Pros: This hotel provides the complete package: really excellent service, excellent location neat Kintetsu Nara Station, and a very short walk from Nara Park, large well equipped rooms and bathrooms, and a fully equipped free minibar. We had a very comfortable stay. On departure, they insisted on carrying our luggage to the train station.

Pros: The close proximity to Nara Park was a definite plus. It must be the best location in the city for visitors. The hotel was elegant, the staff were helpful and most courteous and the meals taken in the hotel were of a high standard and beautifully presented. It rates as our best hotel experience ever, I believe. The raising of the national flag of resident guests is a wonderful touch.

7,5 Good
Pros: Beautiful room with outlook onto garden courtyard.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Centre of town can be reached in a couple of minutes. Very friendly owners (who gave us great ideas for lunch and dinner in the surroundings); old, traditional Japanese house (ex-calligraphy school). Large (and quite beautiful, especially the one downstairs) rooms.
Cons: Really a "youthhostel" feeling, which somehow surprised us. List of rules (incl. switch-off of electricity at 11:00 p.m.!) that you are explicitly and upon arrival made to read, incl. that you are to unmake your bed and bring down sheets and everything upon departure. Besides tea and water, you have to pay extra for anything that you desire (incl. extra towel, bicycle). No jakuta (in-house "kimono") provided. Your room will not be entered during your stay, for the better and the worse of it.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The beautiful home and the lovely helpful hosts.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Naramichi guesthouse is a hundred years old traditional japanese house, well cared after by the hosts. It was a pleasure to stay with Shunju and Kimiko for 3 days, they speak great English and are always available to give information or teach you some japanese words and traditions. The common area is lovely and very welcoming. I highly recommend this accommodation to everyone. I hope to be back in Nara soon.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a very lovely and traditional guesthouse near the station. It is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. The owners are very lovely and always helpful. They‘ll give you information about all the showplaces around the area. You feel very welcome. In the living room is a place to eat and there is coffee and tea for free. This traditional guesthouse shows you a bit of the good old Japanese style. Very nice!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous house with a rich history, nice owners, has everything you may need.
Cons: Not a fan of late check in times in Japan. 4pm - 10am is too little for a house like that, so be sure to stay at least two nights.
Super Hotel Lohas Jr Nara-Eki - Nara - Building
3
9,0 Excellent (4 529 reviews)
R1 158+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at SUPER HOTEL Lohas JR NARA-EKI in Nara, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Kofuku-ji Shrine and Nara National Museum. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I really love that I can access the hotel via a short bridge directly from JR Nara station as I had a really large luggage with me. The hotel was really comfortable and I love how staff went out of the way to make the stay a bit more personalised with the handwritten welcome card. The hotel also has hot spring facilities that I sadly didn't have time to make use of. I also liked how the hotel uses those new passcode based locks so no more need to carry a hotel card around. Finally, I accidentally left my jacket in the hotel room upon checkout but when I went back at the end of the day to enquire about it, they had it kept and nicely wrapped up.
Cons: Not the fault of the hotel, but do note that this hotel is quite a walk away from the famous attractions on the east side of the city so do factor that in if you have a tight schedule.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It is great, you can choose your own pillow, have onsen, near jr station but really quiet

Cons: if time of check out could be later, will be better
7,1 Good
Pros: location and perfect service
Cons: the room was not exactly the same as I ordered. I stayed with family (wife and daughter (16 years old) and it actually was only one big bed and one place almost for Japanese-style floor sleeping. When I book this room I expected (been offered for 14,100 JPY) room with two separate beds.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: the location is very convenient, which is next to the JR Nara station, there are a lot of buses in front of the hotel,u can choose ur favourite pillow from many ones and the working staff are so friendly and professional, plus, they have onson itself. though I didn't experience it. actually, there is a big supermarket nearby and u can buy a lot of stuffs over there

