9,3 Excellent
Pros: Superb gardens and outstanding staff. Superb place all round. It is literally a paradise.
Cons: The average guest age was about 900. That’s fine, but we went as 4 lads on a fishing trip, and we seemed to be the only ones with any chat at all. The other guests were all just sat there saying nothing and listening to our conversations at the hotel bar, which is fine once but it’s a bit odd after a week.

9,3 Excellent
Pros: The pool and ocean area are beautiful. The breakfast is lovely and the afternoon tea is very enjoyable on the terrace. The gardens are also beautiful. The property is very relaxing and has several different food options, it is beautifully maintained and very serene. Villa Cipriani in particular was delicious with amazing service! The staff is very friendly and helpful and the spa services and atmosphere are amazing.
Cons: The rooms are a bit dated (old carpet, shower curtain) and the public restrooms facilities could have been better maintained.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: the whole atmosphere of the building, the cliff by the seashore, tennis ground, pools
Cons: the staff was very friendly, the consierge helped us to buy ticket to a football match however the seating was not at all comfortable, we kindly ask the team to buy the best ticket for the match... it was a burning sunny day we had to sit in front of the sun, we burnt like hell... :( i booked a room with two separated bed, however they prepared us a king sized bed suit, we had to finally change the room, it has taken more time during check in, and the view from the other room was not as spectacular as from the king sized bed room... and the room was too small, we had to ask to take out the armchairs from the room

Pros: The room was spacious with two large single beds pushed together. A beautiful roomy bathroom with a separate shower and bath. The hotel walls seemed thicker than normal for hotels - I couldn’t hear anything from any other rooms - although the hotel seemed fairly full. The breakfast buffet was delicious too ! Pros: The hotel and views are gorgeous! The staff was very professional and the service was impeccable. It was reasonably priced for a top notch hotel, as compared to other hotels in continental Europe.
Cons: Plenty of nice restaurants around the hotel, but if you want to go to the city center of Funchal, taxi service to/from the hotel is expensive and there is no Uber there. We paid around 35 Euros each way to get from/to the airport.

Pros: Best asset is the staff. Superb and varied breakfasts. Indoor pool was great to have in February
Cons: A lot of the garden was in shade- maybe some opening up would help?
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist couldn’t be more helpful. Booked us for the tasting dinner and wine the food was excellent. As was the everything else including the „how to make a pancha at the bar.
Cons: Restaurant should have had more staff as the tasting dinner was very popular. It took too long
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable room, cosy bar & terrasse with happy hours to relax at the end of the day.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: 5 Stars for a hotel I didn’t visit? Yes, because their staff behaved in such a friendly and professional way following a problem with our booking. It turned out that due to an issue with the booking system, our booking over New Year could not be honoured. Rather than just tell us that this had happened, they managed to locate a room at an amazing hotel as a substitute. As if this wasn’t enough, they also arranged for free transfers from the airport and for our return. I think you can always judge the measure of any business by the way they treat their customers to resolve a problem. I would say that Quintinha Sao Joao could not have performed any better. It was absolutely exceptional throughout! Thank you so much for pulling out all the stops for us to ensure we had a great stay in Funchal.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Food.staff helpful.surroundings.
Cons: No complimentary tea or coffee in room
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff were super friendly and helpful. They were always there to offer advice. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the rooms were spotless. I also enjoyed the gym - which was never crowded. The grand piano was a bonus! :)
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Delicious breakfast. Gardens. Bar with piano. Popular with older guests but we are in our 50s and loved it. Not pushy. Very helpful staff. Full of classy furniture and sitting areas.
Cons: Bit of uphill walk back but does you good. !
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was wonderful. The staff and owner were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable with a beautiful view of the gardens. The lush gardens were large and well kept. We enjoyed using the outdoor swimming pool. There is also an indoor pool which we didn't use because the weather was good. The buffet breakfast is very good and there is a manager's cocktail party every Tuesday. There is a person onsite to provide information about Funchal and the rest of the island as well as arrange tours or car rentals. We rented a car for 5 days and were very happy with the rental company. Many of the guests return year after year and it's easy to see why.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel, clean, friendly staff, great location
Cons: The food in the restaurant was limited and would like to have had tea and coffee in room
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Food, and friendliness of staff.
Cons: Failure of Hotel to provide the room booked via Booking.com, and allocation to room that was exposed to late night noise from other guests. Refusal of Hotel Manager to meet to discuss why our booked room was not available. Failure subsequently of either the Hotel or Booking.com to provide an explanation of why that was so.

