Read your receipt carefullyPros:It's close to most the terminals.Cons:I will never go to this budget again. If you rent a car for a week it cost "less" than renting one for 3 days. If you use your own insurance it cost "more" than if you use theirs because they have a special. DOUBLE check your receipt carefully. After spending way too long discussing renting options I rent a van based on my travel dates. I should have looked at the receipt carefully. When I returned the car I was charged 1 extra day and a fee. The receipt had the car return a day earlier but i clearly told the guy I was flying my flight details and how many dates of need the car. The WHOLE thing was awful. There are always hidden fees when renting cars in this case I paid 170 more than expected.Reviewed Oct 31 2015

Cons:Budget have us a car with bad brakes. We paid extra for a nicer car but instead had a scary car that sounded like a rust bucket every time I tapped the brakes. Will never let this happen to me in again.Reviewed Apr 28 2021

Nissan VersaPros:Hilo is a small airport, so no waiting for shuttle to car rental kiosk, no line.Cons:I drove about 175 miles or less on 9.5 gallons of gas, which is really low mpg. I get better mileage with a bigger car in similar terrain and higher altitude.Reviewed Aug 5 2016

Slow check in - Wrong CarPros:Drop off was simple I did the advanced payment for fuel, but since I was under 100 miles, it was a lower amount.Cons:The check in was slow. There were six or so people in line ahead of us and it took an hour to get a car. We reserved a SUV but had to settle for a van because they had no SUVs ready.Reviewed Mar 28 2017

Pros:The car was nice; the customer service was fair.Cons:We scheduled our flight from Maui to Honolulu. We were on Oahu just 2 weeks earlier & picked up our car from the airport. with absolutely no problems. We travel frequently & I have NEVER sent a poor comment. Apparently, the Oahu Airport was out of cars on July 20th and they booked our car at the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki without notifying us the change of location. I am not sure if this was an error with Kayak or Budget Rent-A Car. We were stranded at the Honolulu Airport for almost two hours. We had to take a cab to the Hyatt Regency. We had the car for less than 10 hours. Due to the confusion, we asked the manager at the Hyatt Regency Budget if we could return the car to the airport and they said no. We had to take an Uber to the Airport. This was a terrible situation, especially since we were attending a very important event at UH. Budget would not work with us or was the manager flexible to take care of the situation. They were more worried about their next day reservations. Upon returning the car to the Hyatt, the staff was vacuuming cars as they came in instead of checking in the returned cars and assisting with return. I never saw anything like this in all of the years I rented cars. My daughter actually got out of our rental car and directed the long line of cars waiting behind us which were lined up on the street outside the parking garage, so, we could all get where we were going. Budget was busy and there were 3 people in the office on the floors above, but, there were NO SUPERVISORS in the area to return cars or assist. The workers were young & doing the best they knew how, but, they had no idea about customer service. How could they be vacuuming the cars and making everyone else wait who needed to get to the airport, etc? REALLY?? Everyone was shocked and honking horns. My suggestion would be to move your return counter to the parking garage and get a manager who is customer service oriented. She wasn't rude, but, she was far from accommodating. I am sorry to write this, but, this was a situation which could have been handled differently.Very disappointed in the entire experience. We never complain, but, this was extremely disappointing and we will not be using Budget in the near future or again.Reviewed Aug 10 2017

Pros:I liked that the car was in good shape and we didn't have any trouble with it. The instructions for picking up and dropping off the car were straightforward.Cons:The customer service woman who helped us with the paper work when picking up the vehicle was beyond rude and unfriendly. At one point, she even made me feel belittled when there was a miscommunication about purchasing vehicle insurance. She did not belong in customer service. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had...that is not an exaggeration. I also was shocked to find out that Budget wanted to charge me an additional $400 to drop the vehicle off at the airport, instead of in Waikiki (which is obviously more inconvenient for us). We had to drive the vehicle into the busiest streets of Oahu and catch an Uber to the airport. I can't imagine why Budget would charge $400 extra to drop the vehicle off at the airport location.Reviewed Aug 13 2018
