Overview

On the Place de la Gare in the heart of the Alsatian capital, the Hotel des Vosges, BW Premier Collection, Strasbourg, France, has regained its nobility between contemporary notes and historical detail, a four-star that plunges back into the splendour of the 1930s while offering thoroughly modern comforts. Bathed in an Art Deco mood of noble materials and shimmering colour, its rooms wear a clean, casual style in pastel tones touched with black and brass, with a fitness space, a brasserie serving local-leaning cooking, a hidden bar, and three seminar rooms for events of up to a hundred and twenty. Strasbourg gathers its old town on a island ringed by the river Ill, crowned by the rose-stone Gothic cathedral with its astronomical clock and watched over by the timbered houses and canals of the tanners' quarter of La Petite France, with the glass parliament buildings of the European institutions a little beyond. Come December the squares fill with one of the oldest Christmas markets in Europe.