Pros: The hotel had lots of space and places to sit and relax. The swimming pools were great. It felt calm in the hotel. Staff were helpful by and large. It was a good walk into Funchal centre but manageable. The Med restaurant was really nice and felt like a special occasion with the attentive waiting staff.
Cons: I thought the coffee at breakfast was poor given the quality of the hotel in other respects. I can’t understand how providing decent coffee is so hard.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel, beautiful gardens, large rooms, excellent breakfasts. About a 25 minute walk to the centre of Funchal although there was a courtesy bus which we didn’t use. Plenty of sun beds and very few reserved with towels so there was always somewhere to sit.

Pros: The friendliness and efficiency of the staff. The lovely accommodation with sea view and all the facilities available. We would particularly like to recommend Orillio, the aqua gym specialist!!!!! His humour and good nature is so very much appreciated.
Cons: No complaints
10,0 Excellent

Cons: It was perfect!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Everything! This is part of the Portobay Group and the three hotels (Eden mar, Porto Mare and The Residence) are set in very beautiful and immaculately kept grounds by dedicated and helpful staff in every area. There is little to fault with this hotel, the facilities are exceptional and the whole place is tranquil and relaxing.
Cons: Genuinely can't think of anything - it is a very good hotel!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Location, facilities etc etc were perfect. The staff were exceptional. They could not have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful. We will be back... thank you
Cons: Absolutely nothing at all
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing well kept gardens. Beautiful Orchid garden Excellent Aqua class. Bathrobes provided. Variety of evening music and one musical show with 5 vocalists, a pianist and 2 dancers.
Cons: Don't want to comment
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel is integrated in a bigger leisure complex, with 2 other Hotels. This means there is more pools (indoor, outdoor, deep, shallow,...) with gardens nearby and chairs and ocean views and bars and restaurants for everybody, kids included, without leaving the Hotel! Nice location, nice restaurants nearby and also inside the complex . We've tried 3 out of the 6 available. Very nice breakfast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a self catering Junior suite. The room was excellent. The kitchen area very good - big fridge. Lovely grounds; excellent swimming pools. Lots of things to do and places to eat round about.
Cons: There was no cupboard space in the kitchen for food, except the fridge. The games equipment, such as boules and mini golf should be free - a deposit to ensure that they are returned.
8,2 Excellent
Pros: Great position, friendly staff and clean
Cons: Too difficult to find a sunbed with shade. Many at the front have no parasols because of wind. It is ridiculous that all sunbeds are claimed with towels early in the morning by guests and then often they are only used for a couple of hours a day. It says that towels will be removed if not used but this doesn' t happen.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place if you have children - lots of space and activities for all ages. Lovely grounds, several indoor and outdoor pools, various restaurants, well equipped kitchenette, friendly and responsive staff, free parking on site, great breakfast selection. Large resort but designed and operated with class.
10,0 Excellent
Cons: Hotel and staff were lovely. Outside areas are gorgeous! Dinner buffet was great and always with lots of variety! Just a note for the checkout staff member - didn’t even ask if we enjoyed the stay or if was everything ok @01.04

Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. 9,3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and neighbourhood. Away from the typical touristic area. Loved the dogs (2 brown labradors), lovely and heartful welcome. Romantic view across Funchal. Breakfast good. If you come by car, definitely use their own in-house garage.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel and amazing staff! We loved the breakfast experience - outdoors on the patio with amazing views of the city. The breakfast is real value for money and has everything you could want - omelettes, poached eggs, bacon, sausage, cereals and fresh fruit juice and more, best of all - you can chose to have it at anytime. It's great to be able to sleep in when you're on holiday and still have breakfast available by 12/1 PM! The hotel is close to town as well, although you might still need to drive there as the roads can be quite steep if walking. Toiletries are great, loved having bathrobes. Room was spacious with a comfy bed, and with great sunset views from the garden view room. Special thanks to Silvia and her team, we had a great stay and would definitely stay again if we return.
Cons: Was happy to see a coffee machine in our room until we were told that each pod was 2 Euro! Very strange as most hotels provide in room coffee for free. Anyways, you can visit the nearest Pingo supermarket and pick up an entire box of pods for 4 Euro and use those instead of paying 2 Euro per pod. If you're arriving by car for the first time, call need to ahead when you're about 5 mins away as you need the garage door to be opened by the staff. There is no place to wait on the road as it's a small two way road. Once you check in, you will get a garage remote. Would be good to have a full length mirror as well.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: They have a beautiful garden with a really good view over the city. You can have breakfast here as well. There is also a living room that is accessible to everyone. They have a garage below where you can park your car. Upon arrival they will give you a key device so can open and close the garage door and leave/come back whenever you'd like.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved just about everything in this hotel! From the parking garage that they kindly opened for us when we arrived (just give them a call a few minutes before arriving), so we didn't need to leave our car on a steep street, to the personal greeting. Room was spaceous, whole hotel is bright and welcoming. The garden is beautiful and the view to the old town is just perfect! We really enjoyed the breakfast, that they served us outside with the view of Funchal. Old town is just about 10 min walk away. The staff was amazing and very helpful. Thank you for everything, we would strongly reccomend staying with them.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The brekfast was wonderful with a lovely view. Room was nice and clean. I would definately visit again!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Silvia"s breakfast was a very nice feast that included made to order eggs and her special fresh juices. Served with a smile and great views of Funchal. The staff was welcoming and helpful with anything we needed at any time of day. Marianna exceeded our expectations to help us out. Many thanks to the staff! We very much enjoyed our stay and the comforts for our room.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet, restorative environment
Cons: The bed was not comfortable enough.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The view from both the room and the garden/terrace, the amazing breakfast, the location close to the old town restaurants, marina, cable car and farmers market, the staff who were all much more than nice and helpful, the indoor parking of the hotel (otherwise very difficult to park in the area). We felt like visiting family/ friends...
Cons: -
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is an absolutely beautiful, tasteful hotel and definitely in the 'boutique' department. You can't really see it from outside but once through the gate you get to see that its an old house with a large modern extension set within a lovely well maintained garden/courtyard area. Our room (212) was a suite within the old house with a huge balcony that overlooked Funchal and the sea. The space we had was enormous with a large bedroom that opened on to the balcony. It has a separate fully equipped kitchen with hob, microwave, coffee machine, fridge, toaster, etc, a large bathroom with 2 sinks and a dining room that never got used. Breakfast is served either downstairs or outside under a cover overlooking Funchal and the harbour. Breakfast is huge and consists of cereals, bread, pasties, meats, cheese and various cooked options. We absolutely loved this hotel and could not fault it - everything has been carefully thought about and it is of a very high standard. When arriving you are personally greeted by the manager who tells you about stuff - like breakfast starts at 8am and does not finish - turn up whenever it suits you! There is no hotel reception as such so its all very quiet and almost feels like it's your personal place - although you can call someone anytime of the night or day if need be.
Cons: Nothing could be better about the hotel as such - maybe a sun-lounger on the balcony as well as the table and chairs? The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the 'old town' and 'Rua de Santa Maria' - but its up hill on the way back - you don't get the glorious views for nothing!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The view was amazing from our bedroom overlooking Funchal city and seafront. The beds were really comfortable and the accommodation was very modern and clean with lots of light. The garden was also very well maintained and lovely to look at. The staff members were very welcoming and went above and beyond with requests and help.

Pros: Public areas were clean.
Cons: Food lacked imagination. Limited choices. Far too expensive for what was provided. The room is an eclectic mix of worn out furniture and mismatched artwork. In need of a complete refurbishment. Very disappointing. Smoking is allowed on balconies. Smoke then comes into your personal space, not nice.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good enough. Location close to city center and old town. Friendly personal. Spacious rooms.
Cons: Price is a bit too high comparing with hotel's condition. I believe, hotel requires renovation already.

Pros: The service is outstanding - welcoming but very effective (English tradition with Portuguese touch). The hotel is old but charming. Quality is everywhere. Junior suite as enough space and a great view over the pool(s) and ocean - perfect weather for sleeping whit windows open and listening to the sea.
Cons: The price point is reasonable but still expensive for a February stay. Some hotel areas could benefit from a brief update. Beds are not top quality but still comfortable,