Pros: Very comfortable and spacious room with quality toiletries - we were in the triple room with beds and private external bath. Food is excellent and a highly recommended part of the experience. Bonuses from hotel includes welcome tea, deer biscuits and a free photo as memorabilia.
Cons: On a very hot day, the place is a bit far to walk to/from the Kintetsu station. Because of the heat, we did not utilise the private outdoor bath.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location!
Cons: Too bad there wasn’t a shuttle van to the train station. We had 7 in our group and we had to take 3 taxis to and from the property.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredible - never felt so warmly welcomed as a female solo traveller. The facilities were brilliant as there is a onsen and sky view balcony . The bedroom was a great traditional experience . The little details across the hotel influenced by Nara’s deer were a really sweet touch to the place. Location was good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were kind and helpful. The room was wonderful, with big tatami mats, a spacious bathroom, big bathtub, fancy toilet, and even a massage chair. I loved the Kaiseki food. The onsen was relaxing and tattoo friendly. They even arranged a free guide for me to tour Nara, and gave me cookies to feed the sacred deer.
Cons: I wish I stayed longer :)

Cons: It's hard to think of anything to dislike.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Superb staff, so gracious and helpful. Meals were amazing, as were the onsens.
Cons: I didn't like that my stay was too short!!!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The place looks recently refurbished but still maintains a traditional feel The public onsen is absolutely amazing and the open air one has a great view too. Given that we travelled off-season it was always empty, which is an extra benefit Both the baths and the rooms were impeccably clean, with all the possible toiletries included (including facial toner and lotion) Japanese-style rooms have very comfortable futon beds (we stayed at a few ryokans so have something to compare it to...) The staff is extremely attentive and polite with some knowledge of English We only had breakfast included and this was great quality as well Given that Nara is usually a day trip destination, this property is amazing value for what it offers and you are likely to pay twice the price for comparable ryokans in Hakone and other resort towns. Cannot recommend this place enough!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, baths, and outstanding quality in the restaurant. Really conveniently located right next to Nara Park, 10 minute walk from JR station. Would definitely stay there again, great value for the money. Highly recommended.

Cons: Lobby and hallways could use a renovation.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The Asukasou hotel is a traditional Japanese ryokan located close to the shops and Nara park. The hotel also has the onsen (hot springs) in the building and it is a wonderful experience to soak in the hot water in cold days.
8,3 Excellent
Cons: The position of the futon was in the lightest part of the room. The room was not dark enough and the light woke us up early.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Kaiseki meal was delicious and a wonderful experience.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room. Very clean and staff very kind and attentive.
Cons: Nothing
9,6 Excellent
Pros: I loved the dinner and breakfast - both traditional style - delicious and beautifully presented. The dining rooms was stylish and calm, and all the public areas had soft music and a quiet atmosphere. The public baths were great too - I really enjoyed sitting in the outdoor one and admiring the view of the pagoda. Kimono to wear in the hotel was really good too.
Cons: I wished they had provided more towels - just one small bath towel to be used both in the Bathroom in my room and in the public baths seemed a little mean.

8,4 Excellent (257 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Nara Ugaya Guest House – Hostel in Nara, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Kofuku-ji Shrine and Nara National Museum. Featured amenities include luggage storage and a library.
7,5 Good
Pros: Sometimes you can hear traditional Japanese music from one of the hosts. The cafe bar style common room is cozy. There is terrace on top of the building. The main shopping street is just on the parallel street, and the main temple area is fairly close also. The safety boxes are fairly big (a laptop can easily fit in).
Cons: There is one shower on the top floor (one needs to climb the stairs), and a sink on the floor of the bedrooms. Both are a bit inconvenient. There is no option to make or warm up your own food. The hosts seemed to do what they do out of obligation (or maybe they were just tired).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very homely feel. Very welcoming and traditional Japanese house stay. Very close to Nara station and easy to walk and find.
Cons: Our room didn't have a lock but Japan is very safe and trusting so we didn't have to worry.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Japanese style house with authentic local vibe. The owner playing the Biwa was a good touch! Extremely kind, patient and helpful host. Worth the money!
Cons: As it was a guesthouse the amenities were just normal (but not inadequate). A little too cramped with less space for movement and luggage storage. Also, cash only payment method.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Small, old and cozy japanese style of house with very kind owner that is really happy to provide you any information about Nara and surrounding of his accommodation. Locker is big enough for standing laptop or small suitcase. Bunk bed was really comfortable :)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The guest house staff was friendly and very nice
Cons: The room was a bit more for five people.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Japan is considered an expensive country to visit, but it is possible to travel without breaking the bank. Nara Ugaya Guesthouse, located just minutes from Nara Park and two major train stations (JR Nara and Kintetsu Nara), offers some nice traditional facilities for a very good price.
7,9 Good
Pros: It was very much staying in an extension of their house so you got to experience everything in a rather traditional manner. I had a room for 3 to myself which was nice!
Cons: A bit cold (it was a cold a d rainy day) and there were only two showers for all the rooms/beds. It didn't have a big impact as it wasn't full.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: It is located in a quiet small road, but very close to the train station. The staff is very nice and helpful.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: It was verry nice place, the Host really understood me that i wanted to learn a litle bit of japanese. he also did a small traditional japanese ceremony with singing and playing some instruments what was really nice.
Cons: the Rooms were a bit windy, what is perfect for summer but when it is cold you will notice it, just like the bathroom. but the heating and futon were really thick and warm.

