8,8 Excellent
Pros: the room is spacious and the view of the garden is good.
7,5 Good
Pros: The location is good and the onsen is quite nice.
Cons: The dinner was not up to our expectations. The food was not too fresh. Breakfast was in a big hall and it was very crowded. Food quality was not to our expectations too.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Unique, round-house design of public bath. Private bath available to all on first- come basis. Idyllic, garden-like retreat only minutes from train station. Typical ryokan-style room—tatami floors, shoes off, alcove with table & chairs for dining, futons on floor, low table with chair backs for sitting in the main room. Staff was incredibly solicitous & helpful. I am mobility-impaired & found the typical indoor slippers dangerously ill-fitting & too short, creating a fall risk. Several staff members rushed around to find me slippers that were long enough and snug-fitting. I was really grateful since my only alternative was barefoot on a knobby textured stone floor that HURT. Dinner was a several course Japanese meal served to us in our Yukata (cotton kimonos). Pleasant atmosphere, good food, kind staff, and walking distance to the station.
Cons: No complaints at all. Reasonably priced & comfortable.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and picture perfect staff are very helpful and friendly
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel and all of the staff are amazing and very accommodating. Even with the language barrier and my lack of Japanese the staff were amazing and more helpful than I could imagine. The hotel is very beautiful, the garden is breathtaking and I would not want to stay anywhere else but Gyokusen. I would recommend this hotel to everyone coming to Matsue.
Cons: I loved everything and would not change one thing about this hotel. It was an amazing experience.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: - spacious and clean room - huge onsen - good buffet breakfast - friendly and helpful staff - free parking
Cons: - a little inconvenient to reach without a car
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel interior seems to be a bit outdated, but it is very well maintained. There is a very large Japanese zen garden at the back of the hotel, and some small river inside the hotel. The room was large, it fitted up to 4 adults very well with extra space for our luggage. The public baths were great, very large sized with 2 themes (wood & rock), and they were swapped everyday between the female & male, so we can experience both themes. Breakfast was plenty and delicious, the staff were very polite and helpful, location was excellent just on the riverbanks, where you can enjoy the Sakura Trees during the right times.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very large and beautifully maintained, especially the huge Japanese garden that guests may walk through. There were a variety of baths to enjoy and the rooms were spacious and clean. The shuttle bus service from the station was very convenient. The food was excellent. There was an evening performance in the lounge area of local folk songs and dances, too, Wonderful experience.
Cons: Everything was great!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The spa was great, we enjoyed it a lot. The Japanese-style room was very cosy and we slept really well. The breakfast was generous and had a lavish variety of dishes.
Cons: There were no normal convenience stores close to the hotel. It was also a bit difficult to find a place to have dinner if you're not eating in the hotel. The staff do not really speak English but are very helpful and nice.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a Japanese style room with a view of the gardens. Futons are more comfortable than I had imagined. The multi-course Japanese dinner was the best meal of our two week vacation. A relaxing soak in the spa topped off my day.
Ohashikan - Matsue - Pool
2
8,3 Excellent (171 reviews)
R2 660+
Overview Reviews
At Ohashikan, the wonderful view from guests' rooms of Lake Shinji and the Ohashi river in the mornings and evenings is simply exceptional. Located in the heart of Matsue, it is also in the perfect location for both business and sightseeing. Dinner and breakfast at the inn receive glowing praise, and the staff entertain guests with wholehearted hospitality.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: James, the manager goes out of his way to provide a wonderful stay for his guests.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The in-house restaurant is excellent. The hotel is nothing special but chef James’s cooking was very special and made our stay at the hotel very enjoyable. He’s a Samoan and is very keen in rugby so perhaps a great place to visit during the Rugby World Cup.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect, half way between the train station and the castle. You can walk everywhere. Japanese tatami style bedrooms overlook the river on a very quiet street. Much nicer than all the hotels on the lake that are actually on a highway. There is an excellent restaurant in the hotel that serves delicious japanese breakfast with fresh products from the lake.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything except the food.there was no vegetarian food
Cons: You should cater for vegetarians.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room and the ability to choose your Yukata was a great feature. The restaurant was full, unfortunately, so we had to go out for dinner; staff member Juko went a long way out of her way to help us choose a nearby place then accompanied us to help with the no-English menu! We really appreciated her help.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was exceptional. James is a great host. The river view is great. The room is very spacious.
Cons: Breakfast is impossible for western taste. Bathroom is nit great. The footons are not easy for westerns.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is a Ryokan and in excellent location to enjoy the historic part of Matsue - just a 10 minute walk to the castle etc. Staff were wonderful with service and help the best I have experienced. I will be returning to Matsue and certainly using Ohashikan again
Cons: Nothing
7,1 Good
Pros: Rooms have beautiful views overlooking the Ohashi river (in fact, clam fisherman come right up to the embankment of the hotel pulling up their haul). Staff is very friendly & hotel is laid back. Location can't be beat--lots of great restaurants within 400M. Basement onsen is very nice.
Cons: Hotel shows its age. Price seemed high relative to value.

