10,0 Excellent
Pros: James, the manager goes out of his way to provide a wonderful stay for his guests.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The in-house restaurant is excellent. The hotel is nothing special but chef James’s cooking was very special and made our stay at the hotel very enjoyable. He’s a Samoan and is very keen in rugby so perhaps a great place to visit during the Rugby World Cup.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect, half way between the train station and the castle. You can walk everywhere. Japanese tatami style bedrooms overlook the river on a very quiet street. Much nicer than all the hotels on the lake that are actually on a highway. There is an excellent restaurant in the hotel that serves delicious japanese breakfast with fresh products from the lake.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything except the food.there was no vegetarian food
Cons: You should cater for vegetarians.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room and the ability to choose your Yukata was a great feature. The restaurant was full, unfortunately, so we had to go out for dinner; staff member Juko went a long way out of her way to help us choose a nearby place then accompanied us to help with the no-English menu! We really appreciated her help.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was exceptional. James is a great host. The river view is great. The room is very spacious.
Cons: Breakfast is impossible for western taste. Bathroom is nit great. The footons are not easy for westerns.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Checkin was smooth. Reception understood and spoke English. Rooms were clean, spacious and modern. The balcony space was nice and my view of lake shinji was mind blowing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and kudos to the nice old lady staff that showed me my room was absolutely polite and detailed in her explanation of all the features and amenities and full marks for her effort to make it abundantly clear to me with her limited english. Made it such a wonderful experience.
Cons: No rotenburo open top bath to make full use of the fantastic lake view. The baths were functional and in the basement instead. I was also unable to reserve the kaiseiki dinner and breakfast on the fly. Pls do it early.
7,1 Good
Pros: Rooms have beautiful views overlooking the Ohashi river (in fact, clam fisherman come right up to the embankment of the hotel pulling up their haul). Staff is very friendly & hotel is laid back. Location can't be beat--lots of great restaurants within 400M. Basement onsen is very nice.
Cons: Hotel shows its age. Price seemed high relative to value.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: A very good ryokan with many facilities and a confort above the average. It faces the jonction of sea and lake. Everything is top qualtity : welcome green tea, onsen, quality courtesy kimono, traditional musician in the hall,...
Cons: No disliking

3,0 Mediocre
Pros: The hotel is quite central not too far from the train station.
Cons: The hotel is expensive and rooms are extremely small, No onsen to relax and no daily cleaning.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a modern business hotel with exceptional facilities, including a television screen in your bath tube and an air purifier in the room. The breakfast was freshly made. There was a possibility to print out business documents, and the staff was very helpful. Some of the staff spoke good English. Convenience stores, restaurants, and bars are nearby. It is likely that I will return here again in the future.
Cons: The windows were facing the building next to the hotel, offering no view, or sunshine of any kind.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: good location. we were kinda misguided by google map and went down to the pedestrian walk which was rather painful dragging a big suitcase for 2 weeks travel. fact is once you exit the station, turn left and first building turn to your left, at the first or second traffic light you walk across street then hotel is to your left hand side, think in its front is a Toyo Hotel. hotel facility is very good, comfy rooms and interior is rather new, bathroom is very good so its the lighting in the whole room. hotel serves free coffee throughout majority of the day, and free soba (noodle) at 9.30pm although we didn't take. have complimentary washing machines on both 2nd and 10 floor, dryers also available with a fee somewhere between JPY200-400. breakfast is also good and staff are very friendly. we really enjoy the stay.
Cons: in general nothing, if have to name one, then the receptionist upon checkin might be new that process was a bit confusing.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Room so clean and so big. In the bathroom have a small tv that you can enjoy when you take a bath
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Besides the morning coffee, the late night noodles and the free laundry tha everyone raves about, I appreciated the sense of play (like the little squeaky ducky in the bathroom
Cons: The zen view out the window

