Hotel Barth - Kaiserslautern - Building
1
8,9 Excellent (586 reviews)
R1 318+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Barth in Kaiserslautern, you'll be a 3-minute walk from Hohenecken Castle and 10 minutes by foot from Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Secure parking staff and location
Cons: Small bathroom/shower no AC.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Barth was perfect for my needs. The breakfast was good and they had on site parking (for a fee). The hotel also had a small bar with some good options. The junior suite, which I stayed in, was good for long term stay. It had a microwave and refrigerator along with dishes and silverware. The shower was very large and the bathroom not at all cramped. Location was great with easy access to many shops and restaurants in the middle of downtown Kaiserslautern, to include the K in Lautern mall. My room also included an Ethernet port along with wireless. Wired Ethernet very fast and more secure.
Cons: Because of its location, driving in the immediate vicinity of the hotel could be difficult. The room I had was not air conditioned - not usually a problem in Germany, but I was there in June and there was a heatwave going on. Some of the rooms are air-conditioned, but the junior suite I was in was not. I do not believe the hotel had laundry service either, so if you plan on a long stay, plan accordingly for laundry arrangements.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Always clean, pleasant staff, calm. My escape away from home to clear my head. My happy place.
Cons: No air con.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice small hotel, modern and comfortable.
Cons: Parking in street needed payment on meter.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It is centrally located about 1 min from the K Lautern. Friendly staff and nice clean rooms
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Almost like a home away from home during my weekend trips and weekend escapes
Cons: Proposing to have their hotel sign lit up outside. Trying to find my way back to the hotel in the night, it’s difficult to see from far where the hotel entrance is because the sign has no light.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I come to KL frequently for work and this was the first time I stayed here. I found the room great and the staff very helpful and friendly.
Cons: Parking is very limited so if you have a car it could be challenging to find parking.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was quiet, the breakfast was lovely and diverse with very thoughtful touches, and the parking lot was secure. I appreciated the staff being so friendly and welcoming. The housekeeping staff did a great job of cleaning the room and stocking with clean towels each day.
Cons: The doors in the room need tweaking, as they were constantly falling closed, particularly in the bathroom as I was getting ready. I didn't like having a door resting on my backside. Also, a placard that gives the wifi information placed in the room would have been nice so I didn't have to bother the front desk.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The staff was amazing!
Cons: Nothing.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, English speaking was a great help, the son even reprogrammed the GPS in my car to work for English, awesome people.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely people
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Very clean. Strong Wifi. Friendly staff.
Cons: Wished I had asked for a fan before I came.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very quiet and is cosy. In each room there is a green apple for the guest and I find the attention delicate (I love apples). The breakfast is nice with bread, coffee cheese and ham. The personnel is friendly. The beds are also very good.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel was convenient and centralized, stores and markets are all within walking distances.
Cons: I expected to see the front desk reception when I first checked in the hotel on Sunday but only spoke with the owner through a doorbell camera. I did not see or interact with the owners until I checked out 7 days later. The hallway was quiet, automatic lights and hardly saw anyone during my stay. The room and garage key was already located inside my room. There’s no elevator, no microwave, and no iron or board. They had a TV, small refrigerator with snacks/drinks and my room overlook a small street portion of the area. I did not eat breakfast so I am unable to provide feedback on that portion. The parking garage with very tight and unique on how it operated. You have to turn the key to open the wooden garage, space available to park between 5-6 vehicles depending on type/size. The turning radius was tight and small so you have to be cautious while driving into the alley and parking. The mall is a minute walking distance, the kebab and Asia restaurant across the streets and you have bars, salons, moms and pop stores all around. Depending on your room location, you are able to hear people talking loudly or drinking early in the morning. It’s a 3 star hotel so you pay for the location but not so much for the customer service care or amenities.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so helpful and friendly. My room was perfect. Everything was simple and worked perfectly
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The owners are wonderful. They know their guests by name. It feels like staying with family and friends whenever I stay here. The hotel is very clean and well decorated. The breakfast is wonderful. It is an easy walk to local shopping.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Close proximity to shopping, restaurants and the freeway
Cons: Pillows are super flimsy. There is little to no support. I think that’s common in German hotels though. I usually bring my own neck pillow to remedy this.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owners.
Cons: Rooms a bit small.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly service. Very clean and safe. Close walking proximity to shopping and restaurants.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a wonderful local small hotel, clean rooms large by European standards, Sky cable with hundreds of channels, great service, and most of all an incredibly good restaurant. I ate there every night during the week.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: This was my second visit to this property and it delivered a solid performance for the second time! The location and on-site parking suit my needs very well, and whilst the breakfast is not a "big hotel" style full buffet of hot and cold options, the variety of choices offered are fresh and plenty more then enough. The hotel staff successfully do their best to attend to one's needs - what more could one ask?
Cons: Nothing!
7,9 Good
Pros: Good breakfast friendly staff.
Cons: Quite small room, also the street was very loud as well as the other guests walking the halls. A bus stop right by the window did not help. Also it was HOT.

