Great experience
Pros: This was our first time using Alamo and we were very happy with your service. When the attendant at the Washington National airport saw us with all our suitcases she went and got the car for us so we didn't have to carry our suitcases across the parking lot. Thank you for making our trip easiere.

Call prior to pick up to confirm all minute detail
Pros: Convenience of rental pickup at airport, and ease of drop-off procedures.
Cons: Couldn't pickup reserved car due to paying with Visa debit card. Specifically reserved an SUV, but couldn't get anything bigger than full size, which was too small for my 6'+ height, and a higher rate than reserved SUV. Retired USMC, disabled vet and on assignment as government official, yet could not rent a simple SUV due to traveling with only my debit card. Car was dirty on the outside as well.

Just hope you don't have a problem!
Pros: The guy at DCA who rented us the car was very nice.
Cons: Our car's transmission died and Alamo told us to take a cab to the nearest airport to get a new car. We got a smaller car. They treated me as if I'd crashed the car or done something else wrong. No efforts have been made to reimburse us for the cab.

Cons: Pickup spot was unclear. It might be easy to find when you arrive by flight, but it's a mess if someone's dropping you off. Address listed on confirmation email doesn't point to the actual location.

Headlight not working - got me pulled over by police!
Pros: Customer service - outstanding. The guys at the office are helpful, informative, positive. Well done.
Cons: Hyndai Tuscon was nice. But headlight not working. Police pulled me, and had to talk my way out of a ticket.

Pros: Received a great car (Mercedes C300) for the price of a low end compact car. Car was in overall good condition, fairly low in miles, and had surprisingly good fuel economy. Dealing with the agency was fast and smooth, and we had no issues.
Cons: There was a little bit of sticky residue on the car's central console, but we just cleaned it up with some cleaning wipes, so not a big deal (especially since we got a nicer car than expected).

Location too crowded and they hand you an undermai
Cons: Underinflated tires--like, "warning light came on" underinflated, in three of the tires! Site was so congested there was no where to park the car upon return.

Imminent disaster, but worked out great.
Pros: The gentleman who helped me was quite wonderful. I regret I cannot recall his name.
Cons: My on-line reservation somehow got botched up, and was listed for one day rather than four. Fortunately the location was able to accommodate me when I arrived. I did not know that the location was going to be closed on the day I returned the vehicle; it would have been nice to have been warned in advance so it wouldn't have been a surprise.

Budget Rental at Washington National is slow & disorganized - avoid!
Pros: Our Chrysler Pacifica 7 seater was a really good car & we were very happy with it.
Cons: Pick up from Budget rental at Washington National was a frustrating experience - slow & disorganized. We made lifelong friends in the long line while we waited our turn! No instructions on the car. No GPS - we found a really helpful customer service person in the parking garage & we tipped her for her help. Otherwise we would have had to get back in the long line & start again. Crazy. I don’t recommend this as a pick up location.

Cons: Nearly 2 years since my last rental/bad experience with A/B they charged my card for someone else at pickup. On return they made me go back to agent to have charge for full tank removed when car had 1/4 tank at pickup. No more...I’m done with you.

Good, but not great
Pros: Good car in good condition. Return was easy, fast, and hassle-free. I liked that I could quickly and easily walk on the covered route from the terminal to the rental car center without taking their stupid shuttle bus.
Cons: The lady at the Fast Break kiosk was not very friendly, and the staff at the main rental counter seemed to be playing rock-paper-scissors NOT to be the one who did the work of renting us our car.

Budget deal
Pros: We had a Ford Escape, it was a great car and worked very well for the short weekend. The price was good for airport pickup, which is always expensive with tacked on taxes.
Cons: Budget was short on cars and we had to wait 30 minutes to get the car. Also, short on people during busy weekend, and we had to wait longer to figure out how to get the Emergency Light off! It would have been ideal to keep the owner's manual in the car. On the other hand, the check out process was very easy and efficient.

