Pros: The rooms where exceptionally clean. We had a fantastic view. On arrival first impressions with the Christmas decorations were fantastic. I loved the pool too. It was great to have an indoor pool with enough beds, another great view and even tables and chairs where you were able to order food. We would go back just for this hotel.

Cons: I went to be close to the forest so this was perfect. If you want to go into Freiburg just be prepared for a 30min walk or taxi needed. There is a bus you can catch about half way but coming home when the bus drops you off its an uphill walk.

Pros: We had a very pleasant stay in this ideally located hotel just next to the main shopping street and less than 5 minutes on foot from the Münster and the old town. It's not a pretty building, but who cares when it is where it is. Very welcoming and accomodating staff, notably at check-in when we got an excellent summary of what to do and see in Freiburg (and even beyond), as well as at breakfast. Clean, nice sized room, very quiet, with a comfortable bed, lovely sheets, duvets and good pillows. Nice touch to have portraits of all the hotel staff on the wall on the ground floor so you can put names to faces. The breakfast is truly good - especially compared with quite a few considerably more expensive places we've stayed in - with hot and cold choices accompanied by good coffee. This made an excellent start to our day.

Cons: I don't think it's particularly acceptable for the (4 star?) hotel's bar to be unavailable/closed @ 9pm the first evening we were there (reason for the low facilities rating). We were told this was because the staff were having a farewell party for a person leaving the hotel, so there was no-one to run the bar. Breakfast juices could be fresher and I prefer fresh milk, rather than UHT, and bread as well as 'brötchen'. The shower was quite small and the place is quietly ageing and looking dated, especially the shower room.

The nearby tram stop (Europaplatz) is just 3 stops from the main train station so just hop onto the #4 tram and by a “Kurzstrecke” ticket for 1.50 Euros. The traffic light warning about the danger of having to wait for a table in the breakfast room if you go at 9 am. We went earlier but by the time we left it had really filled up.

Cons: If there would be a kettle in the room, I'd probably give 95% overall rating, and if there wouldn't a noisy draft under the doors, I'd throw in the remaining 5% (on the bright side, the extra blanket on the floor in front of the doors solved it).
