Everything. Firstly, the staff were so friendly and always smiling. Secondly the breakfast was excellent and lastly the authentic feel of the courtyards and colonial and indigenous culture/art.
My husband and I loved that this hotel was only a few blocks from the Plaza Grande of old town. We enjoyed coffee in the plaza, walked to tourist sites, and checked out traditional handicraft stores - all within a mile on foot. The numerous pedestrianize streets in the vicinity made strolling along people-watching quite enjoyable. I especially want to compliment Gabriela, one of the day time receptionists for Patio Andaluz, for her unfailingly pleasant assistance. She was also the one who answered questions via email for me ahead of time. Her written and spoken English are excellent and her manner is most gracious. Our duplex room was quite large with the sleeping area and bathroom in a loft. The downstairs sitting area was comfortable. Sitting areas in other parts of the hotel were also pleasant for visiting with friends. (We met friends at the hotel prior to departing for the Galapagos.)
The restaurant seemed over-priced. We walked to nearby restaurants including an outstanding one called the Theatrum that offered a more varied selection of wines than most anywhere else in the old town. The internet worked perfectly well but it was difficult to reach plugs hidden behind furniture. In general the wiring was old. I should mention that the building is around 500 years old so the ambiance is “historical” in both a mostly good way. It has not been overly modernized. The night receptionist who checked us in at 12:30 am was glum. We were tired and he did not offer much in the way of welcome.
Excellent location. Good restaurant. Nice staff.
Rooms are a bit old. I would not rate it as 5 star hotel. Value for money pricy.
Breakfast was delicious but expensive at $17 per person. Location was excellent - within walking distance of central plaza and shops
It would be great if there was an informed short tour of the hotel as the building is very historical and as tourists we are interested in the history and artefacts there.
Great people working there and nice, clean rooms
Breakfast should be improved. Fruit and cereal was fine but the hot options very disappointing.
