Hotel Indigo Venice - Sant'elena - Venice - Building

9,3 Excellent (268 reviews)

Overview Reviews
The tranquil neighbourhood. Venice is a fairy-tale of a city with palaces, cathedrals and museums to take your breath away. In our neighbourhood you can get your breath back again. It’s a place where you can escape the noise and bustle, experience genuine local life, and feel refreshed. This is a neighbourhood of true tranquillity. At the heart of the neighbourhood is Hotel Indigo® Venice - Sant'Elena, a converted 1930s monastery where a peaceful inner sanctuary offers further respite from the bustle. Our neighbours include the elegant red-brick Gothic church of Sant’Elena, built by Augustinian monks in the 11th century and known for its lofty landmark belltower.

Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: No gym and pool
9,7 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was nice, clean, comfortable even with four people in the room. The courtyard was attractive, and we enjoyed evening drinks and morning breakfast there. Breakfast was a delight with a wide range of options!
Cons: Location from venice's sites originally felt far, but a water taxi day pass reduced the amount of walking we needed to do. A plus was that the hotel put us close to Lido and its beaches, so we got some time in the sun as well!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and stylish, homey vibes and friendly staff!
5,0 Okay
Pros: The room was clean as expected. Nothing exceptional about this hotel to mention. location was a little remote from the main square, which was ok. It was a pleasant walk thru the quaint and quiet residential area.
Cons: The room was not as depicted in the online photos. The verbal representation of the room was exaggerated. The staff continuously barraged us to purchase the Breakfast inclusion. Which I understood to already have been included when we bought online.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: A ‘new’ IHG hotel on the south side of Venice. As a hotel - fabulous. Being in Sant Elena and, therefore, above the floods on dry ground - priceless.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location, the interior design, the high standards of cleanliness, the fabulously friendly and efficient staff.
Cons: The espresso was hit and miss (tasted like a short americano on occasions)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice amenities, breakfast, and location for transportation needs.
Cons: Restaurant options are limited.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location - quiet, lovely, green neighborhood a 2 minute walk to the vaporetto stop. Beautiful courtyard with lovely lounge furniture. Well staffed. Rooms well designed and attractive. All the modern conveniences. Nice cafe around the corner.
Cons: Breakfast at 9 euro could have been better, very ordinary, nothing special.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very large and nice for the price. The hotel is located a little over a mile from the Piazza San Marco which was totally feasible because you can walk along the water. We had a 1 year old in tow and it wasn't an issue for us. It was actually nice to be in a quiet area in the evenings. There were also a few parks near by which was great to allow our little one to run and play.
Cons: The restaurant staff was friendly but the concierge and check-in staff were not so friendly or approachable as is to be expected from a person holding such position.
4,0 Okay
Pros: The staff was nice enough to say that they will take care of the complains and apologized. The breakfast had variety of food.
Cons: The staff was nice enough to say that they will take care of the complains and apologized but it wasn't taken care of after all.
7,7 Good
Pros: Hotel was located out of the city centre of Venice which is away from the noise, and the room is nice roomy. We arrive very late on the day and the staff assist us on how to get to the hotel.
Cons: The hotel is about 20 mins walk from St. Marco Square and 1 hr by ferry to Piazza Roma, therefore have to plan the time for travelling.
6,0 Good
Cons: Location. It is a bit far from the city centre and major attractions but still within walking distance.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness, food, staff, bed, information source, location
8,0 Excellent
Pros: hotel was great in quiet location and close to boat stop so not far to carry any luggage. I did notice alot of people walking round venice with bags looking lost so great for finding the hotel
6,4 Good
Pros: very peaceful,clean too
Cons: very quiet in the bar in evenings, could not enjoy night in hotel, would have to venture out.could have been more of a choice i food for breakfast
6,0 Good
Pros: It had large modern rooms in a quieter area of Venice with some lovely green space but still close enough to the tourist attractions of Venice.
Cons:
7,6 Good
Pros: The hotel was of a high modern standard. The rooms were well equipped although not large , were fine - although the views from the windows were not worth opening the shutters. The breakfast was excellent. The hotel is in a quite location around 15-20 minutes pleasant walk from St Marks Sq. A water bus stops just 2 mins walk from the hotel. (and goes to the Lido and all the Islands, as well as back to the Grand Canal in the other direction).
Cons: The hotel did not have much "Venice" character. The pigeons in the courtyard were a real nuisance. They even landed on the tables and (although the staff cleaned up very quickly ) droppings were regular on the outside furniture.
4,4 Okay
Pros: Location was good, rooms and bathrooms were good
Cons: The reception staff were grumpy
6,0 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel is fabulous, away from the craziness of the crowds and the nearby park is terrific, especially for kids.
Cons:

8,0 Excellent
Pros: All was fine except there was a nasty smell of burning rubbish outside the hotel windows during the night. Although we were "upgraded", the upgraded rooms were small, too modern and lacked the style of the rooms in the hotel's original building.
Cons: More characterful rooms and no nasty smells of burning overnight.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding experience, amazing hotel, lovely staff, perfect rooms, great breakfast, great location. Very recommended!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms and location were perfect so easy to get to anything you want to see and do.

9,7 Excellent
Pros: Situated in a more residential part of town - but only 10 - 15 min walk to all main attractions this hotel was awesome. Staff were ridiculously friendly. Place is like a 5 star hotel. Completely renovated - all high tech switches in the rooms. Extremely cheap for what you get. Will be only place I stay in Venice from now on!
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service by very professional staff who were extremely helpful with all our needs. We had special religious needs on Saturday and the staff was very cooperative. The atmosphere was very special in this boutique hotel in Cannareggio area of Venice on the canal. Absolutely peaceful and serene atmosphere that made us forget all everyday concerns. We highly recommend staying here and we will definitely stay here again this summer when we return to visit Venice.

Cons: Nothing
9,4 Excellent
Pros: My husband and I recently stayed at the Ai More d'Oriente for 4 days and 3 nights in December 2014 and loved it. Here's what we loved: LOCATION - The location was perfect... close, easy access to the vaperatto's (Venice's water taxis) as well as a short walk to the city center. STAFF - The staff was super helpful, friendly and accommodating. AMENITIES - Free wi-fi and breakfast. ROOMS - Comfortable, clean, nicely decorated rooms. The rooms are small but 1. that's to be expected in Europe and 2. We didn't come to Italy to stay in the room so the size wasn't an issue for us. Overall we felt we got an excellent value for what we paid. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
Cons: The breakfast was a typical European breakfast. The coffee was excellent but the food options were not to our liking. However, it I free so not a big deal for us.

Pros: - very nice and serene property, very well maintained - rooms are very spacious, quiet and nicely decorated - beds are super comfortable - the pool area was great, what a lovely place to spend one's time to relax!
Cons: - the person who checked us in was a little bit cold and grumpy - nothing major to complain about though - the restaurant did not allow any outdoor seating although they had tables outside - really irritating to stay locked indoors on a nice summer day!
7,9 Good
Pros: Old school elegance and the hotel upgraded us to a junior suite which was great (if a little tired in places). Lovely large pool area which was very peaceful.
Cons: We didn’t think it was particularly good value for money. The service wasn’t particularly attentive e.g. there was one member of staff attending the pool area at all times and only us (one couple) using the pool; however not once did he come over to ask if we’d like anything (despite me walking over to ask for a bar menu). Nothing major but for a hotel setting itself apart as being relatively exclusive and high-end, I’d expect a little better. I also thought the breakfast was average (and average against normal standards not just 5* hotel standards).
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The building is beautiful and the pool was fantastic. Food was great and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.
Cons: The food was expensive but that could also be good with the Exchange rate.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast Front-office assistant
Cons: Catastrophic soundproofing Music in the halls can be heard from the room Restaurant overrated and overpriced
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast and wonderful pool. Beautiful setting.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is just amazing. Very nice old villa, very helpful and caring staff, the location is just perfect - you get to Venice just in 15 min by car, but don’t have all the headache with the luggage and boats. Good breakfast, free parking, very good dinners at the restaurant.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great service and atmosphere. Excellent restaurant. Close to Venice ant the airport
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Food, location, friendly staff, accomodation.
Cons: Little bit of maintanace needed in the bathroom. No chance to regulate heating, as it was still off during mid season. Room was quite cold.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: It was all OK and the position suited our purposes.
Cons: More provision to allow for my need for gluten free. A little impersonal.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere was wonderful!!!
7,5 Good
Pros: Cosy place outside Venice with a romantic touch in a lovely small village. Place had been recommended to us also for the great food; unfortunately the hotel’s restaurant was closed the evening of our stay. Breakfast included a lovely choice of Italian homemade pastries/cookies. Staff a bit reserved though polite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful meal outside in beautiful setting along the river. Food was fabulous— service excellent.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It is an old villa along the river, with plenty of nice details inside and a nice little courtyard outside.
Cons: All was very nice! Just one thing on the breakfast: it was “sweet” only (despite very good biscuits!) - we tend to prefer a salted breakfast but anyway very nice fruits were available (cherries!) so finally it was a good breakfast!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming staff, design, atmosphere
Cons: Breakfast was quite modest

