Tangier hotels near Grand Socco

Pros: I liked very much my stay in the hotel. it is clean, comfortable and quiet and the staff is amazing. A big thank you to Fatou, the Hotel manager who was welcoming me everyday with a huge smile.

Pros: Central location.Nice View,and close to City Center and restaurant.

Cons: I couldn't get the A/C to work. I selected cold (snowflake displayed) set it at 19C on Auto, the fan came on but my room didn't cool off any. Luckily the windows open and it's winter.

Pros: We were pleasantly surprised with the location - it is as good as the pictures look. The Marina is undergoing a transformation and if you want to be in the middle of things then this is a great hotel. Short walk up the hill to the new city, walk along the marina to the old city. Check-in was a breeze and the front desk staff were very helpful with taxi bookings. We had to travel to the Ferry terminal out of town for our on-wards travel and they helped us with these arrangements. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We were upgraded when we arrived. As we stayed on New Years Eve there was a dinner and show (band and dancers) on in the hotel which was an added touch. Lots of food, but we had to ask repeatedly for drinks. Short walk to the new marina which has a lot of choice for restaurants and on the other side is the beach.

Cons: Breakfast was busy, busy, busy and the service was really hit and miss, despite the wait staff trying their hardest. They seemed a little understaffed. We had to wait sometime for coffee, which is not what you want to experience in the morning. The exterior of the hotel does not match the interior.

Cons: Unprompted, they cancelled my reservation a at before I arrived.

Cons: Security at this hotel is poor. The only way to enter the building is to knock on the door and wait for the person at the front desk to answer it. However, the front desk attendants frequently abandoned their posts and were unavailable to answer the door in a timely manner. This made us feel incredibly unsafe, especially at night. Also, when we first arrived, the front desk attendant introduced us to a man (who claimed he worked at the hotel) so that he could give us a tour of the Kasbah and to show us to a pharmacy (we were in need of medicine). Instead, the man took us on a two hour trip to various shops where merchants tried to sell us things. The “guide” would not respond to our requests to get back to the hotel, and he had essentially trapped us in the middle of a Kasbah that we could not navigate on our own. At the end of the “tour” it was almost dark, we did not have a chance to go to an ATM or the pharmacy, and HE ASKED US FOR MONEY. When we refused, he said that he would come back tomorrow to collect. It became clear that he was certainly not an employee. I was aware that people in the Medina/Kasbah would approach us and ask if we wanted a tour, and I knew to refuse those offers. I did not expect for our own hotel to send us on a fake “tour,” however. This additionally made me feel unsafe and as though our best interests were not valued by the staff. When we asked for a taxi to a different hotel, they said that we would have to navigate the Kasbah ourselves (with our luggage at 22:30) in order to hail a taxi. After I persisted, the staff made a call to another person, who then told me that he would call his “friend” to pick us up. Out of options, we took him up on it. His “friend” arrived in a taxi with another man sitting in the passenger seat. Again, unsafe. After all of this, I was refused a refund (even a partial one).

Pros: Very helpful people and not a bad location

Cons: As ever unending staircases without banisters- very Moroccan - rather dangerous for the unstable amongst us My laptop was damaged I suspect whilst clearers were doing the room - no doubt not their fault but an expensive event

Pros: Location, beautiful building, nice common rooms , roof top areas to relax & where breakfast was served. The staff are kind, helpful & friendly. Knowledgeable about the Médina.

Cons: We were taxed at the end (not much) ?? then we determined we were overcharged & it took some doing but it did get resolved - so thank you Abdul. Be careful of guides that try to take you shopping for rugs or whatever they think you’d be interested - they don’t give up !

Pros: Really wonderful staff who took time to take us out and show us the local side of Tangier. The hotel was beautiful with great architectural detail and a fantastic view from the terrace.

Pros: Great central location, mostly friendly staff. Bed seemed hard at first, but the covers were cushy and I slept deeply there. Wifi worked great in the room and reception. Glad to have a bar in the hotel. It was the off season, so it was quiet in the bar. Room was big with a balcony and proper desk, and a hairdryer in the room.

Cons: Restaurant has very limited options for vegetarians and really fumbled my food allergy, though it was otherwise good and lovely. Wifi isn't working in the bar and restaurant for some reason, though in the bar the bartender connected me to the wifi next door. Smoking allowed in the bar (but that's the norm here).

Pros: Good location, kind staff.

Cons: There is no useable wifi, bad, not adjustable heating. All doors are stuck, every door opening and closing is audible in the room.

Pros: It's a charming hotel with lots of character. The location is perfect and we had a view of the port which was lovely.

Cons: The only room with a double bed was in the basement and had a terrible smell. My partner and I had to share a twin. Would recommend getting email confirmation of the room size and floor ahead of time.

Pros: I stay here whenever I visit Tangier. The location is great, the staff is professional and friendly, and the price is very reasonable.

Pros: The proximity to the Médina, helpful and friendly staff, great bartenders, excellent breakfast, quick availability of taxis, which wait right outside. The bartenders helped us to get a station out of France on on the bar so we could watch a playoff game of American football. There’s a woman (wish I could remember her name) who seems to be a manager and she is extremely helpful and speaks perfect English—everyone else tries hard .She helped us find trains to Marrakech. My son came down with the beginnings of an ear infection at 3:30 in the morning, and the clerk on duty at the desk offered to walk us to a clinic about a block away (Thankfully, the meds we brought along started to work so the emergency was averted). Overall a very good value. We will return in a few days near the end of our trip and if will feel just a little bit like going to a second, temporary home.

Cons: If I knew more in advance we would have requested a room not facing the street. It’s not anything the hotel has control over, but there’s a surprising amount of car honking down on the street during the night. The honking seemed rather random—couldn’t figure out who was being honked at at 2:00 am or why. There was also a bad sulphur-like smell coming from the plumbing in room 403 but if we kept the bathroom door closed we didn’t notice it very much. Everything was quite clean, though. If we stayed in that room again I’d go out and buy a pad of toilet-bowl freshener if the problem is not addressed. The staff seems so responsive that I think they would have addressed it if we had bothered to bring it to their attention.

Pros: The hotel is in a good location, friendly staff and basic but clean room. This is not a luxury hotel, but that is not what we paid for. There is good value in what we paid and I would be interested in returning.

Cons: The hotel is older and needs updating, but it is clean and has everything we were looking for.

Pros: In old reviews it says there were problems with the wifi. Not anymore. There is wifi available overall and it works pretty well. The furniture is old and maybe outdated, but the beds are very comfortable.