3,8 Mediocre
Pros: The room is big and has jacuzzi in the balcony. Free parking outside the hotel.
Cons: When we first entered the room, we found a moving centipede. After we killed it, we further found a dead cockroach in the blanket. We asked for an exchange of room, but the room the staff allocated to us was even older and looked more dirty. It had smell as well. Since we had booked three rooms in total for our families, we proposed to squeeze into the other two rooms and did not want the third room. We asked for a refund for the third room but the staff refused to do so. They said that as the payment was made electronically, they could not do so. I asked them to void the payment and I could pay again for the two rooms but they refused to do it. It was so unfair that in the end we only used 2 rooms but paid for 3 rooms. Even for the remaining two rooms, we found spider web at the corner of the rooms. Although there was Jacuzzi in the balcony, we dared not to use it and open the glass door to the balcony fearing that there would be centipedes moving in. We could not sleep well because we feared that there would be cockroaches and centipedes.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Cute little hotel a little away from main areas of Nara which is exactly what I needed after being in cities all the time, the surrounding area with the lake is very beautiful, The staff was so friendly and allowed me a bike to travel around nara which was one of my most favourite things I've done in Japan, also a hot tub surprised me outside in my room

Pros: The Nara park, Todai-ji, Kasuga-Taisha, and deer house are all within 10-15 minutes walking. The staff was very polite and can speak English. The breakfast was good, but needs to pay extra 1510 Yen for adult and 750 Yen for child. Free parking is next to the hotel building until 12pm after check out, can request to extend to 1pm so that you have some buffer time to make your way back from the tour.

Pros: Receptionists are nice, they can speak a little English and we didn't face a problem communicating our early check-in and check-out. Really enjoyed the tatami room experience. Pillow may be a bit hard for some people, but I liked it. Hotel is around 10 mins walk from Kintetsu-Nara station. It is also located next to one of the attractions - Kofukuji temple, while Nara Park is also in walking distance. Also close to lots of restaurants and convenient stores. We had a view of a lake outside our room which was nice.
Cons: Toilet was really small and toilet light was a little dim.
6,3 Good
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff, even though they spoke little English. Great location!
Cons: Old building and facilities, which makes it poor quality for the money. Tiny bathroom and small room even though it was the most expensive in the hotel. Location was great but not sure it deserved the price.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent place. Staff were extremely nice. We arrived early morning after a long and exhausted night travel and the receptionist were fantastic and super accommodating.

Pros: location is very good, breakfast is excellent
5,0 Okay
Pros: It was in a good location near the train stations and local attractions.
Cons: The staff were not helpful at all. They Showed no interest in us as foreign guest that could only speak English. We arrived at the hotel without a reservation and they tried to give us the most expensive room in the hotel for ¥55 000 per night. When we told them about much cheaper options on booking.com they made us do a booking on the platform and told us to wait for 40 minutes till they receive the booking. This was at 19:00 in the evening. They didn’t explain anything about where we could have dinner or breakfast the next morning. The hotel is an old dilapidated hotel with no charm that once offered true glamour to its guest. It is currently under refurbishment and therefore large parts of the hotel is unaccessible. We stay in the new wing which offered nothing ‘new’ of special except a good size room for Japan.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is an enjoyment with the services and food. The Japanese restaurant is great!!! With that price, you won’t get the same quality and service anywhere

Pros: The hotel has lots of history and is in a great location. It’s beautiful on the outside but a little dated inside but it does add to the charm of your stay. It’s within walking distance of all the best attractions and if we went back again I would definitely rebook this hotel.
Cons: You have to pay extra for a baby cot