5,4 Okay
Pros: I could stay a little longer than the expected check-out time, which was helpful.
Cons: Breakfast was basic. Not a lot of choice and service was a bit slow. Although very large, both bedroom and bathroom were decorated in a very basic, cheap way (especially the bathroom). I would have expected more compared to the rate paid for the room.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely and incredibly helpful with advice and directions on how to get to Venice. The accommodation is stunning, we would have loved to stay longer.
Cons: We spent the day at the pool, it would have been nice if someone came out now and again to ask if we needed drinks.

Pros: I appreciated the amazing customer service, cleanliness and location!!! It is so easy to find the hotel, close enough to the train station and easy to navigate.
Cons: We loved the property, however the pillows and extra bed wasn’t very comfortable, but that’s an easy fix!

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Good hotel with clean room in a very calm and beautiful place in Venice. Not so far from the train station (10 min with baggage by walk). Near you can find a good pizzeria (Very Good Pizzeria Bigoleria Gnoccheria) where you can order good food for the fair price. Breakfast was good as well: different kind of meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables, etc. Seems everyone can find what he/she is searching for.
Cons: A quite strange room interior but it is a Carnival palace, so what did I want to get?) Mb far from the city centre, can be closer but you get a calm place instead. It depends on your priorities.

Pros: First of all allies it was a wonderful and let us check in four hours early. That was extremely nice and unexpected.
Cons: The hotel, the location, everything about it was amazing. Our room did have a little bit of a moldy smell to it but I think that's because they turn the air off when you leave and of course they are on the water. Again, I highly recommend this hotel it

Pros: One of the best hotels in Venice! Great location, fantastic views from the windows, super friendly staff, excellent breakfast, comfortable beds. We were here for the New Year, and it was excellent! The hotel offered prosecco and sweets in the room, made a symbolic gift. In the evening, a lovely free aperitif was offered, and the next day breakfast was until noon. We were really impressed by the kindness and all these free services. Much higher than we expected. The staff was very helpful with our luggage and everything else. Upon arrival, the receptionist provided us a map and all the attractions we should go and visit, which i appreciated very much.
Cons: None of the TV channels were in English. The breakfast was too simple. During check out, the water taxi we booked charged an extra Eur10 because of our luggage (this was not the case when we arrived and checked-in).

Pros: Swing pool and bed room
Cons: Bafh room
8,3 Excellent
Pros: A little of everything
Cons: More than you think
5,0 Okay
Pros: Beautiful island, with amazing amenities but you have to have the money to stay in the top end level rooms, if not very average and expect there are better hotels on Venice
Cons: Not great value for money, rooms were sparse, poorly decorated and felt dated compared to other areas of the Hotel. Also small things that you expect from a 5* weren't there, service was passable, knowledge was limited of Venice for recommendations, etc, didnt feel as welcoming as have done at other hotels. The loungers on the top floor restaurant were soaked the day we went up (must have rained overnight as didnt see a drop of rain while we were there) so you were awkwardly perching on the seat to have a drink. Was disappointed to have to pay to get access to the spa, first time as a guest of a 5* hotel i have seen an additional charge to use the facilities. Transport to Venice is available but once an hour is the minimum i would expect. Also a shame the michelin* restaurant was closed while we were there, didnt realised it was closed for 4-6 months of the year which was planning to take my wife for bday dinner, Apart from that food is average compared to some of the other hotels we visited on Venice.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast Very good quality roof top
3,0 Mediocre
Cons: We were in shower so you could image how we were looked like . And then the service lady walked straight in ! How terrifying ! Also when we checked out and told what happened to the front desk lady when she asked me how the stay was, she charged the card and did not say anything ! Haha what a service ! !
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. It’s truly amazing. We had a junior suit it was lovey. The staff are very friendly and the food is very good. The rooftop pool has the most amazing views of Venice. We enjoyed a morning at the spa The facilities are great. Over all our experience was fantastic. I would highly recommend getting a private taxi boat from the airport to the hotel It made our experience of the hotel even better.

