Pros: Though our stay in this beautiful area was limited to 2 nights, Estevan and Teresa made our time here especially memorable with their suggestions and help in bookings to restaurants. Loved learning about the lavendars!

Pros: Beautiful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Great outdoor pool. Beautiful surroundings
10,0 Excellent
Pros: What a gorgeous place in every way!!! The lavender fields, the design of the building, old house in the backyard. We enjoyed every moment of our short stay in this charming place. Clean an cousy, and the owner is so interesting and knowledgeable and willing to tell you all you need to know about the area and Portugal We have learned about the process of making lavender oil and olive oil, since they have both lavender farm and Olive trees on the property. BTW, both products they produce and have available for sale are excellent!! Oh, and the breakfast is something not to miss!! Just delicious !!!
Cons: No complaints whatsoever.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great. We've been very well received, the room was very comfortable and the pool was clean. 5 stars breakfast and some great cultural places to visit nearby. I totally recoment.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic Quinta. A wonderful small property in a fantastic setting. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. Anyone visiting this part of Portugal would be well advised to stop here for a few nights.
Cons: Everything was perfect.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We liked the house and the surrrounding area, full of aromatics, the decoration of the property, the confortable bedroom with a view over the fields, the fantastic breakfast and last but not least, the friendliness of the owners in the visit to the property and their explanation about the aromatic plants they grow.
Cons: We were disappointed because we didn't see the lavander fields in flower, as we had expected. But later we realized that the lack of rain in Alentejo was the cause of the dryness in some of the fields. The owners gave us a guided tour of the property, explained everything, and we understood how frustrating this must be for them.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, perfect to visit Castelo de Vide and Marvão. Wonderful hosts. Comfortable rooms, nice swimming pool. Perfect place to relax. Beautiful starry sky.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are just so pleasant and friendly! I loved staying there. The breakfast was wonderful! Beautiful property! I will defenitly go back! Thank you D. Teresa e Sr Estevao
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so welcoming. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Lovely walks around the property and our tour of the owners’ distillery for lavender and milk for olive oil was a real bonus. The nearby hill villages were a delight as well.
Cons: Nothing
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The house itself is beautiful and modern. Overall our room was nice and we enjoyed the attached balcony overlooking the pool. Lit parking area with shade cover. The host was very welcoming and friendly. He made a great dinner recommendation in town. We really appreciated that he called and made a reservation for us. The directions and signage to and in front of the property was excellent. Very easy to find. It was also in a great location near the village.
Cons: The home has a security gate which did not allow us to enter although we rang the bell several times. As a result we had to go to a neighbouring villa to ask them to call the owners to let us in. We stayed at the wrong time of year (late July) to be able to enjoy the lavender fields. I'm sure it is beautiful when it is in full bloom. The bathroom was very cramped and difficult to take a shower without getting water everywhere. Breakfast was good but the food plates were not refilled very efficiently. Overall we did enjoy our stay and are happy we visited Quinta das Lavandas. A little bit more attention to detail and it could be excellent.

