Pros: The location is superb and the building itself has been decorated and is run with a high level of attention to detail. The rooms are decorated in a manner that is truly exceptional, including great design and some lovely quirky touches. The breakfast is most enjoyable, served in a lovely room.
Cons: The arrival is slightly at arms length - all the information to access the building and the room is provided, but I would have liked to have been greeted in person.

Pros: Location. Size and comfort of rooms. Friendly hostess. Tea room on groundfloor

Pros: There is convenient tram and bus in front of this hotel. It was clean, friendly and in a good mood more than I expected, and the staff at this hostel was very good at French and English. It provided a very comfortable bed and provided a clean breakfast and delicious tea. This hostel is located in a short distance from the center of Angers. If I visit Angers again, I will definitely use this hostel again.

Pros: Location! Walking distance to everything. Breakfast was very nice. Very clean. Easy to find. WiFi worked. Great variety of restaurants with in a 10 min walk. Very safe area.
Cons: Free street parking from 6pm to 9am M-Sat, and all of Sunday, so you need to move your car for the day time. The manager did direct us to a free lot that was about 5-7 minute walk from the room. The parking lot felt very safe. Older building and room, but that’s also part of it’s charm.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very accommodating host. Lovely house and room. Excellent place to rest.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was very good. The property was interesting and full of character in a superb location. The allocated parking was convenient and a big bonus.
Cons: Nothing.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: I was having second thoughts when we pulled up in front of an old building and was not expecting much at all. But our host walked us through a large corridor to a large high-ceilinged old world room. looking out over a courtyard garden. An easy walk to a lively city center made it's location ideal. Parking was free, close by and our host friendly and helpful. What's not to like.
Cons: I have no complaints.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location to the centre of town and the square (5 min walk). Very helpful hotel manager with excellent English. My room was spotless. For someone who has never travelled through France before this was my idea of the perfect small french hotel.
Cons: Pleased I got a room with a standing shower - but one of our party had to make do with just a bath and shower head.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff, particularly on the reception desk, were excellent; courteous, friendly, helpful and efficient.
Cons: It was rather a climb up two flights of stairs but we appreciate that lifts are not always possible in old buildings. Tea/ coffee making facilities would have been welcome. A safe in the room would also have helped.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendly and helpful. Clean and comfortable. Great location - centre of Angers but very quiet. Super breakfast. Good bike storage. Close to restaurants.
Cons: Nothing to not like.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location is very good! Room was clean and nicely furnished. Staff was friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city.
Cons: Only down side of our visit was the renovation outside the hotel. But what can you do. I hope it will be finished any time soon and future quests can sleep little longer than we did, if desired.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were v helpful, directing us to one of the few restaurants open on a Monday. Parking in the hotel was v organised by the staff.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful welcome into this unique little find, in a surprisingly large town. Room was beautiful, parking well organised, finished with a lovely breakfast before departure.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This family hotel is an absolute gem. The location is excellent as you are just a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the town, while at the same time, the hotel is tucked away in a very secluded area where silence prevails. The room was very comfortable and with all the amenities. Staff is quick to respond if you need anything. Could not think of a better place to kick back and relax. Angers itself has plenty to offer, so Hotel du Mail is the perfect place to come back to at the end of a long day strolling the narrow streets of Angers.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, clean room. Great location, about 200m from the Parking Ralliement / Place du Ralliement. Good breakfast, one of the few hotels I've been in recently where you could cook your own boiled egg and toast your own bread. The price was reasonable considering the location.
Cons: Everything could alwasy be "better" but I find it difficult to nitpick secondary detail when overall I was quite satisfied with what I got for my money.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: excellent location but with reasonable price, very friendly staffs, air conditioned rooms
Cons: seems to be so thin wall and floor that they easily get noises and vibrations of the rooms nearby. The rooms are smaller than they appear in the photographs on the Web.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location is fantastic! Just one block away from the Ralliement Square, so it’s handy to the tram to get to the train station. The square was fun to go to in the evening for dinner and people watching - a nice vibe to this city! I slept very well- quiet room.
Cons: No issues

Easily accessible from the TGV station and located opposite the tram stop, this establishment enjoys a central location close to tourist attractions. At the end of a day of business seminars or sightseeing, unwind in the cozy atmosphere of our lounge bar or Joe Carpa restaurant

