We were checked in by the manager who was just brilliant, on explaining that the airline had lost our cases she gave me toiletries to use which was a god send. Featured amenities include a computer station and luggage storage. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: First time to spend a night in an onsen ryokan. Staff is really really nice. We deeply received their warm welcome. We thought there is no bathroom in our room according to the description but actually there is one. The private onsen is free but you need to reserve it. If you want to use it after dinner make sure you check-in earlier to make the booking. We were only able to enjoy it before the dinner and in the next day morning. Dinner and breakfast were also great. Overall we enjoy the stay very much~
Cons: In the next day morning when we go to the private onsen I found a dead cockroach in one of the pool :(
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the service and traditional way in which everyone behaved towards us.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike!
7,0 Good
Pros: The staff were extremely helpful in helping us to plan our travel to the onsen, and were very welcoming once we arrived. The free shuttle bus from the train and bus stations to the onsen was a great service. The private baths were beautiful and very enjoyable. The Japanese style rooms and food was a very new experience, but well worth the venture.
Cons: Japanese sleeping style (i.e. on the floor) that was part of the package that we had chosen was something we had not experienced before and so we didnt sleep very well. However, this did not take away from the overall experience and it was great to have the opportunity to experience their culture in such a welcoming environment.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very enjoyable stay in this traditional Japanese guest house. Exceptional service, beautiful food. Enchanting.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We had a room with a private Onsen. Access to the 4 other Private Onsens was well organised. The hotel staff were excellent, friendly and extremely accomodating. The general level of English spoken was good and the 13 course meal was wonderful.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Baths (both private and public), dinner, breakfast, amenities, hospitality were all fantastic.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The friendly and professional attitude of all the staff. The Japanese breakfast is fantastic.

Cons: None
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The hot springs area is very clean. There is a drink bar in the lobby where you can get some drinks for free anytime there! The choices are good and taking care of younger kids to older ones.
Cons: Transportation. You have to take a train and bus to there. It is good that the hotel offers a shuttle to pick you up from station. Imagine that you fell in the ocean and have someone come to save you!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The shuttle service was great, super convenient. The staff and service were really friendly and accommodating. The 11 course dinner and breakfast was delicious!

Pros: The house is so traditional and services in good manner, you will definitely relax and enjoy your stay here. Hot spring is available for long period, quite convenient.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly, responsive and clearly took a lot of care and pride in their work. It felt like an honor to stay there! We really enjoyed putting on our yukata and really experiencing this property as our reason for being in Arima Onsen. Their onsen facility is beautiful, the room was comfortable and the food was awesome! We really felt like we got a taste of traditional Japanese hospitality.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast could have been more flexible for tourist who is not used to Japanese.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly and gave clear explanations of the facilities. Pick-up and drop-off were fast and efficient. Breakfast has good variety, we stayed 2 nights and breakfast were different both days. Well done!
Cons: Overall, the property is old though well maintained.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Traditional ryokan that is very clean and comfortable to stay. It is a very pleasant experience and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The price is quite expensive.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan is both comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff have excellent hospitality and will not hesitate to assist you with anything you need. I also tried the kaiseki dinner which was pricey but well worth the experience. Because there are not many rooms in the ryokan, the baths are not crowded and you may often enjoy peace and solitude while enjoying the characteristic ‘kinsen’ of the region. Staying here has made me want to visit Arima again.
Cons: There is no lift so people with back or knee problems may experience difficulty climbing the stairs to their room. The air conditioner occasionally made a low whirring noise at night, but wasn’t loud enough to prevent me from sleeping.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: very kind wokers with beautiful traditional apparel. traditional room with yukata. saying "how clean?" is waste of time.
Cons: soundproof is little bad.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Service was impeccable. The staffs were very attentive and the food was amazing