Casa da Silveirinha - Marvão - Bedroom
3
9,2 Excellent (254 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Situated at the top of a huge cliff, the medieval village of Marvão offers visitors a breathtaking and varied landscape stretching from Spain to Serra da Estrela. To paraphrase José Saramago "From Marvão we see the whole earth.". Entering the village through the Portas de Ródão and looking in front on the right, the visitor comes across the Casa da Silveirinha. Framed, on one side, by the fragas that lead to the Castle and, on the other, by the immensity of the surrounding landscape, the House provides to those who rest there the sensation of going back in time and becoming guardian of the entrance in the village.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location and beautiful gardens and the quietness of the slightly rural setting were very nice.
Cons: There were really no condiments available for cooking. All dishes and pots were supplied but a few of the essentials like oil, salt and pepper, sugar and tea or coffee would have helped when staying only a day or two in a place with cooking facilities available.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice host, adorable small town, fantastic view, great brekfast 10/10!
Cons: None
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect, would definitely go again.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Casa de Silverinha is located just inside the town gates in the historic centre of Marvao and man, does it have the best view (perhaps the best view I've ever woken up to). The bed was also BY FAR the most comfortable one we've slept on so far and we woke up so refreshed and clear-headed, for the first time in our 8-day long trip. The breakfast was also wonderful - in sum, we loved everything!
Cons: nothing!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully restored building.
Cons: Woukd like fresh coffee and fruit for breakfast.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, nice and caring staff, location is perfect.
Cons: A bit cold in the night (which is normal, given the rustic and old house infrastructure).
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff, large accommodations, use of terrace, and refrigerator
Cons: We liked it all, communicating was a little difficult as staff didn't speak much English but that can be more fun
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place to stay when visiting Marvao. Very nice rooms. There is a small shared balkony just outside the back door with a magnificant view of the surrounding landscape. The house is located near the entry through the city wall so it's possible to use the parking lots outside the city walls.
Cons: Nothing. We really enjoyed our stay.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The Casa was easy to find, the room had a great view and the bed was comfortable. The air conditioner was very welcome since it was so hot. The breakfast was very nice.

Pros: Beautiful, clean, comfortable - very accommodating
Cons: We liked it all
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A cosy, stylish apartment in the heart of an authentic Portugese town.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The kitchen is equipped with everything necessary for cooking. we lived on the second floor with an interesting view from the window to the old town. it's always interesting to live in an old house with a history
Cons: made a not very high-quality renovation of the old house, as a result of which sound insulation is very bad, the toilet is separated from the rest of the premises not by a continuous partition, there is no parking in a radius of 100 meters.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The apartment is huge, spotless and shows creativity and good taste. Its location is perfect. The old building has been perfectly renovated and still managed to integrate ancient elements in the renovation. We were impressed by the care given by the people who worked on the apartment to all the details. We loved the wooden floor, the high ceiling, the stone wall, the well equipped kitchen and bathroom, the comfortable bed with its dozens of huge pillows... And last but not least, welcoming guests with drinks and food in the fridge and on the exquisite prepared table proves perfect hosts. We were hesitating when booking but I must say that pictures on booking.com do not give the appartment justice. A few words on the hosts: although interaction was minimal, they welcomed us really nicely, helped us with the bags, explained us where to go, what to see and why (a booklet was available with flyers too ) and it was very nice to meet Lina and Rui. The region is surrounded by nice villages, with Marvao the most famous. I suggest Castello de Vide as base camp. Much nicer imho.
Cons: Nothing to fault. Already a high level of comfort. A suggestion though, wardrobes can be a nice touch when you exit the shower as the room can be a little fresh.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I could not be happier how my parents were received, and how much they were happy after their stay! Thank you so much Lina for all your sympathy!

Pros: If I could give this lovely property a 20/10, I would! This is by far one of the most lovely places that my family and I have ever stayed. The owners are wonderful, personable, and take great care in making sure you have a perfect experience. The Quinta itself was immaculate. I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful and well appointed it is. It was exceptionally clean, decorated beautifully, and was so spacious and comfortable for our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids). Everything smelled so beautiful and fresh, the linen and bedding so comfortable and new. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect. If we ever find ourselves in Portugal again I will go out of my way to make sure we stay here again but for longer this time!!
Cons: Absolutely nothing. There was absolutely nothing not to like!

