Pros: Great place right in Santa Elena near everything. Very helpful staff and wonderful breakfast
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great little place in a really good location, close to lots of shops & restaurants. Lovely breakfast, served quickly which was great as had activities to go to early. Friendly & helpful staff.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Close to Santa Elena center with a very nice and helpful staff.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: - shower was really good, warm an strong shower - the little dog is so cute - very friendly staff, very helpful and polite - breakfast was ok - very close to center
Cons: - nothing
6,7 Good
Pros: Really nice staff. Decent, clean rooms. Adequate breakfast. Room balconies look out directly onto a busy construction materials business; behind that is a busier three-way intersection with a near-constant procession of cars, loud motorcycles and buses; in the distance sections of the cloud forest are visible. On the positive side, there is good access to restaurants, markets, a handy ATM, and the bus to the Monteverde cloud forest is across the street. Eddie speaks great English and is very helpful. We simply would have preferred a more tranquil setting.
Cons: Location in relation to traffic and noise.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Eddy was very helpful. Staff were excellent, and location was great. In a community built on a mountain, it is good to be a short walk from grocery store and bus stop. Room was great. Very windy town.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed staying here. The place was close to town, and the owner was friendly and helpful.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely people, central location, so easy to get places. Great recommendation of where to eat dinner- d' Tomas.
Cons: The room was nice & everything's very clean. Breakfast was delicious, as well. It is located right on a fairly busy road, with construction happening next door, so there was a lot of noise. However, the people running it were fabulous! I left a shirt behind & they laundered it & got it back to me (across Lake Arenal!!) the next day! Amazingly helpful!!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in a great position in monteverde with fantastic views. Staff were excellent, room was spacious and comfortable and the grounds are beautiful. Would have stayed longer if we could have.
Cons: Only negative we could find was no black out blinds in the bedroom, but not really a big deal!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view from the hotel bar, lovely room and comfy bed. Friendly staff. Lovely jacuzzi.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel with lots of character. Enjoyed complementary coffee every day on the balcony in the juice bar and cocktails watching the sun set on the balcony of the bar and restaurant.
Cons: Room became very noisy at night because of the wind.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Farm to Table restaurant is great. Though would be nice to include a breakfast at least. Got a great B&B cabin feel, walk out to the balcony and teleport into Costa Rica's famous cloud forest. Get up early in the morning and catch all the birds waking up and do what they do best.
Cons: Cleaning could be a bit more meticulous. It's nice place for a romantic spot. Thought it is on the higher spectrum of price point for attempting to maintain the boutique aspect. Being it the off-season there is some extra's to be longing for. I'm glad I didn't run into any of the "snobs" this place could possibly attract. Though always go in with minimal expectation and go with your gut feeling. Pura Vida!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning hotel with a breathtaking view at sunset, comfortable and elegant large room, nice hot tub, juice bar and yoga class as a bonus. Perfect location to visit the reserves. We enjoyed the restaurant after long days hiking.
Cons: Nothing!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location was great . View from the room is outstanding.
Cons: Not much to do on the property itself ( for my liking), I am sure whoever wanted to just stay , relax and do nothing - will find this hotel a perfect place .

