Casa de Sezim - Guimarães - Building
1
9,2 Excellent (303 reviews)
R1 951+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Casa De Sezim in Guimarães, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Guimaraes Shopping Mall and Centro Internacional das Artes Jose Guimaraes. Featured amenities include laundry facilities and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place. Fascinating space with outstanding service. Casa Sezim will go down as one of my all-time favorite hotels. Case Sezim has a unique way of combining an experience of staying in a museum of historic art within the feel of being at home. They even opened their personal chapel for us to visit. The wine is also excellent. We loved walking the grounds and there was always a fire in the huge fireplace. The hosts could not be more helpful! We also loved the dog who adopts all the guests.
Cons: The only thing I can think of the coffee could have been hotter. I really can't find any fault with this property.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is like a historical palace, going back to the 'hacienda' style of the early 20th century. The family still lives in a part of the building, but you hardly notice. Our room was next to a beautiful long veranda, which I have only seen in the movies (hammock included). Beyond it lies a little bit overgrown garden with a lawn and a small pool (water was too cold to swim in June). The four-poster bed and the rest of the furniture were unforgettable!
Cons: You need a car/taxi to go to Guimaraes.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Location and charme
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast amazing, staff and owner kind and caring. Gorgeous surroundings and fabulous bedroom. Not to mention the delicious wine!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Incredibly impressive location. Quiet and beautiful settings.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Stunning history, elegant, tranquil surroundings and fabulous white wines
Cons: For sake of clarity it’s 5.5km from Guimarães - less than 10 euro taxi
9,5 Excellent
Pros: This is the home of a noble, wine-producing family and has parts that go back to the 13th century - but most of the hotel portion is 19th century rustic with incredible furnishings, one-of-a-kind wallpaper produced in Belgium and awesome wine! Lovely grounds, gardens and fabulously entertaining resident Jack Russel terrier. The host/owner, Jose is just a deoghtdul human and so are all of the staff. Breakfast is made form almost exclusively products of the farm. In other words, just the best!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: House of Sezim is a stunningly beautiful estate nestled in the hills outside of Guimareas. Everything from the gracious attention received from Jose, the innkeeper/owner who lives on site (and is also son of Portugals previous ambassador), luxurious Portuguese monogrammed linens, beautifully decorated rooms with period furnishings throughout including handpainted historic wallpaper in salon room, beautiful well manicured grounds and gardens, delicious breakfast and estate grown wine made our stay one of the best travel experiences weve had--(and weve been traveling extensively throughout Europe for past 10 years).
Cons: celebratory fireworks from nearby town
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice historic house in rural setting.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was elegant. The grounds were gorgeous. The pool area was perfect.

Pros: Wonderful location! Right on the iconic square in Guimaraes. Our room overlooking the square was spacious and well-appointed. Spectacular breakfast.

Pros: Perfect hostel! Guys, you are the best!! Love this place!! Little bit noisy at night because of crowds celebrating people on the main square, but we were too tired to notice it))
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Before I even step into the Hostel I knew my stay would be great. Since they don't have 24 h reception, João sent me a message in order to arrange the check-in, telling me also if I needed anything I could text him. My bus arrived a bit late and João waited for me anyway and explained everything about the hostel, making me feel very comfortable. The 10-bed dormitory room is spacious and airy and after all the price really affordable, considering it includes breakfast. The hostel has also a modern and cozy living room, great to relax and also a nice terrace. Great service and highly recommended! See you soon