Pros: very good location, very helpful staff, big bathroom
Cons: better breakfast for this price, better pillows
5,8 Okay
Pros: Good location and very nice restaurant next door
Cons: Old room with bad bed
7,9 Good
Pros: Good location. Nice rooms. Clean.
Cons: Staff could have been more helpful. Despite what is announced, there is no parking near. We got there by car and there isn't a bay to unload pax or baggage., had to do it in the curb or sidewalk.
6,7 Good
Pros: Staff very polite, available to help. Nice refreshment on entrance. Location is Top. Not many more options though...
Cons: Breakfast wasn't exceptional, just good enough, missing good coffee. Paper cups in bedroom too thin for hot liquids and not environmental friendly. Very expensive for the quality of the rooms with some cheap repairs.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The best breakfast, included in our very reasonable room rate, we’ve experienced at a four-star chain. A variety of fresh bread Ioaves including quinoa bread (never tried that before) several kinds of sweet loaves like lemon cake and marble cake, mini-croissants and pain at chocolat, and large Madeleines sitting in their baking pan. Now for the fruit and protein: scrambled eggs, sausages and an odd-looking bacon we didn’t try, three kinds of cheeses and interesting cold cuts, whole kiwis, a variety of apples and oranges with an available, electric juicer. Good coffee machines with lots of choices and separate pots of coffee and warm milk on hot plates, a variety of good teas, and flat and sparkling bottled water. My favorite item: the individual containers you fill with your choice of jams or jellies. Why? They’re edible! Seriously. Think ice cream cone (the cone part)—very clever. Their restaurant serves excellent food with a nice variety of wines at good prices, and by the small and half-liter carafes. We liked the red Coustieres de Nimes.
Cons: The tiny shower you could barely move in. Also, quite oddly, the hotel’s own description on trip advisor, presumably written or approved by the hotel, says it’s opposite Jardin des Plantes. It’s not. That’s the OTHER Mercure hotel. You want the more centrally located hotel near the train station—Mercure Angers Centre Gare where we stayed on Boulevard Foch. It’s a great walk to the chateau aka fortress and cathedral and museums. (No doubt the other hotel is fine and being close to the beautiful garden is a plus.)
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the old city. Not as close to the station as the name suggested, but the frequent trams stops right outside and it is only two stops from/to the train station.
6,7 Good
Pros: Average room, clean,on a main street, very, very noisy when opening the windows, ok with closed windows.Black out curtains, above average breakfast with good bread and cheeses, very average pastries, fresh orange juice but machine broke down on second day.A tram station is just in front of the hotel, lots of restaurants, museum, cathedral and castle within walking distance, lots of shops nearby.Wi fi working fine.A nice restaurant (Joe Carpa) adjacent to the hotel is open also Sat/Sun.
Cons: very basic amenities in the bathroom (only soap), no minibar in the room, impossible to sleep with open windows because of the noise, should replace towels, carpets stained both in the room and very much so on the halls, thin walls.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: rooms clean, location good, staff nice.
Cons: no parking facilities. Breakfast surcharge.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bedroom's, good shower's and staff were all very hospitable.
Cons: Trying to find somewhere to park when we first arrived, however found one about 10 minute walk away for around 5euros.
6,0 Good

Cons: It's a pity the construction works for the tram system is outside the front door and outside the restaurant which can be noisy if you sit outside

Cons: Hot breakfast fair and water not hot enough to make proper tea.
7,6 Good

Pros: Good localization - 10 min from Old Town Good breakfast Very good service - nice people

10,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything about this hotel. The location is superb - close to everything and right across the street from the main train station. The staff was extremely helpful and professional, the room ( on the top floor) was clean and had everything we needed. And despite the negative reviews regarding the breakfast buffet from customers on this website, I went ahead and paid a bit extra. In the end me and my girlfriend weren't disappointed, the buffet was plentiful with only the freshest bakery, fruits, scrambled eggs, ham, salmon you name it, on offer. Thank you Hotel de France, I know where I'm staying the next time I'm in Angers.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: great location, just 2-3 minutes to the train station, good restaurants around, with seats out sides where you can enjoy the city view with a drink and friends, room is reasonable size, very confortable bed, chairs, clean. Kind staffs too!
Cons: no, not really honest. if have to, then the key/lock was not very sensible, but this is the old style of hotels like that, I have no complain.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming staff, very clean and extremely comfortable mattress!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Silly question
7,1 Good
Pros: Location is good - noisy if you are facing the front but the double glazed windows work well The AC was not up to scratch even on a relatively cool day so not sure how uncomfortable the room would be in peak summer.
Cons: Breakfast was underwhelming. Private parking is available a few minutes off site but beware if you have a very large vehicle! Staff friendly and attentive. Expect to see some vagrants in nearby streets as the location is opposite the mainline station, but it's a good location for exploring the old town and accessing some very good restaurants nearby.
7,9 Good
Pros: Good location for visiting the apocalypse tapestry. Lovely staff. Nice breakfast. Good size rooms and very clean every where. The beds were very comfortable with extra pillows in the cupboard. Proper coffee machine in the room which was appreciated.
Cons: The curtains had large gaps above (On a pole) and with all the lights outside it was not dark enough - it was like sleeping with the lights on. In our room the air con was directly over the bed so unusable at night (the other room was fine) which made it unbearably hot especially with duvets and no top sheet. Sadly we did not sleep well.
6,3 Good
Cons: The internet was very bad, and they do not have parking.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Bed linens were clean and comfortable.
Cons: Parking, rooms too small and price did not include breakfast.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: the place was clean and the staff was polite and helpful but the building requires renovations