Pros: The place looks awesome, a 14th century palazzo, and keeps it's charm. The staff is super jolly and helpful, always looking to be facilitating your stay. The room was adequate, not too much overdressed, and there were no noises from the street at all. There are all kinds of services nearby, including vaporetto stop for easy in and out of the city. It's also very close to several of the Biennale exhibitions, like Ca d'Oro, just around the corner.
Cons: The internet connection was really not good enough for a five star hotel. We stop trying to connect and used mobile connection instead. Easy to improve though.
6,7 Good
Pros: The room was spacious and the location great. It was also absolutely silent which was what we wanted.
Cons: This hotel was a bit rough around the edges for a 5* hotel eg scuffed skirting boards, stained carpets etc. The staff were not particularly attentive. My husband asked for a rather basic cocktail, which they refused to make as it was ‘out of season.’ There was a stocked bar and no reason why they couldn’t just knock a quick mojito up. The hotel also took an extra £200+ out of my account as preauthorisation for the stay. I had no real problem with this until I came to pay for the stay on departure and they had not yet released this money and still expected me to pay the full amount on top. I think that was a bit cheeky. I had to phone my bank to release the preauthorisation payment as the hotel had effectively claimed it, removed it from my account and said I’d get it back in 2 weeks. This isn’t acceptable. I also went to the hotel as they have a vegan chef. I expected some decent vegan options but the menu was basic, over priced and unimaginative.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Super hotel, in a dream location at Canal Grande.
Cons: IMPORTANT NOTICE: Even if the mayor declares the State Of Emergency and advises not to travel to Venice, the hotel WILL NOT REFUND your money!
9,7 Excellent
Pros: Everything, it was charming.
Cons: No points at all.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful, like staying in a museum. Having breakfast surrounded by frescoes was a unique experience
Cons: I asked the front desk to help me book a train to Florence the night prior to checking out. They told me that they could not do this for me, but not to worry as the trains don't sell out anyway. Unfortunately when we showed up at the train station, the train to Florence we needed was sold out ruining our plans for the afternoon. I stayed in two other hotels on this stay in Italy and in both the staff booked train tickets for me
8,0 Excellent
Pros: the room is spacial. way beyond the expectation.
Cons: it is not very close to the centre, about 20 mins walk, around 6 waterbus stops from Santa Marco.

Pros: Close to bus stop. Friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast.
Cons: Nice area but a distance to travel to Venice Bus stop .In a packed bus.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great in all respects, much better than in other similar, overrated locations nearby. Thank you for a memorable experience! Large suite, clean, cozy, warm-within a true historical villa that reminds of goldent past times. Great outdoor terrace. Free parking. Very nice breakfast, to say the least. Bus station to Venice right in front of the hotel, 30 minutes for the short ride (not the one through Mestre). Convenient pricing
Cons: All Front rooms suffer from traffic noise, it can get pretty bad because trucks and buses are allowed to drive and there is no decent speed limitation. In some areas, some wall painting would be required or at least some basic repairs. Probably the high humidity in the area does not help either. Sometimes Wi fi gets really laggy. No pool and in general, it lacks a bit the “luxurious” tag one would expect from a 5 star location.

Highly recommend, will be happy to stay again!
Cons: The hotel is on a busy road but the windows perfectly insulate any noise so it's not a problem at all. It's a very nice rural area, a nice canal in front of the hotel, picnic area, etc.

Pros: location was good, staff were very helpful
Cons: We were given the attic room, no windows, very low ceiling, poor access to bath tub and sections of bedroom. This was likely due to my hurried booking and not taking in the room details before payment. This room would be ok for anyone under 5 feet 3 inches tall, naturally all rooms are not like this one I would have immediately checked out if my arrival time was not so late at night.