If you are looking for peace and tranquillity, the Pousada de Marvão guarantees a unique and original stay!
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Nice traditional building with amazing views. Fabulous views from the dining room. Very friendly reception.
Cons: The dinner menu was mainly pork or cod. A bit more variety would have been good.
7,0 Good
Pros: The view from the living room is amazing. The beds were beautiful. The wait staff for breakfast was welcoming. Was nice to have bottled water in the room.
Cons: Reception staff was seldom there and not helpful when on the desk. We showed up for dinner, there were plenty of empty tables, but we were told that we should come back later, they were serving other tables, or sit and wait, we left. The wait staff for breakfast was more friendly, the breakfast left a lot to be desired, there was no black tea available even after asking, just low quality earl grey and infusions. Had coffee instead, not drinkable. there were no lotions, conditioners or real shampoos available, there was a paper saying to ask for environmental reasons, eventually got a lotion, no conditioner. They could easily install dispensers in the bathrooms for more than the soap/shampoo mix that was like dish-washing soap. Or warn people to bring their own. I expected better service at a Pousada, and at this price. The fruit in the room well meant as it may have been was not appetizing, bananas were between green and brown.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely light airy room- excellent staff and the village of Marvão and the castle are definitely worth a visit. Stunning, peaceful and charming
Cons: No indication that driving in Marvao requires nerves of steel and a complete lack of concern you might scrap your car along a stone walk!! Plus for warning where the car park is and that it’s down a road designed for donkeys would be good !
9,5 Excellent
Pros: location within the town made seeing it easy. Food and service very good.
Cons: access by car not easy with a disabled companion, but inside hotel was good
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous location in the center of Marvão, lots of character and very friendly staff
7,0 Good
Pros: This adorable place is actually a good value. The meal was a bit disappointing and the view was nice but really no little town there.
Cons: I think I would have been happier in a place with more of a town.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: We loved Marvoa, but you have to go there knowing that it is a tiny ancient town with steep hills and very narrow streets. That said, We found it charming, got parking just below the hotel, and managed just fine. The receptionist, Suzana Fernandez was so sweet and helpful, providing exceptional service. Breakfast was ample and delicious.
Cons: We had a lite dinner there the first night and did not enjoy it. The staff were unfriendly and the food was mediocre and very expensive. I cannot recommend eating dinner there.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Parking is a real problem
Cons: The place and service
6,8 Good
Pros: The location
Cons: The pousada is functional but I think it could do with upgrading. The bed wasn’t very comfortable and also having seen shower curtains in bathrooms isn’t very nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: What a marvelous place. The staff was absolutely accommodating of oir needs. They made our stay very easy. The breakfast was delicious. The town of Marvão is a wonder and if you have a chance you should go up to the castle at sunset for a life changing experience.
Cons: There was not enough kitchen staff available to make dinner for more than a limited number of people after 9:00 pm. We were unable to eat dinner at the Pousada's restaraunt.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Quirky hotel, beautifully renovated and we had access to full kitchen and lounge. Loved the location on an abandoned railway line and just 5 mins drive to visit Marvao. Would definitely recommend this hotel for travellers.
Cons: You would need wardrobe space if you were staying for any length of time.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: It is an unique experience to stay in a former train station. The location is good, beautiful surroundings and landscapes, and the room was quite good. I loved the decoration of the hostel. Very decent breakfast.
Cons: No AC unit and head table in the bedroom. The room has a fancy decoration but it’s not practical.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It's a really wonderful and cosy hotel in a very special place that used to be a train station before. An amazing Marvao town on the mountain with a castle is just 15 minutes away. As well as excavation of Roman city Ammaia. The only thing I regret that we stayed only for one night. I thought there wouldn't be much to do, but I was wrong. There are hiking routes, horse riding, train biking (or how do you call that thing that rides on the train tracks?). Definitely, need to come back here.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is perfect. We spent a night here and slept very well. The owner is super nice too. Would love to stay more nights here and enjoy the view.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: So beautiful and relaxing. Really neat property.
Cons: Tiny bedrooms
9,5 Excellent
Pros: History and ambience, good atmosphere and welcome. Unique location. Very good value.
Cons: Rooms were somewhat cramped.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: This place is very very special (former train station at the Portuguese - Spanish border). The new owners converted it very tastfully and respectfully into a beautiful guesthouse. It is still a guesthouse, not a 3 stars hotel (thanks god), so, the standards are accordingly - and really quite OK! We enjoyed the quiet evenings at the railways (now inactive) and the mornings, listening to hundreds of birds that have found here an new home. Really outstanding!
Cons: Even if it's "just a guesthouse", the breakfast could be upgraded without too many additional cost: Cheese and ham are standard from the supermarket - maybe some local cheese and chourizo would make your guest much more happy without too much additional cost? Eggs for breakfast would be wonderful - how about that? Coffee is not "real coffee" (seems to be chicory) - we were happy that we brought our own expresso machine with us...
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and stylish renovated trainstation in a quiet little village, very nice staff & owner, good breakfast, comfortable beds. The apartment we stayed in has a garden were you can relax and look at all the stars in the evening.