Pros: The location was easy to find. The breakfast was outstanding! Our room was very clean and comfortable. We loved the balcony!
Cons: Might be a bit expensive compared to other places, but it was great for us!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here before and really enjoyed the family room. We were traveling only with our little one this time and they had the baby's bed already set up in our Standard Double Room. The front desk acknowledged that we were previous guests and needed no additional information for check in. A bellman assisted us with our luggage. The restaurant accommodated our late arrival and provided dessert and a bottle of wine although they had just closed. As usual, the coffee was really good the next morning. Customer service never disappoints, which is why this is where we stay when in Kaiserslautern.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The food is wonderful. The hotel has been renovated and looks great. The staff members are very helpful.

Cons: Not your choice if you want spa, gym, etc. in hotel
7,5 Good
Pros: Great location and very friendly staff
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Coffee!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel Altstadt is a little jewel at the upper end of the historic district in Kaiserslautern. It is a traditional gasthaus that has been modernized in to a very nice, comfortable facility in the heart of the town. It is close to sightseeing, convenient to great hiking trails and walking distance to the bahnhof. The staff was warm and friendly. The facility was kept in a high state of cleanliness.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful customer service! After I accidentally left a sweater in the room, Altstadt Hotel contacted me immediately.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: A comfortable and relaxing stay. It's what I pictured for a German inn and the location in the village with the church above made it postcard perfect. Great access to the city by car. I really enjoyed that the restaurant was so good that I didn't want or need to go elsewhere for a wonderful meal.
Cons: This is my common complaint on almost all hotels: I wake quite early and would really appreciate a way to have a cup of coffee in the morning. I bring my own coffee and presspot but need a way to heat water. A hotpot or microwave in the room would be wonderful.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good range of breakfast choices, out-of-town location of the property is still close enough for easy access to KSL, and as I tend to travel in a high vehicle, the ample availability of roadside parking in the immediate vicinity was a definite plus. Staff very friendly and helpful, I can heartily recommend the "comfort food" Pfälzer Leibgericht!
Cons: All good!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Always good food.
10,0 Excellent

Pros: Anytime I am in the Kaiserslautern area, this is my GO TO hotel. I have been staying here for vacation and work for at least 15 years and the service and whole experience has always been TOP. The staff is very very friendly and the breakfast is the best German breakfast I have ever seen. You will not be disappointed! Don't forget to try the restaurant, it is amazing too.
Cons: Honestly, nothing
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful staff, restaurant and garden.
Cons: We were put in a smoking room that was bad news. We powered through with wide open windows and Febreeze.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, good food and great staff.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice room, awesome breakfast, the friendliest staff, beautiful location. What more can you ask for?
6,7 Good
Pros: Location and friendly but very hurried staff. Proprietor super friendly. Beds comfortable. Missing linnen promptly provided. Parking nearby.
Cons: The room may have been an aberration. For the price I would expect a cleaner and more modern (or quainter) room. The spare bed sounded like it could fall apart at any moment, and one needed slippers to not get dirty feet.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was great!