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. 8,8 Excellent
Pros: Although it's not a new hotel but facilities are well maintained. The rooms are spacious and the location is close to Kobe port. It's convenient for the tourists who are driving.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: This hotel way exceeded expectations for friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. the teppanyaki serving the Kobe beef on the 35th floor was incomparable - not cheap but a must do!
Cons: While I knew the price before I booked the hotel I still think it only reflected fair value for money. Also the Japanese VAT didn't seem to be explained well enough on their website - i.e. that I had to pay it (as someone who doesn't visit Japan often I didn't realise it was so high).
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Views. Staff. Room standards. Bar.
Cons: Courtesy shuttle bus didn’t take us to Shinkansen stop at ShinKobe station (only available weekends apparently). Had to go with luggage via Shinnoya which is a complex walk. If we’d known we would have taken a cab.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable, good location for harbor area. Longer walk to central area, or shuttle bus if bad weather.
Cons: The bar was somewhat souless.
6,3 Good
Pros: It’s central and with a nice view of the bay.
Cons: The furniture and finishes are old, and not the classy old. Cheap, lightweight furniture. Also, the computer facilities are shocking for this day and age.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The view from the room was great. The room itself was large and comfortable, if showing signs of wear. Cleanliness was far from the Japanese standard we have experienced elsewhere. This made the price seem too high.
Cons: The hotel needs a top to tail renovation. Everywhere there are signs of age. Dirty carpets (especially in the coffee shop). The overflow hole in our bathroom sink was disgusting and had clearly not been a part of routine cleaning in a long time! The skirt around the base of the bed was torn. We avoided eating in the hotel because we simply did not trust the cleanliness standards.
7,5 Good
Pros: Great location, Convenient shuttle bus, Perfect service
Cons: If you are sensitive to the sleeping environment, you must at least get some earplugs. There is a noise from exhaust duct in the bathroom every a few minute, spread into the room.
6,3 Good
Pros: Room size
Cons: The cost to use the pool Then there were rules we came too swim train but couldn’t use swim gear Unbelievable
8,2 Excellent
Pros: The shuttle bus really helps! And we are amazed with the kindness of reception staff who helped us to make a reservation to Ishida restaurant. Overall the hotel is just nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: All good. Staff super

Cons: They were really helpful in bringing our bags to reception from drop off point (when we check in) but treatment was totally different when we checked out.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Historically stay and good public bath are really nice . Hopefully this hotel could reserve more legacy Japanese factors to be more unique.
Cons: The bathtub is really small in the room. It will be a very big plus if we could enjoy a really good, relaxing bath in our room especially with a good window view.
6,7 Good
Pros: Reception staff and the staff serving us at dinner were very attentive. The Onsens (hot springs) were good.
Cons: The room we had looked old and were quite basic. This was the most expensive accommodation we had booked during our trip. We were expecting something more luxurious.

Hotel Hanakoyado - Kobe - Building

8,8 Excellent (313 reviews)

10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was the second time I stayed at this hotel in Arima Onsen and it's as good as the previous time! I'm not sure the staff can speak English though, we always talked in Japanese with them. It's the typical ryokan that most tourists are dreaming of, the private bathroom is especially amazing! I recommend staying at this place if you want to experience the traditional japanese way of living.
Cons: Nothing
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Private hot spring area at no extra charge.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place to rest and relax. Nice to have onsen bath on property as an option. Staff most welcoming and gracious.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely kind. Free taxi service was available whenever we wished. The exterior and interior of the building are beautiful traditional Japanese style, but the facilities are modern. The hotel was very quiet; only 9 rooms. The breakfast was excellent (unique western breakfast available for ¥500 extra). The signs in the bathroom were in 5 languages. Very convenient for elderly or disadvantaged people.
Cons: The only minus point is that BS TV is not available.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: excellent food cooked in a beautiful traditional open plan kitchen. ability to have the onsen to yourselves which is not possible in all ryokan
Cons: wifi signal was pretty weak
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Superb dinner course! We enjoined a real first-class kaiseki experience delivered by the team led by chef Matsuoka-san, a kind gentlemen and extremely dedicated to offering only the highest possible service to his guests. All the other staff were also genuinely friendly and customer-oriented all the time. Check-in / check-out hours very flexible. Both of the hot spring rooms inside the ryokan were spacious and wonderful to enjoy, especially the one with the iron kettle tub. Great value for money given onsen-ryokan tend to be expensive in Japanese hot spring areas!
Cons: Room was averagely spacious and we could follow the conversations of the guests upstairs and the couple nextdoors. Only 2 hotspring bathing rooms available inside the ryokan, of which the one with the iron kettle tub was occupied most of the time. However, a stay includes free entrance to the hot spring of a ryokan down the road, which makes up for this inconvenience.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hotel is beautiful, staff nice and helpful, fantastic dinner.
Cons: Our beds in the Japanese style room were incredibly uncomfortable. They are not futon beds but something more towards hospital beds to help people with physical impairments or the elderly, which would be ok, if the mattresses were not the worst I have tried in years.

