Pros:I was given an automatic car but did not order an automatic. I was then given a manual car on request as I have little experience of driving automatic cars. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Cons:Had to wait a long time for transfer from airport to car rental, but the bus driver was very apologetic, friendly and helpful which compensated for the delay. Car rental did not open until 5am Monday morning and my flight was at 6:30am, Dublin airport was extremely busy so I had little time to get to my flight. Return should be 24 hours service.Reviewed Jan 5 2016

Insurance madnessCons:My credit card covered rental insurance fully and Europcar asked for an email from my bank/credit card company before giving me the car. I had to call my credit card provider and have them send an email to Europcar. Pretty damn ridiculous. All told, I wasted three hours getting all this sorted, and even after I finally got them what they needed, they put a EURO 5,000 authorization charge on my account, an obscene amount for a one-week rental. Also: There's a 25 EURO airport surcharge that I was never made aware of, and a 35 EURO charge to travel into Northern Ireland, which I also wasn't made aware of until the time of payment. I recommend you book elsewhere, because a Google search tells me that not all car rental companies charge for traveling into Northern Ireland.Reviewed Sep 6 2018

false advertisingCons:We rented a vehicle & when we got there, we were told we needed to upgrade to a bigger vehicle. Because, as the rep put it "we were Americans that didn't understand European cars". NOT true, we have traveled abroad several times & understand completely. There would have been plenty of room in the vehicle we reserved. Then when we told them we had purchased insurance through Allianz, he said it wasn't valid. We were forced into purchasing insurance for $50 per day!!! Unreal, he said we couldn't take the car without it & we were on our way to a wedding. I am appalled & then the car was even worse!!! We kept getting alerts that it needed AdBlue...we didn't even know what that was. I am furious & will be contacting Europcar.Reviewed Oct 23 2018

Rip off alertCons:This company is an insurance ripoff. Insisted on full coverage, left me and my family in a lurch as we were stuck at a remote location offsite from the airport. Would not accept my credit card insurance policies, I had 3 different cards, all with renters coverage. Tried to use my personal renter policy which covers rentals in Ireland and they refused. Hard sell on everything. Instead of the $80 for the week, ended up having to dish out $540. Avoid at all costs. Don't fall for their bait and switch. Kayak should be ashamed of doing business with this company.Reviewed Sep 29 2016

Poor experience on pick-upPros:The car we were allocated was damaged and the damage had not been recorded. We refused to take the car away unless it was recorded. We involved 2 separate members of staff. Photos were taken by them and us but neither of the staff were willing to take responsibility for recording the damage. All in all, it took 1 1/2 hrs to deal with the pick-up of the car, a totally unreasonable amount of time especially on the end of a long international flight. In the end we drove the car away with the situation unresolved and feeling vulnerable to being charged for damage we had not incurred. After sending e-mails to Europcar, we eventually received an apology and a confirmation that the damage had been recorded. The car itself, a Fiat Panda, was unexceptional and lacking power. Unimpressive. As this was our first hire with Europcar, I think they could have done better.Reviewed Oct 8 2018

Prices aren't as advertised...Beware of insurance.Pros:Easy pick up and drop off and online reservationCons:They advertise a low daily rate but when you get the car they pull the insurance trick. They require additional insurance which was 4x the cost of the car per day. So instead of. $70 for a week it was $700. Now I find out that I could've bought a policy before going to Europe that covered me for a year for less than they charged me per day. We we're also told two different things about the fuel tank level at drop off. In the end, we had to go get more fuel to replace the quarter tank missing to save $60. We were told at pick up that fuel costs were the same on site so not to worry about that. The fuel price might've been the same but they failed to mention the service charge of $30. We had to go off site to get fuel and really cut our time close for boarding. It was nice of the drop off attendant to advise us of this.Reviewed May 1 2018

Lots of yays, a hey wait and a nay.Pros:Joe, who was my reservation guy at the airport was awesome, the shuttle system was easy and the airport location not too far away. Our car was exactly what we needed, but did provide the "Hey, wait. What?" moment. Apparently it's not uncommon for automatic vehicles in Europe not to have a parking 'gear', this combined with the sequence required to start the ignition made for an interesting scene as we first tried to take off. Joe immediately jumped into action to help and my sis and I were on our way.Cons:Unfortunately American Express excludes insurance coverage for rentals in Ireland (and a handful of other countries), so we HAD to purchase the full coverage. Also, if you go into Northern Ireland, there is an additional fee (I believe it was €30).Reviewed Oct 16 2016