Pros: The stuff ( Magdalena , and 2 young blonde girls ) were amazing!! I would stay there again jus because of these nice ladies ! We had a great Conversation with other guests and it was a great nite !!
Cons: Bed was a bit uncomfortable
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The prison feeling is still there ;-) The thick walls keep the burning and hot sun outside, so even without AC and more than 30 celsius it was very comfortable inside. It was an average continental breakfast with everything you need. The staff was very friendly. There is plenty of space for parking and the city center is just minutes of walking away.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very unique location. It's not often that you get to stay in a prison cell -- though, I am sure it was a bit more comfortable that what the prisoners had. I only met one member of the staff and he was extremely friendly. The room was clean to a T. The breakfast was well provisioned.
Cons: Based on that I selected that I was traveling for work, I was under the impression that I would have internet capabilities in my room, but unfortunately that was not the case. In the cell rooms, there is no separation between the bathroom and sleeping area. I will not divulge the results, but warn you, stay away from TexMex when you're staying at this hotel.

Pros: Irish was amazing, professional, and courteous!! She helped make my stay an amazing experience!! The rooms are beautiful and clean. And the location is perfect for a night on the town! And don't get me started on the sauna and relaxation area! 5 stars!!
Cons: N/A
7,1 Good
Pros: The suite is spacious and tastefully decorated. We really enjoyed the large bed, very large rain shower and bathtub (with pretty cool lighting...if you can get it to turn on/off). And located in the heart of the Kaiserslautern, it is a short walk to Pfalz Theater and dozens of restaurants, bars, etc.
Cons: When we arrived, we were a little concerned that the young crowd (many military) in the lobby bar would be loud into the evening. Luckily the room was extremely quite! However at 2 am, someone pulled a fire alarm and we had to get up, get dressed, walk down the stairs (from the top floor) and stand outside for over an hour with all the other guests (many very drunk and obnoxious). Not the hotel's fault...we understand that. However, we couldn't get back to sleep for several hours and when we did, we only slept for a few hours before we had to get up to check out. In an attempt to be happy with our stay I proposed to the desk that we pay a reasonable price for another night (I offered 100€) so that we could get some rest. The clerk contacted her supervisor and told us we could get a 20€ discount (off of 169€/night) or stay until 3pm. We countered with accepting the less than satisfying discount, if they comped us breakfast the following morning. She flatly refused. Honestly, the fire drill wasn't the hotel's fault (although when you attract and cater to a rowdy crowd...), but we didn't sleep well at all and left with an overall unsatisfied experience. And honestly, I doubt they will sell all their suites tonight, so they lost income AND the chance of having satisfied a customer. Too bad...we were very disappointed that they were not even willing to work a solution to not only benefit the customer, but also the housekeeping staff to not have to clean the room, guarantee of another night in the hotel for revenue, and for such a nice hotel-the management should have done more!
7,9 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good only had it once during our stay. Some American food was a plus.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location was amazing. The outside dinning was nice and the bar area had a great feel. Underground parking was easy to leave.
Cons: Th cost of parking over night was expensive. No face towels in hotel. The hotel has a lot of American visitors and we typically like face towels to bathe ourselves. If you are going for luxury add a onetime use deoderant with soaps and lotions.

Cons: The pillows were bad, the lights were not bright enough, one light bulb was not working. When we arrived there was nobody on the reception with no contact beforehand - just a note with a number on the door. Overall the whole organisation and communication was unprofessional. For a night it's not too bad, but for the price I found it to be not good enough.

Pros: Exceeded expectations - room very clean, breakfast good. Would be happy to stay here again
Cons: Only small criticism was no air con.

Pros: The room was clean and large enough for my family of three. The parking was just around the corner and inexpensive. The location was great, not far from the shopping area and city center. Breakfast was pretty good too.
Cons: While the room was clean the stairs and hallway have seen better days. It could use some carpet or tiles.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location was good next to K-Town High school for the track event.
Cons: The price for breakfast was too much for what was offered. Suggest expanding the options for include in the cost of the room.