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was not self service and you chose four items from a menu. Very good. We also had an evening meal which was also very good. Chalet was as expected and was good for a few nights. Very quiet at night.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The cabins were not luxurious, but were clean and comfortable with some amenities like fresh coffee. The grounds were beautiful with wonderful hiking trails. The breakfast was absolutely delicious!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Very well maintained property with expansive grounds and opportunities to explore. We saw a troupe of howler monkeys on one of the trails! Also, a great made to order breakfast was included with stay. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Cons: A bit of a hike to town - we were glad to have a car.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Rustic and comfortable lodge-type accommodation. You are in the middle of the Cloud Forest up here, just what we expected. Lots of wildlife, monkeys in the fruit trees around the property! Staff friendly and helpful, food and drinks were excellent. The enclosed porch which looks over the Cloud forest is amazing, sat out there and had drinks and played games while we watched a crazy sunset. Did NOT want to leave!
Cons: Nothing not to like, just disappointed that the outdoor part of the porch is currently closed b/c it is unsafe and needs to be re-built. That would not be a deal-breaker for us though, as the view is the same from the enclosed porch.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location was great quiet, abundance of wild life, ambience, walking trails
Cons: Nothing
6,5 Good
Pros: Beautiful garden. Clean and comfortable room despite the humidity.
Cons: No insolation btw cabins, awaken everyday at 6am by our neighbours. Very basic breakfast. Front desk staff very cold and not offering any help or suggestion for the region.
9,1 Excellent
Pros: Food, area, amenities were great.
Cons: Shower head was crazy, shower did not drain, no tv in room. Gustav was a great waiter and day front desk was wonderful. Night front desk and night waitress lacked personality.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good but the toasts were very hard. The coffee was excellent! The location was perfect. Lovely grounds and the choices for the supper menu were excellent.
Cons: Very cold in the room. A heater would be beneficial. It was only 19 Celsius and with the high winds it was very cold in the room. We hardly slept.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location and the views.
Cons: Our dinner at the restaurant was just ok.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff. Clean and beautiful.
Cons: Breakfast is simple and localized. More international food is better.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and beautiful surroundings. The property was clean and well maintained.
Cons: They want you to throw TP in the trash instead of the toilet. That took a little getting used to.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel and facilities were great, but the weather was very windy, we were not we prepared for it! So we couldn’t enjoy the hotel, we had to spend the whole time in the room.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: This was a last minute booking for us, when a previous reservation did not meet our expectations. To our luck, we found the garden suite at Poco a Poco on our first night in Costa Roca after a long day of travelling from NYC. Having our own private garden with a private hot tub was a blessing. The room was comfortable with good AC and a comfy bed. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Also, the property's patio is a lovely setting to watch the sunset.
Cons: The hotel facilities are lovely and modern, but the furniture in the room was a bot dated an worn (although still comfy). The breakfast included was really only fruit and bland granola. After the first day we did not bother with the hotel breakfast and went across the street to the Choco Café for a heartier meal to start the day.
7,0 Good
Pros: Great breakfast, friendly staff, good location
Cons: Noisy room from road noise and restaurant, desk said it would be quiet after nine but it wasn’t-did not sleep well
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The pool, hot tub setting. Great grounds!
Cons: The rooms are outdated. Just the bedroom area and furniture. Bathrooms are spotless. Great property to enjoy. Safe in room did not work.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Wonderful staff (who spoke very good English). Delicious breakfast. Easy walk to Santa Elena center and short drive to Monteverde. Tours easily pick up from the hotel too.
Cons: Parking was a bit tight.

