Pros: Centre of town can be reached in a couple of minutes. Very friendly owners (who gave us great ideas for lunch and dinner in the surroundings); old, traditional Japanese house (ex-calligraphy school). Large (and quite beautiful, especially the one downstairs) rooms.
Cons: Really a "youthhostel" feeling, which somehow surprised us. List of rules (incl. switch-off of electricity at 11:00 p.m.!) that you are explicitly and upon arrival made to read, incl. that you are to unmake your bed and bring down sheets and everything upon departure. Besides tea and water, you have to pay extra for anything that you desire (incl. extra towel, bicycle). No jakuta (in-house "kimono") provided. Your room will not be entered during your stay, for the better and the worse of it.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The beautiful home and the lovely helpful hosts.
Cons: Nothing
9,6 Excellent
Pros: I think the location is great since the restaurant around 10 mins and the supermarket around 5 mins. The bus station is pretty close, like 1 min walk. However, everything in Nara close around 9 pm or early, so if you wanna hang out at night, be sure you arrive as early as possible. If you are go with older/inconvenience people, please remember contact house owner at first. There is a room at first floor, but most of them are in second floor (no elevator but stairs)
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The people were really nice and spoke very good English.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location quiet but close, lovely deluxe Japanese room, helpful hosts who give just the right information.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: We were only here for one night, but we were very happy staying here! Copious amounts of tea, a very comfortable common space with light music playing made it so easy to get work done. The building was old, historic, and beautiful. Our hosts were very kind and let us keep our luggage there after checkout.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great atmosphere and hosts well organized. Balance of professional and friendly. Close to many sentoh bath and set away from main tourist area but close enough to walk. Bedroom simple Japanese style. Common area nice and clean bathrooms. Will stay again when in Nara. Thank you guesthouse Naramachi!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location is excellent. Far enough from the urban noise yet close to all we need for the daily convenience. Few minutes by Bus No 1 from JR Nara, when a 24/7 beef bowls is within walking distance. Because I like walking, from Guest House Nara, the beautiful park is also within walking distance when the Culture Center provided a simple lunch, hot coffee and cozy catnap. Not to mention the hospitality of Shunju and Kumiko that makes backpackers feel at home. I will definitely come back to stay on my next visit and share my experience with friends.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a very lovely and traditional guesthouse near the station. It is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. The owners are very lovely and always helpful. They‘ll give you information about all the showplaces around the area. You feel very welcome. In the living room is a place to eat and there is coffee and tea for free. This traditional guesthouse shows you a bit of the good old Japanese style. Very nice!

Pros: All the bathroom Luxury products ( high end products). Stuff are friendly and welcome. They hot spring is pretty good, however, I can't use it since you have to be naked in the hot spring, you can wear any swimming suit. I would love to be in hot springs, but I cannot since it is a public hot spring, so everyone will see each other. Don't worry, Male and female are in a separate room. Got a free tour to walk around the Nara. The tour lady is so nice and friendly. She gave us all the information and took us wherever we would like to see.
Cons: I cannot be in hot spring with swimming suit. I would love to sit in the hot spring yet, I can't experiencing it as I didn't want to be naked in public bath.

Pros: The rooms were great and the staff were soooo friendly. The roof view from the terrace was lovely
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and spacious room with quality toiletries - we were in the triple room with beds and private external bath. Food is excellent and a highly recommended part of the experience. Bonuses from hotel includes welcome tea, deer biscuits and a free photo as memorabilia.
Cons: On a very hot day, the place is a bit far to walk to/from the Kintetsu station. Because of the heat, we did not utilise the private outdoor bath.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were kind and helpful. The room was wonderful, with big tatami mats, a spacious bathroom, big bathtub, fancy toilet, and even a massage chair. I loved the Kaiseki food. The onsen was relaxing and tattoo friendly. They even arranged a free guide for me to tour Nara, and gave me cookies to feed the sacred deer.
Cons: I wish I stayed longer :)

Pros: Great location. Reasonable price.

