Chateau St Gerlach - Valkenburg - Building
1
8,9 Excellent (1 672 reviews)
R3 476+
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Chateau St Gerlach in Valkenburg aan de Geul, you'll be in a regional park, within a 15-minute drive of Bonnefanten Museum and Basilica of Our Lady. Featured amenities include a 24-hour business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free valet parking is available onsite.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Place is stunning. Personnel is superb, very kind, very helpful and avaliable even on WhatsApp. Loved the atmosphere, the park with the beautiful statues. At night it looks like in a fairy tail. The bistrot de Liège is beautiful, atmospheric and dinne very good value for money. Delicious food, beautiful and tasteful.
Cons: For the price we were expecting a little bit more in term of luxury. People need to walk outside to reach the spa building. The changing room too small with only one shower. The swimming pool and sauna were overcrowded. There are only 10 relaxing beds (the hotel has more than 100 rooms! ). The alternative option is two (!) wooden chairs and 3 stone banks. Breakfast offered good variety but expensive and busy.
9,0 Excellent
Cons: Pool, sauna and steam bath very busy. No space (and not enough beds) for everyone. More importantly: two shouting and bad mannered kids made relaxation at the pool area impossible. If the property does not want to apply an “adult only” policy in the spa, then they should at least impose silence and appropriate behaviour, also to kids (and their parents).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Super location
Cons: Checkin
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, facilities, peacefulness, food, everything . Come and relax.
Cons: Nothing, loved it
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The castle is so pretty, rooms are spacious and clean, we really enjoyed. Two bedroom apartment is great for families.
Cons: Pool was way too cold, I was expecting for a warm pool to enjoy the spa, we could not stay inside.
7,5 Good
Pros: Really welcoming estate and the staff are superb. Lovely restaurants and breakfast, plus nice surroundings for walks and city/town trips.
Cons: For the price we were expecting a little bit more in term of luxury. The swimming pool and sauna were over crowded and busy with kids because it was half term. The room was ok but a little underwhelming for a deluxe room to be honest. Breakfast was busy and loud and we had to wait in line.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Staff and facilities were excellent
Cons: Bathroom with bath could do with some fixing/upgrade.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, a well-kept and suggestive chateau in the middle of the nature. Very nice to have a relaxing weekend away. Spa facilities very professional, although dressing area is a bit too small. Our room was very cosy and characteristic with wooden beams, and very quiet. Parking space big and easy to access. Breakfast very rich and tasteful. We did not get the chance to try the restaurant as it was overbooked for our entire stay, however the coffee bar offers a nice variety of specialities and drinks at lunch time. We had dinner in the city center of Valkenburg and it was pleasant. I recommend “La piazza” for an authentic italian dinner or “Pommes” for snack and fries at the feet of the castle ruins.
Cons: The access to kids to the swimming pool and spa facilities is almost as long as to adults so you don’t really get the chance to relax that much. They should probably foresee at least a second swimming pool for families if you want to guarantee peace to your guests looking for some relax and quietness.

Pros: Clean comfortable with friendly and helpful staff
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The room is just what you need for a weekend. Not too big but surely enough! Bed was SUPER comfortable and clean. So was the toilet , shower etc.
Cons: Only neg. point is the parking. It's on the other side of a busy road and you may not park on the hotel's side of the road (or you pay quite alot for it)
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely welcome from Bianca and Martin, with helpful tips on where to eat, where to have a drink, and where to take a beautiful walk in the countryside. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious and quiet. Breakfast was tasty and there was plenty of it! We visited over Easter so had their delicious Easter Bread for breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel Lela - Valkenburg - Building

R1 505+
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel in great location! Can get confusing since road is blocked bc of the Christmas market (have to go up and around!) Hostess was soooo sweet and breakfast was delish! Will def come back—we love this city!
Cons: Parking is confusing ONLY bc of road closures for Christmas market.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful breakfast and the hotel staff was very friendly.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality of the hostess and her farther was exceptional very welcoming . I emailed asking if I could park my motorcycle in the garage and they had made a space for my arrival and were ready when I arrived. The breakfast was lovely and well presented at a time of our choosing. The area feels very safe even late at night as does the whole of the beautiful city of Valkenburg. The hotel gave us discount vouchers for many attractions and restaurant's on arrival. For the price paid we were very satisfied with this Hotel and we will stay here again.
Cons: Nothing to really dislike given the good value of the hotel. The weather was very hot during our stay and the room was very warm but the hotel provided a fan which helped. This is not a criticism of the hotel
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, right in the middle of the city.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We come to Valkenburg every year for the Midsummer Prog Festival and it’s our second stay at the Hotel Lela. This time we had my in-laws with us. It really is a home from home. The location is perfect, a stone’s throw from the Openluchttheatre where the festival is held but away from the busy main streets. Denise is the most friendly and welcoming host, nothing is too much trouble! My father in law had bought a belt which was too loose and Denise’s father made a new hole for it. We had forgotten suncream and Denise brought us some to put on before we went out. Just a couple of examples of how she goes above and beyond to ensure the comfort of guests! Breakfast in the morning on the pretty terrace in front of the hotel was a particular highlight. Most of all, my in-laws loved it! We will be back next year.
Cons: Nothing not to love!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Localization near the city center. Friendly and helpful staff. Tipical family hotel.
Cons: The beds should have better (or more) pillows

Pros: Really close to all the shops and restaurants and it’s located in a 100 year old building near ruins. The breakfast was excellent!