Lack of Selection - No EZ Pass
Pros: Drop off folks 9:30 pm 6-17 were very courteous and helpful - pointing me towards terminal
Cons: Reserved a compact car for pickup at Reagen National Tuesday June 15th, 2017 close to Midday. But was given a gas guzzling Chevy Impala (they said they didn't have any compacts to give me). Was also told at the rental counter that my car would have an EZ Pass for tolls. But when I took possession of car - no EZ Pass. Attendant in garage told me, "I don't have any EZ Pass cars to give you." Not having an EZ Pass is a major inconvenience in the Metro DC area (slows you down and you have to have exact change). Finally, when I took possession of the Impala, it had several significant scratches on the front and rear bumper. Asked garage attendent for car diagram to document the scratches (BEFORE I left garage). She said, "the attendent at the rental garage exit point will help you." But when I saw the last attendent he didn't have the diagrams either and seemed irritated that I was requesting a diagram to document scratches (so I wouldn't get charged for scratches upon returning car). Drew up a diagram myself by hand and the attendant seemed irritated When I asked him to sign diagram (once again - in an effort to protect myself from liability). He signed the hand drawn diagram in an illegible fashion (making me feel uneasy about taking car). But I was in a rush so I left garage. About an hour or 90 minutes later I called the customer service toll free number on the Payless sleeve that contained my rental agreement. After a 15 minute wait on hold , woman on hold told me I'd dialed the wrong number (she told me to call road side assistance. Called and put on hold again. Filing a claim was a long and terrible experience. I will rent from Hertz now. Will never rent a car from Payless or Budget ever again. And I will never fky into Reagan National again. Will fly into Dulles.

Bait and switch
Pros: Car was clean.
Cons: I ordered and paid for a Jeep Cherokee or similar (i.e. a mid-size SUV that could hold five suitcases), but Payless tried to give me a Jeep Compass (a compact cross-over) and claim it was "similar" - not even close. The Compass hold four duffle bags, not five suitcases. After a lot of complaining on my part, they "upgraded" me to a Ford Escape, which is what they should have given me in the first place. I spent an hour total in line because they were trying to give me the runaround. Then I had to wait in line again when I dropped off the car (rather than just leaving the keys with the parking attendant, as usual) because the system couldn't locate my rental agreement. Total of 1 1/2 spent in line due to their nonsense.

fuel service charge for car with full tank of gas
Pros: the car was good
Cons: Immediately prior to returning the vehicle, i went to a gas station close to the airport to fill the tank. Upon returning the vehicle I saw a fuel service charge on my receipt. When I asked about it I was told the tank was not full, even as I was looking directly at the indicator which clearly demonstrated it was. After some arguing a manager made a note on my receipt to have the fuel charge removed, but told me to go talk to the service counter - which would have required standing in a long line. I left and am calling my credit card company regarding the fraudulent fuel charge.

Interesting Business Model and Rental
Pros: Price was good. Always wanted to try a Fit which is a nice car. Interesting business model - Avis is the new cars, then they go to Budget, and finally to Payless. This one was a former Zip car, you could still see where the logo was removed. Fellow at the rental desk was very nice. I might try Budget next time.
Cons: Car smelled faintly as though someone had smoked in it. The cargo cover was missing.

Easy-Peasy and Great Fun
Pros: Really liked the ease of picking up the car at Reagan National, which is just a short Metro ride from downtown Washington, D.C. The car was current model Ford Fusion. It drove well and had all the right electronics to integrate with my iPhone. Really comfortable for our family of three, plus adding my aunt when we picked her up.

Cons: Car rental.com said there was "IN TERMINAL" rental office - but it requires 35-45 mins extra time to shuttle __way__ off site. Even the gut there said that ad was false. Cheap...but a pain to get to and to RETURN to (poor signage).

Pros: Our flight was delayed an hour. We got to the rental car place at 1200 am, which was the initial time to pick up the car and the place was still closed. When we called to explain that our flight was delayed but we still needed our reservation. They were not helpful and we did not get a rental car. We had to stay and pay for a hotel due to this. Not even the next morning.

