We booked this hotel in good faith in March, since then Coronavirus has come along so we couldn’t go. We were offered a credit note which was not acceptable
I had to keep on insisting that we got a cash refund was told they had staff to pay and commitments, I pointed out that they have access to furlough and a grant for businesses to help them through so they shouldn’t be holding our payment to assist their cash flow they have put us on a list to get a refund when their accounts office reopens. However if they are still taking bookings the account office must be working, I think we have been treated very shabbily to date we are still waiting for our refund. Also it states very clearly on the booking form at booking.com that you pay at the hotel, but they took the money out of our account two days after we booked, think that was because they knew we wouldn’t be able to go. I am surprised that booking.com have asked us to review this booking as we haven’t heard a peep from them either.
The helpfulness of hotel staff. Good breakfast and it’s central location. Sadly we had to cut short our stay due to the Corona virus and the staff dealt with this in a particular helpful and professional manner. We will definitely return once the crisis is over.
The staff were friendly and attentive, the dining room, recently renovated was fine, and the food excellent.
Our room and the food were good.
Some shabbiness in carpets and furnishings As it was our 40th wedding anniversary and this was a return visit to our honeymoon hotel wine and chocolate in the room would have been very acceptable
Nice to have the bar area - my partner enjoyed watching the rugby ! Very comfortable room - mattress very comfy. Spacious room. Lush bathroom - especially the bath. Nice touches provided e.g. kettle with tea and biscuits, bathroom products etc. Lovely breakfast with great menu choices. Very friendly staff :)
The cleaning cupboard which is outside of the room was accessed late at night which startled us. A "mind the step" sign would be useful when entering the main door to the room (we stayed in room 28) as there is a big drop which I wasn't aware of.
Our 28 bedrooms combine antique with stylish and simple decoration, each one is different including our unique 1657 Four Poster room with its magnificently carved seventeenth century bed. Downstairs the hotel's Regency portico leads into a grand stone hall with antique furniture standing on the flagstone floors. The sun terrace is the perfect location for lazy summer days and our log fires the perfect antidote for cold wintery evenings, whilst our coffee shop serving hot drinks and homemade cakes throughout the day, provides the perfect place to relax. in the Dining Room the food is traditional, prepared from only the best of local produce. The Dovers Bar menu comprises of many much-loved English dishes with the occasional international influences.