Cons: The private tub was not very private unless you pulled over a large curtain on the balcony.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean room with all the relevant amenities. The check in process was easy and it is possible to leave your bags in reception whilst ahead of check-in. In a good location, close to the JR station. I'd say it was worth the money.
Cons: Underneath the bed looked like it had never been hoovered which I learned after something of mine rolled under the bed.. Bed not too comfortable, the mattress dipped which meant I kept rolling off the bed.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was extremely friendly. While we were filling in a digital form, the receptionist brought our (heavy) suitcases up the stairs to our room. He even informed us in detail the must see of Nara and restaurants he personally likes. Amazing service. Room was perfect and clean. We had a Japanese style room and we both really loved it. The upper bed is a little hard for me, but the bottom bed was so comfy. Bathroom was clean and new. All those manga at the entrance is amazing
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Good value for money, private room with a private bathroom for that price, is really nice :) The location is quite nice as well, about 15 min walk from the station.
Cons: It's quite old place, with tiny rooms. The staff is not that friendly, but still professional.

Pros: Staff were very nice. Helpful with directions, recommendations and let us stow our bags with them after checking out while we went sightseeing. Location a short 5 min walk from JR Station.

Cons: The breakfast doesnt really suit our taste, but it is good with various choices.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent onsen. Staff were very good. Breakfast included Japanese and international options and was satisfying. The room was small and the large double bed was in a nook which meant climbing over each other but I guess we expected a small room.

Cons: Nothing - the staff were wonderful and welcoming. It was a peaceful and quiet atmosphere. Ryokan was very well located. We were spoiled!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room. Very clean and staff very kind and attentive.
Cons: Nothing
9,6 Excellent
Pros: I loved the dinner and breakfast - both traditional style - delicious and beautifully presented. The dining rooms was stylish and calm, and all the public areas had soft music and a quiet atmosphere. The public baths were great too - I really enjoyed sitting in the outdoor one and admiring the view of the pagoda. Kimono to wear in the hotel was really good too.
Cons: I wished they had provided more towels - just one small bath towel to be used both in the Bathroom in my room and in the public baths seemed a little mean.

6,3 Good
Pros: The location was splendid near the pagode and the parc, not far from the station and close to shopping streets. The room was clean and okay for our Japanese experience of sleeping on a futton. The breakfast was super with 12 variety of littles dishes. The owners were friendly.
Cons: The building's interior (stairs etc.) looked very old. I didn't even try the public bath therefore (I didn't go to see it). A friend found a large insect just before going to sleep :-(
8,3 Excellent
Pros: I like that I can see the Kofuku-ji Temple Five Storey Pagoda from my balcony.
Cons: I wish that they could clean the dust in the room especially on the lantern lamp.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Even though the hotel is very basic and modest, the staff were fabulous and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. The location is perfect! Just at the edge of the park, and our room had a great view of the Pagoda. We were greeted with tea and cookies in our room. When we were out of the room in the afternoon the staff arranged the futons (which were very comfortable). The Japanese breakfast was incredible. Such a variety of different dishes! Delicious miso soup.
Cons: The hotel is modest and the shower room was a bit run down.

Pros: Good location, great service. Place is old but respect the Ryokan type of establishment. Food was good, onsen is clean.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: If you want to experience a proper Japanese style accommodation, then Daibutsukan is a great choice. We were treated like royalty and have only good things to say about the place. The location is perfect - only 8 minute walk from Kintetsu-Nara station (out of which half of the way is shopping street under the roof). The famous Nara park is literally next door. Daibutsukan also has a decent onsen (public hot bath) on premises and abundant breakfast. Certainly a place to spend many nights for a relaxing holiday.

