This was all done in the office of the South African Airways who I assume was managing the Airlink flight."

Cons: "Similar to some other reviewers we had to completely exit the terminal at JNB and then check in for our international flight sequence on Qatar, this was easy but caused a little anxiety, especially after learning that the total checked baggage for one person on the air link is 30kgs (66lbs) which is less than standard international weights. We had to pay extra for the “overweight” bags but the cost was reasonable. I would use the airline again."

We had a connection flight from Johannesburg to Luanda (DT578 TAAG Angolan Airlines) wich we nearly missed. My luggage didn't arrive in Luanda. So far nothing wrong. Delays are normal. The major problem was the ground crew in Maputo who didn't provide proper information on time. Furthermore after landing in JHB no protection to late passengers in transit was provided. When disembarking I approached a lady at the bottom of the stairs and she didn't have our names on the list so we were on our own trying to find our way through the endless cue at the transfers counter. We made it but I'm sure Hussein Bolt would have lost a race against us. Shame SAA!!! This was the last airline in Africa I would expect a such unprofessional treatment. At this time I had already extra lagguage which I paid $200 and they told me to pay another $200 dollars for carry on bag. They were so rude to me they told me to leave the bag if I do not have money. I was stranded. I tried to tell them that I boarded two flight which they did not charge me. They said the flights has different laws. But when I was going to New York i used the same flight with carry on lagguge and my laptop bag. So I paid $400. When I entered the flight I was shocked to find that almost everyone had a carryon bag. I felt that they did that to me because I was black and they wanted to find advantage on me. I was so stressful because I had no where to go. I used Delta flight when i was coming to new york but I have never experienced this charges. Now international flight experiencing this horrible situation. . True paying $400 because I had carry on bag?? Am still stressful they took a lot to me. They did not gave me receipt. I asked them to give me receipt all what they were answering me was like "just go." I have never been in a such situation. That is why I said I do not have appetite of boarding South African airways again. Is it true that your laws doesn't allow people to have carryon luggage? Unfortunately I left my prescription reading glasses on flight VA602 and Jacques Nortje at Heathrow was kind enough to go looking for them at the lost and found of Virgin Atlantic—to no avail. Black hard case with blue rimmed glasses and a blue cleaning cloth. His service was a godsend—enabling me to stay flight side whilst he went land side so I did not need to go through security for an unaccomplished mission as the glasses were not there."

This did not transpire and the whole plane had to sleep in the departure lounge on the seats with cold aircon and no food or drink. The staff went home and left us to survive. We were told that they would not put us on another flight. By 8 am there was a mutiny because no one was keeping us informed about what was happening. We were tired and hungry and they just did care. After a group meeting, which got very angry, we were then allocated a room in a hotel. The lack of help was unbelievable and we were made to feel like criminals. No senior management came to give apologies. No compensation was offered for our 24 hour delay."

The Ghana boarding process actually borders on the ridiculous when you are told to go to the gate three times in the announcements and turned away three times by security staff. You have to produce your passport three times at the boarding gate entry as well. Vegetarian food is normally always a tomato pasta dish. FYI vegetarians eat vegetables too and we like butter and cheese as well. Emigration should work out that two plane loads of people need more than three officials to check them ion arrival at ORT."

Secondly. there was no video function beyond flight path for the entire flight. I live in a village in Zambezi and truly enjoy watching media on flights as I don't see much at home in Kanono and haven't figured out computer very well. The crew said they would reboot (?) the program but that didn't happen. There was no apology for contracted feature not being available, I sure wish I could have watched movies as I am not able to sleep in general."

When we asked the crew for help in kindly reminding passengers to dispose of their airsickness bags, if used, they were very dismissive rather than helpful."

