York Bed & Breakfasts

Pros: Helen made us feel very welcome and was friendly and chatty. As we'd been to York many times before we knew our way round pretty well but could see how helpful she was with other guests to help them make the most of their stay. The room was really clean and had everything we needed for our stay.

Pros: Excellent reception from the property owner, very informative and friendly; lovely breakfast

Cons: All good really; own bathroom would have been nice

Pros: Very friendly staff, and a superb breakfast. Made us feel very welcome, and left a lovely surprise for us as we were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary. A nice walk to the City Centre

Cons: The cooked breakfast was not the best. Egg yokes not good , very pale yokes Fresh fruit was nice. Attention to detail required. The room was a small double but very small ,1 wardrobe and nowhere to put shoes so these where all the floor which meant even less room to manoeuvre. I initially booked the b&b thinking it was the Heworth Court ,but that hotel has been changed into apartments, sadly this B&B needs better value for money.

Pros: The location was superb, 10 min walk to heart of city. Room was lovely and breakfast fabulous. Chris and Sue were so friendly and informative about their city and area

Pros: Sue and Chris' hospitality was outstanding. The rooms were well equipped (even with fans for the outstandingly warm days and nights) and very clean. Breakfast was an utter highlight. The guesthouse is very well located with an easy flat 0.9mile walk into the centre of York.

Cons: Nothing. It's very well located, clean and run by lovely friendly people for whom nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast was a treat every day.

Pros: Large comfortable room, bathroom with toiletries. Tea tray. Wonderful breakfast. 2 minutes from bus stop into York, 20 minute walk.

Pros: Very friendly. Good size room and breakfast very good. Just expensive but then again so was everything else we looked at for this weekend.

Pros: Breakfast was excellent cooked to perfection if anything there was too much had to ask for a smaller portion next morning

Pros: We loved our little cottage, it was perfect for our needs and a true delight. The owners were very friendly and the place was spotless. We didn't have breakfast but from what we heard we wished we had. Just loved it and location/ pub and transport was spot on..Definitely go back .

Cons: As I am awaiting a knee replacement a bannister would have been great all the way up the stairs, as it was I went on my hands and knees but this was my problem not theirs.

Pros: Everything was perfect! Right on a convenient bus line into town, terrific amenities and the owners we very helpful and lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Cons: in one bedroom there is no curtain for sky window we need to close it by using blanket

Cons: We stayed in downstairs room (not cottage). Very noisy in the night, people coming in late, walking around’ which could be heard loudly. Note that breakfast needs to be ordered the night before.

Cons: Unable to shower properly, a hand held shower in a bath. Head height restricted and difficult to access. Worst of all an extractor fan above the bath easily touchable by the user of the shower and also by shower water. I believe this type of arrangement is illegal under current H &S regulations.

Pros: - Quiet - Cosy - Free Parking - Free Wi-Fi

Cons: Apartment on top floor was very low and we had to watch for our heads all the time.

Pros: The cottages were in an ideal quaint location and the owner was very welcoming. Perfect for a family.

Cons: The cottage was a little tired in places and could do with a little TLC. It certainly didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves but a bit of attention would have a big difference.

Pros: Beautiful location and super friendly staff .

Cons: No phone signal or wifi ... cottage was tired looking and needed a good clean , it was surface clean but lots of cobwebs , dirty mirrors and taps .

Pros: Breakfast very good service occasionally slow.

Pros: The breakfast was very good and service was prompt. The ensuite shower was excellent. The hotel was well located to walk into York center

Cons: On arrival we were advised we had been upgraded. We were moved to the sister hotel next door. Our room was No4 in the Annex. I would not have classed this as an upgrade. The room was very small and would be more suited to a solo traveller. Only room for 1 chair. I felt more tired each morning due to poor sleep. Both the mattress and pillows could do with replacing. The netting on the window was grubby and torn. The Ensuite walls were covered in old condensation streaks and the ceiling had mildew patches. On leaving I raised this issue with owner, who advised that guests found the fan noisey so switched it off. I questioned the upgrade and was advised we were moved from 3 star to 4 star. I would find it difficult to grade this room more than 2. Our drinks tray did not get replenished and I had to go looking for milk at 9 at night. The next day the jug with dregs off milk was left sitting in room.

Pros: Very friendly, informative and professional staff. Made us feel very welcomed.

Pros: The breakfast was lacking in choice, not enough cereal choices, fresh fruit and yogurts, also croissants could have been an option, as I don't like cooked breakfasts, there was no marmalade either, which is a basic requirement. Day 2 of our stay, we had a note to go to the hotel next door for breakfast, which turned out a bonus, as this was a 4 star and the breakfast choice was better.

Cons: Breakfast, check in was also slow, as we were told everyone is on their break, so we had to wait about 5 minutes.

Pros: Breakfast staff were really friendly. Breakfast was good. Parking facilities good.

Cons: Room was pretty dire. Bathroom was dirty and we had to clean the surfaces before we used anything. Bedroom was not hovered on arrival and judging by the back of the plugs it's not been hovered for a while. Had to ask for it to he done. Stains on carpet and massive limescale build up on kettle. Staff non existent upon check in and check out. Had to get someone from hotel next door on check in and one of waitresses on check out.

Pros: Staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. Family room gave our family of four plenty of space. Breakfast was pretty decent too.

Cons: A little tired looking in places but no worse than expected for its rating. Was still pleasant and our family room was very spacious.

Cons: More constructive criticism but the wifi signal is non existent in the room at the bottom of the stairs.

Pros: Breakfast was good. That's all I can say
