Keep was great! Grouchy staff during pickup and especially drop off. The Jeep had mud on it when we picked up which we didn’t care that much but of course we put more mud on the week we had it and the manager lectured us saying he wanted to charge us $250 cleaning fee. We settled on $35 which I suppose was fair. Website says don’t worry about cleaning but you actually better bring it back clean. Heads up.

The 4 dr keep wrangler had no power locks or windows…therefore no way to easily u knock and lock the car. Super base model. It was fairly new but we saw several others w nicer trims. Separately the fuel wasn’t full at pickup. We did 150 miles and were empty and had to fill up. Didn’t have time to haggle at the counter so I have to call them about that. We paid well over $100+ per day and the value wasn’t worth it.

At the Lihue a/p check-in counter, there were a lot of extra charges added to the bill. Plus charging $18.00 daily to add a second driver. When I asked for an explanation about the extra charges, there was just a take it or leave it attitude. They were not friendly nor helpful. However everything about the car itself was great. It was bigger than expected, so all of us were comfortable and the surfboard fit into the back without a problem. I would probably rent from Dollar again, but not at in Lihue.

The wait for our car in line was over an hour. We got a chair for an elderly lady that we eventually moved to head of the line. They charged us an additional $214 saying you didn’t send those fees with our payment. The car was great, but the service needed more people to accommodate very line, out the door, line! Very slow, not congenital person!

There was a 2 hour wait list to pick up car in 80 degree weather and none of the vending machines were stocked to have something cold to drink while waiting. Finally we got up to the counter where we were greeted by the manager who breezed us through and we got a Jeep. Unfortunately, the Jeep had manual locks and windows which I didn’t realize newer cars still had manual entry so for the entire trip we had to reach across seats and reach behind to the back seats to unlock everyone’s doors. What a missed opportunity to market the newest Jeeps. Dropping off a car was much less painful and we were able to pull up, get out and hop on shuttle back to airport in less than 5 minutes. Dollar really needs to come up with faster process for pick up or provide comfort stations during the wait.

Pros:

The woman outside checking on reservations was very kind. The billing was not easy to understand. When you place the order it says you were charged the quoted amount. When you are at the counter they give you an additional bill. Seemed to add up to the original amount but was confusing.

Cons:

The billing part could have been better. The car was not very clean inside but was a good car and comfortable. The staffing was very understaffed. Three car rental companies inside and only one or two staff. Should be one staff person per car company. Very long wait in line.

While Kayak states that changes can be made for free, Sixt does not honor that and wanted to charge $250 for a date change. Also, when we arrived at Sixt in Lihue Chrissy, the Sixt representative, said that they had to redo the rental charge because the credit cards didn’t match which was not true. However, I went along with it. She assured me original charge would be refunded. When came time to pay it was $1,000 more. She said that the car I had reserved was unavailable and was attempting to rent me an Escalade. I stood my ground and somehow the car I had rented originally was there and the price I initially paid was charged. I confirmed with credit card account that she refunded and then recharged the same card. Very sneaky . Be aware.

I made my reservation months in advance requesting a small SUV, but when I arrived they had none. What is the point of making a reservation if the vehicle is not available upon arrival? They offered me other larger vehicles, which I finally accepted, otherwise I would be without a vehicle. Was very unhappy driving a large SUV in unfamiliar locations.

Cons:

Location is NOT at airport - there is NO shuttle. Uber / Lyft are NOT readily available. Must rely on taxi, which is hit or miss from the airport. I had to walk the 1.8 miles from the airport to get to Enterprise before it closed.

The van was comfortable for a family of 5. Checkin and drop off were relatively smooth. Unfortunately the vehicle was not completely clean when we picked it up. Despite their promise to clean out all the pockets and cup holders, there was a whole stash of trash in the one compartment. Otherwise a decent experience.

Our rental had a low pressure warning after the first 5 days. No documentation in car on how to clear it after adding air and finding pressures were good. Returned to Enterprise and they gave us a replacement in roughly 5 minutes, let us pick our replacement, no charge for 3/4 tank of fuel.

We were unable to go to Hawaii because of COVID. They charged us over $700.00 for a car we never used. I will never book thru Priceline or use Thrifty ever again. Trying to talk to them about this was a waste of time. They just kept repeating that the reservation was not cancelable.

Cons:

Recognize that the traveler can't foresee state law changes and that charging people for a car they never used is both immoral, bad business practice and pisses people off. I will never use Priceline or Thrifty again. And we travel all over the world.

The pickup process was extremely frustrating. They ask you to pre check in online the day before, which took quite a long time to verify my license. Despite doing this, they collect all of the same information at the counter and it did not speed up the process at all. When we arrived there was only one person behind the counter and a line of customers. There was one other employee standing outside whose sole job was to keep us in line outside of the office area. However, she left shortly thereafter and went to stand inside in the air conditioning. It was then our responsibility to try to see through the darkly tinted office for the sole representative to wave us in. I used a competitor the week before on another island and had a much better experience. Moving forward I will certainly be avoiding using Hertz during my travel.

The rental location is really convenient if you are staying at Kauai Beach Resort, because that is where the rental office is located. We found this rental location on Kayak and thought it was located at the airport in Lihue. Luckily for us, we were staying at the KBR. We did have to take a $20 dollar cab each way. So the deals that were close in price (less than the $40 difference in Airport location vs off-site), are the ones we would have chosen.

Took forever to get car. Had flat tire on top of Waimea canyon. Tire was bald and no owners manual to help figure out where spare tire was. Waited 2 hrs and still no tow truck. Finally found someone with same vehicle and looked at owners manual regarding spare tire. We would appreciate a partial reimbursement for our terrible day!!

I liked the ease of pick up; I was allowed to go out and choose any car on a particular row that was in the category I had reserved. I wasn't given any high-pressure treatment, trying to get me to upgrade to something I didn't need or buy an unnecessary insurance policy Then it was just a matter of looking the car over for any scratches and proceeding out to our destination. Pros:

Car was comfortable - outwardly seemed clean - staff was nice

Cons:

Car smelled like cat pee almost from the time we drove out. The operation was very small and not what we expected from a front line car rental company - obviously contracted out. Not much inventory to pick from and I felt the professionalism was lacking - would never rent from them again. Gave us an uneasy feeling in regards to the paperwork we were given in the onset.

Our car had major issues. It was 13 years old with 100,00 miles on it. Windshield wipers didn't work, it started to overheat while we were sightseeing, the whole car would shake violently when you braked and the transmission was slipping gears when accelerating from a stop. It was like a bad joke.

Service team was exceptional. Very responsive and a pleasure to work with. The car was old and worn out. I have been renting cars for 30 years. This was probably the worst car I have ever rented. The location is not really at the airport. It is a ten minute drive from the airport, but the service team was vary accommodating. They seem to be doing the best they can with a challenging arrangement.

Communication was great. They reached out to me and let me know they were waiting. Picked us up, took us to car and we were off. Same with drop off. Could not be more pleased.

Car AC didn’t work, windows would shut, engine check lights on. Staff told us tough luck.

Better car or rate reduction for crappy car

Cons:

Received a Jeep Renegade as an upgrade. Some quirky controls, but we liked the high clearance and 4WD.

Pros:

They were friendly while they apologize for giving your car away and only having to "upselled" you.

Cons:

They will give your car "away" if you are running late and then only have higher end vehicles that they upsell you on. Happened to several people, seems like a pattern-even though you have a non-refundable deposit -they will give your car away if an hour later than time you designate. Class action anyone?
