Pros: Location
Cons: The hotel is not kid friendly at all. I had my teens with me. They were unable to use the pool without me being present. There is really nothing for them to do in the hotels; wasnt the best experience when traveling with kids. Extra $100 fee at check

Pros: Convenient location between Cleveland and Chicago. Rooms were clean, modern, and very comfortable. Staff was friendly. Convenient dinning options on site.

Pros: Since it was cold outside we could have dinner drinks then use our room. At first glance the room was nice.
Cons: Well first it needed a good cleaning. The corners in the bathroom were gross. The bed was so uncomfortable, and both beds leaned, and the pillows were like bricks. My husband and I made sure we used the hot tub in the morning because we slept so bad!

6,0 Good
Pros: Good breakfast in the morning.
Cons: The pool/hot tub area was pretty dirty and gross. It seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The hotel was pretty empty and they put us in a room right next to the elevator so we heard that all night.

Pros: I like that it was across from the Walmart I don't know if everyone would like that but I did and it was nice but a lot of things are not the same because of the current covid-19 problem like they couldn't have a big breakfast for you.
Cons: We only got a muffin for breakfast and they were extra cautious about the coronavirus thing. They are more strict now about people making noise past midnight because that happened to me once there a few weeks ago. Nextdoor to me they made a lot of noise
8,0 Excellent
Pros: It was comfy.
Cons: Even with the pandemic going on they could have at least opened the exercise room up since there were very few people staying at the Hotel.
1,0 Poor
Cons: The place is way over priced . There is nothing about it that makes it worth the price I paid. Every thing about it was old the coach was very old looking and who ever designed that Little kitchen thing. didnt have a clue of what they was designing. And the water in the shower was not reliable one minute it was hot next minute it would get cold. And the sink in the kitchenette. Took forever to get hot water .then last night the stool didn't want to flush .but finally got it to flush but this morning It would not flush at all . I want my money back .
6,0 Good
Pros: No breakfast due to Covid-19. The juice was always available and very good. They had a microwave, small sink and small refrigerator that would allow you to shop at a grocery and eat decently if you wanted. Nighttime fresh popcorn is a nice snack. That works here.
Cons: I booked a room with a "Hot Tub" it was just a big soaking tub, not a hot tub and could not be made into a hot tub. They should not advertise this as a hot tub. I was looking forward to a long soak that would not cool down as I relaxed. The Heater in the room was turned off when we got there. It looked new and was very clean and quiet. I set it to 69 and it never turned off, yet it was 56 outside. It never got to 69 in the room.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great Location. A quiet night and bed was good. Facilities seemed reasonably new and in good condition.
Cons: Would have liked to know AHEAD OF TIME that due to Covid-19 breakfast was cancelled. Generally good facilities, but the the carpet could have used another pass from the vacuum.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: easy access to room
Cons: n/a
8,0 Excellent
Pros: clean, nice pool, perfect location.
Cons: breakfast was abysmal, smoke smell when we got back from the day out but they transferred us to a bigger room at no cost.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean. Exceeded expectations for hotel of this star level
7,0 Good
Pros: Clean rooms and updated.
Cons: I was double charged for the room and it has taken a week to resolve and still isn’t fixed :/
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very clean and the perfect size for a shorter stay. The front desk staff was exceptionally courteous and accommodating.
7,0 Good
Pros: These days a clean hotel with updated decor, friendly desk person who helped out replacing missing toiletries, and the usual amenities (soap, clean towels, hot water) is a great respite from the road. Thanks!
Cons: Smoky hallways, no breakfast at all (although I do understand that can be difficult to provide much in the current health environment).
7,0 Good
Pros: Bed was comfortable
Cons: All the amenities were closed due to the virus going around

Cons: The staff and the mice
9,2 Excellent
Pros: King suite was very large and well worth the money. Our bed was very comfortable and there were two bathrooms in the suite. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Complimentary breakfast was great.
Cons: The building itself was very outdated and our room, while clean, was in rough shape. None of the bedding matched and there was a random half wall painted blue. It was fine for our purposes, but I would be embarrassed to recommend it to friends based on its appearance, lack of upkeep and how outdated everything was.
1,0 Poor
Pros: Nothing at all very nasty and gross bugs and stains everywhere really was a bad deal and price to much for that dump.