I will not rent with advantage again

Cons: Local renters without insurance are required to purchase all insurance regardless of what their credit card covers. Car was dented and scratched but it takes so long (10-15 minutes per person) to check in I didn't have time to swap out the dented car for one that wasn't dented. They're terrible.

Very poorly organized operation
Pros: The price was low and there was no charge for drop off a t different location.
Cons: From arrival to exiting the lot took about two hours. First there was a half hour wait for the shuttle. Then there was an hour wait to get the keys. And then another 30 minutes in line trying to exist the lot. The delay was because the car first in line could not leave the lot because it had been sold!!! It had been rented to a family with small kids that needed kids seats shifted into a new car etc etc, just a time wasting disaster for everyone that had the misfortune to rent from such a completely incompetent company.

Cons: Rental counter NOT AT TERMiNAL, but advertised as being so. Listed phone number INCORRECT. "Confirmed" reservation NOT FOUND. Gladly took my business elsewhere. A FIASCO. NEVER AGAIN KAYAK OR ADVANTAGE FOR CAR RENTAL.

Very nice car
Pros: Got a luxury coupe so that was a very pleasant surprise. Fast ride and felt just right for our vacation.
Cons: When I was first choosing a ride, I was told the car had apple CarPlay, but it in fact did not have that so putting on my navigation was a bit difficult at first but we made it work. I got the 2018 q60 3.0t awd.

Cons: Reserved car on line with no problem using my debit card. Arrived at Avis, line was very long. Waited in line one hour to reach agent. At end of check-out process she told me my card we declined and she could not rent me a car. I was using my card frequently and it was never declined. She insisted she could not rent me a car because of a "soft credit check" by Equifax. So I went next door to Hertz and gave them my business.

Over charged
Pros: The car was clean, new, and drop off was very easy.
Cons: The rental was over $125 more than quoted on Kayak. Waited in line for over an hour to be told that if I didn't like the price AVIS was giving me I could go to a different counter in the terminal.

Poor Customer Service
Pros: Terrible customer service. I left a package in the back seat of the car I rented and when trying to call for customer service in the DCA airport nobody answered. I had to drive all the way to the airport and they couldn't find the car that I rented because I didn't have my contract with them even though o showed them my reservation number. Not helpful at all.

First time ever to use Avis
Pros: Very easy to get through the check out process in D.C. And the car performed well and was spacious. Used to like Enterprise but Avis was a much better value and the experience was great.

Prepaid gas? No thanks
Pros: They stuck me with prepaid gas even though I didn't want it. When I objected they said they would take off the charge if I brought it back full. I brought it back full and they asked for my gas receipt, which I didn't receive at the gas station. Eventually they took off the charge but acted like they were doing me a big favor. Also their pickup/drop off process at DCA is a mess.

DCA Avis Rental Counter - Comically Poor Service
Cons: Your folks working at the counter at DCA hopefully aren't actually getting paid for that "work". I watched the woman helping me clean her glasses for 10 minutes while she had a conversation with the customer being helped next to me, about how women at the Washington Nationals games no longer wear panties. I quite literally started laughing at how awful, incompetant, lazy, and rude your service was. It by itself ruined my day and ensured Avis will never recieve another dollar from me. Further, in the DCA garage, I was yelled at for being confused as to why the garage floor indicactes one parking spot number, while the small tags that hang above the same spaces indicate another. Obviously its the customer's fault for not realizing that, as was pointed out to me. There was also a huge dead mosquito in the back of my Mazda 6 which was great. Avis - suggest you change your motto to Lazy and Incompetant so people have a better idea of what to expect. Thanks!

Cons: The attendant at the kiosk was a little chatty with the people ahead of us in the line. So it felt like we waited in that line longer than usual. Additionally, the driver's door was dented so we had to wait in another line to find out how to deal with it. Once that was sorted, it was a breeze and returning the car was very fast

Great car but Poor customer service
Pros: The car ran well- nice and clean.
Cons: We couldn't find the ez pass so tried calling for help. After 30 minutes of getting shuffled from one person to another we hung up as no one could tell us where to find it. Also, we declined the insurance but were charged for it anyway. I'm sure an honest mistake but one that cost us an extra $30.99 for a three hour rental.