Pros: I was overwhelmed by the whole experience. I had paid for the airport shuttle, and was picked up with my name on a card in the company minibus and it was just me. The amount of facilities you had access to, as a guest of the hotel, was incredible-the two hotels, the sports centre, the spa, the restaurants and bars-it was amazing. My room was available to check in to, early. The receptionist went above and beyond to inform me of all opportunities. The spa was incredible and I had the best massage I've ever received. The views were breathtaking. It is a great location; not too far from Funchal-only 2.20 Euro for the bus into town. The receptionist also helped me book my whale and dolphin spotting experience, with Magic Dolphin, which was incredible. The staff could not have been more helpful or accommodating. I went at the beginning of June for a short solo break and it was perfect. I will absolutely be returning.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice gesture of the hotel to upgrade us to suite knowing it was our honeymoon trip! We like the responsive and friendly staff. Views from the hotel room is amazing. Room is comfortable and good cleaning service daily.
Cons: Atlantis restaurant is overrated. Breakfast spread is limited and food quality has plenty of room for improvement. We also tried their lunch, and disappointed with our tuna and beef fillet. Taste is meh and not worth the price and stomach space!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the hotel is just WOW! The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was a great with many options, and the restaurants/bars on site are incredible! I liked the variety of sun beds/lounges by the pool.
Cons: The gym was in a sister hotel across the road, would've been ideal if it were in that same building.

Pros: breakfast was good. staff was very friendly and helpful
Cons: I expected more for the high price the "beach" was always very crowded because the partner hotel was using it as well
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful Stay and the gentlemen at the front desk was so Welcoming !! And accommodating and Great Attitude !! Breakfast was awesome , loved the all natural honey from the actual bee hive !! That was amazing !! Lovely place , highly recommend and nice location ...
Cons: Everything was awesome !!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in the Galomar (adults only) part of the hotel complex and had an amazing stay. We stayed for three nights as part of our honeymoon and have already recommended the hotel and the location to many of our friends.
Cons: Not much to not like really, a most enjoyable experience.
7,0 Good
Pros: Being a small hotel it doesn't feel crowdy despite being at full capacity
Cons: Despite having booked almost 8 months in advance was placed on the first room nearest to the entrance and therefore a very noisy room
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for here for our honeymoon, and it was the best stay ever! the hotel is very modern, environmental friendly, has all facilities in mint condition, food is great too! the bonus part, our room was full ocean view! massive door which let us enjoy the outdoor scenery to the max! loved every minute of it!...having said all this...we constantly miss our room & view! I'll recommend it to everyone!
Cons: Breakfast starts at 8, most tours we did picked us at 8.20 from the hotel, breakfast was in a rush from our end, perhaps if they can start it at 7.30 it could be better....but its just 1 minor thing...still survived :D
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I honestly liked everything about the property. Rooms are spacious with an amazing ocean view. Beds are comfortable. AC works perfectly with almost no noise. Infinity pool and Spa sections are incredible. Taking into account that sauna was always empty I enjoyed it every day. Breakfast is for Portuguese standards excellent. So much variety and what is most important it was freshly made and very tasty. I was looking forward to it every morning. Restaurant and Bar/Lounge area are also very comfortable and offer a beautiful view with a delicious menu. Hotel and Restaurant Staff was extremely friendly, we really found Duarte Santos helpful with every facet of our visit. Also cleaning staff (I believe her name was Sonia) was so kind and made our stay as comfortable and clean as possible. We really appreciated patience, kindness and care that we have encountered in this hotel.
Cons: N/A I really enjoyed every aspect of this hotel.

Overview Reviews
orto Santa Maria is located at the water's edge with direct access to the sea front promenade. Behind the hotel lies the old centre of Funchal, the well-known "old town". Its close relationship to the sea, the outstanding and exclusive views over the harbour where the cruise ships dock, its picturesque surroundings and the unique flavours of its cuisine result in genuine urban tranquility. The Porto Santa Maria´s location is fantastic for both the actively inclined and those who would prefer to relax and listen to the breaking of waves. A congenial hotel offering 146 rooms, restaurant, bars with terrace, direct access to the promenade, outdoor pool, indoor pool, SPA, gym, parking... all in the heart of the city. Porto Santa Maria is an adult only hotel, only accepting reservations for guests over 16 years old.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, brilliant room (apart from its location within the complex), comfy sun beds, delicious choices at breakfast and all staff were helpful and friendly.
Cons: Poor swimming pool - it's only 1.5m deep and freezing - so not good for swimming, the gym is hidden in a corner in the basement. Our room overlooked the garden/park next door so we had lots of disturbance from noisy drug users and dealers.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly & helpful in all departments. The hotel location is excellent being on the sea front, quiet, but very near the town & all the facilities. All the walking was flat which suited my husband on his mobility scooter. The Spa & indoor pool were very good too.
Cons: The loung area in the hall was a bit sparse & spread out.

