Went there for a quiate few days ended up staying in a building site with a bonus of jack hammer two days on the run starting at 8.15 in the morning! It's sound vibrated throughout the hotel and our bedroom was 3 floors above the beast.
Daughter loved the pool
Part Refund given as room surfaces were covered in thick layer of dust- had to wipe it off the magazine before I could read it Refunded as paid £79 for 2 pedicures with gel polish. Absolute rip off as got a quick file and tidy both our gels peeled off in hours and feet still rough Hotel is not looking 4 *
The setting is amazing. Staff are friendly and really helpful if a bit run off their feet.
We were not advised that there was extensive building work being undertaken at the hotel at the time of booking. We are awoken by hammer drills at 8am on two mornings and the building smelt of solvents during the day. The heating is also being upgraded and we only had one electric wall heater to heat the room so it was a bit chilly. The staff did apologise but we would have expected to be made aware of the work at the time of booking. We would also not have expected the hotel to be charging the normal room rate during the renovations. I think the hotel will be lovely once it is finished but I would not really recommend it until then.
The staff were very helpful and polite.
We arrived 5 mins after the check in time at 1500 to be told we couldn't book into the restaurant as it was full which was a big disappointment as there was not really anywhere else in the surrounding area to eat. We ordered from the bar which had a very limited menu. Our room was situated right above a wedding party downstairs so it was very noisy, surely it would of been obvious to house guests attending the wedding, above the wedding. One of the staff offered to move us over to the other end of the hotel which was kind and made a difference.
The staff were lovely, very helpful and couldn't do enough for you, we ended up in a twin room instead of a double but we got moved immediately, no trouble. The spa was lovely, very relaxing, not too busy.. Perfect. Location is quite a way from anywhere in terms of walking to places you couldn't but was very relaxing and the village pub served lovely food. The hotel and the pub appear to be dog friendly so ideal for walkers. It's an easy enough drive into York which we did after we left.. All in all for the price we paid it was really lovely.. We'd happily recommend and stay again.
The hotel itself was lovely, they're in the middle of some renovations and so there were workmen all over and heavy plant machinery outside.. The noise wasn't too bad in the end. Breakfast time was a bit of a shambles, the staff were lovely and tried their hardest but there were simply not enough staff for the level of residents and we ended up along with others having to wait for sometime to be served due to lack of tables and lack of staff to clear them in good time. Simple things like red and brown sauce and butter had to be asked for which only tied the staff up further.. It was a shame as they were really trying very hard, it wouldn't put me off going again.