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, confortable big bed. We were lucky to be accommodated in the renovated room
Cons: The vending machine only works with coins. A 2€ coin was counted as 0,5€. Once entered the needed amount, the machine didn't deliver the drink, but took all the money.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant place to relax as well as travel to local towns; Valkenburg, Aachen & Maastricht. We only had breakfast & lunch at the hotel which were both good.
Cons: Queuing for breakfast, room not big enough. Robes and slippers not included in rooms, had to hire these.
7,0 Good
Pros: The great variety of saunas and pools, the food and and the quality of the water! They also allow you to use the facilities on the day of the check out!!
Cons: I noticed that some people from the staff were very rude with us. We were not allowed to kiss and hold with my partner and were shouted 2 times being informed that we would be penalized in the event we would hold each other. This frustrated us as the point of a spa is to relax and not be yelled at!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The health spa and the room
5,8 Okay
Pros: The bathing areas and facilities were spot on. They were clean, lovely and warm and with some water fountains it meant you didn't have to search out refreshments.
Cons: The rooms felt run down with old furniture and the corridors had stains all over the carpets. The room and bathroom lacked a clean finish and areas were dirty (like the sliding bathroom door handle had dirt in edges) with black mould in areas which was off putting. The bathrobes had holes and were frayed at the edges. There weren't any complimentary soaps which for a spa hotel was a little bit of a surprise. The bar restaurant also closed really early in the evening so when we wanted room service the selection was incredibly limited. So unless you want to eat in the main restaurant plan ahead and order early. Generally the staff were friendly enough although when we tried to order some food to the room the staff member on room service told us to call someone else and hung up. I think the hotel will be renovating soon which it needs but we stayed for a couple of nights before going on honey moon and we weren't that impressed.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location. Great breakfast.
Cons: We had a medical emergency with our dog and had to leave a day early. Although we left very close to normal checkout time, and expected to pay something, we were required to pay the full amount. This is, mind you, on a very busy weekend when I am confidant they were easily able to re-let the room. This was disappointing and a failure of basic human consideration.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable room. The breakfast was delicious. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: We liked everything.
3,0 Mediocre
Cons: Extremely small room, very noisy
7,5 Good
Pros: lots of choices, could not stay longer to try lots more due to euro-tunnel transport on that morning
Cons: no lift for our room (number 1 :-(

9,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located right in the centre of the town, Christmas market was 30 meters away, all the restaurants were less than 5 minutes walk away. If you want to be in the heart of the things to do you can't go wrong with this hotel.
Cons: Be careful if you are using the trains, they can be cancelled and you don't have many options if this happens.
6,3 Good
Pros: Staff very friendly. Design of appartment simple, modern and light. Overall clean place. Right in the centre.
Cons: We stayed at an apartment at the 2nd floor. It was a hot time of the year so the night was uncomfortable, no aircon. Building is a bit worn down. Bit of mold between tiles in bathroom.
7,9 Good
Pros: Hotel is excellently located near the centre of town.
6,3 Good
Cons: You had to shower inside the bathtub.. but the ceiling was to low. I bumped my head to the ceiling if i was standing right up... and the shower also throws the water out of the bathtub so everything was becoming wet. Also i dont think the junior suite really may called a suite.. the carpet was dirty as wel.. there was a stain from cleaning products i quess.. so the carpet was white at that spot.. it didnt look clean because of that.
7,9 Good
Pros: Great hotel for a passing through place to crash.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is our third stay at the Hotel Botterweck. The hotel is very clean & comfortable and its location is excellent. We have always had a warm welcome from the staff, who are very helpful. We always stay the same time of the year as we enjoy the Christmas parade - this is amazing to see the children, of all ages, taking part - and also the caves Christmas markets. The history of the caves is extremely interesting and we are looking at visiting in the summer so that we can experience the tours and history of the caves.
Cons: All positive
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a beautiful building in a lovely location, including being near many excellent restaurants and historical sites. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fresh and with a great choice. The room was small but adequate and the bathroom excellent.
Cons: It was not at all easy to find and we had to park well away from the hotel either in a public car park or in a rather expensive private car park
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the friendly staff and the location of the hotel, being in town centre only a few metres away from lunch rooms and restaurants. Breakfast was good, the beds were very good and so was the TV, good size and perfect picture. The kitchen was small but just good enough for basic cooking etc. The view from our apartment no. 11 was very special. The hotel parking was safe and only a 5 minutes walk away from the hotel.
Cons: As our apartment no. 11 had no air conditioning we recommend the kitchen door to the external stairs to be fitted with a hook to the door post for ventilation. The apartment has 2 windows but only one could be opened for ventilation, the other one got stuck. There is no basket or tray for bottles and soap in the shower. The floor of the shower is super slippery. The basin could do with a shelf for the ladies to put there makeup things on.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast. Amazing staff. Great location.
Cons: Bathroom was smaller than anticipated. Fine for a one night stay but not so good for a longer stay.