Pros: Large rooms, nice onsen and very friendly staff. They even offer a free shuttle service and you can store your luggage in the city. I highly recommend this place!
Cons: -
8,0 Excellent
Cons: We were Americans and they assumed that we would want to eat out meal at a western style table. We would have preferred a Japanese style table closer to the ground and more jappanese traditional.
5,4 Okay
Pros: Food was terrible. We came to have the prized 10 course dinner. Food was awful. Staff rushed us through our dinner and made it very unrelaxing.
Cons: Not good signs to Get to onsen or lobby.
6,7 Good
Cons: The hotel is very old style.
6,7 Good
Pros: The food and staff, specially front desk HK Lady Ms Li
Cons: no common area like garden, cannot walk around hotel.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We had the private onsen room so obviously it was amazing. We had the cedar wood tub that smelt amazing. The room was comfortable and very clean. It was a very expensive stay for us but I think it was worth it for the private onsen alone! The food, kaseki style, was nice. They kindly accommodated my vegetarian diet.
Cons: One of the staff who served us dinner spoke no English (not a problem) but when we tried to communicate with her in Japanese (just little thank yous and we understand) she kept laughing and us in a mocking way. Not sure if it was just that she found it amusing that we were trying but it felt a little rude
8,3 Excellent
Pros: This was a treat experience as part of our Japanese tour de force. The property was fine, perhaps getting close to a refurb. The staff were excellent in terms of service and guiding us around making any cultural faux pas. The highlights were obviously the first bath experience (a little nerve racking at first but it was quiet so all sorted itself out) and the evening meal. The quality and variety of dishes was extraordinary and the detailed menu (instruction manual for us uninitiated) was excellent. Breakfast was another culinary experience but we would have appreciated another “menu” as we have no idea what we ate..... still here so nothing bad! I wouldn’t say that we are immediate converts to a futon bed, but we slept Ok and could get used to it. We are soft Westerners after all.
Cons: As above.

Pros: It's just a perfect ryokan with great onsen and exellent food. Second time here.
7,0 Good
Pros: It's a great relax away from the city. The room is cosy though it has some history. The view is very nice from the room.
Cons: It's a bit far and you can only reach their via their shuttle bus or by taxi.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The staff was super kind. We were three travelling, and two of us with special requests for the dinner and breakfast. They completely followed it and the food was just as good and we did not get any less than if you would eat everything:) Super clean and beautiful view! 10/10 would recommend
7,9 Good
Pros: Traditional ryokan hotel with an excellent view over Nara and Tōdai-ji
Cons: The booking did not include a meal and the last bus to the hotel was at 18:00. Meals are available in the hotel but are quite expensive and require booking in advance. This was not clear to use when we booked.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The meals were exquisite. Table service by a single staff member was very intimate. I would highly recommend this ryokan. They provide free transportation from the train stations.
Cons: The closed outdoor pool was a bit disconcerting and the rooftop seemed to be in need of updating.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Food was very good, lovely view and very comfortable.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We decided to experience the ryokan for first time on your Japan trip and it was great. We booked a dinner and breakfast option included and it was delicious (and quite big). Some staff speaks English, at least at the reception so you will get some instructions. You have to book a shuttle with a hotel to get there as it's located on the mountain (nice views from the roof) and you get a shuttle back to the station in the morning. You will got a welcoming tea with a traditional sweets, you can wear ukata during the dinner (choose a dinner time in advance), go to the onsen (maybe it is more spa then a real hot spring, but still cool). During our stay there were a few people, so I enojed the onsen alone for some time. But you can't book a private onsen, it is separate for men and women. But we had a private shower and toilet in the room. Room was huge with a nice view as well. Ryokan is an experience itself.
Cons: Everything was great for our first time, but it would be better if staff could explain more then few words about kaiseki meal or tradiitional breakfast. Hotel itself is not new, but quite good.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Heijo is a good experience for a ryokan. Facilites are decent , our Japanese style private room was really large and nice. We were offered a nice welcome tea and snacks. The sitting area has heated stone foot rests for your feet and the view from our room was really nice. Full length glass windows with beautiful view overlooking Nara town and parts of an orchard.
Cons: Location of Heijo is rather far off from anything else, so you really do not stay there for visiting Nara town, just for the ryokan. Both Dinner and Breakfast were served at a cafeteria room, so no in-room dining which rather detracts from the experience.

Cons: The staffs there couldnt really speak English. Too bad for the high-end hotel.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Located in a park.on a hill. Great feeling
Cons: Rooms way below expectations Breakfast not included for a 400€ per night mediocre room Hotel has had it glory days but those are long behind us and hotel needs a serious refurbishing The only positive is the quality of the staff and the level of service which is in line with best in class Japanese experience
10,0 Excellent