Cons: The air conditioning is not working properly. It was really hot during the sleep.
7,1 Good
Pros: Hot Spring
Cons: my room full of smoking smell; noisy from upstair floor.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: It's our first time to Arima-onsen and Gekkoen left our family an wonderful memory. At arrival, we're already embraced by the hospitality of the staff. With one single call, they picked us up at the train station in just a few minutes and welcomed us warmly at the gate. How warm! Super delicious Kaiseki Dinner and out of expectation Breakfast had brought out the very beauty of Japanese cuisine. It's a MUST-TRY besides Onsen. All 3 Onsen inside the Ryokan and her sister buildings are fantastic. Also the free massage chairs are such a suprise. They just made the whole onsen experience much more perfect. In short, I will definitely recommend Gekkoen to anyone who want to have a genuien experience of Japanese onsen and cuisine. And will revisit her if I shall go to Arima again.
Cons: It's pity that there aren't any drinks auto-selling machine inside the Ryokan building. When we finish Onsen late, we'd always like to buy some drinks but it seems we could only get some at the restuarants, or walk outside... It will be so great if such machines are equipped inside the Ryokan.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: A staff of hotel
Cons: Location and some of service not including
5,4 Okay
Pros: Just average, luckily there was cherry blossom. Staff at the reception is ok.
Cons: Not good food, the staff at the dining room had no smile. Below par service. Hot spring is normal, not good. With the price I expect more. Will not recommend.
7,9 Good
Pros: View and hot spring
Cons: Value for money is quite low given the facility is a bit old. They used to serve wagyu beef for dinner but not this time around so my family was pretty disappointed.
7,5 Good
Pros: The hot spring is awesome. Staffs are nice and very helpful.
Cons: This hotel is very old. The diner included is mediocre. Good for photographing but not so good for tongue. I am disappointed by the food.

Pros: Central. Close to the subway just one stop from the Shinkansen. Plenty of eating choice nearby.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was very safe, the security was excellent. The hotel had laundry facilities, which was great for us as we were after traveling a good bit through Japan. The room was quite big for a Japanese hotel, and the bathroom was very clean. The breakfast was top notch so much variety. The location was excellent. The oldest temple in Japan is right on your doorstep and the subway station is a two minute walk, could not fault this hotel.
Cons: Nothing, everything was great.
7,5 Good
Pros: Great location that is easy to reach from subway and good for exploring Kobe
Cons: You must remember to pick up supplies at night from the lobby or you'll not be able to have a cup.of tea in the morning.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: A very clean compact room with all the usual amenities. Great to have coin operated washing machines in the hotel with instructions in English. Tea & coffee available in the foyer is a nice touch too.
Cons: Our room, on the second floor, was quite dark as the adjacent building was only a metre or so away from the window.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really nice, there was fresh fruit at breakfast which is rare in Japan & a great mix of western and Japanese options so you could try new things.
6,0 Good
Pros: Location, staff, and value.
Cons: The overtly advertised and too easily appearing tv porn channels. Bizzare & not very comforting lighting in the room (just overhead and no reading lights).
7,9 Good
Pros: Conveniently located - clean and comfortable
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location Close to train stations and restaurants.
Cons: Nothing at all
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Clean
Cons: Might be no outstanding (too usual?)

