9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very relaxing, nice Onsen that is easy to book privately, delicious Japanese food, spacious room. Hotel personnel will pick you up from the bus station (station name is Sawando, which google calls something else incorrectly). You will get a private dining room, and four out of eight total rooms come with a hot bath inside. Keep in mind that even though you have the hot bath, you won't have a shower in the room. You cannot use the hot bath to clean yourself. The only showers are the public ones, and one private that can be reserved. I initially found that to be inconvenient, but it really was not. Relaxation is about letting go of control! The bed is a Japanese futon, on the floor, but comfortable and warm even in the winter. They will put some kind of a hot-water filled feet warmer under the sheets, too.
Cons: Some amount of sake should have been included in the price of the dinner!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic traditional Japanese hospitality and beautiful food in an unusual location. Not for a second did they make us feel different or unwelcome due to our western/foreign background. We were here for 2 nights and was a highlight of our visit to Japan. A special thanks to Yuta Saitou for his patient help and support before and during our stay.
Cons: Very little not to like in this beautiful
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room is beautiful and comfortable. The staff is very helpful. I love to stay here.
Cons: Nothing
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan is 5mins walk from Sawando bus stop, not big but super comfortable. I do like the hot spring and their lovely staffs. It’s a pity that I arrived one week before Kamikochi opened to public this spring. BTW, the starry sky view from the garden was really amazing.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here for just one night. It's our accommodation on the way we travelling from Shirakawago to Fujikawaguchiko. Hence, it's a wonderful stay with a lovely and relaxing environment. It's the ryokan that surouding by snowy mountains and provided supreme retreat. Staffs are very friendly and helpful even they don't speak English. Breakfast and dinner are fantastic. The portions were just right, not too much not too less.
Cons: We didn't expect there is no shower area in the room. Our room include the outdoor onsen, it's nice but the weather was too cold for bathing outside :-) However the private onsen that the ryokan provided was wonderful, we just need to book the time.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service. Very comfortable
Cons: The location close to a big road and parking lot was unappealing but easy to forget in the calm of the interior surroundings
7,1 Good
Pros: In general the hotel is average; location is good for catching the bus at Sawando Bus Terminal for going to Kamikochi, it is less than 5 min walk.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A staff member picked us up and dropped us off at the bus stop which was so nice!

8,8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were terrifically helpful
Cons: Washing and toilet facilities shared
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We had an enjoyable stay. The room was very clean and spacious. The public bath had great water. The guest house may be a bit far to walk to the local attractions, but we took advantage of the free bikes and explored the areas around Matsumoto Castle and Matsumoto Station. The host gave us a great map with recommended sights, restaurants, and cafes.
Cons: Unfortunately that particular day there was no vegan option for breakfast.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely japanese style room, very nice bath, delicious breakfast and adorable hosts. Everything was perfect.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely ryokan run by a friendly couple who go out of their way to help you! Fantastic!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Too many reasons to come back to this place. Amazing hospitality, a wonderful home cooked Japanese breakfast and the well equipped onsen were some of the highlights from our stay there. The free bikes were a lovely way to explore the town - we took a leisurely cycle down the canal and had no trouble finding our way to the Matsumoto art museum, castle and soba restaurant for lunch with our hostess’s directions. Once again we cannot understate the hospitality we received, we truly felt welcome and taken care of while staying at Ryokan Seifuso.
Cons: Nil
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The owners are amazing. Friendly and helpful. We could use the bike for free. They even took us to the train station early in the morning. It was very kind. The Japanese breakfast that they made was excellent. Hot and cold water for the guests. Location is not central but easy access. The room was specious with nice view If you imagine a family ryokan...that’s the best example. Highly recommended
Cons: I’m not a big fan of communal bathroom and toilet. We knew it before we came. So no complaints. But if you have a problem with it. Take it to consideration.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic ryokan and sensational family. We felt very comfortable. We would have stayed many more days! We even had a problem with losing a backpack and they helped us find it. 100% recommended. A lovely experience.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so lovely, welcoming and helpful. Gave us great advice about the area, were friendly and easy to talk with, provided fresh chilled water for all guests (a great touch after a day out cycling on good bikes - free of charge) and gave us a lift back to the station at the end of our stay.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful. Offered a lift to the station. Carried suitcase up to room. Great breakfast. Very good value
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing, very homely ryokan. It was a bit far from the central area but the nice owner gave us a lift to the station. The room size was great and the beds comfortable. I really liked how wonderful the owners were. They were very helpful and we really enjoy our stay here. I love how close it is to the supermarket.
Cons: too far from the central

