Cons: The pool was not open. A BIG problem for me as water exercises are important for my arthritis. I would have liked to have been told this and offered the chance to change hotels without charge...or allowed into a nearby hotel pool for free.

Hotel garage is tiny (maybe 8 cars) and during our stay mostly occupied by construction material. However, a public parking is just around the corner, exiting through the hotel back door. Parking charges were covered by the hotel.

Pros: The service was terrible. Not only in the restaurant but also at the reception desk. For example: I asked for a wake-up call one night. I wanted a call at 7 a.m. but the reception desk called me (and woke me up) at 1 a.m. mistakenly. I also requested a wake-up call for a very early morning of departure. They never called me. I could have missed my flight but I ended up staying awake after a nocturnal bathroom visit. My body must have sensed that I should stay awake.

They did provide it to me; but the ironing board was in very poor condition! lol Please Management invest in a good ironing board and an iron! Also, my recommendation to have same travel size toothpaste at your reception. Just in case a weirdo like me will ask for one ;-)

Cons: We had a double bed room which was supposedly suitable for 4 persons. With the luggage of us 4 = mission impossible. No foldable couch to be used as a spare bed. So we booked short determined another king-size room next door. Both rooms have the same non-existing view - as mentioned and amde known by the hotel. Instead of a window the rooms have a “show case” with a poster of a forest, which could even be illuminated …. We wondered whether this is a feature or a mistake. Rooms are equipped with a locker, which were quit locked. Nobody seemed to be available/able to open them.

Cons: I discovered I would not have hot water in the shower in the afternoon the first few days of my stay, but when requested someone fix it, they did. Also, the ceiling air conditioner (good cool air) leaked on the credenza and could have damaged my Mac computer, had I not had it plugged closer to the outlet No bueno! Once reported, a staff person arrived in 30 minutes to fix it. I had to constantly get new keys to open the door. Every time I left during the day and came back, I had to go back downstairs to get another key. Not sure why, but it was annoying.

Cons: The tours operator they partner with. More specifically the tour to Chapala wasn't good enough. I think the place is pretty and sure you can do/buy stuff but there were no recommendations from the guides (which were nice and wonderful people). Basically the tour plan was driving us to the locations and back to the hotel.

Cons: When I booked the Taxi with a woman at the front desk, she said 300 pesos. When I arrive at the airport the driver says 350! I only had 340 but he accepted. I would've agreed to pay 350 but it's the principle of agreeing on a price and then the driver being dishonest and taking more for himself. You are all a team and should all be paid fairly. If it isn't enough the hotel should pay you more.

Cons: When I arrived, the elevator was out of service, and my room was on floor 5. I got there through the upstairs. The parking space is very limited, but you can leave your car in a parking lot in front of the hotel (the hotel will give you a courtesy pass so you don’t have to pay this service) The hotel has a valet parking service which seems to be mandatory when they’re running out of service (I’m not a fan of it)

Cons: the cleanliness was very poor, drapes were expremely dirty, piles of dirt/dust accumulated on the very top and just fell on my when I tried closing it and again when i tried to open it. Room smelled musty and restroom didn't seem to be properly desinfected.

Pros: We Liked the location of the hotel to walking distance to cinepolis y Mcdonalds, across from Plaza Alameda. Closer to San Juan de Dios Mercado and the Sub stations, Also, at walking distance to the Micro bus. About 6 to 10 min. Walking distance to teatro degollado, Cathedral centro joyero and Mercado Corona. At night, the area is not safe but the particular outside hotel parameters we felt safe. The bus boys and reception personnel were there all the time and any time, it was very lighted and safe outside too. We were walking very late at night grabbing tacos from a taco cart across the street, very good by the way.

Sheets and towels were visibly stained. Our shampoos weren't full and lotion was opened. They cleaned our room anyways when we had put the do not disturb sign on the door. wifi is poor. view is horrible. area is ghetto. We booked somewhere else before we were in this hotel for 24 hours. They don't even given a facial towel. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Cons: There was nothing I didn't like - this is a great place to stay at a reasonable price. The only thing I would add is that people should have expectations according to the price they are paying. This is not a five star hotel but you will have a perfectly comfortable stay here.

Cons: Pool was too deep. Hotel was more for grownups. Tried to spend time in the terrace but were not allowed with food unless we buy food from them or drinks. However, there was no bar and the restaurant was closed. The manager was going to charge us xtra. So, we decide to go to our rooms. We were a total of 14 guests and had a total of 5 rooms booked.

Pros: I have stated at Hotel Universo on several occasions before and have been always pleased with the service from the reception and the room service personnel: efficient, friendly and courteous. The location is ideal: very close to everything. I generally catch a bus from the Nueva Central Camionera to Centro Histórico, walk a few blocks from the drop off point, somewhere near dos templos, to the hotel with my luggage in tow. Calle 16 de septiembre has been under construction for some time and was surprised on this visit that most of the debris have been removed and there is now a lovely promenade down the center of the street from dos templos to calle Juarez. There is an elevator at the hotel. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels and a bottle of water. Plenty of hot water so one needs to take caution to avoid getting scalded. WiFi is generally OK.

I caught a trolley at the Bellas Artes bus stop, a couple of blocks away to the bus terminal where I caught a bus out of the city and one of the entrances to the Metro (subway) is also nearby. Downtown (Zocalo) is a few blocks away. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. There are a number of attractions nearby such as the Bellas Artes, the Cathedral, the historic excavations of the Aztec temple to the wind god and several other museums. The room is cleaned daily, the bed is comfortable, there is desk and a place to hang your clothes, hot water and clean towels. There is a restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel and I have eaten there on a previous visit but this time I decided to explore other restaurants nearby. There's a bakery next door where I would have coffee and some pastries. I did not have any problems with street noise and other distractions such as loud music from outside. There is a lavandería (not a coin-operated laundromat) around the corner.

There is a travel agency right next to the lobby (glass office) - we wanted to visit Tequila and some other places but needed to get to the new bus terminal in the afternoon - negotiated a private driver for 1100 MXN for the whole day including the drop off at the bus station (better than taking a tour with many people which costs 650MXN per person and you end up waiting for someone all the time.

There was a sign on the bathroom to not waste water but the faucet wasn’t working properly, how do you expect us to safe water if the faucet doesn’t work? The maid didn’t do our room even when we put the sign on the door.

Our luggage was wet, and anything else on the floor was wet. The room door lock was a simple house hold door lock and any 10 year old could have opened it. Basic cable television. I would not stay there again.

Cons: The housekeeper kept taking the barely used soap away, and giving us new. We finally hid the soaps from her. She also was confused about towels. Sometimes 2 towels, sometimes 3, and only once a floor towel for outside the shower. So, we hid a towel, to use as a floor towel, so we would not slip. We brought all the soaps home, to give to the hospital.