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Ovation is great, lots of restaurants. Hotel facility great. Breakfast is fantastic.
Cons: Female reception very gruff, felt like I was bothering her. Not friendly and very curt. The young girls at the desk were very friendly as were the men but the 2 female older staff members were not.

Pros: clean & comfortable room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location and rooftop pool
Cons: Nothing
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff did respond to my requests for an alternative room as well as getting us checked in earlier. Also, we tried the evening dinner buffet and it was exceptional.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is in an excellent location and this is the reason I chose it over several similar standard hotels in Madeira. The facilities are good with a range of options for sitting in the sun and relaxing. Housekeeping is very good and the rooms are maintained to a high standard. The gardens and grounds are very well kept with an interesting variety of flowers and shrubs. Entertainment is provided every evening and though each evening was very different they all appealed to a wide range of guests. The spa is excellent and I would recommend making the most of a treatment during any stay.
Cons: I was disappointed with the quality of the breakfast. There was a wide choice of both hot and cold breakfast dishes and the choice offered was varied, to some extent, each day. However, all hot food is retained in warming dishes and these will only ever provide warm food. In addition of course they produce steam which has an impact on the food inside. Eggs continue to cook in the warmth and end up rubbery. For a hotel of this quality, this is the weakness in what they offer. I only ate in the restaurant on the first night. The buffet dinner was not of a good quality and the al a carte dishes arrived luke warm and poor. However, the options for eating out close to the hotel are plentiful and, in most cases, considerably cheaper. In addition, I was surprised to find so many staff who did not seem to be happy in their work. Whilst they were all polite and efficient only a minority could manage a smile and very few engaged with the guests.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has a superb location and the rooms are large and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and the spa is excellent.
Cons: Would have preferred a more central sea view
8,8 Excellent
Pros: All-in-all a good place, quality hotel with decent style. Breakfast is very decent. Location is good - in the middle of old city, good if you are up for touristy things. Fair value for money. A perfectly decent hotel - an upper-medium 4* experience
Cons: Staff is ok but could be a bit more forthcoming. Overall, a bit of a mass-tourist experience - you can see that the place is mostly booked by tourist agencies/en mass...

Pros: Everything
Cons: Very used carpet in a main bedroom. It looks dirty.
6,8 Good
Pros: Home was nice, kitchen, salon, televisión channels etc.. We were near to the road to catch the bus into Funchal.
Cons: There was no cushions on the sun beds on the terrace. The area was very hilly, you need a car.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Huge villa, well equipped with everything you need except there was no good coffee machine like nespresso. The garden is nice and the terrace is lovely for breakfast and diner. Beautiful view on the sea and Funchal. The maintenance is excellent, it looked like new. The cleaning is OK, some the bed-sheets had black stains from some machine oil I guess. If you are not on the main road but inside the compound, it's very quiet and relaxing. The pool in the village forum is heated and not crowed in early July, we were almost alone most of the time, excellent to relax after a good walk. We were sad to leave!
Cons: May be better cleaning, but it's not a big deal, it was clean. Bad smell in the closets because of humidity, but I'm not sure they can do much about it. Again not a big deal.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Kitchen was well stocked. Very clean.
Cons: Didn't really like the pillows on the bed.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the location closer to nature and the facilities in the flat and the surroundings. Although it is locate outside Funchal it is easy to get to places.
Cons: not having a safe and not having details for the bus but once we figured out it was easy to get into Funchal.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The villa was stunning, we called it “the palace”! The private pool was gorgeous, as were the views, and the villa was very well thought out. Loved the Palheiro gardens with discounted entry. So beautiful & a great cafe.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The villa was beautiful. Decorated to a high standard with everything we needed. The pool was perfect, we are so pleased we paid the extra for it to be heated. What can I say about those views, in one word....spectacular. We hired a car so got to see around the island too which is so beautiful. Very sad to be leaving, we’ve had a lovely holiday.
Cons: Nothing!
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful ocean views from all rooms.
Cons: The host accidentally showed us a two bedroom apartment in mistake. That location (Apartment model is same as ours but someone luckily booked it) offers the best views of all. I wish that the pictures of each apartment should be specific to that apartment only, not to confuse with other apartment's ones.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect with a beautiful view on the bay, amenities are continent and nice, nice and big pool, effective and kind staff, fully equipped kitchen.
Cons: Bed quality, one king was good, the second a queen was too small for two people, the mattresses quality of the single beds was poor.