6,3 Good
Pros: A lovely old house with good parking in convenient location. Attractive old furniture with good bed and sheets.
Cons: It was cold. The common area where we needed to sit to get internet reception had the heating on only over breakfast. Our room was large but had a very inadequate heater. We called the owner when our lights did not work and there was a nasty crackle when we switched them on. He could not have this fixed due to the weekend. Problematic electrical wiring makes me nervous so we decided to check out and find another place to stay. The owner seemed puzzled but did this graciously.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Sense of history and animals in grounds
Cons: Towels were a bit old and scratchy
9,5 Excellent
Pros: This property is amazing. A beautiful old historic home. The rooms were huge with 2 double beds! Comfortable too. Breakfast was lovely and fresh and served with old world charm. The gardens also were beautiful with swans and ducks roaming around and stunning camellia trees everywhere. Access was so easy as you could drive straight in and park right in front of the house. A great location to the old town as well. A special experience!
Cons: When we arrived, it appeared as though no-one was expecting us. It took a while for the door to be answered by the elderly home owner. As we had booked that morning while we were on the road, we hadn't provided an arrival time. Communication was a little difficult but we managed with our limited Portuguese and sign language. The daughter then arrived with a heater for the room which was wonderful.
7,0 Good
Pros: Location Breakfast
Cons: Closed in by busy roads
7,0 Good
Pros: The location was great - close to the edge of the old town so everything was in walking distance. Room very spacious.
Cons: Despite the lovely garden surrounding the house, the outside space was not set up to invite guests to sit outside and relax. The old house is lovely to look at but has a musty smell.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The main attraction is the atmosphere of the place, an old country manor in the middle of the town. Inside is charming as well, although there is not much light, the rooms being on the ground floor. Very good breakfast.
Cons: The bathroom is rather old, and the walls suffer from damp. Not a problem in the summer, I am not sure about colder weather. The internet connection didn't work in the room, only at the entrance.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place - an old vila/palace with beautiful garden between modern architecture of the city. The breakfast served like for the king. You have to try it!
Cons: Wifi, but who cares about wifi in place like this

Pros: Lovely historic home.
Cons: Indifferent staff. The menagerie of animals on the property kept us up much of the night. The breakfast was substandard.

When I get to the hotel there was a lovely gift: a rose with a cute birthday card. I loved it. Thank you so much! I totally recomend it. A special thanks to Lisandra that received me in the hotel and was so kind.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location and quality, along with excellent service.
Cons: The price was rather high and didn’t represent good value.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: This is a very upmarket hotel and fully worthy of its' 4 stars. It is very tastefully decorated and furnished. The rooms were excellent and the beds super-comfortable. Towels, bedding etc were all to a very high standard. Plenty of storage space. My husband used the hotel spa swimming pool. He had flip-flops but had to buy a swimming cap (with hotel logo) for EUR4.50 in order to go in. The breakfasts was really nice. Good selection of items, all of high standard. Prepared fresh fruit was lovely. The dining room was large enough for us to escape from a truculent 2 year old. Secure parking excellent.
Cons: Signposting in the town to the hotel was a little confusing (satnav had decided to have a panic attack!) but that's not the hotel's fault.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Room service was brilliant. Food warm and excellent service. Location.parking. personnel .Breakfast. Train station next to hotel. We went on it for day trip to porto. This trip is recommended.
Cons: Nothing not to like.

Pros: Stayed here just one night for the football... the hotel is fine; it's in a good location, although Guimaraes is small enough it would be difficult to find a bad location! It's a nice town and I would recommend this hotel for an overnight there. The staff were all lovely.

Pros: Brilliant place to stay, new and modern facilities and great value for money. The communal area is a nice place to hang out.
Cons: They seem quite under staffed as the bar was very slow.
7,5 Good
Cons: The aircon did not work
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The room was very impressive. I love the marble bathroom. The bedroom was immaculate. The soundproofing was very good and I got a good night's sleep. Very friendly staff.
Cons: I couldn't find anything I wanted to eat at breakfast. The ham was packet sandwich ham and the cheese was processed slices of cheese. I was hoping for more local food like Bola de carne and/or a selection of quality meats and cheeses. There was a lot of fruit and pastries from other European countries i.e. croissants etc. Nothing for anybody that is trying to avoid carbs or gluten. The breakfast was not worth €7. This was a continental breakfast and nothing was cooked so I cannot see what would warrant that amount of money. Maybe need to state what the breakfast includes beforehand.
