Van was not ready when needed - phone call said"flat tire" and ready "soon" - that was at 9am. It was not ready at 11 am and I needed for passengers. Went to another company and finally at 3pm - Hertz call said ready. MUCH MUCH toolate and then have the audacity to charge me $150 for cancelling rental - NEVER AGAIN WITH KAYAK OR HERTZ.

Pick-up truck

I got a cancellation notice the day before. I called them to see if I could get a different truck, and the call center rep said it was confirmed to pick up and not canceled. When I showed up, they said it was in fact canceled and I couldn’t get the truck. Nearly derailed vacation plans.

Pick-up truck

When I arrive to pick up my vehicle, a pick up truck. Was not available. I called the 800 number and was sent to another location that they said had one, they did not. This caused a major problem for me. The only redeeming factor was that the gentleman at the Stony Brook location was extremely polite and helpful. I don’t intend to ever rent with Avis in the future.

They had 5 cars for 20 people. They had no car to give me and suggested I either sit, wait and hope one comes back, or go to the airport and later found out I needed to pay $200 in deposits. They ALSO didn’t have the vehicle.

Pickup time was Sunday at 12 noon. Arrived 12:02. Guy said we closed at 12 and wouldn’t give me rental. Customer service sent me to another location guaranteeing vehicle. Drove to this location to find no rental to meet 7 passengers. Drive to inconvenient third Budget location and had to pay more. Needless to say, extremely late to destination because lazy worker at first location would not give me the keys. He was very rude as well. Pathetic customer service. I will never rent from Budget/Avis again.

Morning staff was terrible. The lady for the afternoon was very nice but the guy that was there in the early morning was not good. He mumbled, acted like I had inconvenienced him. I will not go back to that location.

Passenger van

Budget called me at 10:30am (1.5 hrs before pick up) and let me know they didn’t think they’d have the kind of van I needed, that I reserved. I had to call 2 more times for updates , they didn’t call me. And I gave up. I never received a cancellation or a call to let me know they weren’t able to provide my reservation.