Pros: Location - within walking distance to Matsumoto Castle, Nawate & Nakamachi Streets. Free shuttle to/from train station at designated times. Fabulous buffet breakfast offering Japanese & Western food. Onsen-like baths for men & women. Fridge in room, kettle, cups, tea. Full range of complimentary bathroom necessities & large, thick, fluffy towels. Communication was prompt & I must commend Alexander Napoli for his professionalism. The check-in & check-out experiences were smooth. Highly recommended.
Cons: Absolutely nothing!
7,5 Good
Cons: The location is good restaurants wise but 15 minutes walk from the station. The hotel is old, you can mainly feel that in the rooms; The beds wasn't comfortable, and there was a smell from the bathroom. The hotel staff were very kind but didn't knew much.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Right in centre of town only 5ims wall to the impressive castle Japanese room style
Cons: As essentially on floor “beds” are rather hard but the originality of sleeping in Japanese style room for first time overcame this minor point !
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location only 2 min walking from Matsumoto station. Very helpful since you'll probably use Matsumoto to do day trips out of the city. Small, new and tastefully designed hotel. Very warm and helpful staff. The room was slightly larger than the Japanese standard, new, clean and fun to stay in. The breakfast was colourful, fresh and had both Japanese and western delicates. After breakfast the hotel restaurant turns into a lovely cafe with great cakes. They put so much thought even to the smallest details and therefore it maid our Matsumoto experience fun, local and with a taste for more. Highly reccomend!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere, the space, the friendly staff. We chose a Japanese-style room which was delightful. The location is good with many dining options nearby. The breakfast buffet was very good.
Cons: We were given a coffee voucher at the cafe for using the "eco" (that is, don't clean my room) option, but that only meant coffee! My husband couldn't use his for tea, which was similarly priced. That felt unnecessarily rule-bound, but we didn't fuss.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: It has lots of character! And friendly staff, and a good Ofuro, good breakfast, nice location.....
Cons: ???
7,1 Good
Pros: Location is nice and staffs were friendly. Have Onsen in the hotel.
Cons: The room is very old and need renovation.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Located in old Matsumoto. Combination of Japanese hospitality and modern spacious room. Bathhouse in hotel. Friendly English speaking staff. Good breakfast
Cons: No sign in English with hotel name outside. Took a moment to find the place
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is really beautiful, with lovely old features such as lots of dark wood. The location is great and is an easy walk to the castle and lots of good restaurants and bars. Staff were helpful.
7,1 Good
Pros: Location - short 10 min walk to the castle and nagamachi shops and restaurants Main building incl reception desk, restaurant, library etc..was well maintained and looked as per the website Breakfast was Japanese style buffet and had lots of choice from pickles, miso soup, salads, rice, omelette etc, fruit, tea, coffee and juices Staff were friendly and helpful and were the highlight of the hotel. From the welcome drink and cookie on arrival to the staff at breakfast and check out, they were a true delight. We also parked our car at the nearby parking station which the staff helped us with.
Cons: Room- we had seen the hotel website and the room (Japanese style, Annex building) we stayed in looked nothing like those on the website. The room was dated, bathroom was unclean with mould in the grout, yellowing silicon surrounding the bathtub/shower, poor ventilation and rust around the tap handles and drain. The bathroom was so small that you couldn’t open the door without hitting the toilet and the shower curtain didn’t keep the water from splashing on the floor so hence a musty smell. Needless to say, we would not recommend this room type at the hotel. We note that the website mentions a renovation in 2014/15, would be worthwhile checking if the room was renovated before you book to avoid disappointment as ours was definitely not.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous hotel and our room had a private 10m sq garden terrace. Very helpful staff. High quality inclusions in room. The restaurant staff were particularly delightful (thank you Yoko!!) and gave us a very private alcove where we enjoyed an amazing degustation feast with two very different meals each night. For what we paid for this high quality experience it was much better value than other offerings around. Breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious. Taxi from station under 1,000 yen.
Cons: WiFi was appalling and annoying - they really need to fix this.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, beautiful lake location and great views of the lake, huge room, nice onsen
Cons: The hotel is a little dated, but the rooms are still nice

