Pros: The staff were kind and helpful. The room was wonderful, with big tatami mats, a spacious bathroom, big bathtub, fancy toilet, and even a massage chair. I loved the Kaiseki food. The onsen was relaxing and tattoo friendly. They even arranged a free guide for me to tour Nara, and gave me cookies to feed the sacred deer.

Early breakfast on Nara Marathon day. 6) took photo of us & presented photo upon check out. 7) reception & dining staff always friendly with a smile & always greet us.

Pros: Beautiful Japanese room and hotel in general, excellent breakfast, great public bath, outstanding service. It is when things go wrong that you can evaluate service. Because Japanese breakfast take a lot of time to prepare we are asked the day before the time of the breakfast. The second day we wanted ti have breakfast 1/2h earlier, but because of a misunderstanding the staff for breakfast did not know. They rushed to prepare us the breakfast in less than 10 minutes,

Slightly longer walk to the Nara-Koen , but easily accessible for even the moderately fit! Very clean and comfortable room. Access to a fully equipped kitchen if you want to cook. Pros: Very nice property with extremely friendly staff. The woman at check-in was extremely nice and helpful. I was thrilled with the location. Even though it's right by the station (you don't even need to leave the station to get to the entrance) the room was silent. The onsen was also very enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again.

Pros: We stayed 2 nights at the Nara Hotel in early Dec, having booked a run of the house which was excellent value. We stayed in the old part of the hotel. Our bathroom had been fully renovated. The location was perfect for exploring the park, which is very large. We're very glad we stayed two nights in Nara, there's plenty to see and the Nara Hotel, too, was lovely.

Pros: This is a traditional Ryokan with 2 public baths, both of them are on the top floor which one is indoor and one is outdoor. I travel with one friend and we booked a family tatami room. The room is really spacious, other than the sleeping area, there is a sofa seating area and another tatami seating area. Location is good for us as we are the type of traveler that loves walking around, and it is quiet nearby that we had a very good sleep after the bath. It is located right opposite to the tourist centre which you can find useful information there. It takes around 20 mins to walk from Nara JR station, but it is very close to the shopping street which you could find many interesting local shops (around 5-10 mins walk). To go to the Nara Park area, it takes around 15-20 mins (we start from going to the Nara National Museum). The breakfast and dinner were also good, we had the dinner inside our room for the first night, dinner was nice and delicious. Their staff are also helpful, I asked them to call to book a workshop experience and they did their best to explain and help. If I have a chance to travel to Nara again, I will definitely choose Asukasou again :) Totally recommended!

Pros: I loved the dinner and breakfast - both traditional style - delicious and beautifully presented. The dining rooms was stylish and calm, and all the public areas had soft music and a quiet atmosphere. The public baths were great too - I really enjoyed sitting in the outdoor one and admiring the view of the pagoda. Kimono to wear in the hotel was really good too.

Pros: The location, close to the JR Nara station on the Osaka-Kyoto line, was very convenient for us. This station is a bit farther from the main tourist attractions than the other railway station, but it really wasn't that far - about 20 minutes' walk. The room was small (typical for Japan) but it was very clean and comfortable. We thought the breakfast was very good value. I would certainly stay here again.

Pros: The location, close to the JR Nara station on the Osaka-Kyoto line, was very convenient for us. This station is a bit farther from the main tourist attractions than the other railway station, but it really wasn't that far - about 20 minutes' walk. The room was small (typical for Japan) but it was very clean and comfortable. We thought the breakfast was very good value. I would certainly stay here again.

Cons: Weird hotel policy to switch air-conditioning to only heating from one day to the other while ignoring actual temperatures. Our room recorded temperatures as high as 26deg in late November. The lady at the front desk didn't want to understand this problem and wasn't helpful which is very unusual for Japanese hotels. Furthermore, one bed in the room was back breaking hard. Had to request two additional paddings to make it somewhat tolerable. Very conflicting with the fact that the hotel chain is advertising with their comfortable beds.

Cons: It’s very old fashioned and a little dated in terms of decor etc. But towels and sheets were spotless so couldn’t fault that. We don’t have breakfast as there are loads of good cafes in a Naramachi nearby (try Mia’s Bread or one of the French bakeries) but the restaurant looked a little formal for the standard of hotel, and there was a service charge to drink in the bar - even for guests, which obviously sucks and loses them loads of business but whatever - Nara has some nice places to spend the evening so just use this place to sleep.
