So, this is a really old and interesting hotel. Built in the 1870s. It appears to be undergoing renovations, but is very much a working hotel. The best rooms are the balcony rooms on the 1st floor that overlook the harbor. We stayed in two of these and thought they were wonderful. Keep in mind that Churchill and Degas stayed in this hotel, along with other interesting people. If you care for that kind of connection, I would recommend it. Breakfast is excellent, and we very much enjoyed it. Overall, very glad we stayed here. It's also ideal for people coming in or going out by ferry. The terminal is 5-10 minutes away.
The hotel has no real "front door" (i.e. a place where a taxi can easily drop you off). This is because the hotel backs up to the Medina, and taxis don't go up there. Instead, taxis drop you off in the square in front. You must then drag your luggage up a ramp, or take the stairs (be warned, the stairs gets locked at night, but a guard on duty minds the entrance via the ramp). Just keep this in mind. The porter can probably help with bags if you call the front desk, but we dragged ours by ourselves.
Beautifull old Building .
A bit unmaintained
Location - the place itself is a historical place
There is no lift
Loved the history and vintage style, as well as the location and the view.
Getting lost finding breakfast!
If you are coming from the port it is very well located, just a short walk and visible from the terminal then from the hotel it's a short walk into the Medina. The staff were really lovely and helpful. I enjoyed the breakfast as well. Loved being able to see the sunset over the sea from my room.
It's a little on the expensive side and as others have said, the hotel is getting a little dilapidated. The door to my room was tricky to lock which as a solo female traveller was a bit of a concern.
