Pros: Fantastic location (unless you prefer to be close to the highway or downtown), passionate and great owners, all cabins super: clean, complete, decorated according to a clear vision, Great if you love animals/farming
Cons: Nothing, could not be better
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful people and animals. A kind of luxury that can't be manufactured
Cons: Should've stayed longer
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The attention to detail in the Wagstaff cabin is amazing! The heated floors felt wonderful during our March stay. Fresh picked eggs, a local guide to take us on a petroglyph hike, and the friendliest hosts in the world put this place in a category of its own.
Cons: Unfortunately, our son in law was quite ill during our visit, which prevented us from fully embracing all of the opportunities to enjoy the property.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Words cannot adequately describe what an amazing experience staying at Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch is. The accommodations, the friendliness of the owners, the way they integrate you and your family into life at the ranch — all outstanding!
Cons: Nothing! It was perfect
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The farm fresh eggs were a nice touch, the setting was excellent, so quiet...
Cons: Everything was great. I was a little bummed that I was charge a cleaning fee each night but there was nothing attended to until we left. No one even check in to see what was up.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We will never forget our stay at this ranch. It was really perfect. The ranch, the cabin, the pets... just everything. Ming and Garry took incredible care of us. We got the chance to get to know a real cowboy (Stephen Zicker) and indian woman. It was really hard for us to leave the ranch but we hope we will come back one day…
Retro Inn at Mesa Verde - Cortez - Outdoor view

9,0 Excellent (1 219 reviews)
R1 101+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Retro Inn at Mesa Verde in Cortez, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Mesa Verde National Park Entrance and Colorado Welcome Center at Cortez. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Any property that calls itself "retro" is at risk of interpreting this adjective in a somewhat corny way. While you will not sleep in Elvis's bed, the owners make a brave attempt to bring you "retro" at a reasonable price/performance ratio in a sort of shabby/chic way and definitely pull it off. Any Kitsch is easily forgiven. Great base for Mesa Verde and the Farm Bistro in Cortez proved a gem of a restaurant in a gastronomically arid part of the woods
Cons: Nothing, unless your expectations are unrealistic
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Comfy beds, retro decor, friendly and helpful staff. Keurig and kcups in the room. Cute little dinner for breakfast.
Cons: The shower head makes a high pitched noise. Linens were a little stained. Continental breakfast was mostly starches.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was very amused by the theme of the Inn!
Cons: Perhaps even more themed decor!

Pros: Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the decor and the very friendly staff. Despite the name, Retro Inn, the rooms were modern and comfortable. But the place was decorated with vintage stuff, from the posters on the wall (I was in room 1964 - Beatlemania), to the vintage camping trailer and phone booth by the office. it was great.
Cons: I wish there had been a more comfortable chair in the room....I don't like hanging out on the bed.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We liked everything. The theme idea was wonderful.
Cons: The ONLY issue was the noisy pipes when we turned on the bathroom sink water.
6,0 Good
Pros: Great location. Decent property with grassy areas. Very convenient parking. Clean.
Cons: Expensive for the type of room (older style with an attempt at bringing back the retro feel). Although I visited during high season, so higher price was expected. My room was very small.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine. We were amused by the décor of the room and the facility as a whole and will definitely stay there again!
Cons: Can't think of anything.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fun retro themed rooms. Very clean and close to several great restaurants
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Ambience, character, old style motel but everything worked well and was very clean. Rooms are well equipped with all the usual conveniences. Nice area outside to play chess, eat, or read. Our best value stay during a two week road trip.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: When you first get there make sure you go to the place that looks like the dining area to check in. We could not see the desk from the side we entered. That was a very small thing. The rest was excellent! This was one, if not THE most enjoyable stay we had in our 2500 mile trip across the USA. Loved the retro room. They put us in 1951 which was the year of my birth. It was very quiet and the beds were to die for!!! They were so comfortable and I slept soundly until we had to get up.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and fun room
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Great breakfast. Funky setting and out of the way. The kiva was the best. Laid back atmosphere with lots of info on the area. Comfy setting. Driving distance to many interesting sites. This is definitely not like all of the hotel/motels in the area. You can see the milky way at night.

