9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect for exploring ‘The Potteries’. The food was delicious - both evening and breakfast. The staff were attentive and very friendly. The lovely gardens and walks around the hotel. I loved the modern bathroom with walk-in shower. We felt very comfortable and relaxed and really enjoyed our stay.
Cons: Can’t think of anything we didn’t like. The only thing was the room was a bit small and decor needed a little updating, but comfy bed and fab bathroom made up for it!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Special breakfast served in the lounge (dogs not permitted in the restaurant but fine everywhere else). Dog even got 2 sausages! Exceptional service. Open grounds brilliant for the necessary dog trips out.
Cons: Dog charge acceptable but a little steep.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our visit was necessitated by a very ill relative who lives nearby, and also three other elderly and sick friends in the area. So the whole of our three days in Staffordshire were going to be tiring, fraught with difficulty and possibly stressful. We chose this hotel because if its location, a little out of the city but very close. We also like family-run hotels. In the event, the Upper ~House Hotel made all the difference to our journey, in particular the very friendly and helpful staff, who make this hotel and very happy and relaxing place to stay. Do hotel staff always smile naturally and laught with each other in a very genuine way? These do - and what a difference it makes to all the guests
Cons: At our age, we really good good lighting. This wasn't bad in the room, but it was certainly dimmer than we are really comfortable with. It was also damp and foggy weather so we couldn't really enjoy the garden - but if this is the worst you can say about a hotel - ??
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic old fashioned beautifully maintained property in lovely grounds. Staff were wonderful
5,0 Okay
Pros: Friendly staff. Lovely bathroom and towels. Great restaurant. Super breakfast. Lovely location and views.good communal areas. Good, friendly service at reception and restaurant and breakfast. Very quiet in room. Lee who looked after us at dinner and fitted us in to a fully booked diary.
Cons: Executive room did not feel welcoming. The bed/mattress felt tired/old. There were only two medium pillows on double bed and one cushion! The lighting in the room was terrible. It was too bright and there were not enough mood lighting lamps. There was something sharp under the sheet which I did not feel able to uncover for fear of spoiling the whole stay. The artwork on the walls was not in keeping with the promise of staying in an historical property....very poor taste and cheap. Basically I think the hotel is perfect for events and parties but our room ambience did not match up to the rest of the hotel. I think the hotel focuses on large parties for events and dining therefore they are not concentrating on the room experience in my opinion. Would have expected Josiah Wedgwood inspired artworks, references throughout and crockery....its an important historical house which sadly indicates no reference of its heritage to its guests within its interior design, certainly nothing in our bedroom. There was a lack of sockets in the room and we had to ask for wine glasses to be brought up.....it’s always good to offer your guests an ice bucket and wine flutes when they arrive. If they haven’t brought their own champagne it’s a great way to up-sell. Just my thoughts. Thank you Lee in the restaurant for saving the day.!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable room. Nice breakfast. Comfortable communal areas.
Cons: On our first night there was a wedding and there was some noise late at night.

Pros: Lovely big rooms. Private en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was brilliant. Very well priced for location! Owners very nice and polite.
Cons: Beds were very uncomfortable. Shower wasnt very powerful at all. In room kettle was in poor condition and left white floaters in cups, from the element.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: lovely place...lovely nights sleep...lovely breakfast...happy bunny
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location, set away from any noise. Its a very short drive to Alton Towers if you are planning a short break and want somewhere cheaper than their hotels to stay in. Very easy to find, tucked away and very peaceful. The room was very nice, decorated lovely and with plenty of space to put things. Warm and freindly welcome and if you stay you will be well looked after. Breakfast was very good and we really appriciated the early time so we could get to the park early to avoid all the opening ques.
Cons: There was nothing we would change about this place, its lovely.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome I received was great, even though I arrived late due to the nature of the business I am in. I was shown to a large room with a double bed and a large en-suite which was more than adequate. I had a great night’s sleep and then went down to a fantastic breakfast with the very friendly and interesting proprietor. Would definitely recommend and will hope to return soon.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly
Cons: Not applicable
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This was our second visit to the fabulous Abbot's Haye guesthouse which is fast becoming an annual thing now. Every Scarefest at Alton Towers we make sure to stay at our home away from home. It's cosy and warm and Pam makes us feel so welcome, it really is a pleasure staying here. She cannot do enough for us and is so easy going and accommodating, it was a pleasure bringing other family members to see what all (our!) fuss was about and especially Pam's breakfast which is legendary. We're already looking forward to returning for a third time next year!
Cons: No complaints what-so-ever.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great wifi and breakfast. Nice location and old style large country cottage with lovely gardens and ample parking. In my view the old furnishing gave the the B&B character. Very good value and a lovely host.
Cons: Nothing I did not like however, some may be put off as it is not 'modern' with modern furnishings.

Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: An amazing place to stay. Loved everything about it. I would recommend it to anyone.
Cons: Nothing.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Finding somewhere where we, as a large family, could all be together was a massive plus for me.
Cons: Not a negative, but more something which would have enhanced our stay further. Crockery and cutlery would be an advantage in the kitchen area, but I understand the reasons as to why the owners might not want to go down this route.

Pros: Friendly staffs
Cons: Limited breakfast options.
1,0 Poor
Pros: The staff were very rude and not helpful in anyway at all. It was like they did not want you to be there. Very dissapiunted to say the least.
Cons: I did not like the staff and the service. It made everything else feel bad because of the way the staff were
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The little 'help yourself' area for tea tray supplies was a great addition.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast buffet has improved with more hot food and the self service area has improved from our last visit. Bedroom was very clean and felt comfortable.....
7,0 Good
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful, the wet room was very roomy. The only problem l had in the wet room was that l pulled the alarm pull thinking it was the pull to turn the shower on,if there could have been a sign up, as l wasn't wearing my glasses as l was going to have a shower.
Cons: When going to have breakfast, l made a mug of tea and my husband did,we had the hot water out of the machine, and when we drank it tasted of cleaning liquid. We don't think the machine had been rinsed out. As we made another tea and used the hot water out of the coffee machine which tasted much better

Pros: The staff were nice and recommended places to eat and get petrol. There was a separate garden where we could walk the dogs, they stayed on leads as the garden wasn't secure.
Cons: The decor needs updating, the ceiling paper was coming off. The shower needs improving as the flow was slow.
7,1 Good
Pros: Location close to M6. Staff pleasant and chatty.
Cons: It needs updating. En-suite shower was poor. Public areas very dated.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: A lovely and warm host , a very comfortable location on our way from london to lake District and there was room for our dog which was brilliant!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Dog friendly, ideal location for us visiting family and great breakfast
5,4 Okay
Pros: We arrived on Saturday afternoon and were greeted in a very friendly way. Nice to see free parking. Staff were great including the fact that the chef opened up early to accommodate our early leaving.
Cons: The house, although having "character", could do with a makeover. It is extremely old fashioned, moreso than I found to be acceptable for the price I paid. Much better places are available for a similar price. Dining times were not advertised on booking.com, which meant our departure on the Sunday morning presented a problem. Rather than getting the full English we enjoy (which we usually enjoy when we stay at a hotel) we had to make do with eggs and toast, as Breakfast didn't start till 8.30! We were due to check out at 8.15. Special mention though to the owner and chef who was contacted at home and opened up earlier than usual to give us at least something before we left. We had a glass of wine each on the Saturday afternoon and wanted some lemonade to go with it. No lemonade! A bar with no lemonade? Not good. Bar in wardrobe fell down when I was hanging my clothes up. Easily fixed, but should it be loose?

Pros: Clean and friendly staff
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness,helpful staff.
7,0 Good
Pros: I didn't book breakfast or use the leisure facilities, so I can't comment on those. The room was a good size for me ... and would be plenty for a couple too. It was clean and warm (the heating coming from a proper radiator not an electrical, panel heater). The bathroom was a good size, with a heated towel rail. The rooms face away from the road, so that cuts down traffic noise too, which is nice.
Cons: The room (201) did show several scuffs and chips in the plasterwork from people in the past. There was a strange buzzing sound too - which emanated from an electrical junction box underneath the desk. If one is a light sleeper, it might be a problem.
6,0 Good
Pros: Comfortable beds and clean room however dated.
Cons: Dirty glasses at the bar. Quite run down place.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved it great place to stay Friendly staff Great food Family friendly Comfortable Cosy What more could you ask for? Absolutely nothing

Pros: good location, nice sized room . Good food available in evening from teh bar. good breakfast. good road links, easy to find from motorway.
Cons: Had a good view of teh bins but someone has to. In fact, hotel is sort of in industrial estate, so no graet views. however, good grounds and could convince self are in countryside. good central location in Stoke and Staffordshire
7,0 Good
Pros: Breakfast good. Pleased that they were able to cook vegetarian sausages to order.
Cons: Evening meal disappointing with a very limited menu in a restaurant that closed at 8.30pm. Corridor outside room very noisy at 3.00am as people went to bed. Didn't help that there was a one inch gap at bottom of door! Also windows draughty and in need of maintenance. £5 to park overnight excessive.