Cons: Very old and run down
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We pretty much had the place to ourselves on a Friday night. The staff was very helpful and nice. Breakfast was great.
Cons: Bathrooms could have been cleaner and room size was small. Also the doors to enter the building closest to our room did not require card entry. (THAT WAS A BIT SCARY) for the money spent it was passable.

Pros: the hotel location was right where we needed it to be. I also thought we had booked a room with a fridge, & when I went to ask, they were unwilling to let me switch or even offer to switch & just kept telling me that's what it was w/o a solution attempt.
Cons: the person that checked us in was very rude. kept interrupting me, and when i was confused about how the payment worked (I thought my putting my card in online i had paid for it, i'd rather pay before arrival) he was not willing to explain. very unhelpful

Pros: I loved the price of the room and the location. You are away from a lot of the traffic of town. The linens were clean and there were a couple bottles of water for free in the mini fridge. Beds are comfy and not very loud. The man in the office was very kind and talkative. Great staff/owners.
Cons: The highway noise can be loud if you have a room near the front. The room smelled like dogs/animals, but this was expected since it is a pet friendly motel. The space under the nightstand was pretty dirty.
7,4 Good
Pros: It was a cute little hotel. I'd come back cause there wasn't anything so bad that we wouldn't go back. Also was a straight shot into town maybe a 10 or 15 min drive
Cons: Room was very small, and smelled like cigarette smoke even though you are not allowed to smoke in the rooms. Wifi was horrid only one bar of WiFi and it constantly was kicking you off makes it hard to plan your day if you Ned wifi
7,4 Good
Pros: Skip the chain hotels clustered on I-94 and head a few miles south of the action to find this gem, which is located in the beautiful countryside south of Michigan City. I had an hour long conversation with the manager on marine molecular biology (I am a marine biologist interested in molecular biology) as he was a science writer. Super interesting guy (Don)! The other thing I liked was that, although I booked through Kayak, the hotel directly emailed me to confirm. I always wonder if my reservation will be botched, so I like the extra effort of the hotel reconfirming with me.
Cons: The room could have been cleaner, and there was no shampoo (albeit there was body wash). Although I like this place and recommend it, I feel it should be more of a $55-60/night kind of place, not the $71 that I paid. Still, I would stay there again, as the "back yard" is gorgeous!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was a great place to relax. Rooms are so clean and staff is so knowledgeable about things to do.

Pros: The rooms were clean and aesthetic. Nothing fancy but everything you need including a fridge and microwave. The price was so low I was expecting something far less modern.
Cons: They could use an upgrade on mattresses, but for the price, it was good enough.

Pros: Loved it
Cons: Nothing to complain about
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, quiet and clean! Would definitely stay there again.

Golden Sands Motel - Michigan City

4,6 Okay (2 reviews)
6,8 Good
Pros: We decided to take a last minute trip to the dunes, and Golden Sands had rooms available last minute for under $100. It was pretty clean, had a nice retro feel, and the staff was very friendly (and accommodating of us showing up after their 10PM check in time).
Cons: It could use some updating, the old tube TV sporadically got 2-3 stations, the towels were threadbare, but for the price it was decent.
2,5 Mediocre
Pros: I was in a bind and had to stay at this motel. The only good thing was location in regards to the area I was visiting.
Cons: Where do I start. Terrible matress, small paper thin towels, small bar of soap(no shampoo), moldy shower stall, no extra security devises on door, rusty sink, furniture that looks like my granfather threw out 30 years ago. Horrible. Left the room very early in the morning just to get out.