The bathroom toilet moved as you sat down. the pictures on the website made the place look wonderful, it was not. It looked run down in the front nothing like the pics. We had a car that we were worried about so had to park it in front next to the pool and we had a room around back in the dark with no lighting and anyone could vandalize it because we had a rack on top with stuff. But I liked the frig and the microwave very nice! The Mexican restaurant was everything they said it would be! Wonderful food!

7,9 Good
Pros: Clean and comfortable. Near city park (for walking dog).
Cons: Shower head needed replaced and bathroom sink faucet dripped.
7,9 Good
Pros: The location was very central, easy to get to Mesa Verde. We could walk across the street to Kroger which was great for our morning there. The room was exactly what we needed for our overnight stay.
Cons: Rooms could use a little updating. It was clean, but it still had that feeling like it wasn’t. And it’s a little loud which could have been our luck with who was next to us.
7,9 Good
Pros: Good location, close to everything. Comfortable
7,9 Good
Pros: Great location very pleasant staff .
Cons: The bed was a bit to hard for my liking!
5,0 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Noisy air conditioning
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean friendly staff free coffee and ice
Cons: No
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Vintage style, very clean, very friendly, a few blocks from the center of town. Why pay more for the corporate, sterile feel of a chain? We picked this because it was affordable - and will stay there the next time we're in Cortez.
8,2 Excellent
Pros: If you like 50's era retro motels you will love this - large rooms with separate dressing area and separate bathrooms. Not your chain hotel at all. Our room had a strange noise that we could not identify so they put us in a second room with no noise. Seems the first room's phone was off the hook slightly which caused a high pitched noise. Staff was excellent and recommended wonderful restaurant not too far away. We had a microwave and fridge in our room also. Both rooms were clean and comfy.
Cons: No coffee in room, only available in the office which does not open until 8 am. But there is a Giant gas station with a wonderful coffee bar just down the street.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent. Lots of restaurants nearby. Cortez is a very nice town.
Cons: The motel was small, as was the parking. Overflow parking was available. The building itself was old, the air-conditioning was old, the WiFi was old, but everything worked. My expectations were met because I had read the reviews on this property before I booked it. I even stayed an extra night. What was said about the staff was very true. They were exceptionally nice, sincerely showing their appreciation for my staying with them. If anyone is too good to stay at the Aneth Lodge, they should just stay home.

Pros: My stay was during "off-season". I have seen more economy motels than I'd care to admit. This was clean, comfortable (enough) and convenient. The front desk Manager made the stay great with an unusual and sincere friendly attitude. The room itself was larger than most.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the size and decoration of the room. The staff was great and the motel as a whole was very comfortable.
7,9 Good
Pros: Big beds. Colours of the room. Friendly staff.
Cons: The same problem in all American motels. It’s noisy. Neighbours watched TV all the night long.
7,5 Good
Pros: The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and professional.
Cons: The room was smelling weird and the towels and the sheets was dirty. Unfortunately I won’t stay again.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed and clean rooms. Like the fact that there was no carpet in the rooms. Wifi was a little slow. Continental breakfast was normal for this type of facility. Lots of green space to walk the dog.
2,9 Mediocre
Pros: Location is fine
Cons: Had horrible experience with the bed bug(s)in the room where we stayed: my partner suffered multi bed bug bites across her body(her back, neck, arms, face, and her right leg). She reported this issue to the hotel owner, instead of resolving it to benefit for the future customers, the owner of this hotel was Very rude to her and kept saying that he does not think so. We did some research on booking.com(that’s what we booked the room), there are a few people reporting the bed bug on their rooms in the past, however the hotel never resolved this issue. Now She is suffering the bug bites a lot, it’s swollen and painful, it ruined our vacation. Also now We are worrying that We might carry something from the bed bug(s)to our own house, that will be very costly to clean.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was directly off the highway, making it easy to find when you are tired from driving. Staff was very friendly, room was large, clean and comfortable. They allow dogs, and only charge a $10.00 fee, which is very reasonable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The owner and his wife were helpful, friendly, and eager to help with getting us into our room early and the breakfast was fresh and ready at 6:30 every morning.