7,5 Good
Pros: Location Location Location. Since we had a rental car we weren’t worried about finding places to eat but we wanted to be within walking distance of the trails. Entrance is about 10 minute walk (uphill) from the hotel. Rooms are large and clean.
Cons: Our room smelled like disinfectant a lot. Windows open for a few hours took care of that. Although there was hot water, it took about ten minutes for the shower water to warm up and even then it was just on this side of warm. The water pressure barely adequate, and the shower drain was too slow and water leaked out of shower enclosure. A kettle in the room with tea and coffee would be nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was clean. All staff were very friendly and kind and very helpful. It was an excellent location with the most incredible view.
7,0 Good
Cons: The menu for dinner and lunch was limited. 2 or 3 meals was more than enough before we needed to go elsewhere for a meal.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the location. It was close to the places we wanted to visit. The room was big and we had a veranda to sit on. The restaurant had a nice menu. There was breakfast included which is one of the reasons that we chose this place.
Cons: We anticipated a view, but we were on the ground floor ( downstairs from the check in desk) and we could only see the grass and the bushes and trees that were planted on the property. The breakfast wasn't as nice as I had anticipated.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location near the entrance of the park, comfortable rooms, and splendid public spaces. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel when visiting Monte Verde cloud forest.
Cons: The toilet and shower didn't drain well.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Only one night here to visit the Cloud Forest, Very clean, comfortable hotel with beautiful bedrooms, all with a view.
Cons: Hotel is a long way from town and the food in the on-site restaurant was very limited.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The lodge is lovely, beautifully designed with lots of native wood, tiles, excellent beds and linens. Our room overlooked a pretty garden and the forest. We also had an "atrium," a porch-like space with big windows. They provided a full breakfast with homemade pastries and baked breads, waffles, fresh fruit and yogurt, and the best eggs I have ever had in my life. The breakfast room was gorgeous, spacious, and overlooked the pretty grass and rainforest. The front desk staff was extremely helpful in offering suggestions for activities, and then in setting them up for us. The restaurant was outstanding - we ate there 3 of the 4 nights of our stay! And the bar was dark, elegant, classy and offered a great happy hour every day with interesting and delicious drinks. The best bartender and waiter was Mauricio - friendly, and a real pro. We loved the Trapp Family Lodge and would stay here again and again.
Cons: The only thing that could have been better is that there wasn't enough clothes storage - no place to hang our clothes and minimal drawer space.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and price, including a basic breakfast. Very comfortable stay.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location with views from the balcony.
Cons: Breakfast is not very exciting but serviceable.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Manfred in the office was terrific. Booked us a guide for Monteverde and was efficient checking us in. Breakfast was good.
Cons: Room was a little dark, locking the patio door was tricky and the bathroom was poorly appointed.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are very friendly and very helpful with all questions. Offer same day laundry service. The rooms are spacious. Great location, short walk to all restaurants. Shower water was hot and had good pressure but the sliding shower door is in need of repair. We loved this property because the staff were so helpful. They even call and arrange tours for you.

Pros: We stayed in two rooms. One for my son and one for us. Beautifully decorated spacious rooms with tasteful furnishings and breathtaking view from the back of the room. You can see the mountains, two water falls from our room. Individually cooked breakfast. Warm and friendly hostess. definitely great value.
Cons: Only small thing is that it is located right off route 606. If you are a light sleeper, you May hear the cars into midnight.

Pros: Everything from the service, very nice and willing to help with excursions, to the rooms to the fabulous breakfast. Super good value. No complain.
Cons: No complains
7,0 Good
Pros: The breakfast was fine, although there were no choices - just whatever they were offering. Regarding the location, we didn't realize that it was on the main highway going into town, so there was quite a bit of traffic noise.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The magnificent view from the bed
Cons: The limited ability of the land lady
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing. This place has no customer service and no Integrity whatsoever.
Cons: 5 times in CR and this was our only disappointment! The woman at the front desk didnt speak any English but she told us that she worked in the hotel industry in USA for 20+ years in Mississippi or something like that. And she didn't pick up any English? What a con!! When I emailed before our arrival, a gentleman said no AC but when we checked in we asked again. The woman said yes they have air!! So I was very excited. We go to the room and I asked her where the air conditioning is. She points to the ceiling fan. Again. Don't tell me she doesn't know the words "air conditioning" especially working at a hotel in the south!! It was VERY hot in the room. We called the manager on the phone and told her that we cannot check in and stay there b/c of heat. She said just to stay for one night and try it. I told her no because I have fibromyalgia. I explained that I need a good sleep or my pain is Amplified. She proceeded to tell me about my syndrome. Quite incorrectly I might add. She said that fibromyalgia is arthritis and it doesn't have anything at all to do with your quality of sleep. I tried educating her and we just kept arguing. I told her we would try it for one night. The lady told us to open the windows. The windows were maybe about 1/10th of the entire window but we opened them and went out to eat. We came back and the room was full of insects! All kinds! And there was some type of reptile poop on the bathroom floor now. Definitely could have been a snake. I Googled it. Also, could not sit on toilet properly bc it was pushed up to shower door and all the rooms are like 10ft from the main road!! LOUD! We called and spoke to a very rude man. He said he would not give our money back and challenged me to go and leave him a bad review - that he didn't care! I do not believe he is a native costa rican b/c they are not like this. We left after the one night and never got our $$ back for the other 2.