Pros: A truly magical place, unique, so romantic, comfortable and beautiful ! We loved every little detail! We left completely rejuvenated with this unforgettable stay. Everything just magical! Beautiful country house with the most incredible views, so romantic and comfortable!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, really relaxing. The staff was really helpful, constantly giving us tips and helpful insights about the best restaurants and places to visit. The room has an amazing balcony in which we relaxed and enjoyed the amazing silence and peace. Great place!
Cons: The room was good but not worth the price. It was quite cold during the first night and no warming device was provided. And also de AC was broken. The next day it was fixed. And on the last day we wanted to cook some food at the apartment but the grill was also not working. So we had to wait a while until someone brought us a new one. The owner apologized and everything was, still if I payed a little less I would have accepted these “problems” in a more understanding way. There were also some bugs in the room like spiders and mosquitos
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place for a weekend getaway in the quiet heart of nature. Alls rooms were confortable, charmingly decorated and the homemade breakfast was delicious. Irene&Jorge were excellent hosts providing for anything we would need to render our stay even more enjoyable. We hope to be back soon!
6,0 Good
Pros: Certainly different! A restored ruin apparently miles from anywhere. Priced with hotels it can't compete with for facilities but which can't compare for the experience. Rustic outside; unexpected inside. Walkers and lovers could stay until exhausted! Very nice personalised breakfast prepared to order.
Cons: Despite emailed directions, get there in daylight!
7,0 Good
Pros: Relaxing environment, nice breakfast, peaceful view (studio apartment)
Cons: Administrative procedures (check in/out)
5,7 Okay
Pros: Off the beaten track and very rural with lovely view across countryside. Welcoming glass of wine on arrival and Jorge and Irene were friendly unobtrusive hosts. We stayed in the studio which had everything we needed for our one night stopover. Breakfast (taken in the main house) was excellent with fresh rolls, jams, ham and cheese. Knowing we had a long drive ahead, Jorge kindly let us make up rolls for our picnic lunch!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality and welcome received for us and for our little dog was wonderful. The position in the hills of the Valle de Radao was delightful, surrounded by rolling hills and unspoilt countryside. A great place for walking and exploring, with local cuisine available in the nearby village to a good standard. We would love to visit again.
Cons: Not easy to find, perseverence required but well worth the effort!!
7,0 Good
Pros: The Hospitality of the owners, the quiet of the surroundings, the gorgeous view of the serra de São Mamede.

Pros: Loved the friendly staff and close proximity to the town center!
Cons: Breakfast was only an hour
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice sized room with real wood furniture. Very clean. Beautiful panoramic view from the balcony. Good location for walking to see the town.
Cons: WiFi only available in reception and at edge of bar. No English language channels on the TV plus the Input did not work on the remote nor with the button on the TV, so we could not play shows recorded on our own devices on the TV screen. Limited hot water after waiting many minutes. We were on floor 2 and spoke with guests staying on floor 3 who experienced the same problems. We've been staying in inexpensive guesthouses and quintas with excellent WiFi throughout the buildings, plenty of hot water, and fully functional flat screen TVs with English language news channels so were dissatisfied we didn't have them in a 3 star hotel. Difficult to park nearby on Saturday.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast. Good view over hills behind.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good value. A simple room, but with extras that we didn’t expect for the price, such as a bowl of fruit, towelling robes and slippers. Excellent view towards the hillside from the restaurant at breakfast time, and a good selection of food to enjoy.

