Pros: The hotel is beautiful and the location is very good. The bedroom was comfortable and the beds were comfy. There was some communication issues, but not a biggie. We were there for Christmas and were told that there was a Christmas buffet but we could also order a la carte meals at the Chinese restaurant. We didn't want a buffet, so when we went to the Chinese restaurant, we were told that everything was buffet. We could only have a la carte meals at the lobby lounge - which we ended up at. The location of the hotel is excellent as you are just next to the Old Town. Apart from that miscommunication with that one staff, the rest were very nice. We could even go the the sister hotel Indigo, for a meal. The decor and the architecture of the hotel is stunning and you have a view of JDSN from the lobby, which takes your breath away.

Pros: The property is beautifully appointed with charming traditional trimmings and all the amenities you need. In an especially cold winter, our spacious room that overlooks the river is comfortably heated. Amy, cousin of the owner of the guesthouse, is especially hospitable. She helped with many of our arrangements and gave us great tips on where to go for good food. We enjoyed having tea with her, watching her prepare it the traditional way and chatting with her. We stayed 6 nights and wished we stayed longer.

The attention to service was good : they provided a more than decent take away breakfast due to our early departure.

Cons: Our major concerns are related to the staff training. When we arrived, there was some pee on the toilet seat. Our room was on the ground floor and we suspect that it is often used by the staff to do their needs. The second time was then the staff entered our room to add an additional layer to our bed.He came in without any explanation (we didn’t request the additional layer) and did his job as if we were not here. The minimum would have been to knock and ask whether he could come in.

Pros: The hotel is just a few minutes walk via the South Gate in the quieter part of Lijiang Old Town. It is located in the pedestrian area and have good easy access to all there is to experience in the old town. Staff is friendly, helpful and able to provide information on places of interest to visit. Our room was very basic but clean with western bathroom. Mattress was comfortable and the temperature was cool during our stay so did not use air conditioning.

Cons: Payment in China with credit cards proved to be a problem, none of our cards visa, master or amex worked. I think you need a 6 digit PIN and we only have 4!
