I was charged over $100.00 to use the turnpike. There should be another option other than just charging for unlimited use. I only drove on it from Ohio border to Pitts airport. Might as well just got an Uber or cab!Reviewed Apr 1 2024

Tom at pickup sounded like a corporate robot rather than a sentient being while dealing with my pickup at which there were no cars that I reserved available. Thankfully the woman in the hut in the garage was more human and was able to do an easy switch (after I saw that there was in fact a car I could have in the garage). Either way I will be using Enterprise in the future—I never should have tried another company.Reviewed Nov 26 2023

Absolutely awful. They Stranded me at the airport at 11:30 at night and said tough luck figure it out yourself. Told me to wait until morning when they would have more keys, which they still didn't after I slept on the floor of the Airport terminal. I'll be looking for a refund.Reviewed Sep 26 2023

Pros:YesCons:THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME EVER USING DOLLAR RENTAL. For the compact car, I thought the price was way to high. Also, I reserved and paid for the car with a major credit card online, when I got to the counter I was informed that there was a $200 hold fee. I did not have enough credit on my major card I was told to bring at pick up so I had to use my visa debit card and there was a $500 hold. JUST RIDICULOS!!!Reviewed May 3 2021

Pros:The staff was very friendly, informative, and efficient.Cons:I think the additional costs simply because the rental is a one way and different drop off is very poor in customer focus. The rate on Kayak was approximately $40.00 a day plus fees/taxes, and when it was selected as a one way with different drop off, the rate shot up outrageously - simply because it was a one way. I do not think that is a very positive business regulation in terms of treating the customer well. Had I been driving the exact same number of days, and covering the exact same miles during my rental, simply because I was returning it at a different location, the made my rental go from $40.00 per day plus taxes/fees to over $400.00! The only part of the rental that was on my end that raised the total was having an additional driver listed. But that only raised it by $100.00 approximately. The outrageous increase of it came from the "one way" part. I think that is very un- customer friendly. I do not think this is necessarily much different for your company than your competitors, but I do think it is taking advantage of the customer just because they are only traveling one way somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the part of any car rental company.Reviewed Apr 6 2021

Top tips for hiring a car from Dollar in Pittsburgh

  • Pittsburgh is under 60 square miles, which makes it significantly smaller than other big Pennsylvania cities like Philadelphia in terms of size. But it’s the second most populated city in the state. The streets in Pittsburgh can become congested at times, as the traffic in the area has gotten worse in recent years. When you book Dollar car rentals in Pittsburgh, it would be worth looking into the possibility of securing a compact car or, at the very least, a standard-size car that will be easy to drive around in and park.
  • While compact and standard-size rental cars will be ideal for many people renting vehicles in the Pittsburgh area, Dollar will be able to extend many other options to those in need of rental cars. From full-size cars to standard station wagons to full-size SUVs, you will be able to choose the type of vehicle that will work best for your needs. Dollar can’t always guarantee they’ll have a specific make and model, but a representative will work to find you the type of rental car that you’re in the market for.
  • The Pennsylvania Turnpike runs through Pittsburgh and helps connect it to some other large cities in the state, including Philadelphia and Harrisburg. If you plan to use the PA Turnpike at all when you’re in Pittsburgh, you will be subjected to tolls. Dollar has a special PlatePass program that will help you pay these tolls without having to worry about scrambling for cash. When you sign up for this program, it’ll take care of toll payments for a small fee and provide you with peace of mind.
  • Driving around in Pittsburgh can be a lot more confusing than driving in some other cities. The streets weren’t originally set up on a grid system, and there are between 400 and 500 bridges in the city, which may result in your getting lost if you take even a single wrong turn. When you book Dollar car rentals in Pittsburgh, you can request Dollar Connect GPS, which will help you navigate your way around town without you ending up on a bridge you would rather not cross.
  • Intermediate car hire from Dollar in Pittsburgh are around -23% cheaper than other car types, on average.
