Pros: Beautiful place, nice to stay at a place where the warm service is provided, very nice , , but apart from that I would recommend this place to stay.
Cons: only slight downside was the food was on the pricey side

Pros: Lovely room very clean and spacious . I have stayed here numerous times and always enjoyed my stay. Very relaxing break. Staff very polite and attentive. We will return very soon
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful historical manor house, tastefully restored and extended. Very comfortable.
Cons: A lot of wee lanes to get to the hotel. More basic meals required on menu.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was good but I would have liked more choice of fresh fruit. The porridge was excellent as was the cooked breakfast. The salmon and scrambled eggs were also excellent. The staff were very polite and efficient. Car parking was also plentiful and proximate to the hotel. The lounge where the fire was situated was very comfortable with a nice ambience.
Cons: My wife and I were in the accommodation opposite the main hotel and our bedroom was upstairs, I think in room 25. We found the stairs narrow and awkward when it came to opening the door at the top of the stairs and trying to get into the bedroom which was the first bedroom on the left at the top of the stairs. This was particularly so when carrying cases and bags. The two armchairs in the bedroom were not very comfortable and too low.

Pros: very nice hotel with friendly staff

Cons: Expensive room and noisy Bed not very good Fake fires Rushed at dinner When complained for a standard email very poor customer service
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all polite and courteous. The ladies working at breakfast in particular were very polite and helpful.
Cons: The room was a little small and a little too hot, with no way of adjusting the temperature beyond a small window. The TV didn't work. The hot tub in the spa could have been hotter. Not much choice at breakfast if you're vegetarian.

Pros: Beautiful setting. Spacious rooms and bathroom. Authentic castle atmosphere and decorations. Good food, available all day and evening. It was the perfect setting for our family.
Cons: The beds were very hard, I ended up sleeping on the sofa. I've had back surgery and a hip replacement and could not bear to lie on this hard mattress, felt like concrete. The staff said they would bring up another duvet for me to lie on but it never appeared, so I had 3 sleep-deprived nights.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our second stay at the hotel, always polite and helpful staff and a beautiful building
Cons: The bath seemed to have a drainage problem and the water flowed back up when toilet was flushed and sink was used.

Pros: The large bath in my room, which I needed to warm myself up in. The staff were very good and pleasant.
Cons: The first room that I was allocated smelt of smoke and was cold. The radiator was look warm and never got hot. Not a problem in the summer but this was mid December! Also, the wifi signal did not reach my room. I asked to move rooms and the receptionist was very pleasant and moved me to another room closer to the wifi hub. She also provided me with a heater to heat up my room, which it eventually did.
7,0 Good
Pros: restaurant is excellent.
Cons: tv didn't work and wifi was off.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Clean, well maintained, good location, bed comfortable, friendly staff, good parking.
Cons: Room always cold, radiator was lukewarm even when fully open. TV small. WiFi does not reach the rooms, so cannot use it in the Hotel section.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value rooms were spotlessly clean couldn’t fault it
Cons: Nothing
3,3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Had to tune in the tv ourselves, no wifi signal in room at all, sign in desk asked me to write down all my card details including cvc code (which I refused) made it feel dodgy. Room was hot even in November with radiator off. Sounded like elephants running around above us and doors had no stoppers so kept slamming. Restuarant attached very loud all evening. Hard bed so left us with sore backs after 1 night. Would definitely NOT recommend. AVOID not worth the money.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a great friendly place for travellers. The adjoining restaurant is excellent.
Cons: For me it was perfect.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Nice warm rooms
Cons: The WiFi isn’t good enough. As you don’t get a phone signal would be good to have good WiFi

