When it comes to car rentals in Arlington, the type of car you should choose depends very much on why you are in Arlington. If you will be going to Boston for business or social events, you might want to rent a luxury sedan so you can arrive in style. If you will be navigating a lot of traffic, a small sedan that is easy to maneuver might be your best choice. If it is snowing, you might want to opt for a sturdy SUV with power and traction.

Arlington is bordered on the south by the Concord Turnpike, which has a speed limit of 55 mph. Running along the opposite side of Arlington, US State Route 3 has a speed limit of 35 mph. Most streets within the city limits, including the famous Mass Ave, have a speed limit of 25 mph, though Park Avenue has a stretch where the speed limit increases to 40 mph.

In downtown Arlington, compared to metered street parking, long-term parking in municipal lots cost less and have no hourly limit. The Russell Commons municipal lot is on Chestnut Street near the corner of Chestnut Terrace and there is another municipal lot just off Mass Ave near the intersection with Mystic Street. Parking meters in Arlington give you 15 minutes for free and then they are $1 an hour for a 4-hour limit. On Russell Commons and Railroad Street, though, the parking meters are $0.50 an hour and have no time limit. Parking on the street is allowed in Arlington except between the hours of 1 am and 7 am when you are not allowed to park for more than one hour. However, you can request a waiver from the Overnight Parking Hotline for an overnight guest, driveway construction, or a disabled motor vehicle.