Pros: Nice size rooms , refurbished and clean
Cons: The beds have to be some of the most uncomfortable ever, if you have a double bed booked you dont expect 2 single mattress which are so springy you end up sliding in the middle , double mattress PLEASE!!!!
6,7 Good
Pros: View, Good Price, Good breakfast
Cons: Shower too narrow, no table lamp at bed, all the night the church bell has ringed all quarter hour and one bing per hour for the full time (nearly no silence to sleep).
8,3 Excellent
Pros: I got my everything I expected. Clean and efficient. No staff was present when I showed up at 8pm but I knew this would be the case from previous reviews. Located in a quaint little village or Morthausen. 7 minutes away from the Europcar location to turn in my rental. Highly recommend as a place to stay if you are on a low budget. I recommend and will stay again!

Pros: Location
6,3 Good
Pros: Coffee was good
Cons: Tiny room (my fault, I should have researched the pics better) Staff double charged me for the room because they didn’t know how to operate the credit card reader which resulted in me having to return in the afternoon (15 min, one way drive) to get a refund on the over-charge.

Pros: Convenient to where I needed to be.
Cons: The wifi internet is awful in this hotel. It needs upgraded, the staff knows that, and it is impossible to work in the room.
8,8 Excellent
Cons: The hotel was very clean however the rooms were extremely hot
6,7 Good
Pros: yyLocation was great and bartenders were awesome yÿ
Cons: Staff upon checking in put us on the first floor were the ac was out. We ask immediately for someone to turn on the ac and was told there was no ac. We then had to ask for fans. We walked to the store to get water at a better price and started talking with the cashier and was told that she had ac when she stayed there 2 weeks ago. We went straight to the front to as if there was a room with ac. We were told not on the first floor. We asked if any were on another floor. They seem not to want to answer. Then finally admitted to rooms with ac were on the third floor..We asked to be moved and they did so only after letting them know my friend asthma.

Pros: The breakfast was pretty good and they had a nice game room set up.
Cons: Towels were tiny, there wasn’t even a fan in the room (too hot), vending machine took money and no mini fridge in the room.

Pros: Nothing really
Cons: Deposit
5,4 Okay
Cons: Not secure. Anyone could walk through the front door, push the elevator button and go to any room they wanted. No air conditioning. However, when we inquired, they gave us a floor fan. It was over 90 degrees on all the days we were there. No ice. Had to ask the bar attendant for glasses of ice so we could carry cold water bottles with us during our sightseeing. The bathtub/shower is narrow and deep (over my knee cap). It is very difficult to get out without falling. I asked for a wash cloth on the first day. The hotel staff said they would bring one. I didn't get one. I asked the second day (new staff) they said OK. On the third day I still did not have a wash cloth (although the information book in my room said they were available on request) and the staff told me they don't have any. My room wasn't cleaned on the 2nd day. I called the hotel staff and they sent someone to clean it. The location is outside of the main town. There is a city bus across the street that can take you to town and back. However, when we asked the staff on our first day where we could go to get food/snacks/drinks they told us to walk down the hill and turn left. They indicated that this was close. It was not. It was 1 mile away. They should've given us the bus schedule and told us that the bus across the street could take us to town and back. Some of the staff don't speak English, so it was difficult to communicate with them. My sister had a single room/twin bed. The TV was mounted on the wall, where her bed was against, near her feet. She could not watch TV while in bed, only if she sat in the desk chair. (Not comfortable).
7,5 Good
Pros: The location is good and facility is clean.
Cons: The rooms are small and no place for extra bed. No AC in the rooms The staff at the reception and restaurant are trainee and do not have enough experience. Breakfast is average..
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Well the hotel seems to be a place for the Air Force to lodge airmen there. Problem is since they are young kids they are up to 2 am drinking. They are not rowdy but voices carry at night with no noise.
