Cons: Everything, they charged what they wanted, leaving you no option with the insurance. Car was in very bad shape, not cleaned and without gasoline I will never rent a car again with them (Europcar)

Beware of all Europcar costs and tricks

Cons: When presented my credit card with collision coverage, Europcar staff told me that to make it valid I needed to have a letter of proof of insurance signed/stamped by some kind of Mexican authority.... really?? How they expect foreigners to get that?? At the end I payed double of my quote for all this tricks and hidden fees

Ask about insurance

Pros: Chetumal is a small airport and the pick up drop off is convenient and easy.

Cons: Be aware of insurance requirements in Mexico. If you have a credit card that provides rental car insurance they will require a letter for confirmation from credit card company. If you do not have a letter they will not rent you the car without purchasing insurance. The cost of insurance depends on the value of the car and is minimum $200 USD. They do not indicate that in the listing or the general terms. You have to go deep into the T&C to find that.

Pros: Cancelled car rental due to exorbitant required insurance

Cons: What a scam! After I take a taxi to the car rental with all my luggage I found out that an extra $250 was required for the insurance. So the $100 weekly car rental was just bait and switch. The agent at the counter showed me a whole list of customers who had cancelled that day for the same reason. I am not opposed to reasonably priced insurance, but their "required" insurance was over the top. I will not do business with Europcar again.