9,1 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful! The view is amazing especially from the upper buildings where you can see all the way over the mountains to the the gulf and to guanacoste in the distance. The rooms were very nice and very comfortable beds and very clean. They have their own hiking trails at the top and it was wonderful to hike at our leisure through the cloud forest. They have their own zip line but we did not try it, but it seemed a nice quiet option compared to others. We saw lots of wildlife right there at the lobby and the dinner at the restraint was amazing! We talked about it the rest of our trip! And service in the restaraunt combined with the atmosphere definitely makes it a fine dining experience. The hotel is also a nice distance from town. The amenities are very nice. We would consider staying here again.
Cons: The only negatives to this hotel were actually minor ones that would have just made it a more perfect experience overall. The fact that it is in such a large area they use shuttles to take you from one location to another. It is extremely steep and long to walk/hike especially to upper buildings with the beautiful view, so the shuttle is almost mandatory unless you are in excellent shape. They are more than happy to shuttle and most times are timely except there were a couple of times that we needed to wait up to 15 minutes for the shuttle. Otherwise the shuttle service was very good. The breakfast buffet was very nice but the view from the big beautiful window is the staff parking lot and bushes. It was a shame it didn't have a view, but I suppose you can't always have the exceptional view. The family pool/workout area was very nice and under an open canopy. The pool was a somewhat comfortable temperature but it was very cold with the night mountain air blowing in and there was no hot tub which could have made it a nicer experience.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The view is amazing, room was beautiful with vaulted ceilings; the view from anywhere on the property is amazing; staff was friendly, food was good- no complaints- the resort is on a steep hillside, it's really not an issue ( 40 second drive from the bottom or 3-5 min slow walk to our room 3/4 of the way up the property) -shower is like niagra falls and as hot as you can stand- my wife had no complaints and that is amazing - two thumbs up from Santa barbara ca.
Cons: The Grass was too green, too many rainbows in the distance , sky was too blue, Saw too much ocean From our deck/ lanai :) Our girls had too much fun ( 4 and 7 ) - the room was too big Don't hesitate, go. I've stayed in some pretty nice places and this one won't disappoint, despite a few reviews I read before going ( I'm still spoiled living in Santa barbara ca and have some reasonable expectations, my wife on the other hand sets the bar very high and had no complaints which was shocking- even she was shocked when she said it )
5,0 Okay
Pros: Check in and check out is fast. There is a one hour and half zip line operated by the hotel. Tree top. Other than those, I do not see much about this hotel.
Cons: The room is large but uncomfortable. Two window glass are broken. That was a very windy night. On the mountain it was very cold when wind blow all the time into the room through the broken window. Wind whistle through the holes all made it worse. During our stay, there was no internet. Called reception and the staff was not bothered to explain in detail but only said that the line was down and it was out of their control. I am not sure if line was down night before, how come it was still not fixed next day? Seems nobody care about it. This hotel charged a lot but did not deliver what it charged for. It seems not a good idea to go back and stay there again. Not recommend.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful grounds that offer hiking trails, guided night hikes, hummingbird garden, zip lines and personal booking service for any attraction in the area.
Cons: Not a thing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views, excellent staff, awesome amenities
6,7 Good
Pros: Very beautiful property
Cons: We never felt as though we were welcomed there by a friendly helpful staff. They did not offer to carry our bags, they did not inform us of specials or other interesting things to do, and in essence there was no warm, personal touch. Coming from La Fortuna Where everyone was so kind and friendly, it felt a little cold and off putting. I would not stay there again even though the grounds were magnificent.
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: Staff super helpful. Nice views.
Cons: WiFi is abysmal throughout hotel. Hotel room stunk. Woke up by workman on property at 8am Sunday morning. Not value for money. Everything in hotel is very far away. Poor signage to rooms.
8,0 Excellent
Cons: Problem with handicap parking from check in. Could not get to room for more than half hour due to tour bus blocking lot. Reception said they checked in before you. Nearly every time we tried to come or go a bus was in the way.
7,1 Good
Pros: The views were fabulous and the setting is gorgeous.
Cons: Staff indifferent bordering on fed up. No attention to detail. Lacks warmth. It felt like it just processes tour groups and no longer cares about hospitality and making guests stay memorable in a good way. Check your bill overcharged for items not received.
4,2 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Old, no decoration, no equipment in the room not even a glass in the bathroom...no amenities at all, not even WiFi in the rooms
1,0 Poor
Pros: Not much, low quality hotel
Cons: No WiFi in the rooms! Rooms were drafty and noisy. Ants in the room. Horrible fluorescent lighting! No closet, or draws, no bedside lights, no Kleenex in the room. Entryway cold and dark. Paper thin walls, windows rattle in the wind. Room came with breakfast but you have to jostle with loads of tour bus people to get to buffet. Terrible hotel. Rooms have not heat or AC. Room decor stark, furniture is old
7,1 Good
Pros: Perfect location
Cons: Very weak lamps in the room