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff were so lovely and welcoming. We were greeted with tea and cake on arrival. We had a great check in experience, they explained everything very well and spoke good English. Our room was set up with a couple of tatami seats first and they made our beds during dinner. The private onsen was amazing (you can book it on arrival, it’s free to use for 40 minutes and it’s 500 yen for extra 30 minutes) - the view of Matsumoto downtown at night was stunning. Our traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were such an amazing experience - we were sat in a private dining area and the dinner had three courses with around 15 different little dishes on the table! We will definitely stay here again if we are ever back in Matsumoto. In terms of location, it was easy to get to/from the hotel from/to Matsumoto train station - a direct bus was around 300 yen and taxi was around 2,200 yen.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Use of private onsen for free was a highlight. Otherwise, a clean and comfortable option with great food and evening entertainment.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Elaborate Japanese breakfast... Private hot tub rooms... My limited Japanese language skills were not an issue, but much staff spoke little English
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and cosy environment. Nice & sumptuous dinner & breakfast. There is an evening free cultural performance at the hotel. Onsen was great too!
Cons: Located in an Onsen area, so be prepared for little or no evening activities. But there's a convenient store just around the corner. Need transport to city or tourist attractions. The trade-off for a nice quiet night.
7,9 Good
Pros: The food provided was excellent both breakfast and dinner. The western bed and futons were hard but after asking for three futon beds it was quite comfortable. The staff were very polite and helpful and the hot spring spa was relaxing.
Cons: Hard beds and pillows
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely people. Very calm and traditional
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very helpful in providing bus routes, tickets. The hotel goes out of its way to make meals beautiful and interesting. All facilities are beautiful. There is also occasional musical entertainment.
8,3 Excellent
Cons: Unfortunately, the room next to each mine quarreled loudly. The wall wasn’t soundproof.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very helpful. I mistaken the check in date and they changed the reservation and offered us a big spacious room. The private onsen was amazing. I loved that they offered a yukata and a sumae.
Cons: Too bad there isn't a way to get there except for a taxi.
7,5 Good
Pros: Because Japanese style hotel and the staff is friendly and give us the good service
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The private Onsen are amazing and free of charge. The dinner consisted of several courses with many attention to details. Everything we had was excellent, especially the home made Soba noodles are great (best ones we had in Japan)! The japanese style rooms are quite spacious and very clean. Although the hotel is a bit older, everything is in a very good condition.
Cons: The WiFi connection is bad. Especially in the room.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the space, amenities, and location. Wished I had booked our room for an additional day!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very efficient operational system: Check in with friendly staff, pay with vending machine in advance (avoiding having to wait in line to check out and pay later.) Room is sizable for Japan. Clean and newly decorated. Basic, but has everything you need. Excellent location. Within a 5 min walk to train station. Very close to supermarket. Best point: Has 24/7 diner right at the ground level. Food is not gourmet but not bad (like Denny's). Plus, it's very reasonably priced. (I paid $70 US a night in April.) This hotel is the best hidden gem in Matsumoto. I actually prefer it way more than Buena Vista, which is supposed to be the most "luxurious" business hotel in town.
Cons: No gym, but neither does Buena Vista.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Easy to find from the train station. Includes breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are super helpful and friendly. They offer free bicycle hire which is great for getting around. Clean facilities. An easy walk from the station.
Cons: Everything was great
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, close enough to town yet far enough away to be quiet. Comfortable, spacious and great value for money. Family onsen was a nice touch. Really helpful being given a lift to the station when we departed too.
7,5 Good
Pros: Nice onsen, nice style with tatami. Very clean.
Cons: Location was quite close to the station but not much to do around there.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The Ryokan was clean and staff friendly.
Cons: Ryokans generally seem expensive for what you get. Matsukaze is a good option if you want the Ryokan experience without overpaying.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: 1. Osen was so good and comfortable 2. Room is relatively big and very cosy. 3. Price is good
Cons: 1. There was a humid smell in the room, but it was gone after I turn on the AC 2. The walls are very thin, you can almost hear everything in the hallway.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good place with great service. The room was huge, matresses were very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay a lot and highly recommend this ryokan to travellers!
Cons: It is a little bit far from city center
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The shower is really good. Everything is very clean. The staff is exceptionally nice even though they didn't speak English. Only thing is it's a little bit far from the station. I think about 1km? We had huge luggage but we took the wrong route and went through the over bridge.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great value, Japanese style accommodations in a quiet location with helpful staff. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the train and bus station and a supermarket. There is a 7/11 close by for food or money changing. They kept my extra luggage while I was away hiking and offered their washing machine when I returned, without me asking. The big bath is delightful. The hosts don’t speak English but are quick to use google translate. I would stay again.
6,7 Good
Pros: It was clean, and the staff was helpful when I inquired. The beds were made up very nicely and they were comfortable.
Cons: The facilities could be set up just a bit better to make for a comfortable stay. For example, the shower rooms were clean and spacious, but there was no mirror over the sink where the hair dryer was. It wasn’t very functional. The bath house is only a one-customer-at-a-time operation, so it will be likely occupied. I didn’t get a chance to use it. Based on the price (a little expensive for how basic facilities were), I felt they could have done a few more small things to increase comfort. For example, our hot water pot wasn’t heated when we arrived, and I had to ask for drinking water; it wasn’t provided initially. These are small things of course, but they go a long way for creating a good hospitable atmosphere.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location was very convenient from the JR Matsumoto station. Check-in was easy and our room was ready early. The staff didn't speak much English but did all the effort to communicate with us and help us in any way they could. They even drove us to the station when we checked out! The room was spacious and shared bathrooms were clean. We used the bath twice and it was nice to be able to book it for private use. We were very pleased by our experience and would be happy to come back!
Cons: Nothing