Pros: No bed bugs, somehow. My car didn't get broken into, somehow.
Cons: I had to wait for them to be ready to check me in, so check in was 2 hours late. They messed up my reservation, right days but wrong month. There were no sheets on my bed when I got to my room. The shower hadn't been cleaned for at least 6 months before I got there. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed in at least a month. I found a knife hiding above one of the lights. I mentioned the knife to the assistant manager who started telling me it was probably left behind by one of the prostitutes who use that hotel. There are at least 4 that are friendly enough with the staff, so that the staff knows what they do. Some of the staff lives in the hotel, including the manager who was clearly very high during check out.
3,1 Mediocre
Pros: Never changed the bed sheets in 7 days. Gave me two (2) bars of new soap. One extra towel in 7 days. Room was no smoking put STUNK like cigarettes or cigars, I told then not to charge me for that. Another person walked in as I was walking out and they told them the same thing. No refrigerator in room, they had one before, could see the marks on carpet. Other person asked for room with one, but told me it did not work. carpet super dirty, if you walk on it and then go to shower black will come off you feet. Carpet never cleaned. Had to reset my key card 3 times. Ice in from a pot dispenser. Lady at desk had, I don't care if you don't like it attitude, always an excuse why things were not right. Kids running behind desk by here, tattoos all over her body. Seems like a local motel for local singles to shake up in. Many people just hanging around outside and in cars.
2,2 Mediocre
Cons: Dark location, felt very unsafe. Suspicious people hanging off balcony smoking and hanging around main office. Interior smells of smoke, dirty. Immediately felt it was unsafe to leave car in the parking lot, ran inside and immediately bolted door lock. Two steps inside the door and saw dried food on wall, smelled of smoke, dingy. Didn't take 1 minute to decide it was worth spending money to stay at a different hotel! Wouldn't even sit on furniture. Staff at front desk kind enough to give us 100% refund for the night.
4,0 Okay
Cons: Room wasn't ready, after giving them two hours, it still didn't seem like it had been cleaned. Dirty bathroom, dirty floors and walls, cigarette stains everywhere. Also no remote control for TV. NEVER AGAIN.

Pros: Clean, newly remodeled, and a good rate. We weren't looking for all the extras this time and I was a little nervous if we would regret it. It was nice to smile when we opened the door to our room clean and nicely decorated.
Cons: Matress was firm with good support except I like it to be a little softer, my husband liked it fine.

Pros: Location ,cleanleness and price
Cons: No iron
4,0 Okay
Pros: The bed was ok
Cons: The room was noisy, pillows were lumpy, instead of a security lock it had a wooden wedge!!! Didn't sleep well at all. Front desk called at 10 Am, again at 10 30, housekeeping knocked on the door at exactly 11. Very dissatisfied.

Pros: We had room with two king size beds. Room was newly furnished. Everything was new and nice. Breakfast was OK. Good coffee and pancakes. We spend there just one night on our way from Chicago to Indy.
Cons: Somebody parked his car just behind our window at 3AM. He was there over one hour with running engine and very loud music.
6,7 Good
Pros: Close to expressway and shopping
Cons: Comforter was full of stain and blow dryer did not work
2,8 Mediocre
Pros: Close to the highway and fast food resturants. Rooms were small but okay. Wifi connection was a hit and miss. Does have a refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast area was small but had a few choices. No pool. Midshift staff was very pleasant, but checking out staff which I assume was the General Manager was cold and stand offish. Quiet stay. Not terrible but it would be one of my last options.
6,5 Good
Pros: Room was under $50. Needed a place to crash. Staff was not super friendly. Had a room issue and it was like pulling teeth to get it fixed.

3,0 Mediocre
Pros: Since it was cold outside we could have dinner drinks then use our room. At first glance the room was nice.
Cons: Well first it needed a good cleaning. The corners in the bathroom were gross. The bed was so uncomfortable, and both beds leaned, and the pillows were like bricks. My husband and I made sure we used the hot tub in the morning because we slept so bad!

7,7 Good
Pros: The rooms were clean and aesthetic. Nothing fancy but everything you need including a fridge and microwave. The price was so low I was expecting something far less modern.
Cons: They could use an upgrade on mattresses, but for the price, it was good enough.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved it
Cons: Nothing to complain about
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, quiet and clean! Would definitely stay there again.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: It's off the beaten path, yet still close to highway and civilization. The price was definitely right. Friendly helpful staff.
Cons: Like others have said, the walls are very thin.

Pros: easy access to room

Pros: clean, nice pool, perfect location.
Cons: breakfast was abysmal, smoke smell when we got back from the day out but they transferred us to a bigger room at no cost.

Pros: Clean rooms and updated.
Cons: I was double charged for the room and it has taken a week to resolve and still isn’t fixed :/