Cons: First, it was hard to find the location of Herz. I reserved the car for 8 and arrived at 9:15. The lady at the counter said I'm late so I can not rent the car. I called Herz and reserved for 10 a.m.. She wouldn't let me rent the car, saying that they are low on cars, but she gives other people their keys. I asked her to reserve a car for me at the airport. She reserved for me the most expensive car. My initial reservation was $120. She reserved for me for $300+. At the end I rented from enterprise. Enterprise has excellent customer service.

Never Hertz
Pros: The worst first experience.
Cons: Waited 3 1/2 hrs for a vehicle at hotel after reserving 48 hrs prior on Kayak.com. Sent me to airport location that couldn’t help because you have to have a round trip ticket. I live locally. Then the agent at the initial location calls me back saying he had a vehicle. Had to take the shuttle from airport back to the hotel. I wasted a total of 5hrs and still didn’t leave with a vehicle. I walked over to Enterprise and was in and out in 10 mins. By the way, if you are paying with a debit card Hertz runs a credit checks but they do not tell you this. This will ding your credit score. Enterprise takes a deposit for the vehicle and refunds it back.

Pros: I'm still fuming. At 5 pm the night before my early morning departure on a one way 600-mile road trip, Hertz in Arlington called me to say that they did not have an SUV for me to rent. No car at all, no help finding a replacement and barely an apology. Terrible, terrible service. I am still shocked.
Cons: Hertz could have made it right. The last-minute rental I was lucky to find from Budget cost almost triple the price, but I had no options. Hertz customer service offered a weak apology and a $50 voucher for my next rental. Very, very poor effort. I expected better from Hertz. Never again!

HERTZ DID NOT PROVIDE THE RENTAL
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: I did not receive the minivan that I reserved through KAYAK's website, nor did I receive ANY minivan from Hertz. I sent an email to KAYAK and heard back from "Shannon" from customer service, saying that any and all mistakes were made by HERTZ. My message was, in part, the following: "I rented a minivan from Hertz (Confirmation # G8204778611) yesterday (Tuesday, January 19th) for pick-up at a Hertz location in Arlington, Virginia (1401 Lee Highway, Arlington VA) on Thursday (Jan. 21st at 10am). I was to drop off that minivan on Saturday (Jan. 23, 2016 at 9am) in Lincoln, Nebraska. The rental cost was $382.67. I also purchased rental insurance, amounting to another $27.00. This afternoon (approximately 4pm, Wednesday January 20th), the 1401 Lee Highway Hertz location called, telling me that they DO NOT HAVE a minivan for me. I have been transferred from office to office, and no one can help. I need a minivan tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am, otherwise I will be stuck in DC for at least three additional days as a major snowstorm approaches. So, why would KAYAK.COM advertise a minivan rental from a Hertz location which did not have a single minivan on hand? Hertz (both that local business, as well as the Customer Service center) cannot help me with a thing...." If I cannot rely upon listings on Kayak.com, then I will need to re-direct my personal business to a responsible booking website, as well as inform my employer, my clients, my family, my friends, my fellow professional colleagues, professional affiliations, and any other person/institution in which I am affiliated, etc., that Kayak should be avoided. I expect more than just an email from a customer service representative, trying to pass the buck off to Hertz and not even providing me with a phone number to speak to someone at Kayak about my situation. I was almost stranded in Washington, DC, without a place to sleep and without any means to leave prior to the snowstorm. Kayak's response showed only indifference.

Pros: ONLY1 EMPLOYEE. HE WAS FRIENDLY. HE WAS RUNNING 2 LOCATION SAME TIME. HE NEED TO GO ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER PLACE. HARD TO HANDLE AND ANSWER PHONE TO CUSTOMER AS I NOTICE.

Cons: No one was at the counter when I arrived and I had to wait for 45 minutes. I was in such a rush at that point that I only checked the outside of the car, but when I got home realized that the interior looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned for months.

