We booked this hotel for one night. We had an evening wedding to attend in SF and needed a place to stay since we have a 5 month old. This was perfect for us! Such a perfect location right in the middle of downtown. Walgreens next door, it has breakfast and snacks. Our baby is super sensitive to new/unfamiliar places, but as soon as we entered our room she felt like home! Rooms are clean and cozy. Great place overall.
Location was handy to BART station and many shops, restaurants, sights etc. Easy check in.
Noisy as the windows were possibly not double glazed. Could hear street noise and drainpipe dripping
Location is amazing, right at the edge of union square. It's a small boutique style hotel, basic amenities but I was there for the location more than anything. Check-in very easy, and felt secure with the fob for the front door after hours. Leaflet with the details was great idea also !
There is heating in the room which you can turn off and only a fan which I'm sure in the summer is hard to control the room temperature. The duvet was very warm also! The instructions on how to switch from the bath to the shower were impossible to follow and I had to ask the cleaner the next morning how to use it. Perhaps a visual diagram would be better!
It's a great value for the money and the staff is really nice the evening sat anyways. The daytime staff is a bunch are busy bodies who have way too much time on their hands worrying about somebody who willed in their only transportation a bicycle.
They are not accommodating to their guest needs. A friend of mine head rented 2 rooms there for months ago and apparently had brought the bicycle into the building which they don't allow. They had never told S in the beginning that you can't have a bicycle but anyhow they told my friend not to come back I had no idea it was extended to me so when I extended my stay for 3 days and thought I had a Room they forced me to lead the hotel. I had never been asked to leave the hotel.
location is very good. shops around open on Sunday.
not clean, horrible noises during the night from the ventilation system, neighbouring room, and the old fridges, the heater was leaking water, too expensive for the value, no breakfast. I had to change the room for 4 nights of stay...
The Herbert Hotel is a historic property in San Francisco’s famous Union Square area. This means that travelers are tucked right into the heart of the city and within walking distance from remarkable shopping and dining areas. Yet, they are also steps from the San Francisco Cable Car lines, the Geary Theatre, a BART station, San Francisco City Hall, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, Ghirardelli Street, and more. The Golden Gate Bridge is less than five miles away, the Oakland and San Francisco International Airports are within 12 miles, too. It is an ideal choice for those who want to enjoy lots of walking, cable car riding, and exploration, but it is also an ideal choice for business travelers since it is an easy commute to the CBD, as well.
While those who are visiting may wish to spend most of their time out exploring the charms of San Francisco and its environs, the hotel also has a lot to offer right on the premises. There is free Wi-Fi throughout, business services and meeting or banquet facilities, shuttle services, and 24-hour front desk service.
A boutique-sized hotel, there are 99 rooms throughout and each is beautifully designed and decorated in a modern and clean aesthetic. Guests will love the old world feel of the hardwood floors, high ceilings, brick walls and excellent views from each of the seven floors. All rooms feature queen beds and luxury linens, climate controls, premium entertainment systems with cable channels, beverage stations, and large private baths stocked with signature toiletries and linens.
The Herbert Hotel is a historic structure with loads of good looks and lots of premium amenities, and with its city center location, it is a good choice for all.
