Beautiful rooms, friendly staff. Love May Bailey's.
David on reception was great at his job, apart from that extremely disappointed
Having stayed here twice before I had fond memories of The old Dauphine Hotel about twenty years ago. I actually stayed here with my now husband when we first started to go out with each other. With this in mind and knowing we were going to New Orleans I contacted the hotel in advance in July for a December booking, requesting the same room that we stayed in way back when. The hotel came back to me and said that there would be an upgrade charge to book that room. Sentimental old me agreed that this would be alright. On arrival we didn't get the room I wanted and thought I was going to get - very, very disappointing. The hotel was fully booked and so nothing could be done to rectify this. We were given a room on the second floor overlooking the pool area, apparently also an upgrade room, I didn't feel it was. Please look at the photos. Everything about the room, the facilities, generally everything was tired and dirty. The bar area had an unpleasant smell, the pool looked in need of upgrade. Fixtures and fittings everywhere were shabby. The area outside the hotel was run down and there was a disused shop doorway just down from the hotel that tramps were using as a toilet. It was very unpleasant and obviously was never cleaned, you had to pass it to get to the areas that you wanted to. I paid over £200 a night to stay in this delightful place!! Certainly not the same as it used to be, and that didn't even include breakfast. I've heard that the breakfast is lacking though in every way from other reviews, but for the money paid it would have been informative to find out. Truly gone downhill, American customer value and service is definitely a thing of the past.
Excellent location. You can walk to restaurants and bars in the French Quarter. Breakfast was very good and the staff were always helpful. Parking is available at the hotel. The room was spacious. Overall this was a good value.
Staff were absolutely great, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel had lots of character, very comfortable and clean. The location was A1. Couldn't have been much better. We will definitely be returning to this hotel in the very near future.
The breakfast was surprisingly good and the staff were very gracious--it was the property--in particular the rooms--that were disappointing.
The rooms were dark, damp, and dirty. The online images made the rooms appear as if they would be on a central inner balcony around the pool when instead they were on the street. The location of the property was great but the street was very very loud--even if you were out all night drinking (which we weren't). The bathroom was disgusting--no hot water and water dripping out of the ceiling light fixture, which was about to fall out. The sink had mold all around the inner lip. Ceiling fan looked like it hadn't been dusted in years. I have stayed in NOLA many times and this was the grossest, loudest room I've ever been in. There were few lights in the room and those that were there were half functional so it was dark, dank, and dirty. We were scared to take off our shoes & socks.