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so nice and friendly!!! I would really recommend and I wish I could come again!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The property has been in the family for four generations and they go out of their way to be accomodating. The management speak some English and they have employed an English speaking staff member to go over any questions you may have in the evening. As we had made plans for the evening we didn’t have the evening meal but had a delicious breakfast in the form of a very generous buffet. The natural spring hot tubs were great and the rooms were traditionally furnished. Fresh flowers about the hotel were a nice touch.
Cons: The location is a bit out of town but this isn’t really an issue as they provide a free shuttle bus to the hotel at 3 and 5pm and return to the station the next morning.(20mins) We used the lockers at the station for the day and saw the castle and town and then headed to the hotel in the afternoon.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The service was really kind all the time. They had really nice details with us. The breakfast was complete and the transfer from the hotel to the station was perfect.

Pros: Wonderful onzen hotel with lovely cuisine. The onzen is the cleanest that I’ve been to and everywhere is spotless. The rooms are very spacious.
Cons: The hotel should specify on booking.com that the free shuttle is only offered once per day from Matsumoto station, only at 2pm. We emailed the hotel of our late arrival the night before and ask for pick up but did not receive a reply. When we call them the morning of our booking to check, we were told that the only free shuttle is at 2pm and the hotel cannot send a car to pick us up (even if we are willing to pay) and the last local bus to somewhere near the hotel leaves at 5pm from the station. At the end we were lucky to find a rental car last minute.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location in the Japanese alps. Incredibly helpful staff park your car, take your bags and really look after you. The food is stunning- each meal is a multi course banquet and each dish is a work of art. Lovely hot spring Onsen. Be aware this a proper Japanese hotel with futon beds and Japanese food. Quiet in the middle of the day as the Japanese are all out. If you want an authentic Japanese hotel this is perfect
Cons: Just be aware it’s Japanese not Western
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Clean an friendly if staff
Cons: Location is too far from town. If you don’t drive you can’t go there by public trasportation
7,5 Good
Pros: The rooms were really clean. The packaged dinner and breakfast were absolutely amazing. They even made some simple steamed food for the little one.
Cons: We didn't ask for a cot as it was not the style of the place but we expected a simple mat (like ours) for the little one to sleep but were told that it would cost an additional adult price for the bed. We ended up co-sleeping which was not ideal.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The onsen, food and souvenirs shop
Cons: The checkin and checkout time since it take some time to get to the hotel while time to stay is short

Pros: Great breakfast, clean, easy parking. Staff was very kind and welcoming. Right at the edge of the mountain seven early morning run was beautiful and excellent

8,8 Excellent
Pros: We have a big room for family of five, we enjoy the hotspring in our room. Wonderful service as we entered our room, the futons are already in laid for us.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Tucked up against the hillside, we found a lovely hike early in the morning. The staff is most solicitous and the rooms quite lovely, combining traditional but with some comfortable modern seats. The Onsen itself is elegant with a simple aesthetic.
Cons: Only on arriving did we learn they were not serving breakfast or dinner. I don't know if this was because it was the offseason. They were very helpful at teaching us the bus route to get into the town to eat. Staff spoke little English but we all managed, and they were most kind.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: One the top floor there is onsen. It's complimentary with your stay. Also the location is excellent. Just two minutes on foot from the train station
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is what I have come to expect from a business hotel, and convenient to station. Although, the ambiance and staff was a touch too business-like as compared to other hotels of this type that I have used. The restaurant attached to the hotel was pricier than the rooms themselves, considering the price class, but price did match quality.

Pros: Everything. Love breakfast and the amenities they provide. The design of the room, even in compact size but has everything we need to keep comfort stay. Very good bed plus the pillows we can choose. I will choose Super Hotel again in my next visit if the city I stay has it. Love Eco Hotel.
Cons: Breakfast finishes too early. And sometimes they ran out of rice before the end time.
5,8 Okay
Pros: We slept in until 8: 10 ,so didn’t have time to make it to breakfast (on a Saturday). Disappointing, as we heard others getting up in other rooms,(bad thing), but blinds were closed, and we still thought it was very early (good thing for dark room).
Cons: For many North Americans/Europeans who are much larger in size than Japanese, it was ‘close quarters’ - very clean and new, but a tight fit , and sound insulation between rooms was negligible.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: nice breakfast included; very near train station although on the quiet/boring side still very close walk; good size room (for cities in japan); friendly and helpful front desk; good quality for the price
Cons: bathroom and other furniture in the room felt a bit old and tired; generally could use a bit of refreshing