7,5 Good
Pros: Comfortable and spacious room. Evening Dining nice, good choice of food on the menu. Breakfast excellent freshly cooked. Plenty car parking, surrounding area lovely, nice quiet and homely. Staff pleasant.
Cons: Not very good explanation of room location. There are no lifts in this hotel so you really need to be conscious about stairs and distance to the rooms unfortunately I wasn’t aware of this and booked a high room and my mother wouldn’t have been able to get to it! Luckily the hotel was quiet so they were able to find us another room. Room lovely although bathroom stunk of sewage!
7,1 Good
Pros: Beautiful old building and pretty much perfect for a murder mystery night. Fine for business but expect more character than function.
Cons: Bathrooms are not modern but perfectly adequate. The car park is a bit rough and seems more like a second hand car lot than a hotel car park. I arrived very late and feeling slightly unwell after a very long drive, and the staff were okay rather than especially helpful.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room excellent food and very professional and friendly staff
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building in a beautiful setting. Lovely character, all the rooms were different but where cozy and spotless. Helpful, friendly staff.
Cons: My only comment would be that at some point some one seemed to not be able to get hot water or any water from the shower! But we had 14 of the 15 rooms and it is an old building. This wouldn’t stop me from returning.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were fantastic.
Cons: Hot water at prime times.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice clean room bed was comfortable
Cons: Not suitable for disabled people
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the stay was great
Cons: Staff were excellent the bar food was extremely good value and tasty which Is always a bonus
5,0 Okay
Pros: The evening meal was good, vegetables exceptional. Rachel one of the waiting staff was absolutely lovely and very attentive
Cons: The room decor didn't match, there was a dangerous step in the room where the bed was up a step base which in the dark was dangerous. The bathroom had been modernised but the quality of workmanship poor gaps in the plastic boarding taps loose, the pattern on the carpet on the stairs upto rooms 6-11 was very busy and confusing for anyone with site impairment or dementia. The breakfast was disappointing sausage and bacon undercooked. Lots of wallpaper hanging off walls everywhere. I appreciate its an old building and the upkeep may be expensive but first impressions. I emailed ahead of my visit to say it was a special occasion birthday but there were no extra touches which would have been nice.

Cons: Room too warm and window wouldn't open, bed was uncomfortable, no seats left in bar for a drink. Also would have liked a room upstairs in the hotel. Pros: The bed was very nice and comfortable
Cons: No plug by the bed.
3,0 Mediocre
Pros: The location is handy. The hotel is clean, it's a good price, and, the staff are great.
Cons: The 'Quiet Zone' is far from quiet, so I did not like being kept awake between 3am and 5am by other guests talking, playing music, and, having sex, all of which I am sure I should not be able to hear. The walls must be paper thin for me to hear someone using their toilet in the next room (and I don't mean by flushing). The shower did not work in the first room I was in so I was moved to the 'Quiet Zone' To sum up my stay it would be, would you like a room with a cold shower or or a room where you'll be kept awake.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, spacious clean rooms and a mini gym onsite with enough equipment for a hotel workout (weights, cables, bench, rower, bike, treadmill, xtrainer).
Cons: Good restaurant menu but service slow and food overcooked. Somewhat expected for a hotel chain restaurant but limited options in area due to location.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to local amenities.

Pros: A perfect stay.

