impressive lobby, nice library. outstanding location. spacious room.
breakfast ok but not great for international standards. restaurant closing too early (9 pm) on saturday evening.
The hotel location on the lake (and proximity to Suzhou Center) was outstanding as was the design of the hotel. I also found the staff helpful and courteous. The gardens were a serene and peaceful backdrop to the layout and motif of the hotel. Laundry service was fast.
The food at breakfast was rather ordinary. Also, many of the competing 5 star luxury hotels in China have bidet/smart toilets which this hotel lacked. The lighting switches were a little quirky. The quality of the TV signal was subpar for a luxury hotel.
The room suites were spacious, the shower was joyous, and but for the criticisms below, this was ultimately a picturesque 3 or, at its most generous, 4 star hotel. The staff were well meaning enough, but this really is a confused muddle of a hotel that does not hit the spot.
Frankly, though this hotel has the illusion of luxury, it falls far short of a five star experience. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were shown to a room which reeked of stale cigarettes, and external building works (renovation of the hotel) were audible within. Following an immediate complaint, we were relocated to a clean room with no construction noise. In terms of the rooms, we noticed the following: 1. The Bose sound system has a connection for iPhone5 and under - meaning it has not been updated for 5 years. 2. Bathroom Towels are not placed near the shower. 3. Only one pair of slippers was provided in the room. 4. We have stayed at 3* hotels where drinks and refreshments were provided gratis, and replenished daily. This is an inexpensive item for hotels - when will they learn that fleecing customers leaves a bitter taste? 5. Breakfast was not apparently included in the room rate. This is patently absurd if you have pretentious of luxury. 6. On our second day, having left the room for the day at 9.30am, upon returning at 4.30pm the room had still not yet been cleaned. Come on! This is hotels 101. In terms of facilities...: 1. The Swimming pool and gym are simply not of a quality associated with a local counsel facility, let alone a luxury hotel. Note that one can use the Crowne Plaza facilities, however. Additionally, the pool was not open in the evening. 2. The spa treatments were extortionate, and there is no way one can justifiably describe this as a “spa hotel”. Utter nonsense. 3. Bicycles were available for renting....at 80 RMB an hour. This is astonishingly shameful practice. How can they not be provided gratis? I have never had that at a hotel, particularly one based around a beautiful lake. 4. Drilling outside and scaffolding effectively ruined any experience to be had in common areas and the beautifully manicured gardens. What a waste. 5.
The interior design and spacious room. Very good breakfast... nice selection..
No Whisky and Gin Tonic after dinner in the bar