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very close to station and a nice restaurant district. Although the room was small the beds were comfortable, the room was clean and the breakfast was good.
7,1 Good
Pros: Free bike rental - excellent perk; staff were friendly; location just 10 minutes after taking a right from the station. Matsue itself is a lovely place - an unexpected and very pleasant surprise...
Cons: Tiny bathroom - uncomfortable having a shower, especially when the shower curtain inevitably sticks to you (eeeww!); I found at least 2-3 hairs in my room after checking in (I wish people would check these things); I didn't request the room to be made up (green), but was surprised when Housekeeping didn't even make the bed after having been in the room nor did they replenish the 1 tea bag; room window was the tiniest I've ever seen in a hotel room; not enough hangers to hang clothes...
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice and clean. Abundance of linen and towels. WiFi was strong. Across the road from Matsue station and restaurants. We had a corner room with a panoramic window overlooking the river which was fabulous. Walking distance to the Castle.
Cons: Unfortunately we didn't encounter any staff who had a grasp of basic English. That's ok, but just a little hard to communicate. And whilst it comes with the territory in Japan, I don't think I've encountered such a tiny bathroom.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: New hotel is great value of money paid as breakfast is so yummy too..and located next to excel tokyo hotel just walk about5mins from matsue station..and front staff .operation is fast check in and out
Cons: Nothing

8,8 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast can be changed a bit different day by day ...
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The spacious traditional room with a sensational private onsen was beyond expectation.
Cons: Breakfast is too little for an average tourist, let alone a big man. Our personal in-room snacks were thrown away without notice, they were not expired!!
7,5 Good
Pros: The private hotspring was an amazing experience
Cons: There was a slight scent to the room, but it wasn't too offensive
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The property was welcoming and I had a very pleasant stay.
Cons: The property would benefit from some refreshing and more directions and signs provided in English for foreign guests.
7,5 Good
Pros: Good onsen and rotenburo. Traditional Japanese tatami rooms.
Cons: Breakfast was very basic. A bit far from the center of town.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is not what a usual ryokan-style provides which meant it was the perfect size for us as we're not much for giant breakfasts first thing in the morning. Two onigiri rice balls, miso soup, salad in a very nice dining room. Location was quite good depending on where you are transiting from. It's a good 15-20 minute taxi from JR Matsue Station but only a few minutes walk from Matsue-Shinjiko-Onsen Station on the Ichibata Electric Railway line (if you're coming from Izumo Taisha that might be preferable). Right in front of Lake Shinji which is beautiful and next door to a 7-11 if you need to pick up anything. We booked a room with a private outdoor bath which was excellent.
Cons: If you're expecting a ryokan (like we we were at first) it might not totally fit that expectation. In terms of lunch/dinner options you'll need to head towards Matsue City centre as there is very little in the neighbourhood.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice onsen, english is not spoken but everybody will do its best to help you and answer your demands! Nice baths, nice room, beautiful view on the lake, I really enjoyed!
Cons: Dinner is not offered

Cons: Room and bed a bit small

Pros: Cheap!
Cons: A little run-down but clean and cheap.
7,0 Good
Pros: It had a great breakfast selection. It also is in a great location and makes getting around easy. We could walk to a lot of place. The onsen was also a nice touch.
Cons: The room was smaller than I expected. The bathroom was even smaller. It's not very tall people friendly. The heating in the room was also a bit strange.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Decent-sized bed, pretty location on the waterfront (albeit far from the station), and a nice hot spring! The reception even let me leave my luggage there before check-in time.
Cons: The room was a bit dated and the bed somewhat stiff.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: 1. Free hot spring in 3rd floor. Not sure where the hot spring comes from but anyway, a very good facility. 2. Though communication is a little problem but the staffs there are quite nice. 3. The breakfast is in the 9th floor where you can see the lake and bridge. Nice view! 4. A lot japanese bar nearby but I never try. 5. Only ten minutes to the Matsue castle.
Cons: 1. The breakfast includes some local food and the staffs are nice but overall speaking, the food is fair. 2. Actually need to walk 18 minutes to Shimane Prefectural Convention Center. 3. A little far away from Matsue station, around 21 min walking.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Free shuttle to JR station was great Insensitive good Breakfast amazing
Cons: Rooms are a little tired

8,8 Excellent
Pros: The people at reception were exceptionally friendly! I was worried, because my Japanese is not very good, but they spoke excellent English and were very accommodating. Breakfast was also good.
Cons: Unfortunately, the parking lot at the hotel itself was full. The kind staff invited me to go park my car at a paid parking lot about 5 minutes' walk away, and in the mornings they would give me a ticket that meant I didn't have to pay for the overnight parking. It was mildly inconvenient when it was raining heavily, but not a big problem.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great all around. Front desk couldn't be more helpful especially one slim, older gentleman.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: excellent breakfast
Cons: name of hotel in English outside building so can locate easily from station.
