There are a few factors to keep in mind while deciding the type of car hire in Princeton. Princeton is a small town with well-maintained roads and a mix of urban and suburban areas. Opting for a compact or mid-size car is often recommended for navigating through the town's streets and finding parking in crowded areas. These types of cars offer good manoeuvrability and are efficient for daily commuting and exploring the surrounding areas. Additionally, fuel-efficient vehicles are advantageous for cost-effectiveness and reducing environmental impact.

In most residential areas, the default speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. School zones in Princeton typically have reduced speed limits during certain hours, such as during school arrival and dismissal times. These reduced speed limits are usually posted and are typically 15 mph to 20 mph. On major roads and highways that pass through Princeton, the speed limits can vary. It is important to pay attention to posted speed limit signs on these roads. For example, on Route 1, the speed limit can range from 40 to 55 mph, depending on the specific section and signage.

Central Princeton is a lively and busy area with significant traffic, which can make finding parking a source of frustration and difficulty. However, Princeton provides ample parking options to address this issue. There are on-street metered parking spaces available in Central Princeton, which cost around $1.75 per hour (£0.35) on 3 Hours Metres streets, including Nassau Street and Witherspoon Street, and $1.00 (£0.71) per hour for streets with All Day Metres, or All Day Pat Stations like William Street or Olden Street. You can also find three large parking garages. The Municipal Garage is located next to the Princeton Public Library on Spring Street. The other two garages are privately owned and situated on Chambers Street and Hulfish Street, close to Halo Pub.
