Reserved car online for noon pickup on Saturday. Called at 12:15 to make sure everything was ready before driving to rental office, only to learn the office closed at noon and would not reopen until Monday. This left me in a difficult spot, but things got worse when I went online to cancel the reservation and was charged a $306 cancellation fee. I won’t be renting from Hertz again.Reviewed Sep 23 2023

The people at the place we’re so nice and helpful. The car however smelled of smoke. The car had been cleaned and smelled strong of air freshener until the 3rd day when that wore off and the smell of stale cigarettes took over the car.Reviewed Dec 26 2021

I rented a car for a week from the Green River road Evansville Indiana location and I was told by a rep that if I returned the car earlier than when my reservation ended I would be reimbursed for the days I did not use the vehicle. I returned the car on the 3rd day of my rental and I was charged the full amount. If I would have known I would be charged the full amount I would have let the rental sit in my driveway for 4 more days. I told that to the person I returned it to and she said yeah that would be smarter "but there is nothing she can do about it now" because she had already processed the return. I asked if there was someone else I could speak to and she gave me customer services number. I called customer service on Monday (11/8) and they told me they could adjust my bill to the daily rate for a compact car but they could not do the refund until I was fully charged so to call back after Wednesday. I called back Friday (11/12) and they are now saying my bill should be even more than what I paid for it. If that was the case why would it make any sense for them to tell me to call back so I can be charged even more for returning a car half a week early so Hertz can benefit from charging me the full week and charging whoever else they rent it to that day. I am very unhappy with the misinformation I was given and how I was yanked around and wasted my time. I want to be reimbursed for the 4 days I did not use the rental car which is over half of my rental agreement. This is deceitful and Hertz is now able to use the vehicle for other customers that I returned early only at a cost to me. I am very unhappy with how I was treated as a Gold Plus Rewards member. rules of car rental included "no smoking"Cons:Rules of car rental were stressed upon check-in along with cleaning fees associated for smoking or pet in the car. My mother had just been hospitalized and I was in a hurry to begin my 310 mile trip. The car smelled rancid but I didn't have time to do anything else. I drove with windows cracked open and at times all windows all the way down. Very strong cigarette smoke permeated the car. Obviously it had not been cleaned enough after the last rental. Upon return of the car and discussion with Mgr, a discount of one day's rental was refunded. Cars that smell like that shouldn't be on your lot!!!Reviewed May 15 2018

Pros:Great value and car.Cons:Too much time trying to upsell to different car and services. No time demo car features. We never did fully understand the cars sound system, had to pull owners manual for cruise control operation, lot of dash board info displays but did not take time to review owners manual to learn how to use. 2017 Kia OptimaPros:Gas mileage was unbelievable...averaged 38 mpg for trip XM Radio was nice and will be missed! Comfortable, roomy trunk Car rode and drove well.Cons:Think the vehicle had been smoked in previously, had several times where I thought it smelled slightly, like cigarettes. Had a slight ant problem. About 5hrs into trip began noticing several small ants crawling in and out of dash. Once we arrived and car sat in hot Florida sun, we never saw anymore after that. Heat must have killed them, although I did put out some ant traps.Reviewed Jul 24 2017

Cons:I was unable to pick up the car I had reserved for three months because of a policy that was not stated when I made the reservation. Allowed me to use a card to make the reservation and get the insurance then unable to use the same card to get car.Reviewed Jun 21 2017