Pros: Breakfast selection was great and varied. Quality of food was good. Nice are to sit outside overlooking the sea. View from the room was great, balcony space was very comfortable and great view. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful location of hotel was very good on the sea, and lots of activities within walking distance. Neighbourhood is very nice- hotel entrance and gardens were very good.
Cons: The bathroom was a bit dated, and lighting not very good. Shower was average and sometime difficult to get the water temp right....either too hot or too cold.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: My wife and I chose the Vidamar as our hotel as we wanted to get away for a shore honeymoon after our wedding. We selected the hotel based on price, amenities, location, appearance in photos on booking website and reviews. This is the first time either of us have actually stayed in a resort style hotel and we must say we were pleased. Staff are very kind, conscientious and willing to help. Amenities are very good and everything is clean. Having just got back to work we are already missing the place and the experience. We expect to be back within the year :)
Cons: Nothing.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location is great, 20 min walk from marina and CR7. Feel like you are on the cruise ship when get the room on the upper floors.
Cons: Food, mainly dinner buffet requires an improvement. Skip it for a number of times as variety of good places around. Indoor swimming pool as well requires an upgrade.

Pros: The staff were always helpful and the facilities were above normal standards
Cons: Nothing was not to be liked.

Pros: The sushi restaurant was brilliant and is something not to be missed. The staff were fantastic
Cons: Funchal has excellant food places. It is a foodies delight. So having half board is a kind of loss overall
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Free Upgrade to full sea view Lovely choices for breakfast
Cons: Not 5 star in my view Room dated Evening buffet wasn’t great
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The food is wonderful even in the buffet; buffets normally aren't that good. There is always at least one great fish dish. There are a lot of staff; service is fast and friendly. Rooms are enormous, directly facing the sea.
Cons: Just one thing: no free drinking water in the rooms.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good! The facilities were very varied. Gym was awesome!
Cons: The room as narrow and difficult to manouvre in with 2 people. The spa was not as good as we had hoped for. A bit boring and machinery didnt work. The dinner at the restaurant was bland and tasteless.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. From the time we got there to the time we left, it felt like a 5 star experience even though it was a 4 star hotel, from getting greeted at the door with wine when first coming to check in , to getting the little treats put in our room when we left to the live music every night. It exceeded my expectation in every way and would highly recommend to anyone.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very Clean, modern and stylish with great facilities and breakfast included.
Cons: If you have a hire car, parking is very tight and limited around the hotel. The hotel will offer the use of their garage at €6/day which is much easier than constantly driving around a one way system hunting for car park spaces.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Nice pool, rooms were clean and spacious, friendly staff.
Cons: Buffet breakfast and dinner was lacking in quality, especially for a four star hotel. New beach towels were charged at a couple of euros, again surprising for a 4 star hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location and service
Cons: Location and very clean
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was really great! The reception staff were extremely helpful - always happy to help and have a personal touch! Our room was very comfortable with little treats arriving every day. The breakfasts were delicious with a huge variety. All went splendidly and I would recommend this hotel to others. I appreciated the late check out and early check in to coincide with our flights. Thank you to all
Cons: Nothing ;)
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and even helped some friends who were not guests at the hotel.
Cons: It didn’t seem that any of the gym equipment worked (running machine etc)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. It was extremely clean and the facilities excellent. The setting was perfect with lots of restaurants nearby to walk to. Lots of selection for breakfast.
Cons: No slippers or dressing gowns and towels quite small. Pool towels not soft and a bit frayed.
7,0 Good
Pros: The breakfast buffet was very good.
Cons: We booked a room with a "view" for 7 nights. The room we were given was facing the the parking lot and low enough that people could see into our room for 7 nights! When I went back to reception they said they would look into it. Later I got a call and was told I booked a land view room. No, I said, my details say view, not land view. I added that most people would assume that means a view of the ocean. The response was well that's just good marketing! Eventually they moved us to a more private room with a partial view of the ocean. Bottom line is double check with the hotel to confirm the type of room they are planning to give you.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The facilities are great, the setting and configuration of the building, with its different levels (bar, restaurants, pool) with incredible views towards the ocean, are fantastic. We liked our room (seaside), the breakfast, and to get sweets and fruit delivered every day was a nice surprise! Last but not least, staff was very friendly.
Cons: nothing really (the coffee machines at breakfast perhaps :)
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice rooms, good facilities and friendly staff.
Cons: Point for improvement would be towels and water dispenser in the gym room