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hot spring is really good. Food is delicious and will choose it again and next time it's better to stay longer!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything like staff kindness, bath, room, dinner and breakfest.
Cons: Nothing
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Awesome food (half-board), was pleasantly surprised especially by the standard of the breakfast fare, as most of the ryokans I've visited had very normal breakfast. Hot bath facilities is great. The staff are very polite and helpful. Gave us a very hospitable authentic ryokan experience. Received an email prior to the trip to ask us about the half-board timing and dietary restrictions. They even have a jacuzzi tub in our bathroom. Totally love the place.
Cons: They missed out the dietary restrictions for one of the meal item, not a big deal but would be better if they didn't made the mistake. Dinner felt a bit rush, guess because it was peak hour and they didn't have enough staff to bring the food to all of the rooms. As they just recently changed their dinner kaiseki menu for the summer, they didn't print the menu yet. One thing I felt that also could be improved is that they should have mention in advance that it's possible to ask the Tourist Information Center to help make a call to arrange for a pickup, such that we didn't have to walk up-slope on our first day to check-in.
7,5 Good
Pros: Dinner and breakfast are excellent. Onsen are nice. Room is clean. Staff are well trained. Very satisfied.
Cons: The room is too bright in the morning. Blinds does not block out enough sunlight.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: nice place, staff and food
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Service was fantastic. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. They were also able to understand and communicate in English which I feel was really helpful.
Cons: The location of the Ryokan was not easily accessible. Although they have a shuttle service, from the station to the Ryokan, not everyone have a Japan number /data roaming. Most people bring along a portable WiFi kit. Maybe can consider instant messaging like line/wechat/telegram/whatsapp/etc etc.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was nice, dinner was good for the beef, but not so good for the fish tempura as my partner doesn't consume beef. The fish was too bony. The onsen in the resort was very nice. Room was very clean.
Cons: As for the check-in process, the staff could have smile a bit more, the other staffs are very warming and polite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was nice, food was good. Rooms are neat, liked the automatic bidet.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: It's very comfortable place. Staff are lovely. Food options not cheap but diverse and good.
Cons: It's ideal of course for the conference centre but not a whole lot else. A very comfortable hotel.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The shuttle bus was very useful, port line was close. Rooms were clean
Cons: Employees could have a bit more English
6,0 Good
Pros: Good to live for big meeting
Cons: The location & scenery
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Good size rooms & facilities bus service to centre of kobe & train station
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were massive, lovely lobby area as well on arrival. The free shuttle bus was great getting into the centre and the public transport options were easy too.
Cons: The restaurants were so expensive and on our first evening we arrived late-ish and didn’t want to go back into the centre. Ended up walking to a nearby family run restaurant (Kobe Steak Sakuri), still expensive but a great experience.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely hotel, room was better than expected and felt quite luxurious and lots of room.
Cons: Meals are very expensive, so we didn’t eat at the hotel and it’s a bit out of the way, but there is a shuttle bus until 9:30/10pm or so at night and a port train to help get to and from town. The location issue and the price of things brought the score down. Otherwise we thought it was lovely and the staff were great.
7,1 Good
Pros: Good shuttle service to stations/main part of town made the location away from the centre not an issue. Views from upper floors were good. Impressive entrance lobby, close to public transport stop if you haven’t got the shuttle.
Cons: Bathroom was tired. Bed hard by western standards.
5,7 Okay
Cons: The only reason I booked was because they list a fitness centre as part of the amenities. You actually have to pay almost $40 to use it, and that doesn’t include the pool. Don’t list it as an amenity if it’s not included.
6,3 Good
Pros: Comfortable beds. Spacious room. Clean and tidy.
Cons: Outdated fixtures in our room (other rooms undergoing renovations). Limited facilities eg had to pay for pool and gym considering price of the room.
6,7 Good
Pros: Room was a good size
Cons: Requested a non smoking room but got a smoking one Bed v hard!
6,7 Good
Pros: Close to airport and train station
Cons: Pool was dirty
4,6 Okay
Pros: The size of the room were good...and the gym should be opened 24 hours time.
Cons: The rates were little too much according to the location.

Overview Reviews
With easy access to the airport and downtown via overhead walkway to the train, we offer top amenities and views of the mountains and bay.
1,0 Poor
Pros: Some things average. Little to like about it, lot us to dislike
Cons: STAY ELSEWHERE The wifi constantly dropped out and even when on ridiculously slow. The swimming pool offered in booking.com is charged at 3000yen perswim (yes AUD45!). The same is true of the tennis courts. So don’t plan on actually using any facilities unless you want to haemorrhage money The ‘sports bar’ wasn’t open for guests to watch some of the World Cup matches (despite that being the main reason most were there at that time including the Irish team) Staff spoke minimal English and no French that I could find which is shocking for an international hotel chain even in Japan Just rubbish (The most annoying of all is that if you look at the bad reviews over the past 4 years they all say exactly the same thing and the manager’s replies are patronising. This is a hotel management that really doesn’t care about guests
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and excellent facilities. Staff very friendly
Cons: A little overpriced
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel breakfast is excellent and nice restaurant. Room is ok in size and clean. Elevator is efficient. Public bath is nice and clean.
7,1 Good
Pros: Service. Very good quality of staff
Cons: Elevators were slow.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We always stay at Sheraton when in Kobe! awesome in-house onsen, really good breakfast buffet, rooms are spacious with basic toiletries and amenities, comfy beds and chairs, clean soft sheets
Cons: Overall look could be improved as it begins to look a bit outdated
9,2 Excellent
Pros: I can enjoy free spa there and it was fantastic.
Cons: there are just several restaurants I can found nearby there.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable & well sized rooms, Good sized bathrooms, excellent Japanese Onsen, great service in the breakfast restaurant especially & happy to fulfill your specific customer requirements.
Cons: Having to pay for the gym & swimming pool & teenagers having to be supervised. :(
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The hotels view were very nice and beautiful . The hotels room bed was very comfortable. The hot spring was comfortable too!
Cons: Around the hotel, there were no place for buying food.
7,1 Good
Pros: The service is certainly very good. The facilities and breakfast while good, all require add-on fees, hence when it is all worked out, I would say the price is on the higher side.
Cons: The location is not very convenient, unless you seek to spend the whole day at the hotel, there is not much, if anything to do on Rokko Island unfortunately. Going to and from the City requires switching trains, I should have done more research beforehand.
7,4 Good
Pros: Direct airport transfer from KIX
Cons: Not in city center.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good location, very nice room.
6,3 Good
Pros: Location Clean Staff reasonably helpful though bit of a language barrier - more my fault I guess
Cons: I booked a room for 3 people, but was given a room with only a queen size bed. There was no extra bed which was puzzling given I asked for one at booking. Staff helped efficiently for a new room but this was an extra ¥5000/night. This would have been fine had I known in advance. I also had to pay for an extra breakfast as apparently the room only came with 2 breakfasts again despite sitting 3 persons at booking Plus the breakfast choice was very ordinary
5,8 Okay
Cons: Room is too small for boule room standard.front desk is on the second floor.sign of the hotel was not clear on map.
6,7 Good
Pros: Great location near Sannomiya and Motomachi stations. Nice looking bar located inside hotel.
Cons: Very small room with sub-par amenities. For the price, we expected a little bit more. Interior of hotel looked a little tired and more suited for business people than holiday goers. Soundproofing could've been better.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were exceptional and very courteous to our every requirement. Highly recommended (due to it's location) for those people embarking on a cruise ship from Port of Kobe.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel was lovely- once checked I
Cons: Unable to check in on arrival. The room was ready but only available if we pay extra. This is a terrible practice. One that needs to change in the whole of Japan. Not visitor friendly especially after a long trip.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location very good, links to transport excellent
Cons: Room quite small
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Right in the centre of all the things to see and dining options