Cons: Everything wonderful: room, food , staff , position. Very good for family with children.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location was great
Cons: Wifi access wasn't consistent. Beds were comfortable but squeaky. We had two rooms - both had problems with showers. The 'rain shower' attachment in one didn't work properly while the attachment for the other shower head in the same bathroom wouldn't go higher than your belly button; the shower head in the second bathroom didn't fit the attachment at all
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, wonderful view, comfortable rooms (the bed could be bigger!) and with many amenities.
Cons: The breakfast could be better! Much better! Since the inn belongs to a restaurant, it is unnecessary, processed products, in amounts counted for the table and in small packages. It could have natural juice, jams, fruits, regional produce and a table best produced.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The room was a nice size. The people were friendly and helpful.
7,5 Good
Pros: Central location, good value, friendly staff.
Cons: Needs upgrading but the owner told us it will soon suffer a complete remodelation.

Pros: Very nice place. We had quite big teras with great view. Breakfast was ok (not too much).
Cons: The wifi was working sometimes not. Ther was mamy flys in the room.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Excellent location and price
Cons: Reception was very brusque. I had asked for a non smoking room, but received a room that stank of smoke. When I commented on it I was told he was full, but looking on the website they still had rooms. We had no view, so was very disappointed. We had dinner in the restaurant, the staff were down right rude and the food very ordinary.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: location in town for tourism.
Cons: Ants in the bedroom on the dressing table.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very central location. Nice, clean property with everything necessary. The staff was helpful. I had a great view over the town from my room. Comfortable bed. Multilingual TV channels. Everything within walking distance.
Cons: The WI-FI was not working at all. The walls were quite thin, and I could hear the noise from the other room at times.

Pros: The staff was very friendly and efficient throughout. The location was good with parking just outside and easy access to the town of Castelo de Vide - only a few minutes walk away. The breakfast was basic but well stocked and something for most tastes.
Cons: The hotel is very dated and needs a bit of TLC. The room we had was dark and the aircon was not working properly blowing out cool air most of the time in a room with 15-17 degrees (and we tried getting it up to 21 - never came over 19). No tea or coffee making facilities and only one chair in the room.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The bed was comfy, the location is excellent, the bar is nice, the staff is helpful and breakfast was nice.
Cons: It was all OK.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Large room, nice view from balcony, very silent place and just 10 minutes slow walking (with a baby) to the center of town. It had all we needed. Spotless clean. A crib for the baby was available and prepared at arrival. Large variety at breakfast.
Cons: Beds could be more comfy.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very easy to find on the road to the main square, 10 minutes walk from the center, free parking on site. Good sized and clean room, clean bathroom, all facilities working great. Excellent breakfast, full of yummy items. Special mention to Joseph, the receptionist, who was so kind and helpful to us, with many useful recommendations. A lovely stay that we'd repeat.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I like this town. Well kept, well laid out; a town for the residents, not overly catering to the tourists. The hotel was on the edge of the downtown, a short and very pleasant walk to everything.
Cons: Maybe a little more information available like maps of the town and local hikes.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Normal.
7,5 Good
Cons: The shower was not very clean
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Nice plentyfull breakfast. Even though it rained for 3 days we still enjoyed the surroundings. Marvo in the rain and mist was eerily great.
Cons: The beds were very hard. It would be nice if one was able to make a hot drink instead of having to order it.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was wonderful.. the facility, the location, the fresh fruit at breakfast and the staff went out of their way to be helpful.
