The location is 15 minutes walk from the train location
A little bit old, wall paper is peeling off with mold.
Simple ryokan to stay in for family
Location from the main station
This was my first Ryokan experience. I’ll never forget it and for all the right reasons. The accommodations are very basic but that is the premise of this type of hotel. Friendly front desk check in. A Kimono is handed out and explanation of the Onsen bath is given. The room was small but comfortable and functional. It had a small fridge and small TV. Slippers are also provided. The cool thing too was the hotel provides the usage of a smartphone to take with you when touring Kyoto. Good for back up and it’s free. Most apps were downloaded including google maps and more. The shared bathroom area was clean and included the ‘special’ Japanese toilets. The highlight for me was the Onsen. Wasn’t too sure about that part. The washing area was well stocked, organized and very clean. The bath was so nice and warm and healing after a long day of touring. It’s a must try. Make sure you read up on etiquette related to bathing in an Onsen. The rules are important to follow. Location of the hotel is good too. 10 min walk from Kyoto train station. Local bus stop is right across the street. #28 takes you directly to Arashyama Bamboo Forest. About a 40 mins ride. Bus #207 gets you to Nishiki Market in about 20 mins. Heads up, when boarding the bus, enter through the back door. Then pay and exit through the front. Tons of cool little restaurants all around this property. And the price per night was actually cheaper than a capsule hotel. All in all a great couple of nights at Azumaya Ryokan.
Fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper bring ear plugs. Voices do carry.

The staff is really nice and very helpful. Nice and comfortable Japanese style room. They offer tea and coffee in the lobby where you can hangout in your kimono after enjoying a delightful Japanese bath. They kept my bags at no charge for the entire day after my checkout
Nothing to dislike, they are great
