The breakfast was great, especially the poached eggs and the porridge. Appreciated the choice of hot or cold plates. The room was large and comfortable with 2 double beds, plenty of pillows, nice duvets, comfy chairs, good sized TV, large bathroom, private balcony where you could smoke if you wished. Dining room staff and housekeeping staff excellent.
The food at the evening meal was disappointing, I would rate it only 2 or 3*. The shower area in our room, although very large, was lethal! The large shower tray was so slippery and there were no grab rails. Reception were able to provide a rubber mat when asked but this felt like a dangerous design error. Also nearly had several accidents going from room to balcony and vice versa - there is what seems like an unnecessary step down into the room - just when your eyes need to adjust to different light levels. No choice of what weight of bedding - only a quite thick duvet which was too hot the first night, a spare blanket would have been nice as a choice.
Gym, swimming pool, quiet neighborhood, very helpful staff, tasty food, comfortable beds, clean room.
The gym has a lot of equipment, but most are rusty. Not very good coffee.
Our room 979 was fantastic , I emailed the hotel before hand - my request for a quiet room , twin ( had 2 v comfortable doubles) with a pleasant view ( wow sea views from this room’s balcony ) exceeded our expectations as we had only booked a twin side view room- Although we had to eat early 630/7. Was able to use 3 specialty restaurants on our short stay. The Japanese one was our favourite. The buffet for breakfast and lunch was very good. Especially the fresh fish cooked while you waited. Also it was nice to be able to eat outside for lunch. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked for diet coke for fridge and this was remembered. Liked having a kettle in our room. Although only 1 choice of each wine colour -type i liked the dry white . Although only a glass served With meals at a time the staff fill up as soon as one looks nearly empty. Thanks The Floaters decaf coffees were v pleasant after dinner too. Able to try several Maderia wine and some Poncha Rum via the AI. Although not all to my taste was nice yo try. The sweet Madeira wine with the lunch’s fruit cake was my favourite. Red Hop on off buses stop minutes away. Easy walk to a small mall - forum shopping centre which was open til 10pm .
Outdoor pool out of action until end of the month. Was able to use indoor pools/ spa instead - main disadvantage was it was a bit of an eye sore also wasn't prewarned before we checked in. Maderian restaurant- their signature dish was a let down. I hope just an off day for the chef but fish overcooked, no passion fruit sauce and 1 tiny sliver of banana only on it.
The hotel is perfectly situated on the sea-front with lovely views, we were given a free up-grade to a larger room with 2 huge beds. The standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel is excellent. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent with a great selection on offer all day and the themed restaurants are very good. Drinks are all branded. Entertainment is on offer every evening and is top notch.
Unfortunately the outdoor pool was being refurbished during our stay but I feel it would have been too cool to use and we were happy using the indoor heated pool.
Nice staff lovely food