Cons: The walk up the hill from the station.
4,6 Okay
Pros: The Onsen was a nice experience and is well situated.
Cons: The room had an unpleasant smell, the hotel is quite outdated and it shows. The quality of the bed was mediocre. The room was also noisy as the road is near.
7,1 Good
Pros: Great hospitality and both meals were delicious
Cons: The facility is old so everything feels a bit worn out. It was definitely not dirty or anything (it’s pretty well kept clean) but I did see two cockroaches while bathing in one of their outdoor pools
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Awesome breakfast!
6,7 Good
Pros: The staff are very kind and helpful, really appreciated!

Pros: Must upgrade to the Kobe beef sukiyaki kaiseki course! You will not regret it!!

Pros: Amazing experience of Japanese culture. Authentic and very nice rooms with lots of space and all comfort you need. A very nice experience to have the dinner in the room. Free access to onsen included. Friendly staff.
Cons: nothing - perfect
5,8 Okay
Pros: 1. Friendly staff 2. Not outside foot ware into hotel hence hotel relatively clean. 3. Yummy ryokan dinner for 1 of the night (very expensive but worth it) 4. Very local Japanese bfast (some may not be use to the style) 5. Nice outdoor onsen
Cons: 1.Hotel is very old (heard its has abt 60 yrs history) 2. lobby has very strong smoke smell. 3.Shops and restaurant close early therefore not many choice of dinner place.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The people here were so kind. We had a heavy bag and arrived early they drove to the station to collect the bag so we could explore for the day. They then came and collected us when we rang later that day. The onsens are magnificent and so quiet. Sitting under the maple trees at night time in a hot bath was just so serene. The traditional room was beautiful and the view simply extraordinary. Well worth every cent.
7,0 Good
Pros: Excellent view form the room window and very Japanese style atmosphere around the hotel.
Cons: Some details in the room, such as spider web...

Pros: I booked a smoker's room for 3 people although I'm not a smoker because the price was really interesting. And very nice surprise, the smell was not that bad. So.. for savvy travelers who don't want to spend too much, go for it! Old style hotel, with quite big rooms and all the Japanese amenities, very clean. And huge bathroom that was much appreciated ! Not too far from the railway station (Sannomiya not shin-Kobe). Midway between Kitano and the commercial galleries downtown. A lot of restaurants between the hotel and the railways tracks. Good location, good value, good service and big rooms: what else :-) ?
7,9 Good
Pros: big and comfortable bed, classic design, and my daughter loves the shampoo.
Cons: given a room facing elevator and on a low level 2 floor, very noisy. key is kinda heavy.

Cons: The facilities are a little old. Some stain on the bath tub need to clean.
7,9 Good
Pros: Big bed and big room, plus some PJs for the stay!
Cons: There was a bit of the ceiling that jutted out about a foot in the shower, so if you are over 5'4 you have to be very careful not to knock yourself out.