Not at all what we expected, we asked for onsite pickup not shuttle.Pros:On return the Customer Serivice representative noticed my mom’s limited mobility and without question he said for her to in the car and her would drop her off for us at the departure doors.Cons:We booked onsite pickup as i’m Travelling with my 85 year old mother who has limited mobility and was given shuttle service where I had to abandon my mom for over an hour with all the luggage while I went to a second line up. We booked a 4 door ford fiesta (or similar ) and we where given a smaller Hyundai 4 door model. This was very difficult as we need to travel with mobility walkers plus luggage. I rented from Euro car via Kayak before in Belgium & France and never had these issues. We checked prior to booking that my current car insurance covers world wide coverage for rental car I also checked with VISA the rental car coverage and they provided me we documents that ensure I wouldn’t have to purchase additional coverage but once we arrived the Customer Service representative stated that there is an additional 3rd party coverage that Euro Car needs us to purchase. No where in the original booking does it state that additional insurance coverage is required. I checked with other rental car companies online throughout Kayak and they state in their pricing the 3rd party coverage is included.Reviewed Sep 2 2018

Price problem, and mystic accident !!!Pros:The car is ok, not bad. Not trouble during the rent. The car has been clean.Cons:The difference between my booking price and the real price I have already paid. I need to look for a explication about. Tax ? Insurance? ?? I don't know, I have already asked directly Europcar about, I hope I will have answer early. Beside, when I returned the car, the Europcar employee asked about accident on front driver door, little scratch less than 3 cm. I tried to explain I didn't check the car with worker when I took the car, and the scratch is on the car before, but he said me the opposite. But, when I took the car 12/04/2017, I tried to put this scratch in the contract, and the office employee explained me all accident, impact and scratch have put in the report during the car drop off with the costumer before. So, when I picked up the car, total price with insurance is very expensive than the booking price ( because they add taxes, insurances....) and, when I returned the car, Europcar worker put in the report "mystic accident". Consequently, I send you my dissatisfaction about this rental car.Reviewed Apr 18 2017

Do not recommendPros:NothingCons:-rented a car for 7 people 3 suitcases and they wouldn’t let us have a vehicle that would fit us all despite it being listed on my booking reservation we had upgrade and pay lots of extra to fit 7 people. -the car the gave us the transmission went out less than a mile from the rental place and they told us they would get us a new car in the am. (We we’re stuck with 3 kids at midnight in a new country on the side of the road). -they charged us for repairs on the first rental car transmission stating we ruined the car The service was awful and they are so so rude.Reviewed Jul 17 2018

First time renting outside of the USAPros:Easy pick up and drop off and the staff was friendly. They patiently waited while we contacted our CC cards ref the insurance coverage.Cons:We had requested an automatic, but Europecar could not find our upgrade request, so we got stuck with what was available which was a BMW. In their defence, we never got a confirmation for our upgrade request, so it might not have been their fault. Our big mistake was not verifying with our credit cards that insurance would be covered. Our AX, MC and Visa did not provide insurance in Ireland, so we had to buy EuropCars insurance and it's not cheap. The total cost of 3 week rental of a BMW X1 SUV diesel was $1400 pounds. Do your homework and if you have a written agreed upon price make the rental company stick to it.Reviewed Sep 28 2017

Not as QuotedPros:There was nothing to like as in the end I was t able to get the vehicleCons:They wanted to charge me more than 5X the price quoted at reservation. Insurance was not included in the price quoted. Additionally I was told that they would not accept third party insurance and yet as I kept asking questions in answer to the exorbitant amount they wished to charge, I found that they do accept third party insurance but it must be preapproved. Additionally they wanted me to buy excess insurance. They said all of this took place because I reserved through an American broker and not directly through their company's site. I asked if I could cancel the reservation and book with them, they refused and said there was no way to cancel the reservation even though there was no money yet paid. While just before he'd quoted a cheaper price for a upgraded vehicle, now he wanted me to pay more money for a basic vehicle. I was told that it would normally be cheaper but because of the holiday and all it was more. Which sealed the deal for me that I was being taken advantage of as he had just said that the price difference was because of my booking through the broker, it didn't all add up. After some two hours, including the intervention of a resident of the area, I went with an alternative form of transport. I would say definitely do your research and even then have a backup plan.Reviewed Apr 4 2017