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely old hotel with serene ambiance and delightful common areas. We loved the grand old staircases, high ceilings and historical photographs. The staff was extremely helpful even though English was an issue. We rented the hotel bikes, excellent!
Cons: Bathrooms very small and outdated, breakfast very expensive
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Old world charm , very traditional. Rooms in main building recently upgraded but kept the original ambience.
Cons: The experience of a Japanese style hotel with all it’s grandeur, very close to park and temples.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Perfect Ambience, tranquil setting and surprisingly spacious for Japanese standards.
Cons: N/a
5,0 Okay
Pros: It is in a great location and the environment around the hotel is pretty good.
Cons: The hotel is too old and the floor is giving off a bad odor. It is very damp inside of the room and not very comfortable for staying inside. The hotel was aware of it since they put a spray for odor in the closet. Hopi they could take care of the carpet to reduce the smell instead of providing a spray.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: - Location is amazing if you're using the JR Station (glued to the hotel). It's also walking distance to Nara Park and Naramachi, which also gives access to loads of eating options (there are several restaurants at the hotel but I didn't try them). - Breakfast was very good, large all-you-can-eat buffet with both western and Asian options. - Room was a bit bigger than the usual Japanese room. Nice bathroom and bathtub too. - Staff was very attentive. There was a small line for checking in though.
Cons: - There was a big line for breakfast at ~8am, something most westerners won't have planned for. Consider this when reserving the (great, nonetheless) breakfast. - The hotel is huge and the lobby is on the third floor, so you'll be walking quite a bit from your room to the street.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Elegant hotel at an ideal location beside the Nara Station and information centre. Staff was experienced, efficient and so very helpful ... always with a smile. Largest hotel room we got in Japan.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Good location near the station. This is a large hotel with good restaurant facilities though we tended to eat elsewhere. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We arrived a little early but not able to check in then, the staff allowed us to leave our luggage while we found something else to do awaiting check in time.
Cons: WiFi intermittent in room. Large lobby area but limited seating - and the seats there seemed to be always in use by small groups having meetings.
7,9 Good
Pros: Good location, close to station and town. Nice spacious double room; nice bath house on 6thfloor.
Cons: Our single room was small and although non-smoking, smelled of smoke. Window was all misted up permanently, blocking view of outside world. No tea bags but instant tea; brrr.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Very Good Value
Cons: All good

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Desk was useful. Good wifi. Near train station. Walking distance to interesting attractions. Friendly atmosphere in and around hotel. Quiet.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The lighting was soft and nice to the eyes. The bed was hard but surprisingly I slept really good on it and am VERY satisfied with it. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The water pressure was very strong (meaning “good”) and the bath was very comfortable. View from the windows on the 9th floor was nice. Couldn’t hear other neighbors at all. Location is awesome - quiet but right next to JR Nara Station. Bed was big. At first I thought the room felt small but it was more than enough. WiFi works well here.
Cons: There was obvious dust in the corners of the room on the floor and on the top of the painting. There was a half closed hole in the wall behind the bed (I think it’s ventilation) and a huge big came out of it once. Fridge was so weak it’s literally impossible to store anything inside it. Food will go bad in less than a day. Toothpaste didn’t have any flavor which I found weird. Air conditioning was very weak.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Mix breakfast both Japanese and a western
Cons: Very close to railway so a little noisy
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Located close to centre with all sights walking distance. Supermarket close by. Restaurants nearby. Very clean. Complimentary coffee in the afternoon, should be all day.
Cons: Central aircon at times was too hot and stuffy. TV should be located on the wall to give more room on the desk. Also no english TV channels.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The excellent minimalistic approach of accommodations while still ver comfortable and well planned.
Cons: Breakfast was very limited and hardly any food for Western customers.
7,1 Good
Pros: It’s very near to the JR Nara Station so getting to the hotel was easy, provided you know which way to go. On my first day, Google Map led me the long way around and it took me more than 5 minutes to get there. I then decided to just road that was alongside the JR train tracks and it took just a couple of minutes. The room was small but clean and well designed so there is sufficient space to move about and manage the luggage. It is also quiet at night so I can sleep well after a tiring day. I cannot comment much about the facilities since I did not make much use of them but I am aware that there are facilities such as microwave oven and laundry facilities. The hotel also provides instructions in English for foreigners which makes it much easier.
Cons: On my first day, I filled the water “tank” of the humidifier and rested earlier for the night, only to wake up around 5am to find that it needed a refill. That’s kind of inconvenient.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to JR Nara station (which has a large supermarket on the first floor in the adjacent building). Lots of eateries to the east of the station, walking distance.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great location and friendly staff. A very comfortable stay only a short walk from the dear park
Cons: decor? not really an issue though