5,0 Okay
Cons: Don't let the pictures fool you, the rooms are small and finishes are cheapo. The bathroom was full of places for water intrusion into the walls and floor. Being on the third floor, I felt sorry for the mold the second floor people likely had.
8,2 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were a good size and loved the king-size bed was comfy and the room and bathroom were clean. The staff were attentive, and the location is in the center of Cortez with easy access to Mesa Verde.
Cons: Breakfast is nothing special and very basic but this is a budget hotel so about what we were expecting.
6,0 Good
Pros: Price was good for the area.
Cons: Terrible noise from road and hallway. Floor was cheap and pulling apart. Air conditioner had a huge gap to the outside.

Cons: I had posted wrong date (month) on booking. So, room available when wanted could not transfer date or let me use money's paid as part of cost on day needed. Would not reply to request to let me out of date scheduled. Wasnt contacted even to say NO. So, I arrived and wanted to change room. I was given room booked and did enjoy staff on hand.

Pros: Certainly not the theft from our credit card
Cons: Give your credit-card details to this hotel AT YOUR OWN RISK! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotel was ordinary, average clean, breakfast was very poor and not worth the time it takes to cook your own waffle. So not great value. Even more so since we were charged twice. We paid cash at reception on the day of our stay, then on returning home we discovered our credit card had been charged for our stay again. We are now waiting for this average clean hotel to 'come clean' with our cash. We are out of pocket big time and their error is costing us more every day. Really, there are so much better options in Cortez.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Overall the hotel exceeded my expectations. The Wi-Fi was okay and overall the customer service was good. Hotel appears to have remodeled recently.
Cons: The bathroom is a little bit dated. And the sink in my room really needs to be replaced.
5,0 Okay
Cons: Cheap toilet paper, drapes of windows were not functional, card keys to rooms had to be replaced 4 times (inefficient technology), and the back door to hotel continually expired before 11am for many of customers. Very frustrating stay.
6,7 Good
Pros: The breakfast was better than we expected, since we didn't expect anything. They had waffles, muffins, juices, cereal and oatmeal. Quite sufficient for our needs, just a very small dining room, but it works.
Cons: It's an old property with a fresh coat of paint. The TV could have definitely been larger, it was probably only a 19"?
7,0 Good
Pros: Good place for a night stay while between sites in the 4 corners area. Great location near to stores and restaurants in Cortez.
Cons: There is no elevator, so carrying luggage upstairs was not a fun task
6,3 Good
Pros: Good breakfast options and in a great location.
Cons: Beds pretty uncomfortable. Looks like there was mold on the ceiling above the shower.

Pros: Staff provided great recommendation for dinner.

Cons: Maintenance of room very poor.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They seemed very willing to please. The room was very clean and spacious in the beds were comfortable. The room had a small refrigerator and a microwave which was nice.
Cons: The breakfast was terrible, just cold cereals and bagels. Powdered coffee creamer and instead of half-and-half...ick. There was nothing for diabetics, no protein. The pool was not open and the hot tub was in a small cramped room that was right next to a busy road. The refrigerator was not plugged in and there were notes threatening a five dollar charge if we used a towel or a washcloth to clean up spills. There was, however, a basket of rags provided in case of a spill. The toiletries provided were probably the cheapest available they came in a package like ketchup at a fast food restaurant. The motel was very overpriced. I thought I was getting something a little nicer and quieter because of the price, and I was prepared to pay more but was very disappointed when I checked in. Fortunately it was only for one night.

Pros: Comfy beds, retro decor, friendly and helpful staff. Keurig and kcups in the room. Cute little dinner for breakfast.
Cons: The shower head makes a high pitched noise. Linens were a little stained. Continental breakfast was mostly starches.
