Overview

Just off Interstate 95, the newly renovated Best Western Of Walterboro, is a welcoming Lowcountry base, with well-appointed rooms featuring free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and coffee makers, a complimentary hot breakfast, an outdoor pool, and a fitness center. The setting puts an artisans center, a swamp sanctuary with boardwalk trails, and a county museum close by, with the antique shops of the historic downtown nearby. Charleston and the coast lie a short drive east, and the live-oak avenues and small-town squares of the Lowcountry spread out all around. Walterboro calls itself the front porch of the Lowcountry, a live-oak-shaded town of antique shops and Southern history between the interstate and the coast. Local craftspeople show their work at the South Carolina Artisans Center, the boardwalks of the Great Swamp Sanctuary wind through blackwater wetlands at the edge of town, and historic Charleston lies less than an hour to the east.
