we had a very nice sea-view, and shall return. Nice indoor pool when the weather was not so good
Great large room with a good ocean view. Used the pool and gym facilities every day. Good breakfasts.
Drinks & Food at the Cliff Bay were expensive, however there are many good quality and cheaper places to eat and drink close by (try Frangos around the corner and have the piri piri chicken and tomato salad).
The room was beautifully decorated and was very comfortable.I really enjoyed being able to relax in different areas of the hotel.
Size and layout, location of room.
Was turned away from restaurant for breakfast, very brusquely and without any assistance as to where I should go. When I asked another member of staff for directions, he pointed me back to the restaurant I had just been ejected from. There then followed an altercation in Portugese with me finally, and with a lack of good grace, being seated in what I late learned was the "VIP" restaurant. I was assured by the second member of staff that the package I had paid for entitled me to eat in that restaurant. I was somewhat surprised to find later that my partner, who breakfasted before me, had also been turned away from this restaurant and had eaten elsewhere. If you are going to be a 4\5 star hotel, then you should provide 4\5 star service.
Real 5 star approach without any pretentious attitude. Everyone very friendly and extremely helpful. A truly relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Will definitely return to this location and hotel.
The Atlantic Ocean stretches as far as the eye can see at the foot of The Cliff Bay. Perched on the top of a natural promontory, the hotel is surrounded by gardens - with innumerable secluded corners and centenary palm trees extending to the very edge of the cliff face. The panorama is completed by a magnificent view over the bay of Funchal to the east of the hotel. This 5 star hotel, one of PortoBay Hotels premium resorts, assures that every single little detail has been carefully conceived to present genuine peace, well-being and elegance. In the hotels sea access area one can combine the Atlantic Ocean breeze with the spell-binding views when choosing the new pontoons and solariums. The most influential restaurant guide in the world, the Michelin Guide, has awarded the Il Gallo d'Oro, The Cliff Bay's gourmet restaurant, run by Chef Benot Sinthon, with 2 Stars.