Overview Reviews
This family-friendly Funchal hotel is located near the boardwalk, within 1 mi (2 km) of Formosa Beach and Lido. CR7 Museum and Funchal Marina are also within 3 mi (5 km).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hotel. We felt our selfs really good, safe and the service was greatand the meals as well. Beautiful garden, friendly staff. We would love to come back! :) <3
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great sized rooms that were cleaned daily to a high standard, fantastic view of the sea and pool on a good sized balcony, very friendly and helpful staff, good selection of food for buffets throughout the day - although we ate out on a few occasions over 10 days to mix it up a little, good indoor and outdoor pool with plenty of sun-loungers.
Cons: We weren’t told that the Italian was a set menu before booking so left after we arrived and didn’t like the options, 1 or 2 members of staff were very miserable but 95% of them were brilliant, evening entertainment was good but very repetitive it would be nice if something other than singers was offered
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything : starts with location, Hotel itself, food, service.... I definitely will recommend this hotel and I m looking forward to come back here for my next vacation, for sure!
Cons: In a Fish Restaurant did not like the meal I chose. I had for the main course Rice with Prawns and Fish: I must say that this was a bowl full of rice with just one prawn and a bit piece of fish, and it was tasteless.... the other restaurants were great.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything with the hotel was good
Cons: The problem we had was there was no air conditioning in the room, so we had to keep the window/door open each night. The entertainment was too loud for us to sleep and did not finish until midnight. We could not escape from the noise. When the entertainment was over there were people out side still enjoying themselves until 2am. Because of this we were not getting to sleep until after this time, which was not acceptable. Because of this we would not stay in the hotel again or recommend to our family or friends....sorry.
7,5 Good
Pros: Nice view from the room. It was a full see-view. Friendly staff, but sometimes it wasn't easy to understand each other. Friendly staff but they have no time to talk at all. But the smile is always a good thing.
Cons: After a few days the buffet menu is boring, no other ingredients. It is bad, that for a huge hotel like this, not provided a free transfer to the city, so you have to pay always 10€ to travel to the city plus 10 to back to the hotel. The thematic restaurants - italian, japan, madeirian are also have the same food as the buffet, but in a different deko.
7,5 Good
Pros: Buffet, bar and facilities
Cons: “Japanese” restaurant was a complete failure: hurry staff, very poor quality of food (better to close the place, really), teppanyaki cooking table was washed in a very unpleasant way in the middle of the meal, no more appetite nor pleasure (if any of them was still here at that time..). Same kind of experience in Madeira restaurant, very hurry staff, food so so, dessert had an extra alive fly stuck in the cake... Generally, quantity and “all inclusive” approach impact quality of food and drink, but still possible to find a couple of good tailor-made cocktails with the friendly barmen.
7,5 Good
Pros: Good location Good service Good food Clean
Cons: There could be more signs for Gluten free options. More sun loungers and umbrellas, or enforce not leaving your towel on your sunbed for hours. Gym needs an upgrade
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the room and the staff were very helpful
Cons: The evening buffet was very busy and not relaxing
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location was good. Buffets were good, if a little crazy busy on our first day, after that it was good. Rooms are clean. Location good for walking into Funchal or there is a shopping centre 15 mins away. They serve decent drinks as part of the package. Look out for the falcon and sparrow hawk they employ each day to keep the pigeons at bay.
Cons: Reception staff not very helpful when I was trying to find one of their activity sessions in the hotel. Entertainment activities were a bit lacking as they advertise them in the lift but then don't tell you where to go to book. We were not the only people wondering where to go to- it was not obvious to check the tiny whiteboard near the Kid's Club. Stick to the buffet for dinner. The dinner at the Japanese restaurant was AWFUL.. an insult to Japanese food. The Italian restaurant was OK but there was no atmosphere and as soon as you finished one course, the next was on the table like a conveyor belt. The Madeiran restaurant was probably the best of them all but buffet still better. Some of the staff (not all) were quite miserable and hard worked. Internet was a bit iffy at times.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The beds were super comfy, the staff were great and the gym was good. We really liked our meal at the Japanese themed restaurant.
Cons: The animation activities could have been better.

