sleep, a reading lamp at the table & chairs. The room was also equipped with two sinks so we could both prepare for the day. Rooms feature a dorm style fridge that was also spotless & unplugged but ready to be plugged in, if one desired to use it The grounds are meticulously kept well attractive plantings. The female Innkeeper gave my husband quite a few suggestions for restaurants and sights to see, that were quite worthwhile. We would definitely return-I think it is the most well maintained Inn of any place we have ever stayed, including some very pricey hotels!!! It is obvious the innkeepers take great pride in their establishment and it shows.

Cons: Would have liked to have breakfast complimentary, especially given the price of the room - almost $1,000 for two nights. Also, too many room taxes!
6,7 Good
Pros: Staff at the Spa outstanding. Beautiful buildings and vibe.
Cons: Worst bed encountered in over fifty years of travel. Bed should have been replaced twenty years ago.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, service. Car service provided for a worry free night out to dinner!
Cons: Room was near noisy boiler. Kept kicking on throughout the night
4,2 Okay
Cons: Terrible experience! Used Master card to reserve a room only. Booking.com had a 10% discount if I paid in full at the time of making this reservation. I didn’t take that offer because I wanted to pay with my Visa card at the time of checkout. I’m currently living in Brazil and came up for Thanksgiving to spend time with my mom and take her to Vermont for a little getaway. At time of checking out, we checked out 1 hour early and yet it took me 1 hour to checkout because they had informed me that they charged the room and tax to the wrong credit card (what was used for making reservations only). I questioned the complex invoice and he couldn’t properly explain it to me but that he would be sending an email. When I returned to Connecticut, I checked my email and NEVER received the explanation. I then checked my Visa credit card to find several pending over charges (there were over $1,300 pending charges at one point). The next day I contacted the hotel manager to question how they allowed these charges without my consent. He then sent me a new invoice with additional charges and different from the invoice at the time of my checkout. Then he asked what time I checked out, which I told him 10am but took 1 hour. He then informed me there was an in-room dining charge 4 hours after I had already checked out. HOW IS THIS ALLOWED? After several calls, email exchanges, he refunded the in-room dining back but to the incorrect credit card, and supposedly as a goodwill, removed the daily tax. I still haven’t seen that refund (daily tax). Now that pending charges have cleared, I have 2 charges on my credit card for 2 prices that had nothing to do with my checkout invoice and STILL OVER $600 the price that was due. During my short stay in the US to spend with my family I had to deal with this non-sense every day and it’s now been over 2 weeks, and nothing resolved. All I asked was to be reimbursed of all incorrect charges and charged for the correct amount!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Room was nice and clean. Enjoyed the pool very much....even did laps which I hadn't done in a while. Enjoyed spa and massage and steam and sauna. Had a great meal for dinner, great staff.
Cons: Wish the breakfast hours were a bit longer. We didn't make breakfast as it closed at 11:00 a.m. Never like to see water for sale in a room for $7.00.....either provide the water or let people know it's for sale in the hotel, but I don't like that sort of item left in a room with a price.
9,2 Excellent

Pros: Lovely resort and area!
5,8 Okay
Pros: When we arrived at the 4:00 check in time there were no rooms available (for anyone not just me). The staff seemed completely clueless. After waiting over an hour I told the person at the front desk to refund my deposit and i would go down the street to the Kimpton. She said that the room was ready and not to do that. When we got to the room someone else was in it and wasn’t too happy to have us walk in on them. Went back to the desk and fought through a line of very angry people, I finally found someone who seemed concerned about the totally unacceptable situation. Her name was Krista and she seemed as appalled as we were about the situation. She somehow got us into a room, came and found us and gave us the keys. She waved the resort fees as a goodwill gesture. She was great. The room however was rushed cleaned and there was still cleaning products in the bathroom. Our luggage never arrived to the room and i had to go find it on a cart in a hall of the lobby and carrying it up to the second floor myself. The next morning when i went to the valet to get my car they couldn’t fund it. I had to find it myself in lot way behind the resort. I have to say the kid at the valet seemed genuinely concerned and apologized profusely. When finally checking out, the resort fees were still on The folio. I went to the front desk to rectify the situation and although the kid at the desk took off the charges with no argument, he barely spoke to me, didn't apologize, say thank you , nothing. I had to remind him that he’s working the fron desk of a famous resort and should show some evidence of a personality. I must be fair, the vast majority of the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, (john the bartender at the Marsh is great)and the property is beautiful. Its too bad that they hire young inexperienced kids. As one staffer said to me in reference to the debacle at checkin; “it was amateur hour last night”. I have to agree.

Cons: The weather, can't help that. Though.

7,4 Good
Pros: We were in the area to visit family, and it happened to be during the horse show, so prices at every other hotel/motel were hiked. This was a reasonable price and it turned out, comfortable accommodations. The rooms are dated, but our room was clean enough and pet-allergen free enough to accommodate my allergies. We requested a room where pets are not allowed. The beds were fine, the bath and room layout were excellent. We had a double vanity separate from the toilet/bath and curtained off from the sleeping area.
Cons: The pool was closed while we were there. It was hot and muggy and would have been nice. There was torrential rain one night and the parking lot was flooded. The rooms never seem endangered and the lot was cleared of floodwater within a few hours, but it was dramatic at the time. I was also concerned that there was no dead-bolt on the door. It is rural Vermont, and they seem to take these things more casually. We felt very safe otherwise.