Pros: The night portal John was very helpful and friendly when we arrived. The room was amazing! Especially for the price. And the breakfast was delightful. Will definitely return.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice atmosphere and friendly staff clean and pleasant room (which had been upgraded free of charge) good evening meal and breakfast
Cons: overall a pleasant stay with just a couple of minor room maintenance issues which were resolved satisfactorily
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were upgraded to a superior room which was very comfortable and the bathroom was huge with a great shower. Staff were all friendly and accommodating and were a credit to the hotel.
Cons: Nothing!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Croft was a lovely hotel . We stayed 1 night with breakfast and had a lovely sleep . Breakfast was yummy
Cons: Only one staff on at breakfast and she was run off her feet .
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and very pleasant staff
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly night porter, very enjoyable breakfast. Particularly clean room with a good supply of towels.
Cons: Complimentary shower gel not replaced, even though I left the empty tube on the floor of the shower.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Recently renovated so nice decor. Bar had all the right things, comfy seats, modern decor and log fires (unlit). Room was fine. Bathroom only a shower.
Cons: Checked in at 20.45 hrs after long drive from IOW. Immediately advised no food available as kitchen closed, so no bar food or room service available...this was not clear until I arrived and considering the location not easy to find an aLternative. Log fires not lit, so despite fabulous decor, little ambiance and only a couple of locals at the bar...so I didn’t bother with a drink as zero atmosphere and not cosy or welcoming. Room fine, slightly cold and despite turning radiator up, temperature did not change. Bed only had two pillows for a super king bed. Bathroom was nicely decorated but little things like mould in the shower cubicle, hairs on the floor and on toilet seat plus marks on wall, showed a disappointing level of cleanliness. BreaKfast was good, eggs benedict served quickly. Reception staff on arrival and departure were friendly, helpful and professional
5,8 Okay
Pros: Downstairs was bright and clean
Cons: The first thing was the state of our room it looked like it had never been for weeks, the next thing I was sent the offer of an upgrade as I was scrolling down suddenly it was booked but it wasn’t an upgrade it was a double room which on any other time would be the same price but on this occasion came out £10 more expensive as I couldn’t cancel it on line I phoned the Hotel and told them I wanted my original room back and that I was just browsing when it was booked, the next upgrade I did mean was for a continental breakfast which was meant to have meats cheese and boiled eggs none of which was present also they’d ran out of fresh orange juice so it was a total disaster which was blamed on the previous day being Sunday the next morning was exactly the same apart from there was orange juice.

Cons: It was good value for money, the reception could have been a bit more welcoming, automatic pilot
7,1 Good
Pros: We ate in the restaurant and food was beautiful
Cons: The closure of the stables bar left us disappointed, drinks were available in the main hotel which was a function room/bar with no atmosphere and not very comfortable. The hotel could do with some upgrades as it feels it is going to ruin

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building and grounds and very comfy beds. Reception staff were very friendly.
Cons: The room was dated and in need of redecorating (clearly the hotel is aware of this as it is currently in the process of being refurbished). The food quality wasn’t the best, when we ate in the bar one evening our food had clearly been microwaved to heat it up and the service at times was poor. We also had to go up to the bar after 10 mins waiting, to grab the attention of the waiter even though he had seen us sit down and was serving other guests at their table. On a separate occasion, despite being given the bill, we had to hand the signed bill to reception because the waiter didn’t come back for 20 mins.
7,0 Good
Pros: Great location situated very near Centre of town. We stayed in the annex. The rooms were small but had everything we needed. The bedrooms all have tv, coffee making facilities and ironing board and iron - so we’ll thought out. The hotel was undergoing renovations when we were there so some of the common areas looked quite untidy but this is a short term issue. Breakfast was adequate but not brilliant. Staff were all excellent. We felt it was good value for money and we would stay there again.
Cons: Hotel under renovation and this should have been mentioned when we were booking in
4,0 Okay
Pros: Great from the outside but disappointing from the inside. The bedroom was drab and the bed very uncomfortable. The evening meal was very expensive and very average and the breakfast buffet had spent far too long under the heat lamp When I checked out I expressed my disappointment and was given a very long and polite speech about how they are refurbishing the hotel, how it needs it and how the room I stayed in hadn't been done (that bit was obvious) and how I may be luckier next time if I get a nice room. Didn't do much to address the disappointment from this trip!!
Cons: It looked great from the car park and the reception area was nicely refurbished - may have been a better idea to start with the rooms and to pay more attention to the food offering!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is beautiful and refurbishment has clearly been recently done. Bed was very comfy, tv was good, and shower was nice. Staff very friendly. Location is really good as a base in the area to visit different places.
Cons: Spa facilities were a little busy, as it is also a health club. Fridge in room would be nice. We didn't have breakfast, as it wasnt included - was almost as expensive as the (very cheap and good value) room rate!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Did not have breakfast. We know the area, we selected the hotel because of the location.
Cons: Early check out time - most hotels give until 12:00, not that we would have taken until then but, it is a bit of reassurance about not having to rush to check out.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building with large comfortable beds..very clean with Brilliant shower. Swimming pool a bonus. Would definitely stay again.
Cons: Nothing.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The bar and restaurant area are lovely , room was comfortable
Cons: The hot tub was really cold , swimming pool also cold , the hotel is currently getting modernised and much needed in some area, the parts that have been done are great but I was disappointed with leisure area
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The surroundings. The beautiful decor. The cleanliness. The choice at breakfast. Helpful staff. The drive up to the hotel makes you know you are going somewhere special. Enjoyed the sauna and little pool.
Cons: Nothing could be better (other than stretch the pool)