Matsue Excel Hotel Tokyu - Matsue - Building

8,1 Excellent (1 037 reviews)
R2 152+
Overview Reviews

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very new Spacious Nicely contemporarily decorated Staff was helpful, welcoming Restaurant was excellent
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Too small room size, no room bar, coffee bag
8,8 Excellent
Pros: I had a twin room for one person. It was large enough for one person. The room was clean. I recently stayed at a similar level hotel in Tokyo, and that Tokyo room had nicks and stains on the walls. The walls of Matsue Excel Tokyu were reassuringly clean and attractive. Nice linens. A view from the window. A small alarm clock that I could pick up and put beside my bed, i.e., not an alarm clock that was built into a bedside unit.
Cons: There was no bureau, only a place to hang clothes, with four hangers. There was a rack on which you could open a small suitcase. If there were two people staying for a few days, it would be difficult. (This is typical of rooms at this level of hotel, but still it's a minus.) The carpet looked rather worn. The brown color of the carpet was not particularly attractive. At 2000 yen, the breakfast seemed too expensive, so I did not buy the breakfast.
6,3 Good
Pros: Close to the station.
Cons: English language of the staff is below level. The staff is not very friendly!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very good location, close to the JR station and where I have to process my business job. Front desk is very friendly!
7,1 Good
Pros: Convenient. Close to the station. Easy to come/go to the airport
Cons: A little old fashioned
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Overall, The best hotel for the money in Japan so far due to the special non-refundable special rate. Even paying a little more for the regular rate would have not changed my rating for the hotel, it is a very fine hotel.
Cons: Nothging
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room, double bed, very good bathroom, great location