6,3 Good
Pros: Cheap accommodation. Reception staff was friendly.
Cons: The jacuzzi bath didn’t work. The toilet leaked on the floor, plus floor slopped . Cobwebs in the corners of the room.
5,0 Okay
Pros: I arrived quite late in the evening and check in was quick and efficient. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The location of the hotel opposite the station was very convenient. Buffet breakfast was fine and the bed and breakfast package was at a reasonable price.
Cons: My room was right at the end of a long corridor. Quite basic bathroom with obviously old pipework. Unfortunately there was an event on at the hotel and even though it was Sunday night, the music was quite loud and went on into the small hours, well after midnight.
4,0 Okay
Pros: The location and the pillows
Cons: No bedside lamp, No free WiFi, not enough wall sockets in room
6,0 Good
Pros: I liked the location & the parking.
Cons: The dinner sounded good value for money. It turned out to be overcooked, dryish and not very good. The coffee was appalling.
1,0 Poor
Pros: The only positive feature of the hotel was it just in front of the station. Thats all! Only few of reception staff smiled for 6 days! Others just looked at my face when i say good morning etc.
Cons: It was the worst hotel that i have stayed so far. They have a paid wifi service in UK, in 2020(!) that i found it as against the international tourist rights. You cannot to anything when you want to explore what i can do in that boring city! Even worse already, the paid wifi service did never worked even in front of their lobby! I stayed there for 6 days,no room service came to my room! Really, for 6 days! The room was relatively cold with the reason of under-construction! 5 of my friend stayed in the same hotel, that couldnt have breakfast because it was terrible!

Pros: Room was basic but still fantastic value for money. It was clean and tidy with everything we needed and a good en-suite bathroom with a big bath. The staff were fabulous, friendly and helpful. The old building is palatial and impressive. We were served breakfast by a lovely lady in a beautiful salon decorated with neoclassical period plasterwork reminiscent of local decorative arts genius, Josiah Wedgwood...The breakfast was world-class. Huge, well cooked and delicious. Local pubs are friendly, lively and full of charm. We loved our stay here and we'll certainly be back.

Cons: -not any that i can think of-
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing, I would definately not reccommend this hotel to anybody!
Cons: Charged us twice for rooms! Didn't sort this out until we threatened legal action! Very unwelcoming, blood stained walls, horribly dirty carpet, bedding, broken bathroom doorknob, window was broken, rooms were really hot and smelt like indian takeaway? Breakfast was horrible. Told us when we arrived at the hotel that we only had 8 rooms booked, after we left they charged our card for 10 rooms, whereas we only used 8! Yes, this is budget accommodation, but I didn't expect this budget, would have been better staying at a hostel!
2,3 Mediocre
Pros: The sheets were clean, and the water was hot. The staff were friendly.
Cons: Everything in the room looked "tired" and the room smelled of smoke. There was no plug in sink, the light over the mirror didn't work, and the toilet required 3 or 4 heavy pushes on the flush before anything happened. The windows were dripping with condensation. The bedspread looked very grubby. Our "continental" breakfast was a piece of soggy toast and a cup of tasteless coffee.
3,0 Mediocre
Cons: The hotel was dirty and in need of a serious refurbishment. In the lobby, there was a distinct smell of someone smoking drugs. There were several members of staff stood around here, but i would not like to speculate as to who was smoking. I would advise against staying here. I am a contractor, and this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, with over 15 years experience of hotels.
5,2 Okay
Pros: Easy access for Trentham Gardens
Cons: The heat in the rooms was a little unbareable, the window was open but the noise of the traffic and trains meant the windows had to be closed during the night. The radiator was on a very hot temp in the hall outside our room. We did feel that the one part of the hotel looked a little fresher & newly decorated as it smelled very nice walking through the hall, but we were put into the older part of the building which I think until recently was the smoking rooms. This part was a little staler smelling and the doors were very old compared to the newly decorated part of the hotel. The hotel was not full at the time,so I wonder why we were not given rooms which had been decorated. On the whole it served our purpose as we were only there for a short stay to go to our daughters graduation