Cons: staff was nice. very nice landscaping.

Pros: Gorgeous property. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Especially Mario At the front desk, helped us book tours and activities that we really enjoyed.
Cons: The walk into town is a little long but it is totally do able- would still definitely stay here again

Pros: Location
Cons: Poor wifi
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and the attendants were excellent
Cons: Internet access wasn't the best, probably because of the windy weather
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing, lots of varieties and great service. It also had different set of breads and cakes each day which was fantastic if you want to try different things. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Great service for information and to book tours directly from reception.
Cons: It is understandable that the access to rooms are not that easy as the property is spread out and it obviously a very hilly area so roads and pathways are winding. If you have to walk you have to go across other buildings and rooms.
6,0 Good
Pros: I liked the sunset views from the property, the garden, breakfast and the breakfast personell.
Cons: I did not like the noise of the construction next to my room and the clogged shower. Reception gives minimum information about anything. If you arrive in the evening you will for sure be lost. Parking is devided over four different levels with different road entries. Confusing and frustrating.

Pros: Location - Right close to a major road. Staff tried to be friendly.
Cons: The facility is difficult to access as it is up a small hill/unpaved road/no lights. No signs at the main roads to even point to the facility. Google/Waze gets you to the main road and you have no way to finding the place without asking somebody. Rooms were dingy at best with lot of noise coming in. Bathroom did not even have basic soaps/shampoo etc. Restaurant did not serve good breakfast (only basic stuff - coffee/bread/fruits). Came back one day and had to request for cleaning the room as they 'forgot'. Paid for laundry using CCard on day 2, but apparently they still needed me to provide proof when checking out on day 3 (guy came running after me to parking lot saying that i need to show him the CCard receipt).
5,4 Okay
Cons: Shower did not work. Water from tap in sink was only cold.
4,6 Okay
Pros: There's air conditioning. Breakfast was simple, yet pleasant. The morning staff were very friendly.
Cons: The shower flooded and did not drain. The lighting in the entire room was horrible. You can hardly see at night. The wi-fi did not work in the rooms or the reception area. When I asked for help to fix it, reception tried, but couldn't fix it. Wi-fi was important because we needed to book the remainder of our trip. Location is hidden and not within walking distance of the town (but if you have your 4wheel drive vehicle, it is a short drive to town). The refrigerator was so cold it froze my water and food overnight.

Pros: Stunning hotel with a breathtaking view at sunset, comfortable and elegant large room, nice hot tub, juice bar and yoga class as a bonus. Perfect location to visit the reserves. We enjoyed the restaurant after long days hiking.
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: The location was great . View from the room is outstanding.
Cons: Not much to do on the property itself ( for my liking), I am sure whoever wanted to just stay , relax and do nothing - will find this hotel a perfect place .

6,7 Good
Pros: Really nice staff.

7,5 Good
Pros: Location Location Location.
