Pros:The price was great! Van worked well for us and was in satisfactory condition.Cons:No notification that the rental site was not at the airport. When put into a google map it was 7 minutes away so we assumed it was the airport counter. We took the shuttle to the airport counter to be informed it was off site and no shuttle service provided. Had to shuttle back to airport and get in taxi line to cab to offsite location. The price was worth the cab ride - but some notification that we had to do that would have been helpful! Also why does Hertz have the slogan, "we pick you up." In our situation they provided neither a ride to or from the airport.Reviewed Aug 2 2017

Pros:Very friendly staff!Cons:As a first time car renter I was not familiar with the process of picking up and dropping off. I would have liked more info but I could have also asked more questions. Overall, easy and good experience and everything went well!Reviewed Dec 27 2020

Never again!Pros:Nothing. Never got the car.Cons:I thought I made a reservation for airport pickup. Nowhere did it indicate on the reservation that this wasn't the case. After multiple shuttle and cab rides we ended up at the off-site rental location only to discover that they had closed an hour prior to our arrival (2:00 pm - not like the middle of the night) . Hertz's solution was to pick it up for a couple hundred more dollars the next day. Apparently since our reservation was made soooo long ago (month and a half) the price had gone up. We could have gone back to the airport and paid 3 times the amount we reserved it for as well. My husband spent an hour on the phone and he finally found a reasonable alternative with another company. I will never use Kayak or Hertz for a rental car again.Reviewed Feb 20 2017

Wrong Pick-up LocationPros:The car was cleaner than most rental cars. Returning the car was super fast and easy.Cons:Apparently there are more than one Kahului Hertz rental car pick-up locations on Maui. We went to pick up our car at the airport location upon arrival and were told that our reservation was at a different pick-up location. Our counter rep was kind enough to work the system for us in order to find us a comparable vehicle for a comparable price. We ended up having to pay a little over $50 more and we got a vehicle that was not what we would have chosen. It was an okay vehicle, but not what we had reserved. Check the address of the pick-up location very carefully, especially if you're renting a car on Maui!Reviewed Oct 28 2016

Extremely long lines, unreasonable wait timesCons:Spent 1.5 hours waiting in line at check in. Slow, nonchalant service. The woman didn't seem concerned about the line; she also said that it wasn't unusual for them. Don't risk the video kiosk, either... the service "experts" on the other end had to call the people in the office to complete the check-ins, making the line move even slower. I heard the Maui office agents complaining that they should just unplug the kiosks, and I agree with them. It doesn't matter to me, though, because I will never rent from Hertz again...especially the Maui location.Reviewed Jun 4 2017

Decent Rental, need better roadside assistancePros:Close to the airport with a kind shuttle driver, nice cars (we had a mint Hyundai Sonata) and helpful clerk at counter. No frills but what I expect for a car rental experience.Cons:The line was fairly long and then we waited for a car to be washed; everyone spoke quickly and while helpful, they were kind of hard to understand; And when I locked the keys in the trunk, my call to emergency roadside assistance (via the local phone number) was routes to some national call center in which they told me that MAYBE someone from Hertz could bring a spare key but I would be responsible for round trip cab fare (approx $120/direction) and there would be an additional $250 applied to my credit card for the lost key deposit and that AAA doesn't work for Hertz, when I know they do in Maui because the AAA guy was there but he couldn't get into the trunk because the Sonata has a special feature that disables the trunk button if someone slips the lock. It was weird that she didn't call the local office to verify if that could actually happens or suggest calling a locksmith, which is what I did. Im sure I saved myself a ton of time and money, but it seems like someone who handles these calls every day would offer better advice. I would recommend keeping some of these calls local - especially when dealing with Hawaii.Reviewed Sep 3 2017

Maui RentalPros:The car we received was clean and worked perfect for what we neededCons:When I made the reservation I thought the pickup loc was at the airport but turns out I had to pick up at Maui Beach. This was not very clear when the reservation was made. I had to pay for a 1 day rental from the airport loc and had to go to the Maui beach loc to switch out paperwork. I had to pay for a 1 day rental at the airport and did bot get a refund for the 1 day I lost from the Maui loc. We got to keep the same car but the process wqs quite confusing. The employee we had at the airport was very helpful and said this happens quite often. They also gave us a coupon for $50 off. Overall not too bad but still cost more than originally planned and caused us to come back into town to get the peperwork switched overReviewed May 17 2018

Hertz 2 locationsPros:We arrived and took the Hertz shuttle to their rental location and was told we were at the wrong place. There was another hertz rental location that we had to take a $20 cab ride to. The staff was rude and couldn't answer the simplest of questions. We took the shuttle back and got a cab to the other location. The staff was better, but they didn't have the car we rented and had to go with a minivan which was dirty on the outside. The staff said that the different locations get people mixed up and they go to the wrong location several times a day. We were the eighth customer that day that went to the wrong location. Upon returning the car it took 45 minutes to get a cab to the airport ehiched caused us to almost miss our flight. 1. The different locations should be clearly disclosed on the rental agreement. 2. The Hertz staff should have a scripted response when this happens. 3. We shouldn't have to pay $40 for a cab to just get to and from our rental especially with a major company like Hertz. A shuttle should be provided.Reviewed Jan 19 2017

Pros:Car was in good shapeCons:location wasn't at the airport (my mistake) had to take a taxi. I have a corporate Hertz account I use for work. I had booked this trip with my personal email, personal CC and personal address and it somehow linked my corporate account to it. So, it automatically added all of the coverage that is included on my corporate account, and essentially doubled my cost. It was a bit unclear when I picked up the car that this was the case, but it was another thing I missed but shouldn't have been there. I called Hertz and the refunded a percentage of the coverage which helps, but this is something to check forReviewed Aug 17 2018

Hertz overbooked by A LOTPros:Car was nice and was what we ordered, when we eventually got it. We had to wait in line for 2.5 hours at the Maui airport before getting to the counter because the cars had been so overbooked that they had to wait for each one to be washed and give cars out one by one before the line would advance! The wait was ridiculous. Then we waited another 20-30 minutes for our car to arrive from the car wash before we could start our vacation. It was a sad way to spend 3 hours of our vacation. I don't think we will rent a car from Hertz, at least on Maui, ever again!Reviewed Mar 26 2017