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The shower facilities are excellent for such a cheap place to stay.
Cons: Needing to remove all personal items from the capsule and put them in the locker each day is a little frustrating. I don't feel as though the capsule needs to be cleaned each day.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place! Loved every minute I was there. This was my first time at a proper capsule hotel and it was the best experience ever. The women's only floor is very stylish and just very pretty. Everything is very well organized and most of the staff speak English well. The free bicycle hire is just another bonus. It makes it so easy and fun to get around town. The location right by the JR station is perfect. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to try the capsule experience :)
Cons: Nothing, all was just great.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: A few points: The staff is extremely polite and friendly. The variety of breakfast food was surprisingly large for a budget hotel, and there was plenty of it. Free wi-fi! It’s a minute’s walk from the train station, bus terminal, tourist info center, and numerous shops and restaurants.
Cons: The room was tiny, but that was to be expected. No real complaints.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to matsue station Provide everything that you need including pyjamas
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location was pretty convenient, 2min from the train station. The capsule was brand new, and you could find anything you could need in the bathroom (razors, combs, earplugs...). The breakfast was really good too. I had to change my plans and leave one day earlier than expected, and they were nice enough to refund me the money for the last night.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: We stayed in the room with private bath. That was nice.
Cons: Common baths too small. Property too old. No dinner. Breakfast too basic. Overall too expensive for what it is.
7,9 Good
Pros: The room was spacious and really lovely!
Cons: We did not mind as we speak a bit Japanese, but staff can't speak any English.
10,0 Excellent
Cons: No elevator, it may have problem if you stay in 3rd with big luggage.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was simple but delicious. The location was good and I had a room with lake view.
Cons: The staff didn't speak much English. Being a traditional ryokan, there's no lift and I had to lug my bulky suitcase up the stairs to my room. My 1/F room overlooks the lake but there's also a main road right outside so the speeding vehicles could be heard very clearly. On my last night there, there were also girls parking their bikes just beneath my window and sitting there and chatting at 11 pm. That was rather annoying as I could hear them clearly in the quiet of the night.
8,8 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast can be changed a bit different day by day ...
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location across from Lake Shinji so I could watch folks fishing and seabirds from nice window. Good wifi. Little English spoken here but warm reception and friendly hosts. I couldn't eat the breakfast as very Japanese style but that was ok as nice mini-fridge, coffee maker etc. I also ate one of the best 5 course meals of my life at nearby Hara near Mitsue Onsen station (convenient for day trip to Izumo for sightseeing) but reservations are a must. Rent a bike from Giant at Mitsue Onsen station, soak in the footbath and see the cherry blossoms at Mitsue Castle and around. Lots to do in this charming city. World-class Adachi Gardens and museum less than an hour away by transit.
Cons: Don't want to whine too much about the breakfast but don't sign up for it unless you are really happy with traditional Japanese breakfast. Also, the onsen temperature was not hot enough for my tastes.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Well balanced service, cleanliness, location, etc.
Cons: Breakfast was a bit too minimalist and lacked preparation with care.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Large room with a large bathroom. Well located in Shinjiko-Onsen. The hotel had free parking.
Cons: The shower had almost no water pressure which made it hard to wash before using the private Onsen.
7,5 Good
Pros: Good onsen and rotenburo. Traditional Japanese tatami rooms.
Cons: Breakfast was very basic. A bit far from the center of town.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Excellent staff. Wonderful onsen. Superb location!!!
Cons: We did not realize there was no shower or bathtub in our room until we arrived.

7,1 Good
Pros: Nice staff Convenient location and parking
Cons: Room comfort is very dependent on floor. We had a first night in smoking room with old fashioned furniture. Second night on non smoking floor was in a much more nicely decorated room
6,7 Good
Pros: - great location near to sightseeing area; - room with lake view; - helpful staff; - good buffet breakfast
Cons: - hard to communicate in English; - too basic room facilities; - degree of cleanliness to be improved; - hotel need to be renewal in general.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We booked a Japanese style room catering 3 people. It’s bigger than what we expected. It was clean and tidy, with a view of the lake. There was a convenience store on the ground floor of the main building. You could buy some food and the staff would heat it up for you. Outside it was an area with tables and chairs where you could enjoy the food. The hot bath in the annex building was good.
Cons: The hairdryer was not strong enough and it took a lot of time to dry up our hair after the hot bath.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Location and views.
Cons: Very small bathroom, too small. No affordable restaurant near bye.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: It was convenient because I needed to be near the castle. Short walk to where I needed to go.
Cons: The room is smaller than what I’m used to, but it’s really not that big of a deal.
7,1 Good
Pros: the location, the view from my room, the friendly staff
Cons: a big bug in the room
7,1 Good
Pros: The view from the hotel's upper floors was very nice, especially the side facing Lake Shinji. The onsen facility is spacious and well-maintained. CVS downstairs.
Cons: Wifi only at the lobby with disappointed weak connection. Location-wise, it's a bit off the central district, nothing much nearby. You have to walk 400-500 meters to the closest decent restaurant area. However, it's very dark and quiet at night. The hotel provides shuttle service to the train station but up to 9:00 AM only when you can check out until 10:00 AM. During holidays, the surcharge might double the normal price.

Pros: The people at reception were exceptionally friendly! I was worried, because my Japanese is not very good, but they spoke excellent English and were very accommodating. Breakfast was also good.
Cons: Unfortunately, the parking lot at the hotel itself was full. The kind staff invited me to go park my car at a paid parking lot about 5 minutes' walk away, and in the mornings they would give me a ticket that meant I didn't have to pay for the overnight parking. It was mildly inconvenient when it was raining heavily, but not a big problem.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great all around. Front desk couldn't be more helpful especially one slim, older gentleman.
7,9 Good
Cons: Parking space is so narrow