Cons: Pretty rundown facility.
4,8 Okay
Cons: Beds were terrible. Decor and facilities were appallingly out of date. The breakfast buffet had a bag of white bread & cold cereal, a bowl of unappealing fruit, and little else to tempt you to stay. Sitting in a room last furnished in 1982 with green astroturf also did not appeal.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We booked one night and ended up extending for 2. The price was great! the room was large, the motel was as expected for it's category. we found the room and bathroom clean and had not concerns related to that. Staff was friendly and responsive. Location is just a few minutes drive to the restaurants in Manchester.

Pros: The staff were super helpful and friendly. Bartender John was so entertaining. Bed was really soft and comfy. Grounds gorgeous and well designed and groomed. Nice having coffee in the lobby. Location was wonderful.
Cons: Unfortunately, we had to wait along with several others for hours to get to a room! It was not ready at 4pm as we were told. Not enough staff on the desk this particular afternoon. No manager showed up as we requested. Confusing. Twice the desk attendant did not call us when the room was ready if there even was a room. We had to find a concierge and beg him to get us a room after almost 3 hours of frustration. The 1811 building should not be one of the properties, as we were sent there also. Awful old place. Empty, dirty, old. We didn’t even look at the room! We left and demanded another room. Were told none were available, but they really were. We did get a comp drink from the concierge, Richard to help with the stress. He got us a wonderful room in the main building and had our luggage moved up. Thank goodness for him. All else good from there except once our key cards wouldn’t work and we had to get them reprogrammed. Hope this helps. Probably one unusual frustrating day and we suffered for it that evening!

Pros: Breakfast in the main dining room. The swimming pool.
Cons: The initial two rooms assigned were too small. The rooms shown on the website were shown as 300 square feet but were less than 200 square feet.. 13x 14. The king sized bed practically took the whole room. The room 601 in the Charles Orvis Inn lacked some basic amenities: mirror ; only one Night table, no clock radio; no coffee maker; no microwave or refrigerator; no desk; We complained and We upgraded to a larger room with two queen beds. We were promised a suite on The 2d floor of the Orvis inn by Cynthia and Jenn but woman named Erin... who claimed to be in charge of guest services denied the promise of the suite and called my wife a liar! She was very Unprofessional and despicable. We finally got a better room number 136 and our stay was improved. The food and the service in the Marsh Tavern was Poor. We had good meals off premises.

Pros: Room was not what I expected for 350 a night
Cons: Small room bathroom was not updated to 350 a night standards

Pros: Rooms are very old. Not kept clean. Bathrooms were terrible.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The staff was lovely. The room was not ready. Arrived at 5:30 (check-in was 4:00). Was kindly directed to lounge and would receive a phone call when room was ready ..
Cons: The room (in the townhouse) was not so great. Realize I had booked at the last minute in the height of the leaf peeping season but was traveling on business. Needed to stay in the area for meetings. Last minute booking but was surprised at the subpar condition of the room; cobwebs in the corner near headboard; gobs of dust on floor register, sprinkler mounted to wall had dropped and left stains down the wall; bathroom mirror was streaked and dusty; cheap fixtures in bathroom all around. I travel quite a bit for business as well as leisure, had it not been for the staff and the lovely main house I would have been more critical. Obviously the resort was full but there is no reason that the property should have been caught off guard. Side note; no coffee maker in room, housekeeping had run out of available machines. Why are there not coffee makers in each room? Again had early meetings scheduled. Arrived in lobby to grab a coffee at 6:45 am; within moments other guests were saying that the coffee urn was empty..can’t tell you how upset I would have been if I had been stuck waiting for another urn especially after waiting the evening before to get into a room..
7,1 Good
Pros: We were put in a cottage that was ancient and questionable and for the price way overpriced. Unless you book early the housing is poor
Cons: Room was dark depressing. Probably the last room they had. Dining staff was so strictly trained they did not know how to improvise. With an empty dining room they were reluctant to that us enter that or a pub because we did not have reservations.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Very walkable, excellent pool and outdoor space.
Cons: Had to call housekeeping multiple times to get a singular task taken care of. We found dirty towels in our room upon arrival. Housekeeping is the largest problem with this inn. When you’re paying a lot of money to stay somewhere it would be nice if the room was clean upon arrival and housekeeping actually kept the room stocked with toilet paper, and iron, and towels...
9,2 Excellent
Pros: I liked the privacy at the meadow house. Spa was excellent!!!
Cons: I feel like they could have been a little more attentive to us at the house. We had to ask to get the room cleaned, clean towels, more coffee pods for ice, for an ironing board more than once. Just the little things that I’m sure at the main hotel people were treated different.

Pros: Staff was nice but there is literally 2 people working at the entire hotel. That’s the only thing good about this place.
Cons: Felt like we were in a horror movie, half the place was shut down, completely run down. It was like this place hadn’t been touched since the 80s. So much potential it’s sad but it really needs some serious renovations. Maybe worth 20 bucks a night and we paid close to 200.