Cons: Despite the double glazed windows, we had to open them for a little air which meant the noise from the street was quite loud at times. Not a big problem!

Pros: When writing a review of this hotel in October 2017, I indicated I would certainly stay there again if back to Angers. Now, this has come true, I stayed at Hotel Iena again, for 4 nights this time. My second stay was as pleasant as the first one. The hotel is a bit outside the very historical centre, but 5 minutes walk to the castle and 2 minutes from the bus/railway station. It is simple but everything is clean and quiet. I had the room with the balcony, it has two beds and the view of the crossing. There are restaurants and shops within an easy reach. The staff is nice and helpful. All in all, this is a good hotel close to everything in Angers and I would not hesitate to choose it for the third time.

7,0 Good
Pros: It is very cheap, there is special place for bikes. Quite close to the city center. No aircond but there is a fan. Good heater.
Cons: There is construction site on the street in front of the hotel. The street is a bit noise even at night. The room was tidy but it definitely needs renovation. Seemed like a carpet is not very clean, but maybe it is because of the colour. It is easy to turn on the heater in the bathroom without noticing it. And heater working really well :)
6,7 Good
Pros: Surprisingly, the windows provided excellence sound-proofing from the very busy streets right outside. At first I was skeptical about the noise level but with the window shut it was extremely quiet. The location is also good, being very close to the tram to get to the city center, and it is also close to the river as well as some restaurants, bars and groceries. Parking is pretty easy and also cheap - although not directly connected to the hotel.
Cons: No fault of the hotel but we arrived when the main street outside was under massive reconstruction with both sidewalks and the road. This made access quite difficult plus the noise was monumental (although the windows did a good job of drowning that out. Relative to the hotel, it was certainly on the faded side of royalty. The room was very spartan and there were no amenities: fridge, microwave, coffee/tea making etc. For the money I would have expected at least some of that.
6,3 Good
Pros: As expected this is an old hotel in a fairly good position for exploring the city. The staff were helpful and keen to sort out the problems we faced! The room was clean and bright with a satisfactory bed and decent WiFi, although - being old - a bit cramped, lacking in electric sockets and with a tiny bathroom, For young and fit travellers without a car this would be good value and reasonably comfortable.
Cons: There were very disruptive works in the street outside making even a brief stop with the car impossible. What was described as nearby, private and secure parking was none of these! The "lift" - essential at our age and with multiple bags - was a joke, and we felt embarrassed and humiliated by its temperamental operation! We, all agreed we should move on after one night and we have learnt that if the price looks too good to be true it probably is!
7,9 Good
Pros: Good value!
Cons: It was in temporary road construction when we visited there, but that is not the hotel’s fault!
6,3 Good
Pros: Location was great and male receptionist polite and very helpful. Hotel
Cons: We would have liked aircon in the room but apart from that, it was great. Great location.
6,7 Good
Pros: The location was only a few minutes walk from the city centre. The underground parking was secure and worth paying €5 for. The lady on reception was very friendly and helpful, especially after we had difficulties finding the hotel with the roadworks going on outside. The bed was comfortable. The room was cheap and we got what we paid for although I would have expected breakfast to be a bit better.
Cons: Smell of marijuana coming from the room next door. Walls very thin and could hear road noise as well as noise from the room next door. The room was small, although what we expected. The room itself was shabby and the bathroom extremely tight and the light didn't work properly. The pillows were very thin. Breakfast was average at best, coffee wasn't great and for €9 I would have expected a little more than the options of croissants, baguette, jam and a slice of pre packaged cheese.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: I could say the elevator, but it would take much more than one minute...
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful host. Great city centre location. Efficiently run.
Cons: Tram construction works impede access. This appears unlikely to be resolved before 2020
7,9 Good
Pros: Clean central location
Cons: N/A

Pros: A lovely hotel with superb period features. On arrival was offered an upgrade which provided a larger room. Comfortable with nice added extras, such as dressing gowns and slippers, with a great range of toiletries. Breakfast had a choice for all, and surprisingly my daughter, a very fussy eater, was pleased with the food. A quality hotel and would certainly recommend it.