Pros: Great service and friendly staff! Very clean rooms and bathrooms. They also have a free parking lot.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff, helpful, informative and accommodating. Rooms are small but very clean. Bathroom is more than adequate and the A/C works perfectly. Area is quiet and safe. Parking is secure.
Cons: Check-In policies too strict (only until 9:00pm), late check-in fee is outrageous.

6,0 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel was great, near San Marco and it has its own water-parking stop. You will be in the heart of the city. The rooms are renovated, the toilet is very clean.
Cons: The Hotel is good, in terms of location cleanness and rooms. However, the reception staff were not friendly and not easy to talk to. Never smiled. They gave us a straight face once we stepped in, and never felt welcomed!!! Plus I booked a deluxe room and i was given a standard double room....! The toilet was small I mean small that once you open door there is no space to walk in it!!!, then I figured out it's not what I paid for....! And i asked they were insisting it’s a Deluxe and i only asked for what I paid for.... not an upgrade I just wanted what I paid for......! Just farness..

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very nice and helpful. The concierge Emmanuel, pardon my spelling, was so kind and assisted us with wonderful dining reservations. The hotel was lovely and the setting of Venice so romantic. The neighborhood is a great area to shop and tour Venice from.
Cons: Can’t think of anything.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment of arrival via the water taxi - pulling up at the front doors of this stylish hotel - it was a joyous several days. Wonderful staff - every one very helpful and charming. Great bedroom, classic stye bathroom, very clean, over looking a canal, very stylish throughout including the lobby & bar areas. Almost central between St Mark's Square and the Rialto. Very easy to then move out from the hotel and walk every where. Just loved the whole vibe. Even the slow mornings waiting for the high tide to go out!!! We will definitely stay here on a future visit to Venice.
Cons: Could have stayed in the room for ever if not having to actually get out and look at this great city!

Pros: Friendly staff and very clean rooms
7,1 Good
Pros: The Hotel is very quiet and has lovely grounds. The room was spacious and peaceful with a comfy bed. The receptionist was super helpful and recommended lots of local restaurants and gave us all the information that we needed for our day trip to Venice the next day, including a discount voucher for parking. They also left a note and bottle of bubbles in our room for my birthday which was a really nice touch.
Cons: There is no restaurant on site, which is misleading from the write up of the hotel as there are photos that indicate the restaurant is in the building. However we were informed on arrival that the restaurant is actually in another hotel 800m away. There is also no lift so if you have heavy luggage then you will have to carry it up the stairs. Also, there was no other staff other than the receptionist in the evening so was awkward to order a drink even though there was a small separate bar - perhaps it is better in the summer season, I don't know. The outside of the building needed a bit of a tidy up as the canopies on the windows were quite dirty. All in all I was a little disappointed in the lack of facilities for a four star hotel.
7,9 Good
Pros: It was beautiful. Well maintained, the very spacious. The room was huge.
Cons: The concierge charged us for a 2nd guest because the booking site listed us as 1. And instead of looking at our reservation, she simply proceeded to charge us an additional 50€ because of it. It is far from Venice, but the bus commute isn’t so bad.

Cons: The only what Is missing in the villa - restaurant for dinner.

Pros: Quiet peaceful place, good breakfast, funny rabbits walking around the farm. Staying here remind a childhood time spent a on a grandma's summer cottage.
Cons: During our staying air conditioner didn't work. Room was not ready by check-in time.
6,7 Good
Pros: We needed cooking facilities so that our daughter who is a coeliac could have a proper meal that was safe for her to eat. The staff after realizing that they made a mistake with our booking have offered to cook the food we have brought with us in their restaurant.
Cons: We booked a room with a kitchenette on the ground floor and got a room without any cooking facilities upstairs. This was unsuitable for us due to medical issues and travelling with dogs who could not join us upstairs. Rooms on the ground floor do accommodate pets.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Good localization for Venezia visitors. Alive farm animals were great for kids. Spacious parking. Airconditioning. Superb breakfast price included. Restaurant is on place and you get 10% discount for the meals if hotel guest.
Cons: One of the rooms was just above the restaurant, which made the noise and smells a bit disturbing. Fortunately it was only until 22:00.

Pros: Food was good. And location is good because close to Venice.