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable rooms, good cooked breakfast served at your table, good central town position and free parking
Cons: Restaurant food is limited, choice not great and service was very slow.
7,0 Good
Pros: Excellent location and very welcoming staff. The hotel was a very short walk from the station and is bang in the middle of the town centre. The staff were attentive and greeted me on each occasion with a warm smile and a willingness to cater for every request I made.
Cons: Room decor and styling felt a little tired - felt like it was overdue a refurbishment by a factor of 4-5 years. Same goes for the bathroom (e.g. the floor was not tiled as is common these days for most 4*-5* hotels and the mahogh).
7,0 Good
Pros: Geeat location, walked to the theatre from hotel, . 12 noon for checkout is good, not the usual rush. Clean hotel great for parking which was free. Would stay again.

Pros: The housekeeping staff were friendly and the building was clean. The price was good value. Had the place been warm and a breakfast provided I could have been generally happy despite the other issues.
Cons: Breakfast was supposed to be included. I was asked for £5 a head before being told there was none as the chef was on holiday. They were to bring a chef in for the breakfast but noone arrived; the housekeeper made us a bacon sarny which was not what she expected to be doing! We were told there would be a parking permit that we would pay a deposit for. On arrival there were non. The outside fire escape had a broken chair outside our door on the top floor and there were other restrictions on lower levels. We arrived atound 9pm and found the building to be of bearable background temperature. The following morning, throughout the day, and up to 6pm there was no heating in the rooms. I'd called the manager at 4:30pm, he'd said it comes on at 5pm but would 'pop round and flick it on'. We didn't see him or notice any heat before we headed out at 6pm. The heating came on at some point in the night making it very warm...as I we were wearing our fleeces! Milk left in the restaurant area for anyone wanting a continental breakfast was not replaced throughout the 3 day stay and spoons used on the first morning were still there on leaving on after the 3rd night.
6,0 Good
Pros: The Douglas is value for money and a great, central location. Check in/out was easy.
Cons: This was my 2nd stay at The Douglas, and last time everything was perfect. This time there were a few things that needed fixing: the central light in my room (no. 4) didn't work and there was no milk with the tea/coffee making facilities. There was also no central heating in the hotel, which on a cold night in January was not good (there was a small electric radiator in the room but unfortunately it didn't give off much heat). The window in the other room (no.17) didn't close properly due to a broken handle and the bathroom door didn't stay closed even when shut. The chef was also off (and had been for a few days apparently) and there was no breakfast, which was a shame as it had been excellent the last time. There was however, tea and coffee available.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Brialliant breakfast
1,0 Poor
Pros: nothing
Cons: the room was filthy the sink and bath has mould in it, window was broke so had to sleep with it open all night in the freezing cold weather and there isnt any parking so had to park in a lay by which meant we had to leave at 7.30 am or we would be charged. on top of this I paid an extra £10 for a 'deluxe room' it was exactly the same as all the other rooms!
7,0 Good
Pros: Location , cost , cleanliness
Cons: No breakfast facilities
1,0 Poor
Pros: still waiting for refund, not happy at all.
Cons: the whole booking process

7,5 Good
Pros: Comfortable and spacious room.

Pros: Comfortable room excellent food and very professional and friendly staff

Pros: Beautiful building in a beautiful setting. Lovely character, all the rooms were different but where cozy and spotless. Helpful, friendly staff.
Cons: My only comment would be that at some point some one seemed to not be able to get hot water or any water from the shower! But we had 14 of the 15 rooms and it is an old building. This wouldn’t stop me from returning.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: Clean, well maintained, good location, bed comfortable, friendly staff, good parking.
Cons: Room always cold, radiator was lukewarm even when fully open. TV small. WiFi does not reach the rooms, so cannot use it in the Hotel section.