Cons: "Incident report: August 15, 2016, SA210, When we stopped at Accra, Ghana, Kotoka International ACC for re-fuel and cleaning the aircraft --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- South African Airline violates two accounts stated on the bottle: 1. When it says “dis-infection of Aircraft” means Passengers are not Aircraft. Passengers should not be sprayed on. Passengers should not be in the airplane when this is sprayed. 2. Use for Pre-embarkation means no human in the aircraft. We were inside of the aircraft. It sprayed on our body all over and everywhere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Major health damages: 3. After the spray, several passengers (our travel group) had severe sneezing attacks and running nose and sinusitis. One lady sneezed at least 50 times non-stop initially and continued to sneeze for the rest of the trip in the plane. Her sinus was swollen and painful for the rest of trip to Johannesburg. You are lucky she did not make a big deal and suffered silently. You may argue that WHO approved it. On the bottle, WHO approve for the use of Aircraft, not human in the aircraft. On August 15, 2016, I witnessed many passengers’ immune system were damaged – some reacted violently. 4. Please do not wait until someone has asthma attack and die in your aircraft due to allergy to the spray. 5. As a physician I prescribe Permethrin for Scabies treatment. Patients were told to use it on the skin for 8-10 hours and then wash off complete right away due to potential neurotoxicity, especially for young children. 6. My medical specialty is Integrative Medicine and Preventive Medicine. I feel I am obligated to bring this up to Department of Health of South Africa in order to prevent passengers being harmed, especially those who suffer from chemical / environmental allergies, rhinitis, sinusitis, asthma, COPD, skin disease, migraine, etc… just to name a few. 7. Suggestion and Solution: Passengers should all be off the plane, and escort to an area while aircraft is being re-fueled, cleaned and sprayed insides. This will make the cleaning crews more efficient for their cleaning work and less allergenic reactions, potential fatal, to passengers who suffer dust and / or insecticide spray allergies. This will reduce health hazard to passengers and workers. Thank you for being conscious about environmental safety issues. PS: One crew member, Imraan, is very conscientious. He came and showed his concern about symptoms one lady had from spray. He made SA airlines look better. One crew member was rude because he reluctant to give me one bottle of water for my husband who was sleeping at the time of the drink service. ."

Cons: "I got to the airport to find that my 19:15 flight had been delayed to 22:15. I hadn't received any notification from BA and still do not know the reason for the delay. The only other option available was for BA to put us on the 20:20 Kulula flight to Lanseria and then shuttle us from Lanseria to OR Tambo. It really is not pleasant to get back home so late on a week night and not even be given any warning or any reason for the huge delay."

I have special needs at my age and so booking early is how I typically make sure I can access the bathrooms easily without climbing over sleeping passengers. I picked flight for the price, but in the end I should have stuck with Delta, KLM and Air France and got the extra miles as with seat bookings and only one bag allowance, what I ended up paying did not make it worth it. Oh well, live and learn. Seats were tight, anyone bigger than me would have really struggled."

Cons: "The experience from the airport to the plane to Lome was beyond troubling. If ever you are flying internationally from NYC, never fly from Newark New Jersey. Nevertheless, upon boarding the Ethiopian Airline flight to Lome that was supposed to depart at 9:15 pm, the courtesy of the flight attendants was a bit mundane. My mother and I sat on the plane for about an hour after the time of the depart before inquiring why we have no moved and the doors were closed. The flight attendant responded with, "We shall be moving shortly." The air conditioner was barely on. My mother is battling stage 3 Cancer and is an older woman so, I feared for the safety of her health in such a condition. About 30 minutes passed, and we inquired again. This time with a different flight attendant and she said she just did not know what was going on. Other people on the plane began to panic in a sense as well because like my mother and I, they too had a connecting flight to catch. The pilot did not inform the passengers of what was occurring. So, at this point, all passengers on flight ET509 had been sitting on the plane for an hour and a half. By the time we were sitting on the plane for 2 HOURS with the doors closed the pilot finally informed us that they were waiting for some paperwork. He did not apologize or give more information as to why we were sitting on the plane so long, with practically no AC, and weren't informed about when we would be pulling off. About 10 minutes later, the plane began backing up while people were still standing because they were restless with the wait especially when we had a 10-hour flight ahead of us. The pilot then got on the loudspeaker stating that we will be pulling in the air shortly and for the flight attendants to be seated. The pilot did not apologize for the inconvenience or state how long the flight would be or what time we would land in Lome, Togo. Once we were in the air, there were many safety hazards administered by both the crew and pilot. The seat belt safety information was not given, the exit areas in case of emergency were not discussed, what to do in case of an emergency, where certain equipment would be in case of illness or an emergency, and we were still not informed about the cause of the 2 hours and 15-minute delay. My mother and I consistently checked the flight tracker and it did not show the duration of our flight, our location while flying, no flight information was displayed and as hard working paying passengers we should have had all of the information and not have to continuously ask to get a slight answer. Also, I am a vegan and they did not have food for me. But there was a flight attendant who gave me extra fruit which I greatly appreciated. The flight coming back to Newark was decent, going was the major issue. I pray we are accommodated for these great inconveniences. Because to have spent almost $3,000 and receive this type of treatment is both saddening and disturbing to me."

The LCD displays don't pivot so it's virtually impossible to view the entertainment when the occupant of the seat in front fully reclines ( a somewhat irritating issue on a long flight )"