Pros: Nothing, everything was terrible, they did not have my mini van. It was the worst experience I've ever had renting a vehicle as I was depending on the minivan to move, I had the loading dock at my apt. scheduled and no vehicle. Hertz never notified me that my vehicle was not there.
Cons: Everything, could have called me, could have told me a different location to get the minivan. I probably will never rent with Hertz again.

Pros: I liked the price. There was only 2 other people in line when I went to go pick it up. The process was quick and easy. Drop off was quick.
Cons: I found orange peels and a fake nail in the seat. Location is a little out of the way, but the price and ease made it worth it.

A waste of time
Cons: It would have been for the location to be fully disclosed upon booking. I got to the airport and ended up needing a shuttle to get to them. Never got the rental cause I didn't have the time to go find the shuttle stop. Waste of time

Cons: They promised to email a receipt but never did. When I called, nobody picked up. Required extra insurance and did not make it clear during booking. Employees provided poor, slow, inefficient service and were generally angry and difficult to work with. The office smelled very bad. Location not well marked and hard to find. They did not have the car I reserved. I could go on but have wasted enough time w/ this reservation already.

Terrible rental policy for local renters: Avoid!!
Cons: I arrived at the counter in Arlington to find out that they have a very restrictive rental policy for local renters, requiring written proof of a current automobile comprehensive, collision and liability insurance policy in renters name covering injury to third persons or property (they do not accept credit card insurance, not even if primary coverage) and have mileage limitations. None of that info was provided at the time of booking. Only advantage and E-Z car have this policy. If you're a local customer, avoid them..

Worst car "rental" ever!!!
Pros: nothing
Cons: we didn't had the chance to rent the car. we went to the ez rent a car station and they said we needed a personal insurance. But we don't have one, and you didn't mentioned that we needed one. So we couldn't rent a car, and they send us to the concurrence to rent a car there! I will never ever book over kayak or ez rent a car again!!

Confusing pickup
Pros: Dropoff was easy, with a shuttle by every 10 min or so,
Cons: There were no signs at the airport for EZ Rent-a-car, just Advantage, for off-sitr rentals. I had a very difficult time getting through to a person on the phone, taking about 10 min, so by that time I happened to see a shuttle pass. Also the service desk person tries to tell me what my previously insurance plan covered, but he was wrong and it's just a sales technique, which was annoying.

Walked away with no car
Pros: The office was fine and the problems weren’t the fault of the staff behind the counter. I’m sure their cars are fine.
Cons: Completely misinformed and ended so frustrated I left without my rental. They fail to inform any renter that a $350 hold PLUS the cost of the rental will be placed on your credit card for the duration of the trip. And then, slowly refunded to you, in a matter of 5-7 business days while it sits pending, damaging your available credit. They also fail to tell you, you will need to produce a physical proof of insurance document. The rental company is outside of a metro area where the average person doesn’t not own a car, much less walk around with proof of drivers insurance. All of this, never mentioned before I even handed over my license and address, and swiped my card of course. I knew Advantage was bad about similar things, booked with EZ Car to avoid the hassle, and it’s turns out, also unannounced - they are the same company! So, damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Pros: The actual car - it was in good condition body wise and was an updated model
Cons: everything else! this was the worst experience in customer service. there was an outstanding (in a bad way) wait time - over 45 min. and the management and/or staff was very reactionary instead of being proactive including the 800#. overall this experience was very poor. Although the manager apologized for my experience, it was too little too late.

car was not in good conditions
Pros: Distance of the car shop One of the workers was really nice and efficient
Cons: The car the gave us was not in good conditions at all, in fact it was not safe, the car had an engine problem, tire problem and collision lights issue. The attention and service they first gave us was not pleasant, the girl on the front desk was not helpful at all.

Pros: Quick pick up and drop off, also cheap price.
Cons: The agent was rude and the car was dirty upon pick up. It seems as if it wasn't washed and the interior had a lot of mud smears. You get what you pay for.
