Customer service was badPros:The shuttle driver was lovely. The car was fine.Cons:The rental agent was rude and gave me misinformation about tollways in Illinois. I asked if there was any information that I would need in order to be able to pay my toll online and he told me that it was really easy and the system would walk me through it. No mention of the fact that as I went through a toll booth that was online payment that I would need to know the highway and interchange that I was on in order to not be charged the maximum of any toll possible. Needless to say I was not noting down every time I went through a toll booth on the trip so I'm going to have to pay much higher toll fees tha I should have.Reviewed Apr 26 2017

It was my only choice ... and it wasn't a good onePros:The guy that checked me in was clearly stressed, but when I stayed calm and pleasant he really warmed up. It had been a long day for him, I'm sure. It never hurts to be kind and give people a chance to be friendly. I had to call customer service twice and both people that I spoke with were kind and helpful.Cons:Pickup shuttle was not timely. I called customer service and they said every 10 min, but I had already been waiting for 20 so that wasn't true at all. The car that I got was the last one on the lot and CLEARLY someone had smoked in their before. I hate that smell, but I was left with no other option. Wish I could send Advantage my dry cleaning bill to get that smell out of my suit. Return process was miserable. The woman who checked me in clearly was not happy to be their and while I was calm and pleasant, she was having none of it. I asked to verify the email address she had on file to ensure I would get my receipt and she told me it was the same as when I checked in and walked away. It was wrong, I didn't get the invoice and had to call customer service to get the receipt, not a big deal, but how hard would it have been for her to check and update? Return shuttle ... it didn't come for us. There were people waiting in line for the shuttle who had been there for over 30 minutes. Knowing how long I waited for pickup, I decided to Uber it to the airport terminal.Reviewed Jul 19 2018

Horrible servicePros:NothingCons:I went in there to pick up my rental and i was told i needed my insurance info. I said i dont have a car thats why im renting one now. Whats the purpose of renting a car if i already have one. Apparently i dont qualify to rent a car from Advantage because if i live in the same state im supposed to have insurance. Its a ridiculous policy. I asked if they offered one just like the other rental places and they said yes but since i lived in the same state as my drivers license i needed one of my own. I just walked out and went to Payless rental. They have a better selection same prices and they dont have a ridiculous policyReviewed Apr 5 2016

Horrible customer servicePros:Price of car rentalCons:From the first step inside Advantage there was nothing but rude employees giving customers attitude. Once it was my turn, the woman helping is handed a key for my vehicle and tells me there are heated seats and Bluetooth. I said, "great" because I was only paying $46.65 and figured I'd get the cheapest car there. When I look down my invoice had $90.76 in the total. I asked why and the woman said that I had seemed interested in the new car so she gave it to me. There was no conversation about the keys she had in her hand being more expensive. She tried to sneak that by me and was nervous when I caught her. I got the vehicle for my original 46.65 and then was told to sign a document stating that there were no scratches or damage to the car, before even seeing it! What?! I told her I wasn't going to sign it until I saw the car and she got annoyed and snapped at me to take it outside to check the car and hand off the paper to someone else. I got to the vehicle and there were deep scratches on it and paint missing in a few places. I pointed them out to the woman and marked them on the document. I get in to the car and want to leave quickly. As I was there for an emergency, and the vehicle stinks of cleaner. My nostrils were burning and my eyes were watering. It was really potent and a floral/chemical smell. They told me they all smell like that so I sat with the windows down for 10 minutes and drove with the windows down until it was just to cold to keep doing it. The smell seemed like it was covering up cigarette smoke. THEN when Returning the vehicle, I went to the Exxon Mobil right down the street and filled my car up and pulled in to advantage. A woman was taking the vehicles and checking them out. She asks if I want an emailed receipt or to go inside. I chose and emailed receipt and then she asked me if I filled up the car and I said yes. 20 minutes later I receive an email with the receipt and they charged me $180 for gas. Unbelievable. I then call to dispute it and I'm sent to corporate to file a report and have no way of getting a refund until they "investigate my case." I usually take a photo of the gas tank when I return vehicles I rent, this time I didn't, very frustrating. Advantage had a great price, that's why I went there, but I will never rent from them again.Reviewed Nov 24 2015

Smelly cars, bad servicePros:Car was available on time. Shuttle was available immediately. Car was brand new with XM radio.Cons:Extra charges on bill. Car smelled terribly of weed/smoke and customer service rep said they did not smell it, and didn't allow changing the car, wouldn't put the note about smoke on damage sheet until pressed to do so. Car was uncomfortably smelly. CSR recommended I-pass, but none of the cars have rear plates so it makes no difference whether you utilize I-pass or not. Also CSR didn't mention that tolling fees can be paid online in chicago, if you don't have an I-pass and you miss a toll. CSR also stated that the charges for the I-pass were by the state/tolling authority and not fees collected by Advantage, but in the contract it states that Advantage collects the 6.99 regardless of usage and pays the tolling authority for exact usage.Reviewed Apr 5 2016

Easy pick up and drop off - rental carPros:Waiting time for pick up is short. The staff are very efficient . Drop off is the same too. They will just check the car for few minutes and receipt will be emailed to you then hop to the shuttle right away to the airport . You must check your receipt though via emailReviewed Dec 23 2015

Great servicePros:The car was clean and ready when I arrived. Didn't take too long to pick it up, though I did have to wait longer than most people in line for some reason. The shuttle drivers were very nice and responsive.Cons:It's a little far from O'Hare airport, which can't be helped probably. I hadn't realized and didn't know how to get myself there. When I called the number I was on hold over 15 minutes and at that point just happened to see a shuttle outside and went out and asked. It would have been nice if someone answered or was responsible for day of travel questions so I wasn't stuck on hold never getting answers.Reviewed Jan 9 2016

Pros:The car workedCons:although I was promised another car, the representative would not give that car to me saying that promotion had ended and I had to complete the acceptance before the day in question and prior reservation didn't count, maintenance was poor on the vehicle, it had been in a accident with a broken bumper clip and damage on the front bumper. The lady who checked me in, took the inspection sheet herself and told me that she inspected the car. At first I trusted her but before leaving the lot I walked around the car to find the damage, when I questioned her about it she was shocked I took the time to walk around the car myself. Thank goodness I did, or I would have had to take responsibility for the damage I didn't cause. When I returned the car, the employees were of little help. They were all sitting around and made a very rude comment when I asked to have the shuttle return me to the airport. During the shuttle ride, I watched the driver cut over four lanes of traffic forcing the other cars from crashing into us. Overall I wasn't pleased at all with the service, I will not be returning again.Reviewed Feb 28 2017

Pretty GoodPros:They were slow picking up from the airport with the shuttle (O'Hare). Their facilities could definitively do with a makeover, although that is not too big of a deal for me as it's more about the vehicle. Other than that, it was all a good experience.Reviewed Aug 3 2016

Decent off-airport experiencePros:Advantage's rates were low from the beginning of my search for a Chicago-O'Hare rental, when everyone else's rates were still high. The shuttle was fine, though several of the big name shuttles will pass you by before one Ad comes. But the car was good and the service at the counter was pretty fast.