Pros: The rooftop pool, bar and restaurant were the perfect places to hang out and unwind at the end of a full day in Madeira. Being able to book everything through the front desk (dinner, rental car, etc.) made for a very easy stay. Got great advice from the front desk in general.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast, very good location near to the marina but not noisy in the hotel
Cons: the system for controlling the room lights was overly complicated.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Location. Pool. Breakfast. Good ac. Shops below. A great stay overall
Cons: Rooms are super dark and lighting is odd. But you could open the doors on the terrace so that helped.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really friendly and helpful. Location was perfect. We upgraded, and the room was spectacular. All very quirky and modern. It was situated above a small shopping centre and a 10 minute stroll to the promenade. A twenty minute walk to the right of the hotel took you to the restaurants and shops "up the hill" and a fifteen minute walk to the left took you to the restaurants in the old part of the town. There was something to do every day...lots of culture and steep hills! ( But bus transport or taxis can get you around too ) We used the " Hop-On Hop Off bus " and saw so much. Definitely worth the money.
Cons: The pool was situated on the top of the hotel with great views. This was lovely, but there were only 34 sun loungers. Had to get there early:-)
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Location, balcony, staff
Cons: The elevator
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very cool style & design comfortable furniture very Friendly staff Stunning roof top bar and jacuzzi Junior Suite with nice hot tub next to the bed
Cons: Construction Noise
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great, price was great. Clean hotel. Great staff. If you want to be in the middle of the town with great access to everything this is a good place to stay
Cons: There is nothing that I didn’t like about this hotel. It was perfect for what we needed.
7,5 Good
Pros: I loved the breakfast, lots of fresh fruit, delicious cheeses, fish, veggies and amazing pastries. The coffee is rather poor and the service seems a little annoyed. They serve you coffee or tea as soon as you’re seated but after that they kind of expect you to not bother them again.
Cons: I really didn’t like my room: dark, no place to put my things in the bathroom, no bathtub and very poor privacy for the toilet. When I asked for a room change, they would only upgrade against surcharge...which I understand if the place is well booked and high season but otherwise....
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, close to the old town and also to the new parts of the city. Service and our treatment was exceptional
10,0 Excellent
Pros: All was perfect simply a gourgeours hotel, loved everything about it, stayed in room 214 Junior suite 5***

Pros: Quality of hotel
Cons: Nothing
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, comfortable rooms. Great breakfast, plenty of choice. Relaxing, quiet pool area. Stunning views from the rooftop bar. Helpful staff.
Cons: Only criticism- a large family with lots of children in the roof top bar altering the quiet, peaceful, romantic atmosphere. (It's an adults only hotel.)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I like this hotel. It has friendly staff and is really clean and well decorated. Breakfast is very nice too. It's in a good place amongst the other tourist hotels with lots of other facilities around and close enough to both Funchal and Camara De Lobos if you fancy a walk.
Cons: The rooms on one side of the hotel are a little bit noisy for enoying the balcony but the pool and rooftop bar make up for that I'd say.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The location it is very friendly! Have parking place very good and complete facilities are perfect for nice holidays. A plus it is the Bar on the roof with a nice panorama!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beds were v comfortable, shower was really v good, maid service in room v good, towels being changed etc,, no complaints. Pool area and pool v clean. Excellent breakfasts , plenty of choice

Pros: Check in and out very good reception staff very nice
Cons: Not enough parasols around pool. Pool rules not being policed ie glasses around pool. Breakfast could be better ie sausage bacon very greasy
3,3 Mediocre
Pros: cheap dinner
Cons: The worst hotel in Funchal, definitely the ugliest
7,4 Good
Pros: We enjoyed the ocean and Funchal view from our balcony. The bus station, the ocean, and the supermerkat was nearby. The hotel was about 30 minutes on foot from the center. It is a good level 3 starts hotel for good prize.
Cons: The building from outside is looking not nice. Little big noisy.
5,6 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was pretty good. The room was clean and had a balcony, which was nice.
Cons: The hotel building itself does not look that nice. It was also a tiny bit far from the centre.
6,4 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff and convenient location. I felt that it was good value for the money I paid and the staff did all they could to make me welcome
Cons: It looks old fashioned from the outside, heavy blue tiles. The room I stayed in, although quite spacious, was rather dark, due to the fact that the shutters had no catches to keep them open.
