Cancelled my booking, gave me lower class car at the higher ratePros:Best part was when it ended.Cons:The dealer cancelled my booking without making any attempt to contact me. When i arrived, no one was in the office. The dealer revived the booking but gave me a lower class car at the higher rate, saying he had no other cars. The corolla was filthy inside with food stains. The drop off destination on the website apparently didn't exist any more so i had to deliver across town at additional cost and effort (Had to keep the car overnight). I later discovered this to be a lie, with the drop off across the street to my accommodation.Reviewed Oct 29 2017

Cons:When we came to pick up the car on thanksgiving, we were shocked to find out that there were no cars available, with 9 other groups ahead of us waiting for a car even though they also had a reservation. We were then told it could be hours before we got one. We had to drive all the way to collingwood for a family dinner and we almost missed it due to this inconvenience. It was nice that two free days were offered once we called and spoke with a manager. But after this experience, we are worried that this may happen again and do not want to have this happen again. We also never received an email confirming the free days that we were promised.Reviewed Oct 22 2018

Bait and switchPros:NothingCons:After 20 hours of travel time with my wife and 3 small kids and 10 suitcases (3 month holiday) arriving in Canada at Toronto i proceeded to the rental counter hoping to quickly get my car and drive to my rented bnb and get some much needed sleep. But upon arriving I was told that they didn't have my car with 3rd row seating despite me calling to confirm several times in the weeks and days before arrival, so the uphold me on another car costing me nearly 50% more than expected. I only chose to rent via kayak and Alamo because they specifically had the car I wanted and yet in the end they drastically misdelivered.Reviewed Sep 3 2016

Pros:The Toronto front desk and garage staff were friendly but the front desk was disorganized. The lady charged me for two drivers for 3d, instead of only adding a second driver for the last day of my trip, as I had requested. The car had a mechanical maintenance error, warning of need for oil change and topping off all kind of fluids. I brought the car to Alamo in (4200 Genesee St-Buffalo Airport, NY 14225) and the rep. just explained it away. He said that the oil change was done in an unauthorized location, who was not able to reset the computer thus showing 29000 miles without an oil change as it is otherwise impossible to drive the car without it having had maintenance. They didn't have a replacement for me. The experience in DCA was just horrible. The guy increased my charge from $342 +/- $24 (for two additional drivers the last day) to $508 without being able to explain why, not taking account of the mechanical error (of which I have a picture). When I called the customer service, it was even worse and sent me from Pontus to Pilate telling me that I should contact the Toronto office for the erroneously added additional drivers for extra two days as "it is a different company" as if Alamo in Canada is not part of Alamo in US. They not only did not apologize for the dangerous driving conditions that I was subjected too and the extra detour that I had to do, she was (Melanie, i thing) arrogant and said that my car actually should have costed me $540 and that the $508 that I was being charged is a favor. She also referred me back to "Expedia" where I had rented the car, while I had rented it through HotWire. I wasted 2 hours unsuccessfully trying to sort out their error, after a grueling 8 and a half hour drive (instead of the 7.5, because of need for detour to their dealership in Buffalo)Cons:Get their international operations in line and coordinate internally. Ensure that the maintenance is done with authorized dealerships. Don't overcharge customers. Have replacement cars ready, when there are mechanical warning signs.Reviewed Oct 21 2019

Cons:when I asked the counter staff on arrival in Toronto about a return drop off down town rather than at the airport (as my travel plans had changed at the last minute) I was told it would be a $200 added cost so had to drive to the airport & take UP & TTC & GO train i.e. adding a couple of hours & $ to my trip I told my travel agent, who contacted Alamo & told me there was in fact NO drop off cost for a return downtown Toronto rather than the airport re the counter staff I'd say train them better, give them resources to look up answers or suggest they find other jobs ...Reviewed Oct 15 2017

Appalling experienceCons:The rental agent was rude, disrespectful and had a chip on his shoulder. I would never rent with Alamo or any of its affiliate companies again. The agent tore up our rental agreement and would not even allow us to take our booked rental car because we arrived over 3 hours after our scheduled pick up time (despite the fact that the car was available and no one else had tried to book it). He was on a power trip and was more concerned with being right than offering customer service. Just appalling.Reviewed Jul 21 2017
